Thank you Evan, this seems very helpful! I would really enjoy a video about how to get the first gigs as a photographer. I've been shooting for years, i would like to become a profrossional photographer one day but i still can't figure out where to start! 🙏🙏🙏 Greetings from Italy 👋
You know what, thanks for being so transparent. Personal income is a sensitive subject for many, so it is refreshingly brave to see someone being very up front.
Thanks, it’s not something I really like doing but I thought it was important to mention numbers in this one to reinforce my point. It’s a topic a lot of photographers can take advantage of in their business!
This is soooo good. Literally the only video I've ever seen that takes you through it all and make it so simple. Anyone looking to get started selling prints or making a photography website needs to see this!!
I don't get the people bitching about this being an ad for Squarespace. You're going to set up the same pages and functions on a photography website no matter which vendor you choose. I'm trying to decide on a vendor, so this is very helpful - it's given me things I'll consider when checking them out.
The only thing I see photographers doing wrong on Squarespace sites is use direct to print items where a printing lab basically gets the order. The problem with it is your image isn’t sharpened or sized correctly for whatever output the customer ordered. Not very high quality product at that point. Inventory like you’re doing is better, much better.
Evan, what are the chances we could get an updated video on building a print store on Squarespace in 2022/2023? Squarespace has changed a lot with new features and web building techniques and it would be great to see an update. I love your work.
4min 30secs in, how your openness and sincerity comes across got me to like, sub and want to watch more content as this is the kind of person I would like to learn from.
It's just awesome when ambitious, driven people share the secrets of their success. I'm never going to go as far as creating a website and trying to sell anything but I love it that you did this for other potential creatives. Good job man, love your videos and check back way to often for new ones!
Good video, Evan. It's just a little misleading in the title. To create a website with a webshop is one thing, but to sell something and making people discover your shop and wanting to buy from you is the big, big challenge. I've done what you advised about photographing around my town and have been selling some to friends, family and coworkers, but the challenge really is how to reach further. But to start small is a good start.
Another great way is through Pic Time. You do need to make a small investment into the automated advertising, but with your profits from sales, you can reinvest and bring in daily sales.
I was doing this 20 years ago, with my own hand-cobbled website, as well as doing some gallery exhibitions the art show circuit, and working at an art co-op gallery. It was mostly a real PITA, and I got out after 7 or 8 years. What are your thoughts about using something like Etsy as a store front for prints, rather than the route you have chosen? Thanks for sharing your experiences and process!
So NONE of it was passive? You set a website up (which was a Squarespace ad, lets be honest here), then take orders for physical products (because you prefer physical products) which you then print labels for and package and send yourself? Where's the passive part? That, my friend, is running a business. Good video none the less :)
I just started building a site in WIX because their whole thing seems more suited to my design style. BUT, this is an intriguing case for the platform. NOW I AM OVERTHINKING IT. Thank you for that.
Perfect video! When I built my site back in Sept, I modeled after yours just to start. I’m working on a new one currently. Thanks for all you do man, really appreciate your work!
Just started making my website and was struggling to find a template I liked but then I watched this and fell in love with the template you used! Thank you for making this video! Really helped me out!
Evan!!! Great video man. I have tried a few times to get my Squarespace website together, but often found myself just getting distracted, simply because I really did not have a direction. Just those short eight minutes made it so much simpler. NEW SUBSCRIBER ALERT!!! The content was great.
Fantastic video. Thanks for actually guiding us all through the website set up. Straight to the point. Great tips on the e-commerce side as well. Time to start updating my site👍
Great video! Would love to see more of these. I think some people on TH-cam do the bare minimum when it comes to some tutorials and I feel like this was in depth and a great framework to go even deeper from.
I have been watching your videos and enjoying them, I also live in the Atlanta area. You mention you keep inventory of the prints you sell, do you print them yourself?
Thank you for explaining how simply amazing passive income is because alot of persons think its so hard. Especially as a photographer. What to do is start. Rght now stop and head over to square space and make your site, put up your photos, publish that site. Yep. nice vid
Literally this past week I’ve been thinking about the whole start up and been hesitant. I have to say I’ve watched idk how many vids related and this was so helpful, really appreciate it !!
Wow this was a great way to understand how to show my creativity and build my brand. Which is what I want to start to do. I just uploaded my 2nd video and have no subscribers. I’ll continue to learn from you, thank you for sharing
Great video Evan I’m actually making a site for the first time got me so motivated with this one. Do i have to make a business site or i can do a personal?
This is the first video I've come across that shows how SquareSpace actually works. However, I wonder why, as a photographer, you used a musician template. Thanks.
Wow, great info, amazing. So inspirational. Thanks Evan! Makes me ready to make a website. Do you or anyone looking at the comments have a suggestion on how to figure out the tax part of this? That part looks pretty daunting.
Appreciate y’all watching!! If you want me to continue this series leave and comment and a thumbs up 👍
Continue the series! xD
sure thing!
You must have read my mind...I was just thinking about this
Yus!!

Spoiler alert: It's a Squarespace ad.
Thanks for saving me from watching the whole video
Ditto
Matt let us know what your plan for 35k of passive income is ill gladly go watch your video if its any good haha
@@blueflower-qw5jj shame it was very informative
This is the best squarespace ad I've ever seen. I hope they're paying you a bunch for this video. Not sarcastic at all, considering a site now.
This is soooo good. Literally the only video I've ever seen that takes you through it all and make it so simple. Anyone looking to get started selling prints or making a photography website needs to see this!!
Thank you! So happy to hear that because that was my goal! 🙌
I totally agree with u mate. Im here coz of what u said. Try to understand what to do next :)

✨GOLDEN NUGGET✨

Yeah bottom line... You need to be a creative salesman. You can't just be a creative and make money.

Your idea of marketing to your church, your hometown, your community is brilliant! Good video!

Great video! No one ever shows the actual website building steps.

Yooo a year later and love that you decided to make this video! Please make this kind of thing a series (if you can/want)!
I’ve been considering moving from Zenfolio to Squarespace and taking my photography more seriously. This may have done the trick, thank you 🙏
Awesome stuff dude.
Great video! It’s a great reminder for us creators that we have to know the business side as well just as equally in are craft!
I want to love this so much but you go so fast. I'm currently at Step 1 of building my very first photography website and feeling very overwhelmed.
Super inspiring man!
I just started building a site in WIX because their whole thing seems more suited to my design style. BUT, this is an intriguing case for the platform. NOW I AM OVERTHINKING IT. Thank you for that.

I have been watching your videos and enjoying them, I also live in the Atlanta area. You mention you keep inventory of the prints you sell, do you print them yourself?

How do you sort the business legalisation part? Don't you need the "terms and conditions" in place?
Do you recommend print on demand or printing it yourself?
Really nice tips man.
Thank you for explaining how simply amazing passive income is because alot of persons think its so hard. Especially as a photographer. What to do is start. Rght now stop and head over to square space and make your site, put up your photos, publish that site. Yep. nice vid
