Every visitor to Bangkok must see this video. Great info! My experience with taxi's was pleasant overall but there were a few times I got into a taxi and the drivers wanted to negotiate a price to get to my destination. I simply told each one, turn on the meter and that is the price I will pay. And they did.
@@kimschan2642 No. You don't want high speed in Bangkok. They drive crazy even at medium speed. And stay away from motorcycle taxi completely. Those drivers are really crazy driving on opposite side of street and on sidewalks and super fast.
some excellent advice. I have been here many times. The idler of your destination giving directions to the driver works really well. To take pictures or even leaflets of places works well. I have even shown taxi drivers tourist attractions they did not know about. A lot of taxi drivers are not from Bangkok some are even farmers only there for the quite season. Have fun.
Well done video and the part about having small money for taxi is useful as most all taxis will claim not to have change. Hope you do more videos as your presentation is very clear and video done professionally.
Thank you for your lovely comment! Yes, we are planning on doing more videos in the future, the next one should be out soon! Feel free to subscribe to be notified of when we upload a new video! Thanks again
A year after this video the situation changed a bit The government is enforcing the meter use Just at a few places, like safari world, mo chit bus station are still in control of the "taxi mafia" If i wanna go to destinations far away i use grab as the taxi driver will mostly refuse to take you I live half the year in bangkok and never been not taken without meter Great guide, newbies should watch it;)
Good rule of thumb I use here in Bangkok is to use the same taxis locals use. If I see one stopping and letting a local out, I assume they’re good to use and flag them down
Very informative and nice presentation. Are you going to make other how to videos for Bangkok? There are many topicss such as various types of city buses, BTS, songteo, klong boat, train, motorcycle taxi, apartment hunting, jobs, visas, education, travel, airlines, banking, shopping, eating, etc.
Thank you for your comment! Yes, we are planning on doing a lot more videos. We are now working on the series: How To Bangkok, where we explain all the different transportation's. After that we will definitely touch on some of those subjects you mentioned!
That's an awesome plan! I viewed several other Co van Kessel Bangkok tour videos. But they are quite short and without the narration it's like watching silent movies with all the stories, details and information missing. Nina is a very good, detailed, articulate and charming presenter and will make the videos more informative, educational, interesting and understandable.
Some meter move at high speed, even those at Airport kiosk, should photo the driver particular n complain later, Went there on 10/6/24 Airport taxi get from kiosk,2 taxi same small taxi but reach hotel 1 show 241, another show 498 baht ????
Excellent advice thanks I will subscribe. Sounds dangerous riding a bicycle around the city,I have a Bafang8Fun 1 HP mid drive on my bicycle I love it,takes me up any hill and goes 30mph on flat paved road, 50 or more mile range. Do you have any electric bikes ? I'm interested in your service.
Thank you Eric for you kind words! We know it seems dangerous riding the bike through the city, but we stay away from the busy roads, and take the back alleyways to show you the real Bangkok. Unfortunately we don't have any electric bikes. We ride in a relaxed way, no long distances, plenty of stops and no crazy uphill areas. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Can hotels organise a van or taxi to take tourists around for a fee, or are there companies in bangkok that organise something like that for families for a fee?
I would suggest booking a grab than taking a taxi, because so many taxi scams anywhere in Thailand, they took an advantage of foreigners. Not all taxi, but most are like that. I said this based on my experience.
And just 1 more thing as an example my wife - Thai got in a taxi last night gave him her location with a big landmark and 5 mins later he said I will take a shortcut, what resulted was a 30 min journey turned into over 1 hour, when she questioned him during travel he said oh I didn't hear you right, consequently a 100 baht fare become 300 baht. I was waiting for her at home and the taxi driver dropped her and he took off like a rocket, well knowing I was extremely angry..
I don't agree with having to ask the taxi driver to accept you, they all should and I believe it's compulsory for them to take you on board and to your destination. I wouldn't encourage you to tell this on your channel, just get another taxi, if the taxi driver doesn't know your destination's, 2 options first they can use GPS, and second really they drive around all day 7 days a week, it's doubtful that they don't know your destination point, it simply doesn't suit them, generally because there smart enough to sum you up as a tourist or someone who lives here, also if there's no expressways via your destination they don't like that either, nor getting caught in a high build up areas. I've personally been in many taxis that try have attempted to go the long way round to destinations or refuse me as a customer because I will not allow them to take the expressways. So I'm sure people will read this and learn something.. and in terms of the metre if they don't put it on immediately and or your request shows no results get out and find another taxi, or better still catch a bus or go the BTS That's mostly what I do now.
Like DrDave87 If there are ten taxi's in a row, you go to the first one, no meter, you step out, the other ten see you stepped out again, they immediately know why and none of them will use the meter. And if you are in the midfle of nowhere, hold on a taxi.... my experience... they know you depend on them... no mete, get out... next .... no meter... get out... next.... no... next... ... there you stand... 300 bath ? What shall I do ? ... motorbiketaxi if possible ! Otherwise 200 or sometimes 300, you want to go to your destination !
Here is a few things you won't see with french cabs : Unlike thai cabs , they only refuse if you don't have money ( they ask before you go in ) or because they're waiting someone ( the cab in France can be reseved via companies ) They know the town very well , only the news driver cabs don't know all the areas . They're supposed to accept you no matter where you go . If you go 10 km further , they have to deal with it . Else it's just acting like an ass . Few points i like to tell : Drivers have shifts , if your destination will cause the cab to finish shift later , they will say no Cabs can make you pay extra for luggages , animals ( dogs that are category 1 or 2 . These categories mean that some breeds of dogs are considered dangerous and forbidden in any kind of road transports ) Last , if your driver were an asshole , call the company and complain ( remember the cab number and the appearance of the driver )
But becare, lots of dishonest taxi driver, with meter moving high speed,2 taxi ,small type but same destination different price of 100% went there on 10/6/24 ,1 show 241 another show 498, from Airport kiosk

Hi good looking
Taxis and BTS are both very affordable and safe ways to get around Bangkok, the traffic is insane there.
If possible always use the BTS rather than a taxi. With a taxi, you will always get stuck in traffic.
An informative video narrated by a sweet girl.
Hi! We're going to Bangkok soon. Do we need to pay the toll gates when we book grab? Thanks!
Yes, you have to pay that. The toll gate is an extra cost out of taxi/grab's fare.

Wow..they use a corolla for a regular taxi..wow

Most of the hotels can of course help you. I would recommend to use a van because it is more comfortable than taxi.

just because the law says they can't refuse to take you, doesn't mean that they will.
I remember. My grandpa was veteran taxis . Edit: or dad is old VETERAN
I rarely have any problems with Metered Taxi in Bangkok.... but it is different in other places...and to use a taxi to go long distance
I think the taxi number is 1644 not 1164? Video says 1164...
Right, the correct number is 1644.
beaucoup d'arnaques les taxis exiger le compteur avant de monter.
Many scams taxis require the meter before going up.
ไปนอนค้างบ้านโอชินกัน
The taxi driver must push the meter button only.
I recommend Grab Taxxi and Uber Not cheating. Form Thai People.

Bangkok taxis are mostly Corollas.
@@johnwxh30 Made in Thailand.
1 of 10 taxi will use taximeter, u've got to wait hours to have one
Only near popular tourist places like Khao san / Sukhumvit / grand palace etc.. Everywhere else in Bangkok, you should be okay.
Living here over 7 yrs., never had that problem.
that drone pilot can get in trouble for flying over the street. But she is adorable.
Print out your destination do not give these drivers your phone with a picture they will drive off with your phone
So, it is better not to take a taxi, it is too complicated! Rent a bike!!!!
In Bangkok I wouldn't chiang mai phuket ko Samui is OK less traffic

Skip the taxi and go straight to the Tuk Tuk.
Left hand Thai?? Seriously🙄
