  • After getting into the world of log loader trailers with the Wallenstein LXT95 for the last while, the time has come for the next size up. Here is my new Wallenstein LXT115 with hydraulic winch. This log loader trailer doubles the carrying capacity while increasing boom reach and grapple opening size. To sum things up, this thing is BIG. I'm looking forward to introducing all of you to this new log loader trailer which I"ll be using from now on to move logs and other material all around. Glad you're all here for this exciting introduction.

    Geez Sandy. I had no idea you had such monster sized logs on your property. I am so used to see you milling up match stick and tooth pick sized red pine for you lumber. That new trailer is certainly a stout machine.

      @sawingwithsandy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah there's some big trees here that I don't mill much just because I have so many red pines that need thinning.

    Enjoy your videos, Sandy. Appreciate your sharing about the bigger log lifter. This probably means wider materials produced on the sawmill. Looking forward to seeing new projects. Man what a nice trailer. I have a home made on and off the road trailer but has an electric winch to lift logs on or raise the dump. Was perfect for my L4740 but I sold that tractor and bought a new L2502. Did not get to use the L2502 yet because here in East Coast Canada we got a hug winter storm 100 cm. Guess I won't be using it anytime soon.

    Looking forward to seeing some real use of that, especially during the winter time. Also when ready hearing the review of both and your thinking of buying the smaller one first and then switching. No hurry though, think that bit through. But I bet a bunch of people will find your conclusions useful.
    Trying to think back how my uncle did this with a tractor 30 years back. He must have borrowed some equipment. The mad lad spent about 5 years cutting firewood to fill a 3 or 4 wide garage shed up to the rafters in his early 50's. He wanted enough for his lifetime. Ended up overshooting by a few years, but my cousins son didn't have to think about firewood while renovating. There's a life lesson here, you'll never regret making extra firewood.

    I am much happier with this loader Sandy as the controls are a lot smoother and so safer for you. I seen significant improvement over the other machine which are both very capable yet your talents as a operator are still in learning stage. I just know for sure that I was too hard on you for that other machine was not ideal for what you were doing. It had its place but lets just be honest, if it is not working with you then its not as safe.. Please don't ask how I know... lets say I wear all of those scars and have yet to feel safe around a green operator who set a log on me, breaking my back, crushing several ribs and put me in a chopper headed for Providence in Seattle Washington and nearly died. I got hurt just after the age of twenty one, home from Nam where I might of got killed just to have my home folk take me out for seventeen months. Times were different as far as doctoring went and so different things they do now were not available to me then. I am going to go off of Hospice currently and go to the surgeon again. I only have one kidney and its been damaged from a whole host of different reasons. That means my body could go septic quite easily since I also have Lymphoma and that friend is worse case scenario for anyone who has that problem. I apologize as my memory is just horrible and so can't bring to mind just how you locate those ball hitches that have the hydraulic valve in them reading how much the tongue weight is. It slides into the receiver on the tow rig and doesn't need any special hoses or other as it is self contained and also affordable. They are available for fifth wheel also. You do have to go over to the gauge to see how much the weight is as its not a electric mount in cab style.... I suppose that might be available as well but since your standing right next to the hitch, you would be looking right down on it making it a no brainer.... an you can place it on a tractor as well.... no limits in other words

    With this new trailer, the longer, taller grapple is going to take a little adjustment in loading logs on your sawmill!! You will probably want to stage the trailer farther away to be able to swing in under the roof, with the boom straight I would think!! With the extra power, that should be no problem. Always nice to have the extra power, or length, or size, when you need it! Looks like a nice upgrade/ upsize!

    Sandy, with larger/heavier logs with this machine, you are moving significantly MORE mass, thus more momentum with the object in motion. You're used to the smaller machine so go a little slower with the hydraulics. Take your time, buddy...................

    New trailer looks nice Sandy....I sell between 60-80 full cord of firewood every year. I am looking for a trailer similar to this for my sawmill also, but was wondering if I could use the grapple to load firewood into my dump trailer? I store my cut firewood on pallets to keep it clean and dry, so using a rock bucket is out of the question for me. I was hoping the grapple would grip enough to help me in loading my trailer? Your comment please?

    Sandy my 46 year old son two days ago was checking front diff axle housing on a shear on his logging job. the vent tube was blocked and when the pulled the plug to check it had so much pressure, he and another young man caught the worst of the pressure. he will be out work of his job for two weeks. 2nd deg. burns on his hands because of soft gloves and on his belly . What I am trying to say is be ware of checking fluids when worked hard. all machines has to have vents but can stop up. you prob. know this. sorry for long preaching just passing things that could be.

    Wondering if your tractor has a trailer brake receptacle? Your other trailer had surge brakes that helped going down hills. Might get dicey on muddy downhill trailes.. especially if you have a load in bucket on da tractor...i like the highway tires and such...adds alot of versatility....

    I have the LXT115. I bought it because it was on and off road capable. It’s a decent log trailer. For me- I wish it could handle 16 foot logs and have a longer boom with an extension. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep it or sell it- TBD.

      Hey Richard. Yeah can imagine the bigger the trailer you can get the better for the 16'.

    Hi Sandy. At the equipment show, I noticed you touched one of the "wings" on a loader. That made me begin to wonder....... I noticed that you have a tie down point on the rear. I have seen where some manufacturers allow folks to try out a machine for some time before they decide to buy it or not. Is 11' the maximum length your mill will take? If it isn't, I imagine this loader could carry the max length to the mill. Have good days!

      Hey there! Real nice log loader trailer for sure. There's tie down points on the front and back end of the trailer for strapping down the logs which is nice. The sawmill will cut up to just under 17'. I'd imagine I could fit that on this log loader trailer.

    Sandy you’re a sly dog I thought you’d really goofed up getting rid of that log loader and then you get a bigger one. Good job very happy for you and jealous.

      Hey Rex! Glad you liked the video and thanks for coming along for the video. I don't know how I'd ever get rid of a log loader trailer for good (unless a massive forwarder followed me home haha)

    I have enjoyed your channel for a long time now and really love the sawmill videos and the project videos but it seems that here lately your videos are just one infomercial after another.
    There was a time that I immediately gave a "thumbs up" to your videos before even watching them but I cannot do that now.
    This is your channel and I expect you to do what is best for you, I am simply giving some personal feedback.
    I will continue to watch your videos' just not necessarily all of them.

      Thanks for coming along for the videos. It can be difficult to juggle what topics suit everyone as you can imagine with some liking the detailed spec videos, others liking build videos, wood splitting videos, mechanical repair videos etc. Thank you for the feedback and coming along for the videos.

    Nice upgrade but are you sure it will operate under your sawshed? I imagine the grapple might be taller as well as wider. Hopefully, everything still fits comfortably.

      Good question Robert. I'm thinking it should work out with a bit more practice

    Very nice machine, can I ask, when you attached the blue saw to the Lewis winch, did you need to purchase the direct mount kit from the Lewis winch folks or did you just buy the one needed saw sprocket adapter from a saw dealer?
    Thanks, they want $130 for the kit and I don't know if I need the kit or not.
    I have the same saw and winch as you. Cheers from Nova Scotia.

    Sandy, what was the overall lift capacity on the crane, let's say if your close to a log and don't have to extend all the way out? I'm in the market for one now but I really need 2,000 or so lift capacity.

    Nice .... upgrade in the getter done department. Are you setting up in log size? I'm just wondering.

      Good question. I've got a bunch of red pines to still thin but will be using other log sizes when they're available

    Hey, have you had a chance to take this trailer on the road behind a truck? I'm really interested in one of these, but I need to be able to run the highway some and definitely roads often. I'm curious if loaded with logs, would it tow at 65mph well?

    • @sawingwithsandy
      @sawingwithsandy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. I have driven it on the highway doing around 60mph but it was empty. One thing I noted was since it doesn't have suspension it does tend to bounce. I think if I were to be hauling logs on the highway regularly I'd look more for a trailer with suspension

      @sawingwithsandy thanks for the response. For the price point this one is at, it's hard to bat an eye. I might have to deal with staying off highways as much as possible. Appreciate it.

    Just want to know: Why a gasoline engine and not a pto-pump or hydraulics straight from the tractor? No criticism just curiosity 😁.

      You just have to watch how much payload you put in the trailer. I’d tow it with a 1/2 ton
