Wow! I could watch that thing work all day... Nice addition to your arsenal. One observation/suggestion for you and Wallenstein. Where the grapple decks to the trailer for transport, I would add a piece of wood or heavy rubber mat to protect the 2 pieces so the trailer frame and grapple don't rub raw. I can see wear spots developing quickly.
Sandy every time I see you start some of your new implements I smile since I remember you trying to start the god for awful log splitter, I laughed my but off. at any rate the self loading trailer is a game changer for you in your production.
hahah I was looking at the old splitter today as I passed by it in the yard. I almost got an itching to see if it would run then I remembered the exercise routine that it took to get it going last time haha
Nice forwarder trailer. I found loading close logs first to get a little weight on trailer makes it more stable when reaching out to pick further away logs. It makes things easy on the tractor.
Sandy, I built my own log loader by mounting it on a five ton truck with long wheelbase. I used the mini excavator top half on the truck frame mounted up high where its setting on the top of the cab guard. I like the fact that you have something but for me, too complicated. I like excavator controls so its all on just two levers and your total controls of side movements, rotation of grapples and of course the main boom and the jib boom (jib is the short boom that goes from the main to the grapples) I had buttons on the handles of the two controls to open or close on one and the other turned the grapple making it quick and easy for me. My truck was a dedicated log truck and could haul legal highway loads. I had ran excavators for years so learning these controls was just like falling off of a log.... "we all remember our first time falling off of a log in the woods and having to dig our way out of that embarrassing moment when everyone sees ya fall and once you are okay then its a good laugh at you. I had trusted my "caulk boots" and the bark peeled off sending me about fifteen feet down through all the thick brush breaking the fall but ripping my shirt and pants up. Even I laughed once the pain settled down a bit. I seen that nice grab on two logs at once, thats the right thing to do as you gain confidence in it. I can not speak for your machine but I did tell you how to run your excavator and it not be so jerky... that is when you open two controls at once breaking the high pressure of the oil in the hoses. It just might be the same with this as it is quite jerky ....... about the only other way to fight something this quick is having a foot control like a car or pickup. Then once the machine is doing what you want, you can increase the engine RPM's to match the movements... just keep practicing and you'll be a pro in no time.... your quite dedicated to learning new things and I just know you will enjoy it.... even after a limb or something does slap you or get a dent in the machine... its pretty tough built so that will take some doing. No need to ask how I know, I took the door off of my truck getting too cocky.

you are doing awesome and grinning is allowed, even encouraged. Good catch on dropping your outriggers at beginning of video. We found out pretty quickly how important that was. You don't even want to swing the boom sideways without the outriggers deployed. We even have an acronym, a short memory checklist of items we check before using the loader and before moving it. For yours it could be something like ''HOLAB'' for Hitch pin, Outriggers, Lock pin, Axle position, Brake lock. Whatever works for you... an acronym, a printed list or a simple flow from front to back. Just a suggestion as it is so easy to forget something and do expensive damage on injure yourself. Keep on smiling my friend. oups, was forgetting... I personally would shy away from loading the mill directly off the loader. I much prefer unloading on a log deck and rolling gently onto the mill.

Great to see you so excited with your new trailer. I was recently watching a guy from Estonia, Donn DIY, who built his own version of a trailer like this and an ATV capable of towing it. The big feature of the ATV was a PTO from the rear axle, and the trailer has axles powered by the ATV.
Sandy, I think you're the guy having the most fun on TH-cam! One thing I might try on that trailer is to see if it will operate at an idle/off Idle. Possibly it will slow things down a bit until you get up to speed. Restrictors in that rotate function for the grapple would be my other thought 🤔. Keep up the good work, and Thanks

Cool tool. I’d play with that thing all day. It’s like the claw machine at the carnival. Only you win with every grab. Unless you drop a log on your chainsaw or something. Don’t do that!!! Awesome video Sandy.
Looks like a lot of fun plus it saves the logs from the dirt. You might consider starting the engine and letting it run slow on the way out to where you are going to use it. That will warm up the hydraulic oil and be a little bit easier on the pump and motor.
For sure Mike. Although I don't film it often, I warm up all the equipment before I start filming to get up to operating temperture for just that reason

I use it to load my firewood processor it will pick up the 25 foot logs and put them on there one at a time. My logger tells me the tri-axle truck brings me know less then 20 tons of wood Per load last season 2022 I processed 40 loads I usually do between 40 and 50 per year I have had to re-weld some stuff and buy a few new parts for it I do not Believe it is Any fault of the manufacturer as I never move the trailer it just sits in a permanent spot to load that processor the trailer really is a beast it is well-made and I could see a normal operation just moving logs this thing lasting for 30 years

Sandy that's a awesome rig and your doing great with it. in no time you be a pro at it. i love to own one maybe sometime take care and have a great day
You did a great job. One thing might suggest is set the loader up so the controls work the same as your excavator or visa versa .it will make things easier. All you have to do is switch some hoses
Fantastic! This would solve so many problems a sawmill owner has. I just ordered a new Toyota Tacoma so this won't be in my arsenal....at least not this year.😁 Truly happy for you Sandy!👍
@@sawingwithsandy I've been waiting 30 years for a truck. Got the Off-Road model with all the bells and whistles. I totally understand your excitement.
Hey buddy how are ya? Wow that is a cool toy/tool. I would love to have a better way to load and move logs!! A Log arch and a Jeep is what I’m doing now. This spring I will build a bigger arch to handle 36” logs. Got jobs that are bigger now need to move bigger stuff. Thanks for sharing, God bless you and yours buddy!
Hi Sandy, Nice piece of equipment. I never operated anything like that before, so I am not trying to give you advice. If I was loading the logs on the trailer, I would put the end of the log that is lower towards the front of the trailer. I think that would make it easier to bring them up to the guard. Maybe someone with experience can comment on that? P.S. It nice to see that different equipment supplier are realizing that you showcase the equipment you use very well and they can benefit from that.
Hi Joel, I think that's some great advice and I appreciate you sharing it. The low end going in first I think would be a good one for me to try out next time around. Thanks again for watching
Hello Mr. Sandy, now all that trailer needs is steering tech and and all wheel assist drive and it would be ultra-ized (if that is a word?) You have improved, much smoother operation than last vid.
Hi Sandy!!😀😀 Nice little skidding trailer. You are catching on pretty quickly. By the time you do 15 to 20 loads you will be getting pretty good with it. Now you pretty much have everything you need to do the selective thinning that needs to be done. Take care my friend!!😀😀💚 Logger Al
Very nice machine, but around $24,000.00 is out of my price range. Be great for someone who makes money with it but I'm going to have to stick with skidding since I only move logs for my own use. Would be great to have though and I'm very happy for you getting to use it and show it. Thanks sandy keep up the great content.
Thanks Bill. yeah certainly an investment that one would have to consider the pros and cons for before getting. Good to have ya along for the videos and appreciate your support
It does take awhile to get smooth operating. But once you get it will flow smooth. It looks like the boom and stick is opposite of an excavator. I would have to switch the hoses to match an excavator. I have a log trailer with a deere loader off of a dozer. It’s a homemade trailer holds 4 cords. But it’s a 6 lever valve bank. Peace
Nice rig for sure, the only problem is lack of tool storage. Like chainsaw, axe, sludge, peavey, sludge, gas, straps etc.Be aware that the stabilizer legs will bleed down over time so may need pinning or strappin up. Not a huge deal unless you drive off without checking.
SANDY! Hey, ya did great! It's obvious your excavator experience came thru today. You watched "the bucket" - the grapple - instead of your hands as you loaded logs. What you said at the end of the video is something I was also thinking... how/where to position your new machine to load logs onto the sawmill. Take care, bro, and we'll see you on the next one...........
Thanks Carl! I hope to get it loading logs onto the sawmill before long. I"ll be sure to get the camera out and bring everyone along. Hope you're doing well!
Certainly a nice bit of kit well suited to the application I'm surprised you have used or for a lot arch for use in out of the way location great content brilliant filmed fantastic watching
When you start loading, if the logs you are going to load are not evenly piled, just like the game of " Pick Up Sticks" go for. the highest one. In doing that you will not have the logs rolling off possibly in a dangerous position. Again great setup.
Just one more thing 😜 like the content love your video I thought that was a first-time watcher but apparently I've already subscribed you got a nice-looking view of woods up there in Canada A when you enjoy your work you're not working you're playing with the purpose
You did good yes you still got some learning to do with it but you can not teach experience you got to earn it by doing it yourself one of the hard part is the balance of the weight so your logs stay even when you go up but that comes with experience of judging the weight so great job keep at it and you will be next to the pro soon have a great day
I ordered mine with a winch and I use it a lot. The boom is a little short- it would be great if you could get 15-16 feet reach. It doesn’t take long to get the hang of it.
Kind of makes me think of the arcade machine games where you operate a claw like grapple to pick up a toy of some kind some more expensive ones actually had useb,e things like watches pocket knife jewelry ect actually cost more to play the machine to get than what the prize was worth other than the satisfaction of actually getting out lol lol lol
Wow, what a labor saver !!! I'll bet you were thinking about how much difference there is in the time it took to get those logs up on the bunks the old way?
Yeah it sure does save a bunch of effort as normally I"d have to skid them over there in less numbers and load them individually with the tractor which takes more time
Hi Sandy. Great bit of kit and some impressive handling for a ‘newbie’! Lots of benefits. Looks like a fair overhang, could you attach a trailer extension to give more stability?
I'd imagine you could extend it if necessary. I"m thinking they kept the log loading area at 8' to keep the weight under control for UTV's to tow in the woods and to allow for easy maneuvering in the tight bush.
@@sawingwithsandy I think you are right, but maybe the little tractor would cope well with an extra section of trailer and maybe more wheels. Starting to sound like a big job though ;) Going to be interesting to see it in use while you are in felling and collecting mode ;) Cheers Ray (UK)
Looks like fun to operate and I'm sure you'll get faster just like a backhoe operator or someone who's great in a skidsteer. That said, I think I'd have saved my $25,000 and gotten a trailer with sides and a tractor grapple. The tractor, IMO, would be faster and a great grapple is in the $1500 to $2500 range. That's just my opinion though.
I bet if you throttle back your engine a bit the motions wouldn’t be so jerky. I had a factory backhoe on a old massy Ferguson tractor. It called for 540 at the PTO when the backhoe was in us. I just found it too hard to control. When I decreased to 500, the motion was much smoother with very little decrease in power or speed. Something to think about.
@@sawingwithsandy is the controls on your mini x backward from the controls on the log loader? That would be horrible trying to develop some muscle memory.
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………. I thought you were going to use it without putting the stabilizers down. I thought “ OH NO!! The “ Safety Sallies “ will have a field day in the comments!!” You remembered though, 🤔but now that I think about it, it would have been an interesting comment generator! LOL!! Have a good day.
I've watched a truck-mounted rig like your trailer. The operator is able to flick the clamp and grab branches and/or trunks with it to hold the piece while someone cuts it. I just wonder if that's somethine your rig would be able to do? Maybe the weight of a whole tree might be too much for yours though? Just a thought for the future.
Hi Grace, I'd imagine depending on the size of the log/tree that may be the deciding factor. I'm pretty new to it but it's seeming like it can do a lot of different maneuvers
I have seen them lay the log crosswise across the other logs in the trailer that way the log is supported by the trailer not just the grapple. Then the shorter cut off section of log is loaded and the process is repeated for really long logs.
It takes practice and repetition and less quick moves of joystick controls There maybe a way to control the speed of the swivel head so it’s not so aggressive when activated. But more control time and you will be proficient at controls 😊😊
I can't help but notice how straight the rows in your woods are. Is that how all the woods in Canada are?? Most of them that I have seen in the south and midwest aren't that straight. Just things that I notice.
Tried the lx 115 out yesterday …. Just winched some logs out of the firewood pile . It feels like I’m going to need to be close to the mill to set logs on smoothly. I think it’s really going to change a lot ways I do things. Did you see the bucket option ? What are your thoughts on it?
Those 115 models are real nice too! I think the bucket option looks pretty neat, I'd just want to check on the down pressure abilities but for me sincei I've got the mini ex I"d likely not use that type of accessory
Cool rig. It's like a giant claw machine! Do you really still have that much snow wherever you are in Central Ontario? I'm 30 mins Southwest of London and I think my grass is starting to grow...lol Dave

Sandy that's a awesome rig and your doing great with it. in no time you be a pro at it. i love to own one maybe sometime take care and have a great day
Thanks Wallace!
That Fuffer rocks!
Very Nicely Done I know they are tricky
Thanks Scott! Worked out well for me on this one
New toys are GREAT!
Thanks Frank!
You did a great job. One thing might suggest is set the loader up so the controls work the same as your excavator or visa versa .it will make things easier. All you have to do is switch some hoses
That would help alot
Fantastic! This would solve so many problems a sawmill owner has. I just ordered a new Toyota Tacoma so this won't be in my arsenal....at least not this year.😁 Truly happy for you Sandy!👍
Great to hear about the Tacoma! My old 05' still fires up whenever I need it to after all these years
@@sawingwithsandy I've been waiting 30 years for a truck. Got the Off-Road model with all the bells and whistles. I totally understand your excitement.
I like a fuel shut off. I always run my small engines dry , to me it's makes them easier to start
Yeah I can see what you're saying that Ken
That thing’s a load of fun!
Absolutely Toby!
That is pretty cool
Thanks for watching!
Hi Sandy,
Nice piece of equipment.
Thanks Ben! Appreciate your support
Nice looking log trailer
Thanks Kevin!
Hi Sandy!!😀😀
Nice little skidding trailer.
You are catching on pretty quickly.
By the time you do 15 to 20 loads you will be getting pretty good with it.
Now you pretty much have everything you need to do the selective thinning that needs to be done.
Take care my friend!!😀😀💚
Logger Al
Thanks Al, I appreciate all your support and sharing your epxeirences with me
@@sawingwithsandy Any time Bother!!😀😀
Very nice machine, but around $24,000.00 is out of my price range. Be great for someone who makes money with it but I'm going to have to stick with skidding since I only move logs for my own use. Would be great to have though and I'm very happy for you getting to use it and show it. Thanks sandy keep up the great content.
Thanks Bill. yeah certainly an investment that one would have to consider the pros and cons for before getting. Good to have ya along for the videos and appreciate your support
Lots of snow. KC Don 😉
Hey Don! Yeah this snow keeps on coming it seems
Peace
Sounds like you've got a nice setup there on the loader. 4 cords woudd be a good load!
Hi Sandy. Whoa! Your camera dogged a bullet there at 23:58. 😬 Good handling.
hahah the camera was holding it's breathe for a minute
Nice rig for sure, the only problem is lack of tool storage. Like chainsaw, axe, sludge, peavey, sludge, gas, straps etc.Be aware that the stabilizer legs will bleed down over time so may need pinning or strappin up. Not a huge deal unless you drive off without checking.
Hey Grant. Thanks for that. I"ll be sure to keep an eye out.
Well, that is good looking outfiet
Thanks Del
Your proficiency is getting better!
Thanks Steven!
I think you're going good running the machine with probably not many hours on it. I ĥope you get to keep it permanently
Thanks Mike!
Thanks for coming along for the video Mark. I appreciate the support
You will be a pro in no time!
I just have to keep reminding myself to stay slow until I get better so I don't hit anything with a log
When you start loading, if the logs you are going to load are not evenly piled, just like the game of " Pick Up Sticks" go for. the highest one. In doing that you will not have the logs rolling off possibly in a dangerous position. Again great setup.
Great point! Thanks for that.
Just one more thing 😜 like the content love your video I thought that was a first-time watcher but apparently I've already subscribed you got a nice-looking view of woods up there in Canada A when you enjoy your work you're not working you're playing with the purpose
I like that Sean. Playing with a Purpose!
That is going be great for you
It sure has been great so far!
OMIGOSH, that is cool.
Thanks Rocky!
you do very well.
You did good yes you still got some learning to do with it but you can not teach experience you got to earn it by doing it yourself one of the hard part is the balance of the weight so your logs stay even when you go up but that comes with experience of judging the weight so great job keep at it and you will be next to the pro soon have a great day
Very well put!
it does look like fun
It sure is like those arcade games from way back in the day
You were smooth
Thanks Roy!
Looks like the log bunk supports have the appearance of being able to adjust spacing as there 2 fron and back fairly close together
Hi Robert, that middle axle does move forward and backwards to help with tounge weight for different tow vehicles
I ordered mine with a winch and I use it a lot. The boom is a little short- it would be great if you could get 15-16 feet reach. It doesn’t take long to get the hang of it.
Hey Richard! Yeah those winches do look like a great add on. I"m going to look into them for sure
Looks like you need an adjustable extension for the longer logs, might help stabilize the load. Just a thought.
Would be a neat idea Kent.
looks like the snow is getting pretty serious
Yeah it's a wild winter here. Snow one day, warm the next. Hard to tell what's coming next it seems Donna
Kind of makes me think of the arcade machine games where you operate a claw like grapple to pick up a toy of some kind some more expensive ones actually had useb,e things like watches pocket knife jewelry ect actually cost more to play the machine to get than what the prize was worth other than the satisfaction of actually getting out lol lol lol
hahaha I know exactly what ya mean
thats the cats sass for for sure.
Thanks for that! Sure is fun to use
getting spoiled w all this new equip. looks like fun
The new equipment is definitely something I'm thankful for. Really helping me enjoy the land I've got here and get my chores done
Wow, what a labor saver !!! I'll bet you were thinking about how much difference there is in the time it took to get those logs up on the bunks the old way?
Yeah it sure does save a bunch of effort as normally I"d have to skid them over there in less numbers and load them individually with the tractor which takes more time
I see another shed project coming one of these days to keep these new toys like the log loader and log splitter out of the elements.
I sure could use one!
Starting to sound like a big job though ;) Going to be interesting to see it in use while you are in felling and collecting mode ;)
Cheers Ray (UK)
hello Sandy. For practice, do you think turning down the rpm's so that the machine does not react so fast could work? Have good days!
I want one of those
Sure is turning out to be one of the most useful tools around here James
Looks like fun to operate and I'm sure you'll get faster just like a backhoe operator or someone who's great in a skidsteer. That said, I think I'd have saved my $25,000 and gotten a trailer with sides and a tractor grapple. The tractor, IMO, would be faster and a great grapple is in the $1500 to $2500 range. That's just my opinion though.
Thanks for watching
I bet if you throttle back your engine a bit the motions wouldn’t be so jerky. I had a factory backhoe on a old massy Ferguson tractor. It called for 540 at the PTO when the backhoe was in us. I just found it too hard to control. When I decreased to 500, the motion was much smoother with very little decrease in power or speed. Something to think about.
Think that would work real well John. Thanks for that idea!
LOL!! Have a good day.
hahah I almost forgot to be honest.
For sure Doug. Bit more control practice and things will smooth right out I figure
👍👍👍💙💛❤FEICITARI SANDY TE DESCURCI FOARTE BINE .💙💛❤👍👍👍
Can you control the speed of the boom and crapple with the controls. A great giveaway contest would be winner gets to come and operate the boom
Great question Brian, the speed can be controlled by applying more or less force on the controls.
Sticker shock. Wow
I could not believe the price!
anything in ''specialized equipment'' is expensive, made with the quality Wallenstein is known for makes it even more so.
Yeah certainly an investment
I can't help but notice how straight the rows in your woods are. Is that how all the woods in Canada are?? Most of them that I have seen in the south and midwest aren't that straight. Just things that I notice.
Hi Perry, thanks for watching. This is a red pine plantation which were planted by humans (sort of like corn crops).
How long is the trailer? Largest diameter log you have picked up to date?
trailer deck is 8'. I"ve picked up 16' logs around 12" diameter
Cool rig. It's like a giant claw machine! Do you really still have that much snow wherever you are in Central Ontario? I'm 30 mins Southwest of London and I think my grass is starting to grow...lol Dave
Yeah crazy as it seems there is still a good chunk of snow here. I could actually be out on the snowmobile today (Wednesday Feb 15)
@@sawingwithsandy That's nuts. What's the closest town to where you are? We barely had enough snow to snowmobile after the last storm a couple of weeks ago. It's all gone and was 15 degrees here today.
What a back saver….
I agree with ya there David
