I took a metal spice rack, flipped it over, and used zip ties. 15 bucks tops.

Been doing this since the late 80's. Cos there was NO other option back then. I used to get a piece of 12mm plywood, spray it matt black and superglue aluminium right angled edging on. They cost the same as a couple of packets of strings. The only difference was the cables and power supply were all on top. But easier to sort if there was a problem or wanted to swap pedals in/out. I used to carry my boards on tour in a cheap padded keyboard bag. Another band we were on tour with the guitarist had his made from old bed slaths so had the gaps like Pedal Train do. And this was 30 years ago. Why didn't he (or me!) think of making and marketing them way back then then! Oh well.... Haha.

Plywood is still a great option, 40 years later.

In EU, I use the Harley Benton powered pedalboards from Thomann. It’s like paying for the power supply and getting a free pedalboard with it for around 150€. I’m ok with that. It can even power multi effects like Line6. But DIY is a lot more rewarding of course!

My most recent pedalboard is a couple pieces of wood with some 3D printed ends

Yes, pedalboards are crazy over priced. I'm good at woodworking and was going to build my own, until I came across a $52 one on amazon with velcro, cable management and a carry case. I bought that and love it. It's been 2 years and held up GREAT! The board is called Luvay 22" x 12.6". That way I can spend my time fixing up the house which is 100% more of a priority. Otherwise, it'd be a fun experience to make a board exactly how I want it.

Completely agree ! It seems like anything related to guitars is way overpriced. It's been a year since i started guitar and i was baffled by the prices of some basics accesories. Great video ! 🙂

I have built 3 pedal boards out of wood from a pallet.. and now just have a flat piece of plywood. Why do people spend so much for this.. it is crazy people have more dollars than sense

and for the case I went to a thrift store and picked up a hard suit case from the 1960s.. I used spray adhesive for foam and then measured out and built the board to fit

@@TedSchoenling I did almost the exact same thing! $11 suitcase, 3/4” plywood, Velcro, and two cabinet handles!

Bought a $30.00 coated wire shelf, turned it over, laid it out, zip tied effects and a power supply to it. Done

Yeah, I just paid 270 for my first but last board. It has it own isolated power supply with no AC current 9n the board and all the power cords. Loop n hook. Led light bar above the board. An in and out making hook up clean and easy. And a rolling travel gig bag. Fits 12 boss pedals, rc600 looper, 3 fs-7 pedals. I was going to build my own. I have everything but supplies. But with time and supplies I'm better off just buying one. My is the vangoa brand

Pedalboards are way overpriced. I own 3. The last one, I built myself for $50. I could have done it cheaper had I used other materials.
I bought a wooden shelf from the hardware store, used one of the slanted shelves for the pedalboard, used a leg to angle it up, attached rubber feet and a couple of drawer pulls for handles on either side. I stained and lacquered the tip side and have a very nice looking wooden pedalboard.
I even have enough wood left from the shelf to build two more boards if I wanted.

It's absolutely ridiculous, I will never buy a premade pedalboard at these prices. I've just built both of mine with scrap wood, and they work just as good as these. DIY all the way.

Guitar players are the only community that will overpay for gear. Thinking that somehow paying a lot makes it better. Then 2 years later be unhappy and try to sell the same item at the same ridiculous price in the aftermarket. I am waiting for everyone to snap out of it. The market would correct itself if everyone stopped overpaying.

The way you are ranting about these pedalboards it sounds like it is coming from a point of view where you have absolutely no idea or concept of the cost of manufacturing them. Making anything at home is always cheaper if it can be done at home and if you have the right materials. I know this because I do a lot of my own work on things. I started out as a Machinist became an Engineer and had my own manufacturing business until I retired 6 years ago. Building the same thing in a professional fabrication shop, where these pedalboard fabrications are made, cost more to make them. There is something call overhead (electricity for the building, staffing, insurance for the company etc. etc.) that exist in any manufacturing business weather you make widgets or pedalboards. These costs add to the price the pedalboards and the labor is a cost also that is add in to the price. Would you build it for free. I don't think so. I think you need a lot more education as to what goes into making these boards before you complain about how much these company's need to charge for their products.

JHS just had to explain how business works, to a YT channel, that complained about pedal cost, based on how cheap all the components are. They didn’t consider the R&D, manufacturing process, staff labor, insurance, utilities, powder coating, etc. Not to mention business-to-business sales. It all adds up, regardless of how painful it is for the consumer’s wallet.

Dude the way you're talking it is obvious you've never worked a job where stuff is manufactured. The people that make this stuff have to be paid . Just because there's not much material there they is still skill and time involved in putting that stuff together. Maybe you should even go back to school and learn how economics and supply and demand actually works.
And then there's people who want to save up their money and get something nice and not have a homemade eyesore. And then there's some people who have no carpentry skills whatsoever .
Then you got eBay and Temu. There's tons of Chinese boards out there that are cheap. Actually cheaper to buy one of those than make your own.
You might want to do a little more research before you start crying on on TH-cam, but hey you can be that guy at the club with all of the homemade stuff that takes you a half an hour to set up your gear. While everybody in the club waits on you and then you suck anyway at your music. We all have seen your kind a million times over.
If you can't afford a 50 or $100 pedal board, maybe you should find a different hobby, like sitting on the porch and watching the clouds that won't cost you anything. I bet you have no problem dropping two or 300 bucks on some sneakers though.🤨
