Thanks for your info…last year suddenly saw a video on TH-cam on how to create perfume at home, I wanted to create perfume myself with my favourite scents. I purchased the basic materials which I needed to create a perfume and my favourite essential oils and fixatives, definitely which is not cheap at all. I researched deeply first because I felt quite interesting and I didn't want to waste my investment. The main goal of making perfume was long-lasting because I have used lots of expensive perfumes but it lasted hardly. When I made it first, it smelled good and was different from regular perfume. I gave it to my friends and relatives, everybody loved it especially my daughter is crazy about perfume because she lives in Dubai and you all know Dubai is famous for one thing, it's perfume. Even my daughter asked me to make another because it lasts more than the expensive one. So, Guys if you are creative, and enjoy creating things of your own then definitely go for it, you will love it.
This is one of the most mysterious profession to me. It's a secret world. Honestly before I found your parfum making videos I have never thought that there are self taught people who create their own houses. I watched one of your videos about 2 years ago. Immediately felt how genuine you were in relation to perfumery, and left a comment in that regard. Since then, I started a mini perfume collection. Then this week the idea struck me that I could consider making my own fragrances, for myself and my loved ones, as a hobby. And although I watched hundreds of videos from fragrance reviewers, perfumers, in the pas few years, the first person that came to mind to check whether I could teach myself how to make fragrances was...you. This is awesome! I’m obsessed with perfume and have purchased so many but I find little that sticks with me. I would love to create my own. I Love that you’re showing the natural way to create perfumes.
Thank you Peter. As a result of this video I got the Mandy Aftel book, a bunch of oils and have now tried the two formulas. It’s been great fun putting these together
Excellent and extremely informative! All of my initial thoughts, concerns, & questions were addressed! Perfect video for beginners!!! Peace, light, love, & Patience, wisdom, Commonle, compassion, understanding, forgiveness, courage, health & healing, & prosperity unto you !!
Thanks for this video mate. I've been passionate about fragrances for a few years now, and I've recently wanted to take the leap of faith into creating my own. This video was not only informative and entertaining to watch, but the books you referenced also create a great starting point.
Oh my God!!! You deserve the Blessings of God Thank you for sharing this knowledge ,this is big and life changing to most of us, thank you once again ♥️ Remain humble dear brother
This is amazing man! I’m huge into fragrances and have recently thought about creating my own for myself and for family. The simple process is honestly very much what I expected and seems like a lot of fun to do honestly. Testing the scents is probably the most fun part. I’m gonna buy a notebook to write down all the mixtures and accords I can make, it’s gonna be fun!
This video marked the start of my interest in making my own colognes. You introduced me to synthetics. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I have really benefitted from it. :)
I have Just started making my own scents, and I thought it was AWSOME when you said Perfumers Apprentice, because that is the ONLY place I go to for my needs! I am still learning, and about to make a lot of bottles for family, friends of Molecule 1&2...I use them as a fixative to boost the Perfumes I have bought, and WOW it saves me money!!! And it works! GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you so much for your work!!! You’re one of those who encourage me to start experimenting. I hope someday you will become worldwide known perfumer.
This video is fantastic! I’m a huge perfume lover and didn’t even think to make my own. Then I came across this video and now I really want to try to make some perfumes for a fun hobby. Thank u very much 💖
I stumbled on your videos because I finally feel brave enough to try out things I’m curious about. The fact that you are so selfless is so inspiring, and you made my quest less scary. Thank you so much. I hope you’ve been enjoying the beauty of life, because that is what you radiate.
Have you ever tried creating your own tinctures? I feel like an alcohol tincture would capture a more complex scent especially when it comes to some of the fancier perfumery components that typically rely on synthetic chemicals. For example using an alcohol ambergris tincture instead of just using ambroxan. Or creating a real oud wood tincture instead of just one singular aromatic synthetic compound thar is responsible for the oud woods distinct scent. You may even be able to use less components to create your perfume.
I just happened on your show on how to make perfumes and I found it very interesting I'm little bit too old now to start that as a hobby but if I were 30 years younger I probably would be very interested in it and the way you explained it was very very interesting and I did learn something about sent that I didn't know so thank you
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I'm a beginner and this teaches me what I would have taken months to find and read. Sadly, I dont have access to many of the materials but the motivation is enough to try something of my own.
👑🙌🏼 Really excellent video! Helpful, informative with great advice. Dipping of the test strip in the oils to not waste the oils is great advice. Thanks for doing an updated perfume making video and sharing your knowledge, Peter xx! ❤️❤️
This was an incredibly informative video. I can tell you’re passionate about this, and you put so much work into this video just out of the goodness of your heart. Thank you so much for this, and for explaining everything so well, you are a gift!
I just came here cause i suddenly had an Idea. It was once in early Spring, i was outside and felt so happy, like you do in spring. Years later i was talking with someone about something else , about visiting a small primeval forrest. While talking about this experience, i told him it wasnt thaat interesting, but tried to describe it still accurate, if its cool to walk in a primeval forrest. The best description i found was actually the smell.. It smelled a bit more calming, and balanced than a normal Forest. So, it dawned on me that smell can give you a very interesting emotion. I was thinking back on the walk in the spring, and it came to my mind that this one time when i walked in spring, it was still very early , cold, the flowers werent showing colors, so: i was wondering WHY i did already get that Springemotion so so strong. And i guess its the smell. I must have smelled the young sprouts , i must have instinctively smelled that "good times" are ahead, that must be inherited very strongly from our Ancestors. Anyway, so i think smell does give you very deep and accurate emotions
Lately i tried to capture this spring-smell trough making my own incense. I mixed : -chesnutwood -applewood -a flower tea-mix (springflowers) -and cinnamon Original idea would have used Cannabis, instead of Cinnamon, but i thought lets stay sober lol. So it rather became a summer smell. Made my own incense with this mixture and burnt it Had problems cause dried flowers can give a nasty burnt smell. (i think especially with high heat) But otherwise it was pretty spot on, i wanted it to be very faint, and i actually think i got this spring summer emotion. It nearly enhanced me, was good . Yep, thats my little excursion, my goal was to just give me a positive emotion, to have no downsides, i think many smells can make you feel dark easily, and it was quiet bright.. jeey.
I don't know from where to start for thanking you. I am really grateful to you for the information shared with us. I am glad to having found you on TH-cam and I hope you will share more products to avoid, products awarenings, accords ideas and products to use to make the perfumes more sophisticated like the ones in the perfumery and long lasting. You really have no idea how people like me, that have this just as a passion, will be thankful to you forever. Your way of explaining is simple and clear and you don't go around but instead directly to the point, something that I really appreciate. Thanks a lot from the bottom of the heart for your effort, care and love towards us. Good luck with whatever you will want to do in your life and I hope that you will have just good people around you.
Peter, thank you so much for this. Really enjoyed this, super helpful and super informative. I am right at the beginning of my journey. I've bought some EOs and Aroma molecules + ABS, however, everything I mix has such a short life span. Been experimenting with things like, known base fixers; patchouli, vetiver plus using things like; iso e, ambrofix but nothing I try last longer than 30 mins, max one hour on the skin, then all I have left is a slightly modified base note or a musk. I use 20% materials 80% perfumers alcohol. Any top tips? Also any tips on a leather accord?
THE best video on starting to make perfume. I liked that you explain the basics (tools, methods, knowledge, etc) and still reference where to get more info from. You hit the sweet spot between common knowledge and expert. I've learnt more from this video than from researching articles, websites online for days! Love it. Wish you all the best! (P. S. Could you reference where your charitable contributions go so it's easier to contribute?)

Hi Peter, Hope you and your family are all well through this difficult time. So sorry to hear the car had to be sent to the scrap yard! I wanted to say a huge thank for your channel which I have just recently come across. Also for this video which is a blessing for all. For you to have your own brand and yet to do this video without any hesitation. Is a true sign of a gentleman, scholar and teacher. If you have time would it be possible to do a more advanced video? Thank for all of the links I have just got in touch with Pell Wall. I am based in the UK and have reached out to you via Instagram DM. Many Thanks for everything. Kind Regards, Rahul.
I once cooked up some random stuff on the stove trying to make a beard oil. If I remember correctly it was Olive oil, vanilla extract and a ground up sandal wood insence stick. I feel like I'm missing somthing. It was...textured, but It smelled like churros or mini doughnuts
Textured, probably from the ground up insence stick. Use 98% of olive oil (or other carrier oils) and only 2% of pure steam distilled essential oils (sandalwood essential oil etc) and definitely not ground up stuff. That's not safe at all.
I’m really into perfume and this came up on my explore page (I see it’s two years old) and just wanted to say your vibe is really warming! Super informative! 😊
You post on basenotes DIY forum? Member chyprefresh here mate. I finally finished a great fragrance, 42 ingredients synthetic and natural. I gotta thank you for your original introduction to perfumery video from years ago for getting my interest in aroma chemicals. This is totally my thing.
I came back to get some info on some things you had said, and I read that You have Your very own Fragrance Brand/Line?! That is AMAZING!!! I am 51 years young, and I WILL make at least One Male fragrance...I never liked Women's frags since I was a kid, and I would ALWAYS get caught using my Pop's Aramis, Brut, Pino Sylvestre, and Polo Green! I blow my son's minds when they see my collection, and always want to use some or have a bottle...I had to lock them in a cabinet! I love the Blue Freshies, all the way to my new love, Oud/Middle Eastern scents! I would like to see your Fragrances, and maybe some tips on a fragrance I HAVE TO LEARN TO MAKE, and it is called Carven L'eau Intense, and MFK was one of the perfumers on this CLASSIC CITRUS, FRESH, AND MINTY BEAST OF A MASTERPIECE!!! Sorry for the caps, but that was my Pop's Favorite, and he passed away on my 15th Birthday. He earned a Purple Heart Medal for his service to my Country, and he had given me his last bottle before he passed...THAT is the main reason I have a Love for Fragrances, always will!.
Thank you SO much. Your videos are amazing and have helped me a ton. I was messing around with witchazle and could not for the love of god get it to separate, for even sitting for a month. Finally I won't be wasting product. You have made me want to continue this as a hobby, just as I was about to quit out of frustration. Subscribed and will continue to watch your videos.
I was researching for home made perfume and then I found your video. Never expected the video to be so informative with both theories and practical demonstrations. This has be to one of the best perfume making videos for beginners, I said that because I have watched some others which are nowhere near as good. Thank you!
Great stuff. My wife's side of the bed: a cabinet with one or two perfumes. My side... A crowd of bottles. Some cheap, some cheaper, one or two V. Expensive. I'm obsessed and it's time I tried to cook up my own (giving it a Breaking Bad vibe-probably inappropriate..) this vid has given me a realistic way in. Cheers sir.
Thanks for the informative video! I enjoyed watching the perfume take shape. Only thing that caused me anxiety was when you were dipping your plastic pipettes into the vials without holding on to the vials themselves. I know you were filming so the angle is awkward, but it reminded me of chemistry class where I knocked over so many of my bottles with my pipettes like that! :)
Extraordinary, professional educational teaching video. Thank you for taking your time to share your wisdom, expertise, knowledge and techniques. Very informative and helpful. Mucho Gracias
I noticed mine if i dont maserate, the fixative does not work. But if igive it 3 to 6 week, longevity improves. By the way love your video. I started perfumery just a hobby 6 months ago. Loving it
Just wanna say, if that’s your website, your product looks so good man!! Lockdown got me thinking about my passions and scent n smell was always one I bypassed. Thank you for your advice !
i am just starting with this hobby but first for beard oils , after i make my first beard oil i wil lstart making a perfume. what i wanted to point out is that when he started talking about accords he kind of made me cry , i do not know how to explain it , but he made me very happy . its the first time i hear abbout accords and i know some of the beard oils and perfumes that i bought up until nw ,may have these accords because you cannot distinctly smell each essential oils in them. he made me want to get into this a lot more. thanks man!
Thank you so much for this video! This is amazing education for perfume making for beginners. you have given me the confidence to make perfumes as I have wanted to for years and years.
Excellent information and advice…better than any professional videos I’ve watched! A few questions: 1. are accords and blends one and the same?; 2. can you tell me the difference between eau de toilet, colognes, puss, etc.?; 3. perfume smells different on every person…do you believe this has to do with blood type? Thanks and keep up the great work! 😊
the difference is just the % of oil to alcohol, cologne is around 1 to 4% perfume oil, the rest alcohol. EDT is 5% to 10% oil, EDP is 10% to around 18% anything over 18% is considered usually as Extrait or pure parfum. - Skin chemistry, it's the oils on your skin and how they react with the perfume
I bought those glass dropper bottle lids that can screw onto 15 mL amber bottles and essential oil bottles, on Amazon. They fit most 15 mL bottles, no need to pour into a new bottle. They don’t seem to have any rubber that comes into contact with the materials in the bottles during use or storage. So far been working quite well for me.
This was an excellent tutorial FV, thank you. On the avoidance of plastic waste, maybe those long Pyrex pipettes with the rubber bulb far away from the tip, cleaned with perfumer's alcohol? Might turn out to be a greener but tedious process. Also, may I ask whether your oils are synthetic, or natural, and how can one distinguish between them when purchasing (and indeed, does it matter)?
I really like your way of teaching. Easy to understand, straight forward. A company I bought colognes from. They discontinued my favorite cologne. Its bergamot, lavender, and leather. I just wanted to know how hard it would be to make a cologne. Then my next idea was to try and make that discontinued cologne for myself
Wow what a great video! So clear and organized! Really really great information. This is my first video into this understanding. So good! Thank you for sharing!
thank you for this! i’ve wanted to make my own perfume for years and received such a nice beginners kit for christmas but i’ve been too scared/intimidated to start (i think cuz its my ultimate dream and i dont want to find out i suck at it lol).... i really appreciate that you’ve taken the time to put all this info out 😊🙏🏼 i’m just gonna go for it
I love to experiment, trying my hand at creating fragrances or just testing how well materials smell together. My tools are the raw materials, 8ml vials, a .001 scale and .5ml plastic pipettes. I find the .5ml pipettes perfect for dealing with such small amounts. I've used 95% grain alcohol, but much prefer perfumer's alcohol. I feel the perfumer's version leaves a cleaner, more neutral smell, while the 95% left a slightly grainy after-smell. Nice refresh video Peter!
Thank you so much for this video, I'm learning a lot& will be referencing back to it often!I would love to hear you explain more on notes and chords and how many different notes each top middle and base can have to complete your cord.🙌👍
This video is SO incredibly helpful, wise, and informative. It gives me hope that I can get going sooner with what I want to create. Thank you so much and I'd love to see you make more perfumes!

I love musk and woody fragrances ...but in the shops here in Portugal 🇵🇹 you only have the the top sellers which I think all smell the same .During this pandemic I have learned a lot ...I do think I am going to start this hobby because I don’t walk ...I have a great nose so 🙏🏻 thanks because I do think this a thing I love. 😘

I barely realized 36 minutes had already passed, there’s something about the way you make your videos. Thanks for taking time to inspire others
Lots of information without any unnecessary rambling and fluff
Exactly. It felt like he was having an interesting discussion with a friend (the friend being the viewer).
Please where can i buy perfume kits
Oh my God!!! You deserve the Blessings of God
Thank you for sharing this knowledge ,this is big and life changing to most of us, thank you once again ♥️
Remain humble dear brother
This is amazing man! I’m huge into fragrances and have recently thought about creating my own for myself and for family. The simple process is honestly very much what I expected and seems like a lot of fun to do honestly. Testing the scents is probably the most fun part.
I’m gonna buy a notebook to write down all the mixtures and accords I can make, it’s gonna be fun!
This video marked the start of my interest in making my own colognes. You introduced me to synthetics. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I have really benefitted from it. :)
I love this. Thank you! You're really going into the nuts and bolts of how to make something and that's very inspiring.
Whenever my family or friend asks me for my advice on pursuing a passion / business, I use your example of buying a guitar and quote you.
WOW, just found you on here, your amazing, i loved this from start to finish
Cheers
Thank you so much for your work!!! You’re one of those who encourage me to start experimenting. I hope someday you will become worldwide known perfumer.
EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for on my fragrance journey! You’re a king amongst men my friend! Thank you so much for this priceless Info!
Sadly, I dont have access to many of the materials but the motivation is enough to try something of my own.
how ml adding alcholl?
This video is the best. So easy to understand. Explains things and recommends resources. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Thank you for taking your time and expertise to share with us! GOD bless you, may it return to you ten fold! :))
That green mat on your desk is a quilter’s cutting board. You can order whatever size you want from sewing supply stores, maybe even Amazon.
👑🙌🏼
Really excellent video! Helpful, informative with great advice. Dipping of the test strip in the oils to not waste the oils is great advice. Thanks for doing an updated perfume making video and sharing your knowledge, Peter xx! ❤️❤️
Thanks Lily ❤️
I wish you infinite wealth my dear, you basically show us how to make perfume like a pro ! thank you kindly !❤❤
This was an incredibly informative video. I can tell you’re passionate about this, and you put so much work into this video just out of the goodness of your heart. Thank you so much for this, and for explaining everything so well, you are a gift!
No problem
I mixed :
-chesnutwood
-applewood
-a flower tea-mix (springflowers)
-and cinnamon
Original idea would have used Cannabis, instead of Cinnamon, but i thought lets stay sober lol.
So it rather became a summer smell.
Made my own incense with this mixture and burnt it
Had problems cause dried flowers can give a nasty burnt smell. (i think especially with high heat)
But otherwise it was pretty spot on, i wanted it to be very faint, and i actually think i got this spring summer emotion. It nearly enhanced me, was good .
Yep, thats my little excursion, my goal was to just give me a positive emotion, to have no downsides, i think many smells can make you feel dark easily, and it was quiet bright.. jeey.
Great stuff, Peter....always informative, interesting, and helpful. Much appreciated. Cheers!
Cheers Jim
Even I'm a beginner, so I'm not sure as to why it's not lasting as long. But I believe labdanum was a leathery accord.
Bro u should use iso e super .. ambrette musk
I donate monthly to Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue, an organisation in West Africa that rescue chimps from the bush meat trade and protect them in a 100 acre forest with 24hr caregivers
Kind Regards,
Rahul.
Very welcome brother, thank you
@@FragranceView Brother, your welcome and a true pleasure.. 🙏..!
Hello Peter! Thank you very much for this video! I work as a Natural Perfumery teacher in Brazil and your video inspired me a lot.
I once cooked up some random stuff on the stove trying to make a beard oil.
If I remember correctly it was
Olive oil, vanilla extract and a ground up sandal wood insence stick. I feel like I'm missing somthing. It was...textured, but
It smelled like churros or mini doughnuts
Textured, probably from the ground up insence stick. Use 98% of olive oil (or other carrier oils) and only 2% of pure steam distilled essential oils (sandalwood essential oil etc) and definitely not ground up stuff. That's not safe at all.
Great and thorough introduction to making perfumery with lots of exceptional and useful tips not to burn through your materials to quickly
I'm laughing at myself at the guitar part. That was so accurate and I feel attacked.
I don't use Basenotes sorry
Scent and chemistry is unbelievably expensive
Wow, it's very evident that you are a really intelligent guy. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
Glad l came across this Chanel. Am making generic oil based perfumes and would love create my own brand in the coming years.
Thank you Peter
This is incredible! I hope the universe rewards you handsomely for sharing such an ancient art form and secret. Thank you. You are inspirational
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. When you started with book references and suggestions I knew you are someone to listen to.
Just realized this was here! I remember your previous videos! As an aspiring perfumer, I am watching this asap!
You are good sir Peter
Am from Nigeria
Watching your video was never a waste of time
I promise to make you proud
THANK YOU for saving me from diplomas , degrees etc bless you and THOSE LIKE YOU where you may be.💖💖💖
I was researching for home made perfume and then I found your video. Never expected the video to be so informative with both theories and practical demonstrations. This has be to one of the best perfume making videos for beginners, I said that because I have watched some others which are nowhere near as good. Thank you!
Thanks
Great stuff. My wife's side of the bed: a cabinet with one or two perfumes. My side... A crowd of bottles. Some cheap, some cheaper, one or two V. Expensive. I'm obsessed and it's time I tried to cook up my own (giving it a Breaking Bad vibe-probably inappropriate..) this vid has given me a realistic way in. Cheers sir.
I learned more in this video than I have spending hours searching online and on TH-cam. Thank you, Peter! Will be buying you a coffee. :)
I am just starting out in the fragrance design hobby and love 💕 it. Thanks 🙏 for the video.
this was so much fun and inspiring to watch! I appreciated the reality check moment about not going overboard in the beginning, that's very relatable.
I really want my own perfume line and this gave me a bit of an idea on how to go about it. Thanking you 💚💚
Extraordinary, professional educational teaching video.
Loving it
Just stumbled across your page and I think I found myself a new hobby thanks to you👏
Just wanna say, if that’s your website, your product looks so good man!! Lockdown got me thinking about my passions and scent n smell was always one I bypassed. Thank you for your advice !
Centauri is my own brand yes, thank you!
i am just starting with this hobby but first for beard oils , after i make my first beard oil i wil lstart making a perfume. what i wanted to point out is that when he started talking about accords he kind of made me cry , i do not know how to explain it , but he made me very happy . its the first time i hear abbout accords and i know some of the beard oils and perfumes that i bought up until nw ,may have these accords because you cannot distinctly smell each essential oils in them. he made me want to get into this a lot more. thanks man!
You're welcome
Just watched your video - thank you - absolutely brilliant. Laid back, concise, informative and fun. Can't wait to get started.
This might be the greatest video in fragcomm history
Thank You so much, Peter!!! very clear, calm, simple, affordable for me!!! send u a big hug from Argentina!
Peter, Mandy is fabulous, I've met her and her husband and son in California. Charming.
We made vanillin. Amazing that it ended up here.
So good! Thank you for sharing!
thank you for this! i’ve wanted to make my own perfume for years and received such a nice beginners kit for christmas but i’ve been too scared/intimidated to start (i think cuz its my ultimate dream and i dont want to find out i suck at it lol).... i really appreciate that you’ve taken the time to put all this info out 😊🙏🏼 i’m just gonna go for it
Have fun with it 🙏🏼
I can relate to this so much. I'm on the same boat.
Thank you
Thank you so much for this video, I'm learning a lot& will be referencing back to it often!I would love to hear you explain more on notes and chords and how many different notes each top middle and base can have to complete your cord.🙌👍
This video is SO incredibly helpful, wise, and informative. It gives me hope that I can get going sooner with what I want to create. Thank you so much and I'd love to see you make more perfumes!
Thank you Carina
Peter, thank You so much for this inspiring video! I dream of trying it as soon as possible!
Thank you so much for making this video. I found it super helpful. I will try it out very soon.
This was immensely helpful!! Thanks so much for the oil and alcohol leads 👍🏼
