In 1995 I was 15 and I had been playing guitar for a little over a year. My friend and I did a cover of this song for our high school talent show. I can still remember the cheers and applause erupting when I strummed that last time to finish the song. I felt like a rock star 😎. This was the first song that I learned an alternate tuning. I figured it out myself. No TH-cam to help in those days. It played a big part in developing my ear in those early days and I'm so grateful for this song putting me on that path. Name will forever be special to me.
Nothing to do with the performance. Judges and audience alike immediately recognized your talent and patience in figuring out how the hell you are supposed to tune for this song.
Goo goo dolls music got me through some tough times when I was younger. I’m so impressed to see Johnny still totally has it, he can still sing awesome!
This tour was amazing. I saw them a month later in Saratoga NY, Blue October killed it and then GGD was the cherry on top. Even if the SPAC speakers got fucked up during their encore, and I'm pretty sure the venue still didn't replace them last year. :P
One of two of my favorite songs from these guys......Black Balloon is the other one. Been listening to these dudes since 95 and they still turn it out. Amazing!!!
Nostalgia has that effect. I remember this saying, maybe it'll hit you the way it resonated in me. "I wish there was a way to know you were in the 'good ole days', before you've actually left them". -Andy Bernard (Wise Man)
Detective Marty Hart : You know the good years when you're in them, or you just wait for them until you get ass cancer and realize that the good years came and went." True Detective season 1
Holy crap! He still sounds great even after all these years! I saw them in 2002 and he sounds no different. He looks different but sounds excellent! 👍👌
@@frogbones1968 hahaha No yea I agree, what I meant is that I think he's had some "Work" done. Doesn't look horrible but something is off. Might be the nose???
He wrote this song for his mother who was dying of cancer ....in the music video the woman in the dress who's alone..... searching for something... someone.... it's supposed to represent her
Johnny has always had such an amazing voice…great to see that it’s holding up well even after the long break. This is a beautiful song and a great performance.
"Thank you for remembering that"... WHAT?!?! That song is one of the iconic songs of my teenage years. Even as an adult, I hear it and it just takes me to a place of calm. Amazing song. Love them.
Robbie looking out at the audience in appreciation, knowing as an older guy it could be over at anytime because you never know.... You just appreciate it more as you get older.
In 2007 in Myrtle Beach South Carolina at the House of blues. I was lucky enough to spend some backstage time with the band and I think probably one of the most influential times of my life. As a stage hand traveling the country setting up different shows they were just different in a very good way. Changed my life forever and I thank them so very much.
Idk man, it just takes me back to a better time. Simpler. We saw train and blues traveler at bend at this stadium. Thank you all for the music and memories. I love you.
Johnny is one of the best most compelling guy's out there. I got to see him in a small Casino. I think it was Reno. He was a crack up. Maybe I'll get another chance one day but I don't see any date's near me and I don't travel well.
Grew in w n y remember seeing them way before fame awesome guys and still humble if u saw them on the street you would never know they were famous. Robbie still does a lot of good for music in Buffalo I love their music
Was there. It was amazing. The city Bend where I live has noise restrictions and makes them quit on weekdays at 9:30. They rushed through concert. Sure wish they played more of old stuff.
I saw them perform just few days ago here in Portland Or , At McMebamins Edgefield 7/24/2022 . This dude never age, he still look like he was 20 years ago looking smooth and sexy 😁
Lovee that mellow nostalgic flashback vibe! Good magical music not like today's crap!! Blessings to everybody out there struggling and fighting to make it true the day! Stay strong you got this...
I get to see them August 31st, I am gonna hold up a sign that says will you let me play name or Iris on your guitar! Just to see if hell let me. It is going to be my first concert!

AWESOME
@@jimayers7461 yes it's bye your ear
This song is the definition of timeless. It never gets old to me.
I agree, 100%!
Perfect way to describe this song. Think I was 9 years old when I first heard it and it was one of those core memories.
Dude, Johnny’s voice has held up *unbelievably* over the years. This might be the best I’ve ever heard him sound…
Couldn’t agree more…
Wish he hadn’t effed up his face though…men never need plastic surgery.
It’s dumb in general, but even moreso for a dude.
I agree. This version is way better than the hit way back in the day.
its gotten much better
Agrees. It hits home ❤
I like the old one, but glad he can still lay it down ❤
All these years along and his voice is still so flawless, wow!!! Amazing performance!!!
His face isn't. He has had as much bad plastic surgery as Michael Jackson 😳.
@@davidportnoy3237 yes! So none!
@@davidportnoy3237 But how he looks doesn't change the music. He sounds amazing.
@@leejames6800 I don't remember saying anything about his sound 🤔.
@@davidportnoy3237 No, you were just being rude about how he looks. Why even bring it up? I know I don't look as good now as I did 25 years ago.
Love the goo goo dolls!....
Bend, Oregon. My home sweet home.
He still has that remarkable tone in his voice that he had back in the day, love it and brings back the vibe
Man this song takes me back to a simpler time. Sounds just like I remember it. Love how appreciative he is too. Amazing.
Such a different and great era
👍❤
I remember it was the best

They haven’t missed a beat! Glad to see them touring again. Robby sounds amazing as ever. Timeless!!!
This is such a wonderful day song
The band gets old. But the song is getting younger and younger. Timeless...
Back when music had heart and made you feel something.

There’s alot of what you’re talking bout out there, it’s just way out there like hidden away gets zero promotion. All by design.
@@mattysee24 That’s one of the best quotes I’ve ever heard in a TV show.

props to the camera man, phenomenal stabilization as well as audio
This song has one of the best Melodie’s of all their hits. Johnny still sounds pretty damn good.
Robbie looking out at the audience in appreciation, knowing as an older guy it could be over at anytime because you never know.... You just appreciate it more as you get older.
This will never be “a tired song (that) keeps playing on a tired radio.” Timeless classic that adapts. ❤️
Um, how does this only have. ONE "like" and ONE "reply", both of which are from me?!
❤❤❤
@@Bernacide Thank you, but I don't care about the likes. Just appreciating a '90s classic.
exquisite performance Johnny even after all these years..💯 💯 💯
How is it that after all these years Jonny sounds better? Fucking amazing! Timeless song...
It's like Johnny is on music / voice steroids or something that helps him sing and sound so good still. Of course im kidding.
I never ever get sick of their music
This is one of the most beautiful performances I've ever seen. Thanks so much for making this video available for us to see. ❤
Saw them backing up The Stone's on the No Security Tour 1999 Hartford Civic Center. 23 years later Johnny Rzeznik still sounds great.
These guys had a hard road starting out. They still sound great 👍
I was there! And, uh-maxing! Saw them in Troutdale the following weekend 😂
So great to see and hear them in 2022!!!!! Finally, truly talented artists on live stages again! Please keep touring...we love you!

They are in my top 5 all-time favorite bands...they were fabulous when they played in Winnipeg, Canada, years ago. I hope they come back!
Should have even been bigger. Came out same time as Foo Fighters & were better. They probably went to Soft Rock for their fans taste !!! 💝
Idk man, it just takes me back to a better time. Simpler.
We saw train and blues traveler at bend at this stadium. Thank you all for the music and memories. I love you.
Couldn't smoke, it was an a outside stadium, Bryant and I found a way.

October 1995 just 27 back then but remember catching this on VH1 and MTV in the morning before work .
His voice man. Pure gold.
Truth is a whisper is my favorite. Please play it❤❤❤❤❤
I still can’t believe John Rzeznik’s voice still sounds like sooooo 1995! He really aged well and took care of himself…

The bro at the beginning yelling "I knew it, Name! I guessed it." had me dying...
So great how he honors the melody..
