      If I had any sort of normal schedule, I would give some serious thought to paid lessons. However, I often travel last minute for my day job, so scheduling anything can be a nightmare. I will start pondering on how I could make this work.

    i'm impressed with the fact that one view of this lesson took all the mystery out of this solo for me. I've played the rhythm for years wishing I could be the one soloing. I don't say this lightly, you are the best teacher on youtube for guitar.

    You do so well to explain the “mindset” of these musicians. I’ve been working on various Hendrix songs but avoiding Little Wing. Watching this, totally gave me the confidence to play it with more understanding and ease. It won’t be the same as his, but with this I can play music inspired by him and that is teaching music! Well done! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Ian, I have been searching and searching somebody that makes sense describing how the guitar works,now I am ready to pick my guitar again after putting it back to its case and after several failed attempts and many disappointments I am so glad that I found you, I love your style because the way you talk I could listen to you for hours and this is because you are calmer than a lot of guys out there super hyper and just want to show off their skills. Ian thanks please don't change.

    I love the way you explain "why" something works the way it does, and in a simple way that makes it easy to understand. For those of us who want to understand why, it's great. You are an excellent teacher and I applaud you for giving back to the community.

  • @Zzz-iz6jk
    @Zzz-iz6jk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is an incredible lesson. Learning the theory and understanding the 'why' it works and how Hendrix is moving around the chords and hitting those root notes helps make more sense of the song than merely being told to "put your hands here" or "play this fret on this string." In fact, it seems much easier to pick up the song when you're taught how it all works around the chord patterns. Kudos to you, sir!

  • @chrisrimolt3233
    @chrisrimolt3233 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Kudos to you for lessons that don't dumb down music! I've been working as a self taught guitar student for two years, learning my note positions, scales in multiple positions, major/ minor combos etc... and your lessons and teaching style are moving me forward in not PLAYING SONGS - but in PLAYING MUSIC. Thank you and again - kudos, my friend.

    I read an article in a Guitar oriented magazine a while back where they recounted a little anecdote that sheds light on Jimi’s ‘mind set’ in terms of how he approached the guitar. One fine day, Jimi was out in public when a teenager approached him and asked, “How can I learn to play like you?” Jimi’s responded, “Just learn your chords, and everything else will fall into place.” [this is from memory, but I’m pretty sure that’s how he put it].
    Presuming this is true, and I think it is because it’s not only how he talked, but it’s consistent with his generous spirit to let drop a truly helpful bit of advice to a youngster. With that in mind, this video lesson is spot on in terms of unlocking how Jimi found the notes he used in his solos. I actually never considered hitting the root note on the first beat of each chord change. But hearing you do it, I think it sounds really solid, as well as sounding ‘Hendrixy’.

  • @dennisgreen7709

    I won't fawn all over how amazing you are as a teacher and fun to watch or many light bulbs glow off brightly in my head after I watch you, but I finally watched this after having it saved in my watch later list for too long and what struck me most was how quickly you reacted to your child's cry. False alarm though it was, this is a video you show him when he says you put other things before him. I love you and hope you are all enjoying the van trip. I'm digging those videos as well. Stay Well and thanks big time for this one. Waiting allowed it to make more sense to my old brain.

    Hi sir,
    Your video is really a gem to understand how to solo on this song, not just copying the original. It's just the way we learn things with my teacher and mates during my guitar lessons and it was a real pleasure to see you going through this.
    And on top of that, the way you present all this is really nice and friendly.
    I'll defintely have a look at your other videos.
    Many thanks !

    This is great! You nailed it. There are so many note by note lessons on Hendrix stuff, but this look into how to follow the progressions of the chords with penatonics, blues, major and minor (aeolian/Dorian) scale positions is relevant to almost all of his approaches when soloing. I put this into 'watch later' so I can come back to it when I'm showing useful things to the younger musicians in my family. Thanks for the great content! P.s. I also 'liked' a comment on here requesting 'since I've been loving you ' mindset.

    Wow! Dude this was game changing stuff for me! I find many TH-cam teachers namedrop cord structures and musical theory verbiage, that the average Joe just doesn't understand (i.e. me!). But you go one step further by first telling us in simple terms what is going on and THEN telling us, "oh by the way this is called diatonic", so I can say I actually learned something from you! And for that I thank you so much! You are a legend and a squire!

    I have been frustrated for years trying to learn how to solo but wasn't getting anywhere. Finally I decided to taking some time out to learn my scales, arpeggios and pentatonics as maybe that would do the trick. However I just couldn't make sence of it - something was missing. And then I stumbled on your StichMethod vids and bingo!!! I realised what I was missing - and that was some logic and helpful guidelines. Thanks heaps it is starting to come together. U-R- very good at what you do! Hopefully it does not go un-noticed because I would like my son to continue following, he was smiling after watching this very informative review that finally made my Son understand the importance of just Why and how theory fits into it all and helps us learn through understanding cord progression / notes & why we change the notes in a solo due to cord progression. It was complete and made clear sense to someone who heard it many times but could grasp the concept till Now. So for that I thank you! Good Work Dad! Keep making that difference and keep us coming back.

    I've been playing LW for 20 years. 2 years ago I tried to play Maggot Brain and found that my skillsets were lacking to pull off Eddie Hazel's solo. After I learned to bend notes(yeah, kind of embarrassing), a whole bunch of styles like David Gilmore were easier to recreate. I attribute Eddie's solo for showing me the way. Thanks for the upload. An older guitarist can still learn a thing or two

    Nice lesson! I've never learned this song's chord progression before. That little switch from G to F scale to C is pretty sweet sounding
