  • An unboxing of Dungeon Universalis 1.3, the standees, and the tiles. Lots of rambling, as well. Come watch me unleash one of the biggest solo dungeon crawlers of all time.

Glad to see the disclaimer in the beginning haha. Happy that you enjoyed it. The thing about the map is you only use it when you're done with the adventure, so I just put it in the same space as the Dungeon tiles. And there are only a few tokens on it, so each time I take a picture with my phone before going into the adventure and after I just look at my picture to see where my party is, etc. You can also write it down. But a photo is quicker. I don't track anything on the app, I just use it to reveal the dungeon tiles. The rest is all analog. Thanks for the unboxing. Excited to see your next videos.

haha thanks again for your encouragement! I'm enjoying it a lot. I thought about setting the board up on a big footrest and take a photo of it, because you're right, that's a good option. So far, I've just been tracking myself on the small map. I know where I am because the missions are on it, and then I do the encounters, but I haven't been tracking the enemy movement. I may decide to make the effort to do that at some point

I appreciate that you put a disclaimer up front... and you can check out my playthrough from the first campaign to get more "good vibe" of the game. 🙌 You bought a fantastic game and as you already stated in the disclaimer you like it. So have fun with this fantastic game.
    best

Thanks! Yeah, this game is amazing. I still want to play it some more before giving it my final review (I played for 2 weeks, then sat it aside to play primal the awakening), but I don't see my thoughts on it changing. It's just brilliant.

Tragic. I wonder how many feral cats are now homeless due to their box being commandeered to ship this game to you. That box should have been at least twice as thick for what it was holding.
    - Dungeon Universalis is definitely a 'lifestyle' game. IMO, a perfect kind of boardgame/TTRPG hybrid.
    - The dungeon tiles/standees are fantastic for using in your other RPGs, if you so desire.
    - Orc Brothel location card sounds intriguing. If you partake, roll for disease resistance!
    - Considered obtaining this on numerous occasions, and I still might but when I look over at my multiple books of Forbidden Lands, Tales of Argosa, Dragonbane, Twilight 2000, 2D6 Dungeon, and Coriolis etc., I figure I probably have a bountiful amount of RPG materials already.
One last observation; the battlemat you did your unboxing on, does it have another side like a woodland?
Anway, looking forward to your review. It just might push me over the edge into 'buy mode'.

So several of the largest tiles have woodland on them, allowing you to build a pretty big woodland battlemat, but if you mean the foldable map boards, one has blue for water, and the one included with the third content pack has another world map on one side and then dungeon tile on the opposite. Since there are 7 more of these maps planned, I almost guarantee one will eventually have woodland.
I am definitely keeping this game, and this will definitely be my generic set of dungeon tiles. They fit perfectly in one of the two content expansion boxes, so will be easy to pull out and use separately from the rest of the gigantic game.
If you want a heavy, lifestyle crawler with those rpg elements, that's somehow also easy to table (after the heavy learning lift), man, this is the one. I'm going to fawn over it in a review before too long, but just letting you know ahead of time

@@JAlanRykerGames*Ahem* Did you just say they have seven more maps planned? That's kind of crazy (but in a good way) I'm glad the tiles fit in the expansion box. You seemed a bit perturbed about having to configure that situation out. So far it seems this is the consummate go-to for this sort of game. Looking forward to more insights.👍

      @@buddhawasright Thanks!
Organizing this was a bit of a process, but it all came together nicely. The fact that the standees and tiles boxes are basically temporary made organization essential, but also forced me to condense it down to a form factor I'm happy with.
Check out this pic for proof of the 9 maps! It'll take decades, but I really hope it happens @abandonlife111 Thanks!

Nice unboxing. Got this game as well (not the all-in though) and have League coming as well. Curious to see how different they play. With regards to the map I believe there's a webpage where you can keep track of that part, so you don't need to have a big map laid out.

Yes, the web app is super nice, and does have a map you can add all the tokens to that you would use to track on the big map. So far my experience has been that Dungeon Universalis has been a lot to learn, but worth it. If you're looking for a heavy crawler, I think you'll enjoy it, too. It's very clever

I had the same issue with my delivery, and I was missing half of the things from my order. But I will say Ludic Dragon was very good and quick to resolve my issues.

When I got Dungeon Universalis, the box was in the same state. Luckily, there was very little impact to the contents. Still new, so I can't judge the system yet.

I'm glad to hear you got lucky, too. The combination of the damage to the exterior box with the lack of packing material around the contents (at least in the case of mine, maybe it's because mine was so full) makes it a miracle when things aren't getting damaged.

    27:06 serif I hope?

    • @JAlanRykerGames
      @JAlanRykerGames  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, their font is serifed. The biggest font issue I have with the game is that in the ornate font they use on the cards, the 3 and 5 are very difficult to tell apart, especially when printed small
