When I worked the Oscars, Don had to be helped out of his limousine and placed in a wheelchair...once in his chair, he blurted out, "World War II, US Navy, who knew? " Cracked me up.

Today’s roasts don’t ever actually zing anybody. Each quasi-celebrity tells one joke to the Roastee then one joke to each of the other Roasters and each joke is barely a hit. They rarely use actual comedians too. Yep, have to agree. When Comedy Central got ahold of the Roast platform they made G rated jokes a strict policy.

True talent and humor right here... And, didn't have to talk like they were in a gutter like the one's today that are mostly trailer park trash.

My bed time was 9:00, I used to sneak out, and hide behind my Dads recliner, just to watch the Dean Martin Roasts, I think there was one every month or so... Now that I’m in my 50’s, the jokes make a lot more sense... lol!

One summer, they did Dean Martin Roasts as a weekly filler until the new shows debuted in September.

Those were great days for the entertainment industry! What has happened with today’s performers?? Most are crude, and without talent!

Rich Little made these Roasts even more funnier when he got up. These were the good days of television.

I have very little respect for current USA entertainment/Hollywood product. However, this era must have been like the High Summer of American Showbiz! This generation of Americans were exceptionally talented. From Frank and the Rat Pack through John Wayne, Johnny Carson, Hollywood Stars like Borgnine, Jimmy Stewart and Marilyn, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon to the amazing talents of Dean And Jerry.....I doubt if it will ever be repeated. Here in the UK we missed the Golden Age of American entertainment - we had the BBC and the government controlled, stiff-upper lip, post war austerity, budget stuff. There were some gems but they were very low-key and strictly Victorian values!
