I absolutely love my VF SV6 six speed manual. I bought it new and it's the last car I will ever own because nobody, I mean nobody builds a car like it anymore.
It would hard to describe how angry I was watching Joe Hockey basically laughing about shutting this plant down .The media has to,take some responsibility no debate, every writer just mirroring the stuff released by politicians and the productivity commission, both companies had just spent and committed Over a Billion dollars each. into our economy. Toyota had just opened a new engine plant and both were introducing new models and Mark Reuss who is GM’s Vice President of product stated in GM Today News at the time ( check it out), that he favoured keeping the Commodore car in production, that would have been 3 cars built in Elizabeth. With all the taxes, wages etc paid by GM Toyota to the Government ,simple arithmetic shows that the government just flushed it away Also The PM’s comments about people’s future were stupid to say the least. Why, the unions? Arrogance, who knows! Also if these companies took the advice of the then Industries minister and built small cars, they would have been sitting on a pile of unwanted cars now . It is worth noting that the Commodore was always in the top ten sellers and only dropped out of the top 6, 12 months before its demise. Do I.own a Commodore, yes a Calais V , a fantastic car by any measure. Also get sick of the “crap”argument, Look at how many parts from component manufacturers are shared with so called good cars, whatever brand they are.
Are there any auto engineers and designers still living in this country? IF so,why isn't anybody thinking about designing an upscale and 21st century Zeta,a truly native Australian brand, not owned by GM Ford or Mitsubishi and not reliant on any government money?
Yeah, blame Turnbull instead of the many Australian economic factors that make the production of cars unsustainable and unappealing to car manufacturers along with the shifting consumer demands and tastes that further accelerated the demise of local manufacturing.
Yes it was Abbott and his Treasurer Joe Hockey, they put a stop to subsidising the auto industry in Australia and the fact they cut huge Tariffs off Imported Cars which in turn made the Australian made cars way too expensive. In other countries like Germany and the United States the governments there heavily subsidise their auto manufacturing industry. The Czech Republic with a population of just over 10.1 million produce the Skoda car range and export the brand, so how come with a population of over 25 million Australia cannot even manufacture a bloody razor blade..... disgusting!
