      I Understand that while explaining and playing examples of scales, chord tones etc.. you're keeping yourself reeled in but I would love to see you out of your head cutting loose, throwing down from the gut - Where might I find this?

    I have a mental block on learning all the notes up the fretboard, tried everything nothing helps. The Never lost almost makes it redundant as once plugged into the key it kinda doesn’t matter when you find home in all shapes. The next step for me is exactly this tutorial finding the 4 and the 5 home note in all shapes. This Blues primer is the way to stitch (yeah Stich) your way between all the shapes. Loving it, thank you for getting this lower intermediate self taught player out of a big rut.

    You are an amazing teacher. This is the BEST explanation of how to solo over the 12 bar blues I've ever heard. You have just pulled the veil from my eyes and set me free! Lol thanks for the info!

    Thank you Stich, I feel like you gave me the key to what’s missing in my attempts to solo correctly. Your explanation, especially the “Your house, your next door neighbor, and the neighbor down the street” really helped me see the connection. Very helpful.

    This is very helpful, I have been playing for many years, mostly cowboy chords on an acoustic. I have tried for years to figure out how to solo using the pentatonic, but it never sounds "right". This is really the key that unlocks the castle. Thanks

  • @petermaine
    @petermaine 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Eureka! This answers my question perfectly. Now I know why you can stay in the zone or area of the 1 chord (here, the Aminor pentatonic) throughout a solo with a rhythm that has a 1/4/5 progression. No one has ever explained it this clearly. Thanks, Ian!

    Another disciple who has finally walked into the light! After wandering around your videos for kicks I finally decided to watch the blues series in order. I started creating my own charts from your lessons (just to reinforce the knowledge) and now that I made it to this lesson my mind is blown. Connecting the note intervals in the scale to the underlying chord intervals is like turning the headlights on the car at night. You can have the road map but it sure is easier to avoid running into trees with the lights on! Thanks Ian!!!!

    I have watched an enormous amount of blues instruction videos and I don't believe anyone has promoted the concept of the importance of hitting the I, V, IV notes with the chord changes as you have described. It seems so obvious now. You move right along in your lesson which is great---nice job.

    Played 12 bar blues for a long time and everybody is just like yeah - play your a minor pentatonic - but it always sounded like garbage to me and now I know why ! This lesson coupled with your smart/generous A 12 bar blues you did in its "sister" lesson so so makes sense and as you say WORKS !
    Thanks so much for deconstruction all this and allowing us to play music instead of just notes over chord changes. So refreshing and helpful.

    I've gone through this vid probably 6 times at least and 2 things really stand out. #1 it explains why sometimes my leads sound great and other times don't, and #2 I can now FIX that problem so it sounds good repeatedly, even when I'm playing a new tune I don't know in advance. It makes me SO much more comfortable behind my guitar!!! THANK YOU!

    I had a few lessons with a guy who plays bass and lead in a couple of bands and he called all professional guitar players cheats. Thanks for sharing all those cheats with us. You rock!

    • @LangChrisSmal
      @LangChrisSmal 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a huge compliment. What he meant (and I agree) was that all these guys know certain "tricks" that they keep to themselves and that playing well is actually a lot easier than we "mere mortals" think (if you know the tricks) but because they don't show us the tricks that make playing well easier they are cheats. That was a bit of a rambling explanation but I think you get it. Thanks again!

    Lessons are great, one of the best online if not the best. Only question I have is it's easy to follow the progression of the lessons when they are labeled # 1 technique , & # 2 technique but some of the other lessons are hard to figure out what lesson would be the next in your teaching progression. Otherwise learning more than I ever have from some of the others online.

    Great video Stich!!! I realize that you play different leads throughout the lesson. However, it would help greatly if you would Tab one complete solo for us. Having a "note for note" solo would give us a great base from which to create our own alternatives. I believe that this technique would also work for many of your "mindset" videos (Thrill is Gone and Little Wing comes to mind). I would be very happy to pay for these tabs. Keep up the great work. All is much appreciated.

    Been playing those pentatonic positions for years just kind of muddling my way through. Although this is a very simple and basic lesson, it's not something I really never thought about or used much. So thank you very much for this important lesson which will help my playing tremendously since these are the kind of basics I've been missing.

    Another great lesson! Thank you so much for these! Your lessons are perfect for an intermediate player like myself who's kind of stuck in neutral, so to speak. Cheers!

    Number one. The pentatonic always sounds good. Coupled with ones on the one, fours on the fours, fives on the fives, it sounds great. Great lesson!
