I love, love LOVE that you don't use gelatin. Gelatin is the main reason why I never made a no-bake fruit pie. And that pie crust is to die for. When I can find nice strawberries (they're usually half green), I'm definitely gonna make this pie...and maybe other fruits now that I know how. Thank you so much.
sekereterra -I feel the same way! That is why I have never made a strawberry pie. Until now nothing has looked good enough... ahhhh @preppykitchen once again you have made me drool... 🤦🏼♀️ lol
I was going to comment this too!! When I saw the thumbnail I thought he was going to use gelatin, and I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't! Gelatin has just such a disgusting texture to it, and it always stinks when I find a seemingly delicious recipe only to find that they used gelatin.
OMG I hate feeling cornstarch too! I was the only one in my baking school who would complain about touching it, and to this day it makes my skin crawl. I thought I was just being dramatic, so I'm glad someone else agrees with me.
I have made this pie every summer since you first posted this and it has been a hit every summer. I swapped out the cornstarch for tapioca starch (my mom hates pies made with cornstarch) and it's still bomb! Can't wait to make it again this summer!
Just made this for Midsummer in Sweden. Everything that I made from your recipes have come out really really tasty. Everyone alway loves loves my deserts. Thank you.
I’ve tried so many strawberry pie recipes in the past and have always been disappointed. I didn’t think this one was going to be it UNTIL you told us that the lemon zest and juice can be omitted. This will be made this week. Thank you.
I saw this video and was salivating over this pie. After a week I gave in, went to the market, got the strawberries and made it. Best decision ever!!!! Make this pie, you won't regret it!
I made this tonight for Saturday. You know what is good.. 1/2 tablespoon of lemon zest mixed with the strawberry concoction. Sooo good! I kind of goofed and didn't keep the pan for the final step. So, I used fresh strawberry jam with lemon zest. Thank you for the recipe!
This recipe delivers! I was super short on time so I used a Marie Calendars deep dish pie crust and a can of Reddi Whip- Beyond delicious. Gonna do it again when I have the time to do the crust and whipped cream!
@ 1:45 "Do you LOVE how i said zest the lemon before cutting it and then i proceeded to not use my zested lemon? ..." (hee, hee.... so good!!!) Yes, it is okay. LOVE IT.
I love this recipe for the filling! I hope you don't mind I did add a small amount of black pepper and it was good. Thank you so much for sharing your love and passion.
Another absolutely perfect pie for me to try. I use the iSi cream whipper canister system to always have whipped cream on hand all the time (until the expiry date shown on the carton anyway). I bought a large supply of charger cartridges, so always have supplies on hand. I love that you use butter and prime ingredients that make each dish heavenly. People used to 'butter shame' me when most of the world switched to that awful margarine (even dieticians and doctors tried to get me to use marg.). Now they have been updated and butter is fine. Yippee.
IT was great cooking with your instructions. I baked my first pie and it was strawberry pie. Amazing. You motivated me to start cooking and baking!!! Thanks a lot!!!
The addition of lemon zest & juice is going to make my already loved strawberry pie, even better. Thank you! *update- I made this for Easter. The eggwash on the crust definitely works. The addition of the lemon was perfect & everyone loved it. Thank you, Sir!
John, I would really like to see you make brioche bread. I’ve seen lots of different recipes, but I know your recipes always come out awesome and delicious.
The recipe I have made for many, many years is very much like yours. However, before I put the strawberries in the pie shell I spread a thin layer of cream cheese (4oz). It also provides a barrier between the berries and the pie shell. This is my favorite pie!
I always do my shipped cream by hand because I make it in small batches. other wise it's all my daughter would eat. I may do this with an Orange zest and juice instead because that is what I have on hand today. I love getting strawberries from the pick your own farms near by. We get California strawberries in the stores but they have to be picked so young that they are scarcely flavoured. I'm sure in California where they can ripen in the fields until they hit peek flavor they are better but I love Strawberries grown in Texas sunshine. They have a slightly sour pucker to them, the same with Blueberries. I highly recommend where ever you are going fruit picking in season and tasting the difference between the fruit that is shipped and the fruit that is left to ripen in the soil and sunshine where you live. the difference is amazing!! makes for richer brighter deeper flavors in your baking.
Thank you so much! This was so helpful for my 4th of July Strawberry Pie! I added blueberries on top of the whipped cream to make it red, white, and blue. 🤓🇺🇲🎆🍓
This looks amazing. I bought 3# of strawberries today at Publix, because they were on sale. And i was looking for a recipe that I could use for them. I am giving this a try tomorrow, and I cannot wait!
THANK YOU for this recipe and tips. I'm making a strawberry lemon Charlotte Russe this weekend and wanted layer of filling just like this. My dilemma was, once you taste strawberries in France this time of year, you are ruined for American strawberries forever for exactly the reason you mention. Wish me luck on my purchase. Hopefully I won't need the extra sugar. You're a god, John. Thank you.
I just came across his videos today and i am absolutely obsessed 😍 I love how the videos are so relaxed and chirpy ♥️♥️ It really feels like i’m having a conversation with him
I have been watching your channel for the past hour and a half. Omg. I cannot wait to bake today. I'm getting ready for a BBQ for the 4th. Going to be making this today. I cannot wait. Love your channel!!
Looks so yummy. I like the crust made with some almond powder. I love to make the "tarte aux fraises" with a vanilla custard before placing the strawberries, but I'll try this way.
What a beautiful strawberry pie!! I bet if my Grandma was still around, she would have been tickled to have someone bake this for her!! ❤️ My mom and Aunts plant strawberries on her grave every year. 🍓❤️ (No, they don't pick and eat them, lol, strawberries were just one of her favorite berries is all.)
Thanks john! This turned out really well :) All those tricks for the blind bake ended up giving me a perfect shell. I actually used loose change as pie weights, which was okay because the foil gave protection from any unwanted contamination... Not by choice, I just didnt have any rice or beans!
I watched your video, and then, I ordered all the ingredients through Instacart! I’m making strawberry pie!! Thank for the tasty recipe!! And it looks easy!
Did you find the half size fresh strawberries too large? Or perfect? I am thinking of making this for my dad for fathers day. But feel like maybe slicing the fresh strawberries would be easier to eat?
JOHNNY, i made a fresh peach pie 2 yrs ago for 4th of July and I am not ashamed to announce this publicly, i had made it for the 4th of July and "tasted" the pie, made another one and then another....I ate one peach pie by myself for my combined breakfast lunch dinner one meal one fork one pie and then made two more pies and after dinner on the 4th I hid one of the pies in the back of the refrigerator and served the one, which i also served to myself even though i ate an entire pie the day before and had one hidden in the refrigerator...i am never so nuts ...i am sharing everything i have always my home is always hosting parties and people who need help and we even rescue rehabilitate and rehome critters animals birds etc. But when it comes to pies....well...im a covert pie hoarding selfish b! I have to share this story with you. My grandmother came over on a ship in 1901, the age of 7. By the 2o's. She had already 9 children. Owned a restaurant in lincoln, ne. During great depression. Late 20's early 30's. They lived above restaurant. My aunt was told to zest 5 and squeeze 4. My aunt was very young. My aunt took the zest off of 5. And squeezed a different 4. A total of 9.. they were very poor.. their nightly meal depended on scraps of customers and leftovers... as punishment. She was to get no scrap lemon pie that night. True story.. thank you for sharing.
