Can I say, one of my biggest pet peeves with this game is having to go back to jubilife every time you want to travel to a different area, there are ways to look at other areas on the map but not fast travel to them. I would like to atleast be able to travel to the arenas since when you look at other areas on the map the little wing even shows up in the area, but it doesn’t let you fly to them
Also, the amount of time you got unlucky and you went into a hoard battle where each Pokémon attacked your Pokémon before you got to move once, and some even got to move twice so you lose like 2 or of your really unlucky 3 right off the bat, it made the game harder, blu just kept forgetting about the mechanic and throwing useful Pokémon into battle first only for them to die immediately
Its for a reason its so the game can load in other areas without overloading the console everytime your going to a new area it pre loads everything and every pokemon in the chunks and it would also be harder to evaluate the pokemon you catch as well since you could catch litteraly every pokemon in every area before you had to head back into jubilife
@@jaytonjennings3589 but if you use the fast travel mechanic to get from area to area it still has the ability to load, there doesn’t even have to be a fast track mechanic, you could atleast be able to talk to the professor then go straight to another area instead of going back to jubilife first
A few things I think are very underrated features: > Sending out pokemon anywhere and interacting with them > Sent out pokemon interact with each other > When it rains pokemon and characters look wet > Time dilating Basculegion > Overworld pokemon attacks are always actual moves > A lot of character customization > Player character reacting to some things, like slow head shake sometimes
Also > adding to the wetness from rain, snow and swamp also affect the appearance of the character and ride Pokemon > Pokemon can evolve anytime and not just after levelling up for those special conditions >The music fades when walking away from battle (idk why i enjoy this so much lol) > wild pokemon behave differently, for example, while a Blissey would usually run, if you are hurt it will walk to you to help you „regen“ > first person and „cinematic camera“ while locking onto wild mons > the game not explicitly explaining all of its mechanics, really makes me feel like I am exploring a new world > full (regional) Pokédex in singleplayer > noticeable size differences Some people are saying this game is heartless because they see the „ugly graphics“ but with all these small additions that would not have been necessary I feel like there was more heart in this than any MSGs from the last few years.
Whenever you add an overly haughty and narcissistic character to a game, you ought to either have their perspective widen over time… or let the main characters beat the crap out of them and make them sad. Sadly, Melli’s still a douche even after everything is said and done.
Well he's MADE to be annoying, even Adaman was annoyed by him. So in that regard he fulfills his purpose lol. I didn't hate him though, once I understood that he was just a douche I even found him entertaining
I love this game so much dude. Easily the best Switch Pokemon game, one of my favorites ever personally. It's flawed, yes, but the gameplay is SO incredibly strong
my main thing is the graphics tend to look muddy, but i can’t complain too much because it’s literally the most interesting, well written and fun game pokemon has done since just about ever
I don't use the candy and have the same Problem as with every other new pokemon game in that all my pokemon are 10 levels too high. The fact that the other Trainers only use one pokemon doesn't make it better. Stupid xp-share
Favorite Pokémon game by far imo, only real problems I have are the graphics and the fact that some sidequests are a pain to complete. Either way it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with the series and I hope we get more
IMO legends arceus graphics not looking good make sense to me because this game is based on the region's past not it's future if it was based on the future then the graphics would look better
@@burpple9218 I do not care for the sub par graphics in these games. These games objectively have bad graphics, and at some points I totally noticed things sticking out because of them. All things considered, this is my favorite pokemon game, it's fantastic. If a game is to have not impressive graphics, then the art direction must help the not impressive graphics, but in this case it doesn't very much. Graphics can definitely impact some people though, so it's fine if they point them out.
Im going to have to disagree on the scaling down muted color pallet. Isle of armor was colorful because sword and shield was vibrant sinnoh was always more toned down even in dpp and dbsp. If this was unova, i would agree because the colors of those games were vibrant with the seasons and all that.
I like the blotchy artstyle. It looks like an old Japanese painting. I've argued this for a while now. I think the issues are the borders, but there's not much to be done different in that area. BotW also had them.
I'm so glad to see someone mention this. There were so many times while playing where I was like: "Look! Don't you see, it's old Japanese watercolor paintings!" but I'd already given up on saying that publicly. 😅
I think the cinematic at the end of the reveal trailer should've been how the game looked, with the inky outlines. Super Smash Bros for 3DS has a similar outline style that I think would look really neat had it been implemented into Legends: Arceus
@@braydoboss9505 I think that might get jarring. Possibly it happens when a Pokémon uses a strong or agile style mov and it has this effect where the outline looks like it’s being actively drawn on. Super random but I think it would be awesome.
Legends Arceus was able to do something that I hadn't felt since childhood: Make me feel as though I was *actually* in the world of Pokémon. Every area felt so immersive, so I spent literal hours in each area. Totaling my time up to 60 hours for completion.
I agree with you on the statement that, from a more logical/critical standpoint, this game is quite lacking in many areas, but because it's so fun, a lot of those things aren't a massive problem, and it still ends up being around a 9/10 for me. Honestly, with regards to the story, I wasn't too miffed by the slow dialogue scenes, as I like slowing down and taking my time to take everything in and have conversations with the characters, but I can see how it could get annoying for some. I agree that the characters in this game were all really strong too, both design and personality wise. I really felt that these characters were I've formed really strong attachments to, and so quickly as well. I didn't really like the Misfortune sisters, as their dialogue was cheesy, and to me, some of the worst dialogue in the game. I just hate the silly gimmick they have with their names, and the way they introduce themselves, but more power to you for enjoying them. I'm also happy to find someone else who can appreciate Kamado even after what he did. I never really held it against him, as I know being a leader can sometimes entail making difficult and sometimes harsh choices without remorse. I can understand what he was doing, as his accusations were actually well-founded, and not completely baseless, and really, it was never anything personal. He was just looking out for the collective, his village, who he has known and lead for years, so to him, if there's even a tiny chance that a random stranger he let in a few months ago could be a danger to the people he has looked after for years, it is easy to see that it would not be a very hard decision to make if you were in his shoes. So yeah, I even like Kamado. Not Melli though. Screw that guy lol. And when it comes to graphics, my sentiment is pretty much the same as that of most other people. The graphics are subpar to me, but not bad enough to seriously detract from the game. And like you said, the actual world design itself is pretty freaking good. The Cobalt Coastlands and the Alabaster Icelands were some of the most beautiful areas in the game, and Jubilife Village was also extremely pretty and cozy too. I could just vibe there for ages. And again, like you said, while the graphics aren't great, those new move animations are so damn smooth. I'm not even salty that they removed hundreds of moves, because have you seen how freaking beautiful Sword Dance looks now??? Agile style and Strong style were also great for tactics. If you could get an agile style Swords Dance, agile style Baby Doll Eyes and then an attack in, you were absolutely set for some great times while battling. And God knows I agile styled my freaking ass off during the Volo and Giratina battles lol. The noble battles were also really fun for me too, as it was always intense and kept me on my feet having to constantly dodge attacks, and then trying to get some balms in during those short windows of time where I was away from the attacks. It was a simple formula, but it kept me on my toes, with it having me go from one thing to the next so quickly, and requiring you to make very little mistakes while doing it. As always, the soundtrack was a banger. And I agree that the Cobalt Coastlands theme, the late night theme, the Dialga and Palkia origin form battle theme and Volo's battle theme were all absolute bangers. I loved the route 210 part of the Cobalt Coastlands music, the Dialga and Palkia battle music reminded me of Galar's soundtrack, and I loved how Volo's theme smoothly hopped about between menacing, graceful and triumphant. Really, I just wish that we had learned more about Volo, as he has what feels like a total of 2 minutes when it comes to him talking about his true self, his motivations and his backstory. I find Volo to be a character with so much potential for amazing writing, but it felt like they really only ever scratched the surface, and that they missed a pretty big opportunity with him. It was still done decently though, and he did give us one of the best freaking battles ever. I have some other small nitpicks with the game too, like not being able to throw things when on mounts, having to go back to Jubilife Village every time you want to fast travel to another subregion of Hisui, and never being able to bring out more than 1 Pokemon to battle, even when you're up against multiple other Pokemon. And yeah, it's a pain that your main Pokemon can put most of the effort in, but then get no EXP because it fainted. But the small quality of life changes like overworld shinies, Pokemon not forgetting old moves, with them always being there to swap back in, and evolution being something that you choose to do in your Pokemon team menu were all quality of life changes that, in my opinion, make up for those other annoying little things. I think this game was really fun though, and a massive part of that was just how fresh this new formula was. I feel like we would all be much more critical of a Pokemon game with this amount of flaws (with some of them being pretty glaring ones) if it didn't provide us with such a fresh new gameplay and exploration formula. It's a seriously fun and addictive game, and I think it's definitely the treatment that Sinnoh deserved. I'm already craving DLC for this game now haha.
Very good comment, and I agree with most of it, but I have one thing: Do you think Volo will come back? His exit was incredibly... strange, and I don't think it's really the last we'll see of him. He was able to control Giratina, a deity in the Pokémon world, so I wouldn't be surprised if he also found a way to live a few extra centuries. AZ did it way before him, after all. It's just that he specifically says "no matter how many centuries it may take" and simply walks off. It definitely implies something in my opinion, so I'm not too upset that he didn't get much screen time, because he's left open to get more.
I'm not too far into game (got it a few days ago) but I told myself I wouldn't be burned by another Pokemon game. I would only get the game if it had great reviews from players. And it DID. The game has sucked me in and while it does have some noticeable issues I've had a blast just running around finding what Pokemon are in the area. Can't wait to unlock Braviary and Basqulegion to explore some more.
I always like your pokemon reviews, you don't shy away from the fact that you like modern pokemon and want to enjoy the games, without ignoring the flaws. That's the kind of attitude I have going into the games and it's nice to see someone with such a big platform who shares that.
Volo has become my favorite character in Pokemon. He seemed super off to me from the moment I met him, I just couldn't place why since he fulfilled a similar role to Cynthia in gen 4/8. I didn't quite pick up on his full villainous side until the final series of quests. But after looking back, I noticed the small little differences between him and Cynthia: Cynthia was a guide to Sinnoh whereas Volo acted like a competitor to you to every location- he beat you every time. The biggest difference to me though was how you encountered him. Where Cynthia seemed like she legimitately happened to cross paths with you, Volo would sneak up behind you and jumpscare you- much like a ghost would, like his ace- hinting at the point where he would betray you and try to take you down. He's SUCH a good character.
I would have to say I agree with a lot of this review! My biggest complaint is the turn system. I feel as though I have no idea how many turns are going to happen before my next turn, ESPECIALLY when there is more than one Pokémon involved, like 3 Pokémon somehow get 4-6 turns in before I get one and I haven't even used strong style, like what?
Not really a part of the Legends soundtrack, but I love the fact that the Celestic flute’s jingle is the same that initially plays at the load up of BP
The town music in this game is exactly what I wanted. It's the same vibe I had with the town music in SWSH. I want it to sound nostalgic even on my first time hearing it.
I had a truly beautiful moment with the Jubilife Village theme. I was just listening to it in game, and I noticed one of my cats was staring at me. I looked back, and she maintained eye contact. I have struggled with mental illness my entire life, and at 33, it was the most in-the-moment I've ever felt. So now I have a great sentimental attachment to this game like I do to Platinum.
I havent had this much fun playing a pokemon game since probably Pokemon Colosseum on the GameCube. And that's when I was 7 years old and I'm a grown ass man now, so that speaks volumes
I agree. My dad bought me Blue back in 98 with I was like 12 years old and I played every mainline game besides the Black and White gen. This is the most fun I've had since probably Ruby and Sapphire.
the CG of Gamefreak is watching everyone's playthrough to learn more of what players want so this is an huge step up I'm not really upset at the graphics wasn't an huge loss for me but there were a few moments were pokemon and people at an distance their framerate drop greatly. This has been the best and fun Pokemon game I've played in an long time and hope the future titles improve with this style.
I just don't understand how the biggest money making media franchise on this planet can produce a game made in 2022 that looks like it could've been on the Gamecube.
When I heard Volos theme for the first time I grew a huge smile and then was immediately scared full well knowing I was going to fight Cynthia’s team while not being well prepared for that fight
I'll say, they really should just let you travel between areas instead of having to travel back to the village everytime you want to go somewhere else There's a lot of fetch quests that take double the time to complete because of the loading screens, which I do admit, it's quite fast, only like 10 secs
You saying streamers or anyone who don’t play the post game and end up unsatisfied with it reminds me of how people who play PMD TDS never do that either. Like Legends Arceus, the main game of TDS is great, but the post game also explains why things occurred.
I personally don't mind the graphics, having played a lot of indie games with pared-down graphics, it's how the game handles is how I rate games above anything else. However, I know for certain that if this game had BOTW-level graphics, a lot of fans would still hate it and say it's Gamecube graphics.
Exactly, I’m quite fond of the graphics! While I’ve never been a *huge* fan of muted color schemes, I found it pretty appealing here! Sometimes the (not too noticeable) background Pokémon move at 3 fps, but I’d rather that than melting my switch; and anyway the less time spent on graphics the more time spent on actual gameplay, which is more important (though I rather that they spend more time for both).
@@Batterykitten8 I don't exactly play Pokémon games for the graphics. I like the regions to have an appealing aesthetic which this game nails on the head. Yes, if it was a PC game or a different franchise altogether I'd expect better, but this game focused on the correct things, which were the mechanics and play style.
I have to disagree to an extent. The gameplay I enjoyed tremendously however, they have not taken to heart the complaints people had with previous games in terms of graphics. If this game had botw graphics, there would be LESS hate, still be some, but there'd be a LOT less at least that's the general feel I have after going through hours of reddit feeds and reviews as well as people reacting to Verlisify's review, which by far is the worst "review" ever on the game.
While the graphics don't bother me all that much, and have not hindered my enjoyment of the game, I do see a lot of room for improvement. It looks empty and barren in certain places, with low quality textures and some pretty bad bugs with shadows in caves. I don't mind the muted color palette, but some of the terrain is very same-y. That said, you can tell they took the time with pokemon and cutscene animations, and I really enjoy that-- that matters a little more to me than the setting. Still, I think it's entirely unfair to compare Arceus (or any pokemon game) with an indie game; this is _Gamefreak_ we're talking about, not an indie dev team with limited resources. They _should_ be held to a higher standard, and it isn't wrong for people to expect more from such a rich company.
To me the only major flaws are the regional dex which seems like it's mostly just Pokemon from gens 1 and 4 (that might just be me tho) and the fact that they still haven't made it compatible with HOME.
It makes sense since it shows all Gen 4 Pokemon that debuted in Sinnoh and their evolutionary relatives (like Gardevoir since it’s Gallade’s counterpart), and some Pokémon from the DPPt regional dex that aren’t from Gen 4. But I do agree on that and think there could have been more than just 242 Pokemon, it felt small to me. Around 300-400.
@@IgnitedQuils Yep, making it similar to the Sinnoh dex makes sense but they could've at least added more Pokemon, especially past gen 4 ones, there's barely any
Best Pokémon game ever made, the Pokémon models are just absolutely stellar. To finally see Darkrai in high res 3D like this is just amazing. All the models were amazing. I actually really liked the long winded storytelling, I’m a huge elder scrolls fan so this game really scratched that itch. I also love that gamefreak finally gave us a challenging Pokémon game, like a game made for the OG fans.
I feel like a lot about this game makes sense when you realize it was directed by Kazumasa Iwao, the same guy in charge of USUM. The insufferable tutorials? Long winded dialogue? Fighting boss monsters rather than gym leaders? A primary focus on the other characters rather than yourself? Insistence on breaking out of established norms in the series? It's all there.
to be fair in USUM, the tutorials weren't created by Iwao, they were already there. I think the main thing that carried over from USUM is the difficulty, especially when you compare Volo and Ultra Necrozma.
I think with good dlc on the level of sword/shield, this game can elevate itself to become something truly amazing, I was very disappointed with sword, but the dlc took that game from a 5/10 to a 7/10, hopefully the dlcs can have this same effect on this already good game
Yeah and I imagine we’ll definitely get it considering the cloudy areas and that if snap got free dlc and swsh paid dlc we should definitely see arceus dlc
That’s a good review Ron I agree with a lot of the points you mentioned and I firmly believe that if it wasn’t for TPC deadline this game would have been released in November this year and it would have been so much better. One thing I’d like to mention that a lot of RPGs tend to only give you exp at the end of the battle so I didn’t find that to be annoying since I’m used to it
I think my biggest problem was the trainer battles. The final battle is incredibly fun, and I wish there were more trainer battles during the story and that they had more Pokémon. Especially since the trainer battle music is so cool yet you only hear it like 10 times in the game. Other than that I have some other small complaints, most of them ones that you have covered. It's not perfect, but it's definitely the best Pokémon experiences I've had these last few years. I don't want them to abandon traditional games, but I want some of these new gameplay elements to transfer to future games.
@@tpsam Yeah I understand why there aren't many trainers story-wise. But gameplay-wise it makes the game more repetitive, at least with trainer battles you switch between having to catch to having to battle tougher battles. If the trainers had at least more Pokémon it would have been better, most battles ended in less than 1 minute
i dont mind the story bits it kinda felt more natural and it gives the player more lure to the story of pokemon, i think most people who wont be into pokemon would not care if the story was 10/10 writing anyways lets be real honest
It's kind of funny to me, I've been frustrated for years that Pokétubers talk about teams of 6 when the party EXP allows for more Pokémon to be used and swapped around (I used 12 in BDSP). Now there's a game where those same people talk about using large teams and this is the one I stuck to 6 Pokémon almost religiously.
I've seen a lot of reviews for this game and I have to say this is probably the most honest one I've seen. I'm glad there's a review out now that's not just trying to convince everyone to buy or not buy the game. I'm not sure you know what the word arbitrary means though.
Volo battle was great. I popped off when I fainted Giratina because it took me a bit of time not wanting to use items at all; only for the second form to happen and I had to restart again lol
Game freak - how do we create a post game so fans don’t complain? How about we just put the actual ending there so we don’t have to answer that question.
I think my favourite track in this game was the Obsidian Fieldlands. The moment that cello starts, it melts me head to toe. It perfectly captured the feeling of grandeur and ancestry, the untouched wild nature and fresh air of a land unharmed by human intervention. For me, its the true meaning of "Breath of the Wild".
The last time I was so emotionally attached to a Pokemon character was Lillie. I can't tell you the amount of angsty fanfics I've read about Emmett and Ingo.
This game is occasionally grindy if you’re the type to minmax your team and overprepare for the significant challenges, but the interesting thing is that it never *feels* grindy if you don’t soft-reset for something. A bunch of evolution items that are usually fairly rare and limited in number in the other games (unless you’re willing to grind *a ton* ) are mostly completely possible to get multiple of just by running around and gathering crafting resources or one-shotting a bunch of certain Pokémon. I literally have 2-8 of every evolution stone stored away now just from zipping around and gathering other resources for Either Pokéballs, smoke bombs, or or potions throughout my playthrough.
Overall this game is like a 7-8/10 but considering how abysmal all the other Switch Pokémon games have been, this is a MASSIVE step-up in terms of quality. I really hope Scarlet and Violet keep this momentum going and push themselves far ahead of LGPE, SWSH and most of all BDSP.
The updated exp system is SO much better for trainer battles. It means you can't simply overlevel your pokemon by losing to the same trainer over and over again like in the old days. It means you actually have to go out and train or change your strategy, and then return to fight the boss.
What I really like in the game is catching pokemon. In previous games, after I caught a few pokemon, I would stack up on repels. Here, where it's faster, I love catching tons of them, and the same ones too. And the fact all of them are catchable and you don't need to trade is amazing.
I have a love-hate relationship with this game and I agree with pretty much all your points. I've played about 20 hours so far and have actually done very little of the story (or at least it feels like very little) in favor of exploring the map. My personally biggest issue so far really are the controls. The button mapping is so completely different to all other Pokemon games that I keep messing up simple things I wanna do. The fact that there's no way to change the button setups is annoying beyond reason to me.
All good points, I feel like Legends Arceus is a "stepping stone" for what Pokemon games will be like in the future. Although, I wonder if Gen 9 will incorporate the battle mechanics/ meta of this game or if it will return to the mechanics of previous games. Another point I will like to add is that I think that Legends Arceus had a much better difficulty curve than Sword/Shield, where I though Gen 8 was a bit casual, Legends Arceus challenges the player and opens the door for more strategic thinking
Seeing Ingo in Legends: Arceus was genuinely so cool to me. This character who initially I only BARELY knew due to thinking his design was neat in gen 5 became such a sudden all time favorite of mine, and clearly a ton of people were also able to get invested in him because of that. Fallers have always been such a rad concept in pokemon as well, so I sincerely hope that we get to see his story concluded, or at least elaborated upon in a later entry. (personally I think that if Emmet is still in the present and searching for Ingo like a lot of people speculate, it'd be a GREAT excuse to bring Looker back, and to branch out the UB Task Force) Seeing the responses of other fans unfold in real time has also been INCREDIBLY fun to watch. People get so creative with the open-endedness of this plotline for fan works, and its an absolute JOY to see what people do with it (We be exploring the grief of losing a sibling through psychological horror fanart of pokemon subway conductors. It is just as ridiculous as it sounds and it is also great.)
It’s genuinely such a fun game, at first I was kinda annoyed with the whole catch every Pokemon you see in order to progress, but it grew on me so quick. The bugs don’t even bother me because it’s so fun and exciting to play. The Pokémon actually felt alive, they interacted with you, attacked you or ran away from you. Definitely NOT what I expected especially since how underwhelming Sword and Shield were. The storyline was also really cool, like getting kicked out of the village was a turn I didn’t expect. Game Freak stepped up their game fr
Man, when you reviewed the music it made me wish I had payed more attention to the soundtrack, and focused on playin on the game when I could have it at full volume to get the full immersive experience.
This game is such a unique experience. It made me come back to pokémon after a year. SO MANY features were improved and the pokémon lore was expanded more than ever before. Really a step-up from BDSP. Too bad I couldn’t enjoy the music as much as I wanted to because I was interrupted by wild pokémon so much.
@@SawkTheFighter13 the only trouble i had with the volo battle was when i accidentally healed the wrong pokemon, my bad 😅 , but hey at least i got him in one try.
@@SawkTheFighter13 Attempt 1- Died to volo themselves after getting them down to their last mon, a togekiss. My last was a Parasect. You can see how things went south, Attempt 2- made it to giratina fight with 2 Pokémon. Got to second phase but died shortly afterward. Attempt 3- Victory after stocking up on max potions and getting more than 5 revives.
I didn't play the games cause I don't have a switch, but I liked Volo cause he was cute. Finding out that he is a villain though? I'm in love. Villains are always my favorite, and that shot of Giratina coming from behind him while he has that wild look is perfection.
i love this game so much. my most memorable moment (other than that dope ass volo and giratina moment) was hearing the music, when it turned into an almost subnautica sound at 15:48
15:40 definitely my favorite music by far. It instantly reminded me of one of my very favorite games ever, Subnautica, and I instantly fell in love with it and always was glad that in return for not being able to battle with shaymin sky, I got such wonderful music.
Finally a review from someone who REALLY understands Pokémon, definitely my fav review of PLA so far, nobody else capture how beautiful it is that the music in jubillife village changing as the village grows, how reassuring it was to see Ingo, etc Thanksssss!!!
I’ll have to come back to this when i finish the game but man oh MAN am i loving it so far - I agree the graphics aren’t great but when there are beautiful areas like heartwood, even if unintentional, i definitely enjoy them more! The battles are so fluid and the pokémon themselves do feel very alive … i also love all the side quests and it makes me feel like i’m helping bring together people and pokémon :)
I think it would be fun to have either a sequel or dlc (or whatever form would be best really) for PLA with you and an exposition force being some of the first people to explore the underground. It would make the opportunity for more Pokémon, more alfas, and more lore into the game while still feeling dynamic with the current approach
Love the melli slander 😌 But seriously, I love his character for this, he's obviously meant to be hated by the player, and his character is beautifully written so
I don't get the people who are saying the graphics are subpar... I come from the land of when we had a whole game in 2D with monochromatic colors and no backlighting so... it's not hard to please me. I think the look of Arceus is beautiful!
I hope how the pokemon learn moves, battling, evolutions and battling are things I really hope they bring back. As some one who hasn't played a game since gen 5 I really enjoyed the game.
I've subbed. Great to see a big Poketuber using actual logic and points instead of just hating on a game or, even worse, fanboying over the game so hard that they can't see it flaws. Much more enjoyable review than Verlisify's or Mandjtv's for example.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is very different from the other past Pokemon games because sometime a trainer need to dodge a wild Pokemon's attack instead the usual Pokemon battle to weaken a wild Pokemon before catching it. Watch some of the video on TH-cam of how to dodge even the legendary Pokemon like Palkia, Dialga, Giratina and Arceus is really hard😒 as it reminds me one of Nintendo sitch games like Zelda and Mario. I know Gamefreak wanted to do something interesting and a challenge in the Pokémon Legends: Arceus Game but I prefer goinging back to the traditional of catching Pokemon instead.
16:50 "It sounds like the future in a world that takes place in the past" I love that sentence, that sounds really cool, and inspiring! X3 Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game, Truegreen7, I was looking forward to your review! ^^
Brilliant game my only problems are that I think 300 pokemon would’ve been a better number and how a lot of the time in the wild there is only weather noises. The music is so good I want to hear it much more often
Here’s hoping Legends Arceus 2 (Legends Rayquaza idk) has the balls (no pun intended) to put every Pokémon ever in it. I really wanna see a Pokémon game with every Mon up until that point in it.
Someone finally sees the same thing I see in the game besides the fact it being one of the favorites. THIS GAME WAS MY FAVORITE, to be fair I haven’t played since ORAS, but omg from what I’ve remember and after going thru a playthrough of BDSP, THIS IS THE BEST GAME MADE, but, it doesn’t mean it’s flawless. For something completely different from old games but yet so similar, they were walking on eggshells and cracked a couple on their way to their finish line, but the path still looks nice and clean.
Legends Arceus encapsulates the main thing that hooked me in the Pokemon series in the first place: Exploring wild and untamed land. Sadly in the mainline this ended in the sixth generation.
I was skeptical about this game at first, now looking at how much they evolved the gameplay and made this game like Breath of the wild I can honestly say that this is one of best Pokemon Game I've played in the last 7 years. This game proves that we do not need competitive battling or over the top concepts like Dynamax, having overwhelming rematches with the same characters. Legends Arceus is Game of the year for me.
I totally agree with you and ya i think that game freak was forced to rush this game if this game had at least 1 more year in oven then it would have been the best pokemon game but i am happy on what i got this time and hey maybe the gen 9 will meet our expectations they are giving it more time which is very nice but i really hate the fact that they sacrificed sinnoh remakes for this
I gotta say, I think this game is pretty fun, and good for the most part. The problems I have are with a bunch of small things. I really like the idea of the agile and strong moves, but I can’t count how many times it didn’t work the way it should’ve, or how many times I’ve gotten destroyed by a wild Pokémon, all because they managed to attack me 2-3 times before I could even go once. I personally think that if they were to make another game similar, in the future, things would be far more refined
I both love and hate Ingo. One one hand its so nice to see such a cool character get a story continuation. However, his story is so tragic to me. It's strange because I was never too invested in the Battlesubways. But when you think of Ingo you always think of his brother, Emmet, with him. I don't know why this character makes me cry, but what I would give to have some sort of reunion between him and his brother. Maybe he gets sent back to the future? In any case he's definitely my favorite character/warden.
I don't know how controversial an opinion this is: My biggest problem is frankly the Agile/Strong Style system. I really like what they did to the combat, bringing down the importance of levels and thus making strategy more important, as well as mechanic changes like how stat boosts work and the new status conditions, but Agile/Strong Style just serves to bring about frustrating moments. There's nothing that feels worse than having your 'mon get double or triple hit and KO'd before you've even had the chance to move, and it's not like there's many strategic decisions to be made as a result - using Agile to get two moves is always correct. The only thing up in the air is whether using a Strong move will be the difference-maker in knocking out a Mon, which basically always feels like a coinflip that you get really punished for losing. It's just not fun having the opponent be able to play in such a way that all you get to do is watch them knock out your Mons. I really wish the game was still 1 move per turn on both sides but kept the other (really clever) changes they made to the system.
Candice's ancestor is so angry because it heard all the bad 'what's this gym leader's name' jokes Also when the Origin Palkia/Dialga theme goes into 5/4 and 3/4 oh my gosh
My favourite part of this game was the most painful personally... It was when after several tries I beat Giratina just to hear the 2nd form change and feel the chills as the music seem to replace a war cry as Giratina changes form, and then the realization hits you... You're screwed... Also the Eurobeat fight is SO DAMN GOOD I WILL PLAY THE GAME AGAIN JUST TO SAVE BEFORE THE FIGHT AND DEACTIVATE AUTOSAVES... The music is so good, so intimidating, it pumps you up so hard that when I was finished I had an hour of playtime and I didn't realized!
I don’t know what everyone else’s experience is but for me the AI is better than it ever has been. I had 2 Gastlys roll up on me in a pincer maneuver; one hit me with Hypnosis while the other immediately followed up with Hex. I wasn’t even mad. I’ve seen memes pointing out that nearby Pokémon dip out once you encounter one of them, but for me it seems like they like to gang up rather than run away
If you haven't thrown your Pokemon out to challenge an aggressive wild Pokemon, any others nearby that get triggered with the red ! above its head will also join the fight
It's funny how you say you enjoy the sun and moon tutorial more but I played arceus first and then decided to go back and play sun and moon because I hadn't played it when it came out and I think the tutorial in sun and moon is too slow even compared to arceus
“I was completely surprised and embarrassed of my doubts when the villages theme evolved as it developed and slowly became Jubalife city’s theme by the end” Hmm.. a town’s musical theme slowly growing in complexity as time progresses and the area develops and becomes more populated.. I wonder where I’ve seen that before? Fr though, I know a lot of people compare it to BOTW due to the environment/graphics, but there are many smaller things I don’t see pointed out by many reviewers. Last night I did a double-take when I read this line of dialogue: “hundreds of years ago, a being that brought calamity to this region was sealed away”. Yeah, I realise that isn’t a concept exclusive to or owned by the Zelda franchise, but at this point I almost feel like I’m being trolled by the game devs.
I skipped past the story part so I wouldn't get spoiled but then I got spoiled about the final battle!! And its so cool! Could you be sure to put a longer spoiler warning for things like that next time? I couldn't close out of the video fast enough... Im annoyed I got spoiled at the music section..
I agree with you there. But I've been waiting for a pokemon game like this for over 20 years, so I don't have too many complaints
Its for a reason its so the game can load in other areas without overloading the console everytime your going to a new area it pre loads everything and every pokemon in the chunks and it would also be harder to evaluate the pokemon you catch as well since you could catch litteraly every pokemon in every area before you had to head back into jubilife
@@jaytonjennings3589 but if you use the fast travel mechanic to get from area to area it still has the ability to load, there doesn’t even have to be a fast track mechanic, you could atleast be able to talk to the professor then go straight to another area instead of going back to jubilife first
@@fruitysnack6909 the fact they got rid of the mechanic of hitting every pokemon on field from moves like swift and earthquake is disgusting.
A few things I think are very underrated features:
> Sending out pokemon anywhere and interacting with them
> Sent out pokemon interact with each other
> When it rains pokemon and characters look wet
> Time dilating Basculegion
> Overworld pokemon attacks are always actual moves
> A lot of character customization
> Player character reacting to some things, like slow head shake sometimes
Also
> adding to the wetness from rain, snow and swamp also affect the appearance of the character and ride Pokemon
> Pokemon can evolve anytime and not just after levelling up for those special conditions
>The music fades when walking away from battle (idk why i enjoy this so much lol)
> wild pokemon behave differently, for example, while a Blissey would usually run, if you are hurt it will walk to you to help you „regen“
> first person and „cinematic camera“ while locking onto wild mons
> the game not explicitly explaining all of its mechanics, really makes me feel like I am exploring a new world
> full (regional) Pokédex in singleplayer
> noticeable size differences
Some people are saying this game is heartless because they see the „ugly graphics“ but with all these small additions that would not have been necessary I feel like there was more heart in this than any MSGs from the last few years.
I just wish Pokémon could evolve during battle.
@@whistlingtoe7350 yeah me too but after thinking for a while in my bed before sleeping i think that's gonna be super hard

I like how no matter what our opinion on the game is, we can all agree that Melli was the most annoying character of the entire game
I thought he was funny
You can say that again. I HATED him.
Whenever you add an overly haughty and narcissistic character to a game, you ought to either have their perspective widen over time… or let the main characters beat the crap out of them and make them sad.
Sadly, Melli’s still a douche even after everything is said and done.
He was so annoying in a funny way, I absolutely hate and love him at the same time
Well he's MADE to be annoying, even Adaman was annoyed by him.

The no xp when fainting thing was such a problem for me that I found myself reviving my pokemon just so they could get the xp they earned
Never kept so many revives in my inventory like this before
Hence why XP candies are a thing.
Really?
I don't use the candy and have the same Problem as with every other new pokemon game in that all my pokemon are 10 levels too high. The fact that the other Trainers only use one pokemon doesn't make it better. Stupid xp-share
...other people don't use revives to make sure fainted pokemon get XP?
Favorite Pokémon game by far imo, only real problems I have are the graphics and the fact that some sidequests are a pain to complete. Either way it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with the series and I hope we get more
IMO legends arceus graphics not looking good make sense to me because this game is based on the region's past not it's future if it was based on the future then the graphics would look better
Shame on you. A game's graphics should not matter. Be better.
@@burpple9218 they don’t, I had a lot of fun with the game and they aren’t terrible. Just not amazing. It’s not a huge deal but just a minor complaint
@@kyleheck5363 then shame off you, good lad
Same. I thought it looked great.
I think the cinematic at the end of the reveal trailer should've been how the game looked, with the inky outlines. Super Smash Bros for 3DS has a similar outline style that I think would look really neat had it been implemented into Legends: Arceus
yeah i never really felt the complaints about the graphics
game looked fine to me
@@braydoboss9505 I think that might get jarring. Possibly it happens when a Pokémon uses a strong or agile style mov and it has this effect where the outline looks like it’s being actively drawn on. Super random but I think it would be awesome.
Legends Arceus was able to do something that I hadn't felt since childhood:
Make me feel as though I was *actually* in the world of Pokémon.
I didn't read the whole thing.
But wud appreciate you on writing this long
Very good comment, and I agree with most of it, but I have one thing:
Do you think Volo will come back? His exit was incredibly... strange, and I don't think it's really the last we'll see of him. He was able to control Giratina, a deity in the Pokémon world, so I wouldn't be surprised if he also found a way to live a few extra centuries. AZ did it way before him, after all. It's just that he specifically says "no matter how many centuries it may take" and simply walks off. It definitely implies something in my opinion, so I'm not too upset that he didn't get much screen time, because he's left open to get more.
They're massive issues even if one doesnt see the issue
Never get mid from a big company especially when it's been mid for 3 gens now
can someone simplify, im stupid.

That's exactly why I'm watching this review lol
@@StrideX21 you should get it. It's the second best pokemon game for me.

You can actually pull up the turn list menu by I belive pressing Y. It's off by default for some reason though
You can press the 'Y' button during a battle to know about the turns in the right side of screen
@@prakharrai4283 this ^. This is something that should be on by default imo

I know it isn't a flawless game but I've never had more fun playing a Pokémon game in my life

I love Eurobeat and in my mind ii just KNEW the Origin Palkia and Dialga theme was Eurobeat!
I'll say, they really should just let you travel between areas instead of having to travel back to the village everytime you want to go somewhere else
There's a lot of fetch quests that take double the time to complete because of the loading screens, which I do admit, it's quite fast, only like 10 secs
The music at several points gave me really hard pokemon mystery dungeon vibes. I teared up several times, the nostalgia hit me like a truck.
You saying streamers or anyone who don’t play the post game and end up unsatisfied with it reminds me of how people who play PMD TDS never do that either. Like Legends Arceus, the main game of TDS is great, but the post game also explains why things occurred.
Kindaaa wish you plumped the post game to one spot, so ppl who haven’t played post game yet don’t have to skip whenever Volo comes up
I personally don't mind the graphics, having played a lot of indie games with pared-down graphics, it's how the game handles is how I rate games above anything else.
@@ThatLittleLola Yep!
It’s the gen 4 dex with a few outliers
Yes, the lack of Pokémon was really frustrating. I wish there was at least 500
I think it's fair enough, as it's justifiable from a lore standpoint. Like, the Pokédex would be roughly the same.
No wonder I loved USUM so much
@@Izzy_2003 Did you play Sun and Moon too?
@@konrad8838 Yes, and i love them just as much
to be fair in USUM, the tutorials weren't created by Iwao, they were already there. I think the main thing that carried over from USUM is the difficulty, especially when you compare Volo and Ultra Necrozma.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are defiantly very hard, and that's what make them my second favourite pokemon games, after this one.
FINALLY a review that goes in depth about the music!
Mikey and Ron made a video the same day, this is a good day !
(personally I think that if Emmet is still in the present and searching for Ingo like a lot of people speculate, it'd be a GREAT excuse to bring Looker back, and to branch out the UB Task Force)
Seeing the responses of other fans unfold in real time has also been INCREDIBLY fun to watch. People get so creative with the open-endedness of this plotline for fan works, and its an absolute JOY to see what people do with it (We be exploring the grief of losing a sibling through psychological horror fanart of pokemon subway conductors. It is just as ridiculous as it sounds and it is also great.)
It's interesting to hear your take on the story since the Asone Region's story shares so many themes and ideas
The light night theme sounds for all the world like a Subnautica track and I love that
It’s genuinely such a fun game, at first I was kinda annoyed with the whole catch every Pokemon you see in order to progress, but it grew on me so quick.
Spoiler Alert
The fight with Volo was TERRIFYING. Giratina was also a really hard battle!
I beat it with ease
@@SawkTheFighter13 the only trouble i had with the volo battle was when i accidentally healed the wrong pokemon, my bad 😅 , but hey at least i got him in one try.
@@SawkTheFighter13 Attempt 1- Died to volo themselves after getting them down to their last mon, a togekiss. My last was a Parasect. You can see how things went south,
Attempt 2- made it to giratina fight with 2 Pokémon. Got to second phase but died shortly afterward.
Attempt 3- Victory after stocking up on max potions and getting more than 5 revives.
It's nice to be able to actually complete a manageable Pokédex, on my own!
Finally a review from someone who REALLY understands Pokémon, definitely my fav review of PLA so far, nobody else capture how beautiful it is that the music in jubillife village changing as the village grows, how reassuring it was to see Ingo, etc
Thanksssss!!!
it's 2022, and Nintendo still is so behind on EVERYTHING. it's actually really really sad.
Love the melli slander 😌
But seriously, I love his character for this, he's obviously meant to be hated by the player, and his character is beautifully written so
I don't get the people who are saying the graphics are subpar... I come from the land of when we had a whole game in 2D with monochromatic colors and no backlighting so... it's not hard to please me. I think the look of Arceus is beautiful!
Personally I love the graphics, it gives of this painted feel and I love that so much
Thank you!!! I feel like that was the intention; being reminiscent of old Japanese oil paintings to help illustrate the historical significance.
I really hated the automatic dynamic camera angles in the 3D games.
I hope how the pokemon learn moves, battling, evolutions and battling are things I really hope they bring back. As some one who hasn't played a game since gen 5 I really enjoyed the game.
Volo alone makes this the best Pokémon game and we must really appreciate the Easter egg and effort in that battle alone
I've subbed. Great to see a big Poketuber using actual logic and points instead of just hating on a game or, even worse, fanboying over the game so hard that they can't see it flaws. Much more enjoyable review than Verlisify's or Mandjtv's for example.
Legends Arceus has easily taken the spot as my favorite Pokemon game. The only thing that I wish they would've included was voice acting.
This review was so amazingly well made that I had to turn on my switch 3/4 of the way through the video
16:50 "It sounds like the future in a world that takes place in the past"
I love that sentence, that sounds really cool, and inspiring! X3
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the game, Truegreen7, I was looking forward to your review! ^^
Brilliant game my only problems are that I think 300 pokemon would’ve been a better number and how a lot of the time in the wild there is only weather noises. The music is so good I want to hear it much more often
My favorite part about this game is the music when you see Giratina in it's Origin Forme. Oh such a big, fat W!
Here’s hoping Legends Arceus 2 (Legends Rayquaza idk) has the balls (no pun intended) to put every Pokémon ever in it. I really wanna see a Pokémon game with every Mon up until that point in it.
The late night music is agreed a 10/10, amazing!
wow cool what's a Pokémon if only this video explained it to me 🥺🥺
Someone finally sees the same thing I see in the game besides the fact it being one of the favorites.
I adore this game's historic vibe. Hopefully my dream neolithic Pokémon game might be made.
I totally agree with you and ya i think that game freak was forced to rush this game if this game had at least 1 more year in oven then it would have been the best pokemon game but i am happy on what i got this time and hey maybe the gen 9 will meet our expectations they are giving it more time which is very nice but i really hate the fact that they sacrificed sinnoh remakes for this
I completely agree with like 95% of this review! Thank you for putting into words what I’ve been thinking. Great video, Ron.
I love how even he hates Melli
My heart broke when Volo betrayed us, he was acting sus at the end, but it still caught me off guard
I don't know how controversial an opinion this is:
My biggest problem is frankly the Agile/Strong Style system.
This game is my favorite Pokémon game till this day I hope Gen 9’s open world blows me away too.
Fakemon Idea!
Hisuian starters as hisuian variant;
Hisuian rowlet, Hisuian Dartrix, Hisuian Cyndaquil, Hisuian Quilava, Hisuian Oshawatt, and Hisuian dewott
Candice's ancestor is so angry because it heard all the bad 'what's this gym leader's name' jokes
Also when the Origin Palkia/Dialga theme goes into 5/4 and 3/4 oh my gosh
“I was completely surprised and embarrassed of my doubts when the villages theme evolved as it developed and slowly became Jubalife city’s theme by the end”
Hmm.. a town’s musical theme slowly growing in complexity as time progresses and the area develops and becomes more populated..
