As a game who gave the middle finger to Gen 4 Pokémon, FUCK NO I'm not getting this game. Would've LOVED to see origins to Pokémon like Regigigas which the game fails. It even fails to bring the Distortion World or heck any other areas that the OG gen 4 games introduced.
This game has the skeleton of a game that all Pokémon fans have been waiting for. The meat on the bones is a bit bare, but GameFreak is on the right track. All they have to do next is keep this gameplay model, but thrust it into a modernized Pokémon world. I've been playing this game all day, and I'm IN LOVE with the gameplay mechanics, but the world itself is a little bland. If they hired some awesome writers and designed a world full of life around this kind of gameplay... holy cow. Heck, even if they remade an older game with this engine, it would blow minds. Can anyone imagine exploring Lumiose City with the level of detail this game's engine can provide? Minds would be blown.
Yeah I’m excited for the future. Right now though I still feel like the story is lacking to grab my interest and of course the graphics do have a downside but the game mechanics so far I love. All day I have nonstop been playing this game.
@John Smith completely get your point then why so little change when you are the biggest media franchise right? The thing is that it works both ways meaning they indeed are the biggest media franchise and they have been going for 25 years now but theyve always done the “same” game in theory just reskinned so making a game like this, as little of a step as it is, is the biggest risk theyve ever taken! Why fix something if it isnt broken? When the entirety of your future games depends on a “pivot” moment in the style of your games, a company this big probably has to ease into it Think of it this way, its like if call of duty decided next year to make. 3rd person shooter instead of a first. They probably wouldnt change much else they would test it out to see how its received first before making all their new games in third instead of first and same goes for this game! Its like testing the waters for future games because it could’ve completely flopped too
Hopefully nintendo stops trying to make gimmick consoles and just makes a normal powerful console to rival xbox and playstation, then make an actually fully open world pokemon game with good graphics, also only being able to ride like 5 pokemon is lame af
It's hard to fathom why GameFreak pursued such a textured environment in the first place when the characters and pokemon look the way they do. They clearly struggled balancing performance, level-of-detail on the textures, and pop-in. Especially with the esthetic of the map, illustrations &c., even a cel shaded brushwork style with polygons as basic as _Okami_ from 2006 would have looked gorgeous. It looks like their team pursued two different esthetics, each halfway.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who used Okami as an example for what they could have done. Honestly Pokemon is just trying to keep up with how much revenue they gross as they have surpassed even Disney in that field. So now Nintendo has no choice but to rush out games every year. It's really sad.
They couldve asked help from LEVEL 5 creators of NI NO KUNI GAMES.. with the art style... but I get it theyre afraid of drastic changes... too much change can be controversial...
Most confusing to me is why exactly they still try to hit that 1080p resolution no matter the cost. Sure, I'm all for 1080, but I do think 900p would already be fine if they would have been able to implement at least some kind of antialiasing in return, and the rest would also probably have benefited from it. As far as I know, none of the truly graphically impressive games on Switch run at 1080, yet Gamefreak still seems to think that's the goal they HAVE to pursue.
@@erickreyes7902 Too little change can also be controversial as evident from everyone complaint about how bad the game looks. I just wish they'd get the help they desperately need.
@@breakpoint43 I still think this is the step to the right direction... but I wish they were given more time.. releasing a game everyear is actually tiresome... if they were given 4 or 5 years... this game could be on par with BOTW... but yeah... some bosses could be a JACKASS.. and only thinks about the foundation of the company..
This game has a very "Beta" feel to it, like its a concept game but not quite there yet. Dont get me wrong the game is definitly fun as is, but definitley feel like there could of been a lot more to it and that this is kind of in a testing phase to see how the fans would like it
Yeah I'm liking the game but it definitely has an Early Access steam game vibe to it at times lol I still rate it 7/10 which I consider to be good and worth a buy
Given the fact that Pokémon is one of the biggest franchises of all time, and that BOTW came out half a decade ago, the visuals of this game are genuinely unacceptable. Glad everything else is good though.
@@cjschneidt9089 Yeah that just really isn't a valid excuse in light of BOTW, just to cherry pick the most obvious example. As far as what Pokémon has or hasn't been in the past, it's not an excuse to remain that way forever. I'd be lying if I said Legends Arceus wasn't a step in the right direction, but it ain't there yet.
BotW took five plus years to develop. I doubt Arceus had anywhere near that time. There’s a reason why Pokémon is the biggest franchises ever. It’s because there is a constant stream of strictly regimented multimedia content and merchandizing. If it took five years to make a new Pokémon game or if they delayed it (and by extension all of the other things like anime and merchandizing that’s tied up in it), then it probably wouldn’t be the biggest franchise ever.
@@Moemoemono Bandai is mostly a publisher. Nothing would have changed about this game with bandai namco alone (or they would end up being more like the naruto/onepiece/tekken games). They already collabed on Pokken. You're thinking of FromSoftware (dark souls, eldenring, etc). They are the ones who would have done a better job.
Given all the cut stuff that was found in that Sword and Shield beta that was leaked a year ago, it’s likely that they DID want to go all out for this game, but executive decisions or a limited timeframe stopped them.
Visually looks like one of those cheap early access survival games the pop up like mushrooms on Steam on a daily basis, I would not complain normally about this but Pokemon is the most lucrative IP in human history and this game was supposed to be an event, the big jump (or an update needed for 10 years ) of the franchise since its inception 25 years ago and it still feels outdated for modern game standards. I am more hopefull for sequels that might come from this game than this first installment.
POkemon was never known for stunning visuals, so its par for the course, but I agree it could be better. At least a bit more varied, looking at you trees.
@@witchy90210 when its somewhat a popular title as like mario and legends of zelda id expect more for a new unique experience. ofc gameplay is important but id like if this game maybe took more time
Honestly Ark looked and played 100 times better in its early access compared to Legends and I’m several hours into the game and have seen and experienced things that I never once saw in the early days of Ark on steam. Mind you Ark is not only a survival game but a creature collecter as well with Dinosaurs. I literally stared at a Rapidash from far away, it’s flame moved between 5-10 frames a minute. I’ve never seen bad frame rate like that staring at a dino in Ark. The world is fuller and you can actually swim and not drown the instant your feet stop touching the ground, you can jump too and go first or third person without holding a button. These are all things survival games have. Even a game like Monster hunter which they took alot of inspiration from.
This game probably has one of the cheapest and empty looking worlds I've ever seen in a big title game. I cannot understand why seemingly no effort has been put into the layout of anything... Nor are there any interesting landmarks and the buildings are not even Integrated with the landscape .. nothin. just a big flat terrain with a few hills and trees scattered about. I'm a game dev myself and have developed for switch before so I know how limited the hardware is... But the absolute lack of care and love in this world design is frustrating to look at. There is no excuse for the game to look like a low budget indie game.
@@mailman2362 Indeed. I haven't played monster hunter, but it's obvious that many areas have been hand crafted to give a sense of location and actually attempts to tell a story, which is the exact opposite of what Arceus has going on.
@@ingenanimation I think it is possible to give an honest review based on a copy provided by the publisher. Honestly, I think the major issue with this title, and quite honestly, several previous pokemon titles, is that people are blinded by their love for the franchise as a whole. Some people are simply way to forgiving when it comes to brands they feel familiar with, aslong as there are pokemon in the game and something remotely new is going on, people will go wild. I don't say that to be dismissive towards those people but it is sadly the case.
I wanted to like this game so much but it is a game that needed way more time in the oven and in the hands of a healthier studio then gamefreak or pokemon company for their horrible decisions the past decade alone
genuinely surprised that it still has the visual quality of a 20€ indie game on steam. Like, imho, it looks genuinenly drab and sad. But all these gameplay choices are almost amazing enough to make up for it and make me wanna play it. Cool review, good showcase, thanks 👍
The game was probably made in like 2 years what did you expect. The first Year is pretty much planning actually designing the games the characters and the story. Then they actually start making the actual game and cut out any of the ideas they could not get done in that time frame. Problem is to make a botw you need a lot of people and a lot of time you need like half a decade to make the game. I think if pokemon went back to sprites and did a 2d open world game it would work much better for them it takes way less time and resources to make a 2d game compared to a 3d one.
@@cosmicsvids I'm mainly surprised that they still refuse to give devs any meaningful time, and also surprised that after everything that was Lets Go and SwSh, they still apparantly havent figured out how to properly use that engine. Yk, workflow and all that, seems to still be shaly judging by how bad this game looks and runs
@@cosmicsvids Also, I dont even think it would be needed to make "BOTW but with pokemon" This game looks like they were going for something, but didnt have the time to finish it. So im also surprised that they: a) Were so uncoordinated that the mapping, arts and game design departments all had diffrrent ideas of what the end product was meant to be, or b) Didnt make a game that fits a scope of 2yrs, and instead tried making something that woulda taken at least 3 to make.
Agree, but I think that might be more about the Switches limitations rather than GameFreaks development. You ever have too many flowers in one spot while playing Animal Crossing? The frame rate dips to what looks like 10 fps at times. The game only runs at a native 30 fps, and it's not very graphically demanding, but the Switch still struggles with it.
@@bluemidnight5926 True, but that has to do with optimization and other things. Look at the gamecube and ps2 era, there were still stunning games around, and Im confident that if the devs were respected, then they could optimize the switch even better. For example the colour scheme is just sad. The way the camera scrolls over unfinished areas with pride. And I doubt they sacrificed content in order to "preserve performance".
it looks ok but not worth my money. I feel like there's a lot of things they could've done better. Hoping they'll make something like this but better in the future since the idea is great.
Yeah now thinking about it. This really does feel like a test game for $60.00. I have mixed feelings about this game but I kinda expected this before buying it so hmm.
@@graycat7704 If your a completionist it'd worth the $60 if your only going to play the champaign it's not worth it. The fact you have to research pokemon to complete the pokedex and there are many ways you can do that to reach that max research level. If that sounds fun to you it's worth it if your not here for the grind and just the main and post game journey your looking at about a 10-18 hour game
i like the game and think they did a good job overall but for some reason the graphics feel weird like if it wasn’t done properly idk what it is exactly but the colors look faded and texture aren’t as good as i expected it to be.
i can tell you whats going on: Gamefreak doesn´t give two shits about anyone who buys their darn games so they don´t even try to make this game look good cause evry fool buys their games so why even try?? it´s easy money
The lighting and shading on materials is completely off, doesn’t match the time of day or where the sun is. the tree assets are ugly as hell and don’t blend with the terrain (they’re just plopped on with no blending. The ground is completely flat with horrid blurry textures, no micro detail, tree branches, pebbles, nothing. Bro, it’s everything.
I'll just say this, my level 20 Dewott has to spend 2 turns trying to defeat a level 2 Drifloon using an effective move. Maybe i'm wrong, but I think that's kinda weird.
@@TheFreestylebeast I'm glad i'm not the only one experiencing that sort of bullshit too. I'll be fighting something thats 5+ levels under my pokemon and yet it takes off a chunk of its health without using a super effective or strong move. It's very de-motivating and makes me have to grind in fear that i won't be strong enough for the next battle
@@lovedella6483 yeah no doubt bro it’s been getting me mad since last night 😂 regular wild Pokémon hit your high level ones for an ass with basic attacks. Don’t get me started on stronger moves smh. Makes you really have to craft a lot of potions and revives. I was in one of those shadow zones and my whole team got destroyed. Caught an umbreon tho so it was worth it
Majority of the reviews I’ve seen constantly talk about how poor a lot of the aspects of the game are while giving it a 8-9/10. Ridiculous. For the price this looks like a 5-6/10
Now, I'm not too big on Pokémon, but have been hearing praise about Legends, I wish to see more before I make my decision. I kinda fear collecting the Pokémon may get repetitive, especially when I want to invest into the story more. This game looks like it appeals more to completionists, but at the same time, welcoming to newcomers. Hopefully, this would be a good point for Pokémon to continue to evolve going forward. Those are my two cents.
@@CurtTheHero it’s way better than any Pokémon in the last decade the world is a little bland and boring tho it’s definitely fun and a step in the right direction! On the bad side pop in is horrible! The sky is beautiful
@@CurtTheHero if they can flush out the world better in the next game and make exploring and finding cool secrets better with a decent story and better graphics it would be perfect!
The game kinda makes me think of the mid 90s, when it comes to the graphics. Back when 3D only just got started. While it was technically a massive improvement from 2D, it looked worse, because we didn't have the technology yet. Same thing here, except GameFreak just didn't want to spend the time and money for the technology. They could get away with that with their more simple-looking installments, but a 3D open world game? It looks like something that was made nearly 20 years ago. And that just isn't excusable for a company that has made a hundred billion bucks to date. The production costs for any Pokemon game is ridiculously low, compared to how many games they sell, partly due to the extremely small workforce they employ. They could easily make a game actually worth the profit, but they never will as long as people keep buying the physical equivalent of the word *mediocre*.
The game is trash, the graphics are trash, and whoever is playing this past the age of 20 is wasting their time when they could be playing Diamond or Pearl more lol
I have it and I gotta say... graphics are a tremendous disaster and they really fucked up the opportunity to make one of the best games of the year, but with all that said, the game is really funny and it reaches the goal that any videogame should reach and that's it to be fun and enjoyable (with exceptions of games that intent to be hard on purpose and bla bla) 7/10 imo but still a fun game taking apart all the downsides.
@@AltairKennedy Did you even play the game? Freaking idiot. I would say it's the best game gamefreak has released in a long time. While i do think NIntendo is a cash grab, playing it on an emulator on 4k is amazing. Looks great, plays even better than the switch.
i think the trees look amazing in this game, way better then most mainline games and wayyy better the SWSH, but yeah they couldve added some small sites of interest around
Dude I think they just had a team of coomers. Literally the only things that were well designed are female characters. Tells you where their priority was.
@Clayton They don't need to be realistic but they don't have to be straight out trash tier neither. Think Skyrim, a 10+ yo game that is also on the switch...

But lets go doesnt allow you to do half of the things this game does. Lets go has the same system pokemon has always used since they started making games. Who cares about riding pokemon? I want to play a good game not ride around on a pokemon as if thats the reason why I bought a pokemon game in the first place🤷🏾♂️. If you bought lets go just to ride on pokemon then kudos to you. But its not that big of a deal.
Mother of god, I have never played such a horrifyingly tedious game. When the game starts, it's an hour of pure, slow af tutorial torture. It feels like the tutorial never fucking ends. Talk, get a job, be guided there by big fucking arrows, talk again, travel back, then talk, get a job, be guided there, talk again, travel back ... Sitting at the Restaurant after every day and being subjected to braindead dialogue is reatarded. The fact that there is almost zero sound in this game makes it even more tedious. Except for the handful of tunes that annoy the living hell out of you when you hear them start for the 42nd time. What a terrible gaming experience.
They are going in the right direction, and maybe it is even fun to play, but I just refuse to buy a game that looks this shit while it's from a company that has infinite money. I feel like they always give minimum effort for their games. Never bought a Pokemon game since black and white, and I won't change that until they put work and love in their games.
You missed out on two of the best in series (B2/W2, which are direct sequels with new story and locations rather than enhanced additions), but I'd say you made a good call on passing on the rest. 6th gen was the most money I've ever wasted on video games.
If they didn't put work and love into their games Legends wouldn't even exist, it wouldn't make any sense to exist. So why make a game that requires more work than any other Pokemon game to date. Why in the hell would you make a vastly different Pokemon game and not just continue the 8 gym formula if you don't want to work hard.
@@eddyland1557 Evidently they weren't working hard, otherwise the game wouldn't look like shit compared to every other Nintendo published game on the same console (including other Pokemon titles). So it literally becomes a Gear Grind. Doing at least 60 identikit blue glowing box-puzzles just to get the weapon the amazing Link to the past gave Me back in 1996 when I first played that on the SNES. Sorry but aside from the amazing Zora region (a hint of what was to come but did they rush it or run out of ideas?!), Breath1 just didn't give me that special 'Zelda' experience. If it did for you - that's good for you I guess. I found Skyward Sword, Wind Waker and even Twilight which I sort of dislike far more enjoyable overall experiences than Breath1. I will say however that Breath2 _does_ look promising with at least _some_ enemy variety making it being to resemble a Zelda game. Baby steps but I hope Breath2 can at least give Us 2 dungeons this time instead of 0. For now by the trailers alone, it looks much more interesting, darker and brooding than Breath1. Have to disagree here. It isn't really letting you do much of anything until you beat the campaign. You get bogged down by cutscene after cutscene. The crafting is pretty bad as well since it just pads the gametime out not really adding anything useful. Same for the Strong and Agile attack style. It doesn't make much of a difference and I found Strong type moves doing like 1/3 of the enemies hp while their non stab regular moves 2 shots.
Agree about the battle, I think they need a pp meter and the power of each move will determine how much it uses whereas you can use multiple moves per turn depending on the amount of power it uses and the amount of pp the pokemon has, where if your speed doubles your opponent, you can attack twice before they go once..yk, sumn more exciting..
I have it said multiple times and I'll say it again, no one NO ONE would complain if game freak would just take more time with their games . I'm sure if the Pokémon company wouldn't put them under so much pressure , so that we maybe get a new game only after 2-3 years , they would be the masterpieces we remember them for . I think this game truly shows what Pokémon could be if given the right time and effort.

Even as a pokemon fan this game it's just shit. The texture are terrible, the pokemon are made of plastic and only walk, not interacting with the world :Zubat sleeping upside down of the trees, starly trying to catch wurmple, onix eating rocks, beautiflies eating nectar from flowers, nothing they are only thrown randomly on an open map (this game it's not even an open world, making it even worse) The rocks are visibly made of polygons, the houses are all the same with even the same objects inside them, the npc are all still and do no action, besides telling you a random sentence, they don't have a real routine, they are not "alive ", the characters all have the same facial animations, the wheat it's so yellow that it burns your eyes but above all THE MUD , it's so horrible that only if you play it you can understand how bad it is, it looks like a mixture of caramel and shit all in very low resolution. The expressions of the characters are all the same with minimal changes and I could probably go on forever if I wanted to. The story itself is very banal, there are too many dialogues which among other things are even without dubbing, which is indecent in 2022. This game is simply unjustifiable, if it wasn't Pokemon everyone would have killed it but obviously since everyone is defending it. I seriously hope people realize the crap this game does and finally give Gamefreak a big slap in the face to wake up and do something better. But no, we have this shit sold among other things at the price of 60 euros, when there are many indie games, made with far fewer people and with far fewer funds that have much better graphics and more interesting game mechanics Think if we had a Pokemon game with worldbuilding and Zelda graphics, it would have been a dream, but pokefans want to cover their eyes and instead of imagining the amazing game we could have, they settle for this pre-alpha of something unfinished
It doesn’t look like it is worth the money. Seems it was baked in the oven for only 30-40% of the time it should have been. Very disappointing but expected for a Pokémon game.
I’m excited to play my copy next week, but I am tempering my expectations. This definitely looks like a groundwork’s test more than the next leap forward. I’ve wanted to like Pokémon so much as an adult, but I can’t get longer than about 5 or six hours into a game.
It's honestly my least favourite Pokémon I've played enemy Pokémon hitting multiple times a turn easily taking me down when I'm like 20 levels ahead nah man
They are, or will be rather. Probably just waiting on a Pokemon Home update. Their abilities have already been leaked too if you want to see what they'll be in the main games
Kinda sad that the community would be okay with this visuals, yes the gameplay is pretty fun and addictive (played for 12 hrs now) but could we all atleast agree that the visuals and constant pop ups are not up to standard?
I sincerely think that If Pokémon made a game kinda like Monster Hunter. It would absolutely blow up. I just don’t understand why they just stick with this sense of “not so dangerous wild animal” that can be caught by throwing berry’s at it. I wish they just made it a little more serious, making pokemons the monsters they really would be in a world. Making the pokemons much larger in size, more detailed and even more aggressive depending on the Pokémon and maybe even harder would absolutely make the game much more fun
Looks old or like a proof of concept, different art style would have been better. I really dislike that there is no multiplayer option.. I want to be able to battle my friends while I am enjoying the experience. Hopefully Switch 2 is much more powerful and they can do more. Can't help but feel if the game had the artists and talent from EA or Ubisoft, it would look brilliant (no pun intended). In any case, I hope they build on this groundwork to make something better in a sequel.
Cool that you enjoyed it (as well as others) to me it wasnt all that (had to force myself to keep going).. I just hope that the future game's will be better (not just graphic wise)
i feel like for my tastes, the barren world isn't as much of a downside when each different wild pokemon is more unique and expressive than the ones any other GF title. plus the gameplay loop seems right up my alley. i only hope we get more multiplayer elements in the future. i'd love to battle my friends within this new turn system and it sucks that the only real element of multiplayer is retrieving lost items of one another
This is not a review, all he did was explain how the game works, there was very little opinion. Also his voice goes from high to low, to the point where I can’t hear what he’s saying. I turned up my volume all the way up and still couldn’t understand him at times.
It definitely made some changes that are good, and the gameplay loops keeps me playing for hours. But it still has a ton of flaws and needs improvements.
-poor graphics for the Switch -no voice acting -one town -not all Pokemon in the game -boss fights involve the player dodging and throwing food blocks at the boss -no gyms Well glad i waited for the reviews and gameplay 😒
i do hope this becomes a side series with like going to the past in other regions or they make a modern version with a completely new legendary or some other thing. and i hope they also improve the art style to make the game look better and maybe some voice acting in some parts for special cutscenes maybe
From what I was told from friend streamers who were gifted a copy to review and have completed it, it is a very subpar attempt at a breath of the wild clone with little to no open world aspects. The game forces you into situations rather than allowing the player to explore on their own and make decisions. Catch a Pokémon, return to town and get an order to catch the next Pokémon, rinse and repeat. There are little to no trainer battles, and battling as a whole has been Nuked. The new Pokémon designs are god awful. This is a $60 per copy, cash grab attempt by the Pokémon company to make money and the only addition is over-world shinys. Something they have had the data to models to include in both S&S and BDSP. If you want to waste $60 to run around throwing pokeballs with no purpose than enjoy If you play the game for the battling and competitive aspects then it is a hard pass. Moves like quick attack have the same priority rate as bite….. Need I say more
The standard is so low that a loading time is "impressive" which it should be the standard and nothing to be praised for a 2022 game standard. This whole game is a dumpster fire.
When a game by Nintendo that came out in 2017 looks better then a new game in 2022 you know something is wrong. Is it fair to compare Legend of Zelda to Pokemon? Since Legends decided to be "open world survivor spin on the Pokemon" then yes, it's fair. Not worth the money, especially since next gen is being released so soon. Then again there is a question if next gen is being rushed now too, just like Legends was
The whole point of pokemon has always been to collect them and battle against other trainers. Without the battling this game just seems pointless to me.
Exactly. No Gyms, very few npc's to battle. Like, thats 80% of the game gone. This is like, just focusing on catching them all. I didnt even do that on the past pokemon games. Lol.
I’m thinking if they keep the catching system with gyms, add more space between towns and not make invisible walls that keep the player on the tracks, with national dex, and with multiplayer battles, I’m thinking we could look at a really good Pokémon game
@@Safiel44 Catching them has never been so much fun though. With the existence of alpha pokemons and other pokemons it's a lot more fun than doing the same old bs we have been doing for the past 25 years. 8 gyms and elite 4 crap.
I love how everyone in the comments is shitting on the game when im sitting here, having known the game wouldnt be up to par the moment it was announced.
I think the biggest innovation in this game involves the pokemon learnset. The fact that moves are not ever forgotten, but simply "equipped", is a massive improvement over the conventional model. On the other hand, the Agile/Strong style mechanic I've never used. I think it may have been more beneficial if there were more trainer vs. trainer battles, but in the wild there are few opportunities where it's helpful. While I love the simplicity of swapping out pokemon or using an item on the "R" button, the controls are lacking some notable qualtify of life improvements. I find myself routinely pressing the "A" button when in battle after switching to Pokeballs to throw it, instead of pressing the indended "R" button. Also, if a Pokemon faints in battle, it would be great if it auto-switched to the next healthy Pokemon in the roster (as would happen in prior games). Similarly, if I initiate a battle with a wild pokemon, but switch to pokeballs to finish said battle, it would be great if it auto-reverted to pokemon for the "R" button, as I either successfully caught the pokemon, or it ran away and I want to initiate another battle. Finally, having to click through a prompt each time I sort my inventory (as opposed to just a passive message) is annoying. I know these are nitpicky, but definitely take me out of the immersion in their present state. Also related to controls, it would be ideal if we could switch up which button is used for "crouch" and "run", for example. BOTW has me too well trained, it would seem, haha. On the topic of BOTW, the traversing of this world is... painful. The speed of climbing even the slightest incline is SO slow. I also feel like I shouldn't just immediately drown if I fall into 5 ft of water (or at least I should be able to climb out?) And what the heck is with the "falling" off of small hills? Do I have a built in squirrel suit I can't see? Whats with the gliding? The crafting is an excellent mechanic, but I find that the medicinal herbs are not near abundant enough based on the amount of damage my team seems to incur. Is it just me or do hits from low-level pokemon seem to do a lot more damage than expected?
This game with BOTW quality and care would have shuck the foundation of the Pokémon franchise. It’s not horrendous but it saddens me to think what it could have been.
I kind of wish they would of just been more original then copying botw. What made pokemon so great when it first came out was how unquie it was compared to other games. Now they just want to throw that all away and copy botw instead of improving the existing formula and putting that into open world. Mario didn't copy botw and mario odyssey was a great game.
@@cosmicsvids i agree, I’m not necessarily talking about the mechanics of botw though. I just mean that this game could have been awesome if it had the same amount effort put into it.
This game is just unacceptable from literally the highest grossing franchise in existance. It looks like some 12 year olds first unity project, there are literal phone games that look better and it's not just the graphics, the open world might be the worst I've ever seen
I’m happy they’re focusing on catching Pokémon and getting shiney and Alfa’s. Battles are cool and all but it was boring . I would always destroy every gym cause I would make sure to have my Pokémon strong and at a high level. That to me got repetitive . But in this game there’s so much to do ! I don’t see how one can get bored lol I’m excited for what’s to come . They’re on the right path.
First reviewer I've seen to actually mention the music. Bothers me so much that so many reviewers feel like music isn't worth mentioning, it's a big part of gaming for me.
Thanks for the review. 👍 Also, I never pay attention to giveaways but I want to try out this Pokemon game but not pay for a Switch 🤣 here’s to ‘hoping’! 😆
Anyone else have glitchy buggy moments in the graphics. Like a bidoof will be staring at me and then the cute little guy will get blurry all of a sudden.
I think that if they changed a few things, this would actually be a game I'd pick up. I'm not too sure if I'm going to, maybe if I have a bit of extra money I will, but without multiplayer (one of my favorite aspects of pokemon games) battles, I'm not sure if I really wanna pay 60$ for this. If it were 40$ (I get why it's 60$, it's clear they put lots of work into this game) it would be a 100% yes, but I just don't know right now.
I hope nintendo just fire most of game freak's higher ups and get their main developer teams to make the next big pokemon game. Gamefreak gotta be burried for real.
What do you think of Pokemon Legends Arceus and is this one of few games you will pick up on the Switch before Breath of the Wild 2 is out?
Yeah: got it as a post Christmas gift from my Grandma
As a game who gave the middle finger to Gen 4 Pokémon, FUCK NO I'm not getting this game. Would've LOVED to see origins to Pokémon like Regigigas which the game fails. It even fails to bring the Distortion World or heck any other areas that the OG gen 4 games introduced.
This and Kirby are the only games for switch that I am super excited about between now and Breath of the Wild sequel.
Yes. Downloading it now! 😊
Just bought it. Trying it out. Chose Rowlet cause I skipped gen 7
Ok but like, can they take more than one step in the right direction before releasing a game? It's so absurd that we're praising the bare minimum.
Yeah I’m excited for the future. Right now though I still feel like the story is lacking to grab my interest and of course the graphics do have a downside but the game mechanics so far I love. All day I have nonstop been playing this game.
GF is known to discard the good thing they do in their old games. So expect them to go back to the older ways in next game
When the entirety of your future games depends on a “pivot” moment in the style of your games, a company this big probably has to ease into it
Think of it this way, its like if call of duty decided next year to make.
Dont get me wrong the game is definitly fun as is, but definitley feel like there could of been a lot more to it and that this is kind of in a testing phase to see how the fans would like it
Needing more convincing on why I should wait. Thank you for sharing!
Pokemon has never been visually stunning though. The nature of the game makes that alot more work
I honestly would rather the graphics look like they do in this game then have a shitty AAA game with terrible mechanics
@@cjschneidt9089 that's simply not true, there are significantly more advanced and better looking games that have MUCH smaller budgets than Pokémon.
As nice as this game Is. it just feels like if any other game studio made this it would be way better
They should let Bandai Namco continue with it, or allow them to create a mainline title. They have shown more promise and care than Game Freak has.

I just don’t understand why they didn’t go all out on this if they really wanted to hook people on the whole open world pokemon idea
Given all the cut stuff that was found in that Sword and Shield beta that was leaked a year ago, it’s likely that they DID want to go all out for this game, but executive decisions or a limited timeframe stopped them.
Thats a easy question to answer it's GameWeak studio I mean Gamefreak studios
I think if they had more time they would.
Too greedy to wait and actually make a good game. They release whatever half assed games nowadays cuz they know the fans will eat it up regardless

More like 1 year and by a small, lazy team.
@@witchy90210 when its somewhat a popular title as like mario and legends of zelda id expect more for a new unique experience. ofc gameplay is important but id like if this game maybe took more time
even looking at botw which came out 5 years ago its clear theyres definitely a lot of room for improvement.
My feelings exactly. Looks like baby’s first Unity project you see on Steam for 5 bucks a piece
Especially when something like MH Rise is on the switch
just don't listen at this review , why ? --> " Product provided by nintendo" . Of course this is not "brutally honest" .
This game looks like it hasn't left the alpha stage lol. Sonic Boom from wii u looks more complete.
I wanted to like this game so much but it is a game that needed way more time in the oven and in the hands of a healthier studio then gamefreak or pokemon company for their horrible decisions the past decade alone
This game has the skeleton of a fantastic direction for pokemon, but unfortunately there's not much flesh on that skeleton
genuinely surprised that it still has the visual quality of a 20€ indie game on steam.
@@cosmicsvids Also, I dont even think it would be needed to make "BOTW but with pokemon"
This game looks like they were going for something, but didnt have the time to finish it.
So im also surprised that they:
a) Were so uncoordinated that the mapping, arts and game design departments all had diffrrent ideas of what the end product was meant to be, or
b) Didnt make a game that fits a scope of 2yrs, and instead tried making something that woulda taken at least 3 to make.

@@graycat7704 If your a completionist it'd worth the $60 if your only going to play the champaign it's not worth it. If that sounds fun to you it's worth it if your not here for the grind and just the main and post game journey your looking at about a 10-18 hour game
Honestly Dying Light 2 is coming out in February and it's pretty obvious that it'll be a better open world experience for $60 than this

Exactly world of warcraft has better graphics
I'll just say this, my level 20 Dewott has to spend 2 turns trying to defeat a level 2 Drifloon using an effective move. Maybe i'm wrong, but I think that's kinda weird.

Now check out Palworld trailer on youtube.

When you say brutally honest and product brought to you by Nintendo I have to take what the have to say with a grain of salt
You are one silly Billy!! :)
I feel this spin off series has so much potential to be amazing. Im going to buy it knowing its rough around the edges in the hopes nintendo and gamefreak don’t abandon this experiment and continue to make new installments.
That's the issue. You are paying money for a game that you KNOW is not up to standard. But you will pay them and they will not learn or change.

After 14 hours or so I’d say this game is awesome. Except I wish we could battle with friends casually, and the graphics. Though they haven’t bothered me as much because the world is still immersive. I especially enjoy watching the village be changed and improved as I progress. As well as np so gave mons to having them by their side
Ok so I have been noticing something, almost every AAA game that has come out fast 2021 feel unfinished or half done, at this point I have been expecting that and sticking with indie games and fan games as they feel polished and up to date in tech, but outside of that every game that I have seen come out that's fine by a AAA studio just looks thrown together and completely unpolished or buggy is sad to see happen and needs to be fixed, other than that the gameplay if this looks like a lot of fun but from what I have heard I should wait till it updates bugs, and gets cheeper

I bought the game, played for about 6 hours...and all the while playing I thought about games like The Witcher 3, Zelda Botw, and even monster hunter rise and honestly the whole new mechanics and lazy hisuian designs really didn't grip me. @@TotalXPvideos It's an issue with a lot of Japanese games I've realized. Even if they couldn't get the textures right if they just made the textures simpler instead of... Whatever "This" is, it wouldn't stand out so much. Lot of times the 3D assets stand out because of how HD they are but in this case they stand out because of how smudgey and awful they look. Grind your copy pasta shrines, egg and carrot off the beaten path collecting and boring bokoblins for 12000+ hours to be rewarded with your 1 actual proper weapon in the whole game 'level'?? Uh, yes - the same one that Link to the Past gave you in 1992?
@@netweed09 so do you think that you can do more in Legends and that Legends is more open and defined?
@@josemanuellopezgiraldez404 Obviously We disagree over this and that's fine. But to answer, yes - of course I do.
I've made many long posts about this but -
For me and how I feel about my experience, Legends Arceus gave me much more overall than Breath1 (after the Zora region was over). [Spoilers] Battling fresh new ideas like _actual New_ Pokemon but presented in more threatening (Noble) forms, the whole knowledge that whatever you do - there's always at least a Pokémon to catch, fight and *keep.* The whole Volo twist at the end is incredible and brings things all together; so satisfying - yet it whets the appetite for more potential (if you know the lore)!
I could go on and on but I'll just let CWR do the rest of the talking maybe.
Sorry - I simply find this better than what fighting some ugly, uninspired dark clones of blobs, trekking 200 miles past empty cliffs and volcanoes (unless you really dig copy pasta Bokoblins for days 🥱) only to be rewarded with my amazing ''EdGe Of DuAlitY dun dunnn dunn'' - shattering into fine dirt and dust after 5 minutes of Use.
Collecting random eggs and carrots for ,, ? For the lols I guess because nothing aside from some neat Ancient armor and the Master Sword actually matter in the game.
Might be a rare case of the Sequel trumping the original.

Agree about the battle, I think they need a pp meter and the power of each move will determine how much it uses whereas you can use multiple moves per turn depending on the amount of power it uses and the amount of pp the pokemon has, where if your speed doubles your opponent, you can attack twice before they go once..yk, sumn more exciting..
oh boy its like that

The texture are terrible, the pokemon are made of plastic and only walk, not interacting with the world :Zubat sleeping upside down of the trees, starly trying to catch wurmple, onix eating rocks, beautiflies eating nectar from flowers, nothing they are only thrown randomly on an open map (this game it's not even an open world, making it even worse)
The rocks are visibly made of polygons, the houses are all the same with even the same objects inside them, the npc are all still and do no action, besides telling you a random sentence, they don't have a real routine, they are not "alive ", the characters all have the same facial animations, the wheat it's so yellow that it burns your eyes but above all THE MUD , it's so horrible that only if you play it you can understand how bad it is, it looks like a mixture of caramel and shit all in very low resolution.

If you want to waste $60 to run around throwing pokeballs with no purpose than enjoy
If you play the game for the battling and competitive aspects then it is a hard pass.
Moves like quick attack have the same priority rate as bite…..
Need I say more

The standard is so low that a loading time is "impressive" which it should be the standard and nothing to be praised for a 2022 game standard. This whole game is a dumpster fire.
Imo, they made the moves lose their magic. I am in shock how Nintendo found the animations for moves like Judgement acceptable.
8 gyms and elite 4 crap.
the game just kind of seems like a fleshed out tech demo.
I also feel like I shouldn't just immediately drown if I fall into 5 ft of water (or at least I should be able to climb out?)
And what the heck is with the "falling" off of small hills? Do I have a built in squirrel suit I can't see? Whats with the gliding?
The crafting is an excellent mechanic, but I find that the medicinal herbs are not near abundant enough based on the amount of damage my team seems to incur. Is it just me or do hits from low-level pokemon seem to do a lot more damage than expected?
In short skip it
Just wait for a better legends era game
Game to big in scope for these devs
I've written off Game Freak entirely at this point. When Nintendo develops a mainline Pokémon game, give me a call.
this type of game is the first thing i think when they first announced the switch! may gamefreak try to experiment more with the franchise

It looks like some 12 year olds first unity project, there are literal phone games that look better and it's not just the graphics, the open world might be the worst I've ever seen
you are obviously a troll. No one cares about your opinion because everyone's loving pokemon arceus, including me.
Still on the fence about it so I'm watching plenty of reviews! Great video!
What a great looking wii game

And that's how you know this review is irrelevant
I’m happy they’re focusing on catching Pokémon and getting shiney and Alfa’s. Battles are cool and all but it was boring . I would always destroy every gym cause I would make sure to have my Pokémon strong and at a high level. That to me got repetitive . But in this game there’s so much to do ! I don’t see how one can get bored lol I’m excited for what’s to come . They’re on the right path.
First reviewer I've seen to actually mention the music. Bothers me so much that so many reviewers feel like music isn't worth mentioning, it's a big part of gaming for me.
I love pokemon and the idea of this game but it seems pointless catching pokemon and hardly ever battling
What I’ve been trying to say to everyone this whole time smh so pointless
Hopefully DLC or a Patch will add a player vs player mode at the dojo or over the arc phone in the future.
Thanks for the review. 👍
Also, I never pay attention to giveaways but I want to try out this Pokemon game but not pay for a Switch 🤣 here’s to ‘hoping’! 😆
emulate it lol
Anyone else have glitchy buggy moments in the graphics. Like a bidoof will be staring at me and then the cute little guy will get blurry all of a sudden.
I think that if they changed a few things, this would actually be a game I'd pick up.
I'm not too sure if I'm going to, maybe if I have a bit of extra money I will, but without multiplayer (one of my favorite aspects of pokemon games) battles, I'm not sure if I really wanna pay 60$ for this.
If it were 40$ (I get why it's 60$, it's clear they put lots of work into this game) it would be a 100% yes, but I just don't know right now.
felt the same. ended up buying it for 50 though. hopefully it’s worth it. i’m still a bit disappointed bout bdsp :(
@@prodbyNYEM I'm not gonna buy it until either the glitches and multiplayer are added, or the game drops to 40$, whichever comes first.
every time i think of buying legends arceus i always look at other $60 triple A games that have more polish and i immediately stop myself.
I hope nintendo just fire most of game freak's higher ups and get their main developer teams to make the next big pokemon game. Gamefreak gotta be burried for real.
