    • @d-meth
      @d-meth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brodieroomojo yeah it's so messed up to have those "weird" vision issues
      Like when you can't use contacts because your glasses (or lenses) just "stop working" after a few hours because your eyes are fine but you just mess them up or "use them wrong" =/
      And your dad wasn't listening to the eye doctor when you were 12 and the dr said you NEED vision therapy or you'll mess up your eyes =/
      Dad thought that when you have issues with your eyes you get glasses, like he did so he stopped listening the moment the doc said "your kid doesn't need glasses but..." 😕😡😩😖
      Guess what?
      Vision therapy doesn't work on adults, even eay 20s young adults. But they'll happily sell you a few sessions that "might provide a benefit", they cost $200/h and come in packages of 10, you need at least 20.

    I got glasses in the third grade, and when was on my way home, I walked outside, and I was just amazed because there were individual branches and leaves. I don’t remember ever being able to see crisp sharp lines before then. I kept on just taking my glasses on and off, but I could never replicate the amazement of seeing defined lines for the first time! Then I got sick for the rest of the weekend because my eyes were trying to adjust.

      Yeah, most of these things you don't focus on get to this sort of subliminal level of your mind. You can quite easily compare that to background noise or listening to something vs. just being able to hear something. For example, you are on the phone with someone and technically you can hear other things like children playing in the backyard or cars passing by but unless it's something alarming you aren't listening to this, you're listening to the person you're having a conversation with.

I have trouble walking by a store selling beautiful dresses without pausing and taking in the visuals, letting myself feel a longing for specific items, i also love shopping for dresses online and wearing them. I love the idea of a dress that flows in the breeze or when you twirl the skirt blows up a bit in a pretty way. I just love how pretty certain color or design combinations can be. Different textured embellishments like embroidery vs sequins catch the light differently too. I just love it all.

      Yeah. I think there are too many colour names. Once you know the basic 5-6, you can get by with using adjectives like "light" or "dark" to distinguish them. If the colour is really important, than it's better to use the wavelength to describe it rather than a colour name.

    I love looking at large bodies of water like lakes. When the water is still, it is reflective and you can see a perfect replica of the far shore beneath it and upside down. It's especially beautiful at night when you see a full moon in the sky and a second full moon reflected in the water. Watching ripples moving through water is also fun and interesting, as is seeing the wind blowing the surface of the water causing it to move and shimmer in different ways. Lake water is usually a somewhat ugly brown color while ocean water is usually a dark blue in most places, but in some areas it's very light blue and clear enough that you can see dozens of feet down and see the corals and sea shells and all sorts of fun things beneath.

    I've been wearing glasses scine I was only 2 months old. I have a pretty bad case of Amblyopia. I'm legally blind in my left eye. I do have depth perception but it's not good. I'm always walking into walls cause I don't see them where they actually are. When I reach for something like my glass of water I actually move my hand close and then feel for it with my fingers and once then pick it up. I've reached for things before and missed. I can't see very far away. At the age of 36 my eyesight is decreasing. It's harder for me to read print. I just had to buy myself a new bible with giant print. I don't see well at night anymore.
    But some things I think are just beautiful to see...
    The Ocean/Beaches.
    The sunrise over the ocean.
    Okay just nature in general.

    The info overload is actually a very interesting concept.
    What we see is actually 0.1 later than when it happened. Our brain slows things down so we can process them. Otherwise, we would have a constant overload.

    A good sunset is spectacular. That's where the clouds are just in the right place. And the sun light hits them with the colors filtered through the atmosphere. You get the reds, oranges, yellows. the colors are constantly changing from one second to the next. And right after the sun goes down, and those colors begin to fade, there is a flash of pink that makes the sky look like it's filled cotton candy. Every night is unique, never to be repeated in the history of the universe.

    I love the way Molly asked how we manage to see things all day long without getting headaches. We never realise how amazing it is to see all these things, the colors, the lights. We forget to appreciate how beautiful is a flower or a butterfly because it's not important in our world or it has no value. But it's a privilege to feel, see and smell what the world has created!

    My husband is slowly going blind. He has macular degeneration, and at the moment he cannot really see details, unless he's super close on them, and he struggles with colors - part of macular degeneration is color blindness. Even so, he is one of the most amazing artists I've ever seen. He can draw huge architectural masterpieces that just... blow my mind. He has to be very close to the paper in order to see it, but his level of detail is mind-boggling when I remember that if I took the paper and placed it five feet away from him, it would look like a blurry, nondescript shape to him. He astounds me. While the fact that he is going blind does scare him, quite a lot, he refuses to give up the things he loves. I hope that, one day, if he goes fully blind, he will not stop with his art. I will help him figure out a way to keep doing what he loves to do.

    Another really cool thing is the stars. One time we went out to the country (I live in Australia) in the bush at night, and we turned off all our flash lights and when our eyes adjusted to the darkness we could literally see the Milky way. The universe of stars above us! There are so many stars! I probably can't see as many as a long sighted person can. On a normal night in the suburbs you can only see a couple, but out there you could see millions. You could never count them. Some are brighter than others. And it's amazing cause they're so much further away than we can even imagine. We could never reach them but we can see them clear enough to map which ones are which. And make up ancient stories about characters in the sky, based on the shape the stars make. Amazing.

    The most aesthetically beautiful thing to me is rain. Droplets on a window, on leaves, falling into a puddle and watching the way it continuously ripples outwards.
    Also, trees and leaves changing. Like little roads with trees on either side so big they bow together and make a tree-tunnel, with all different colored autumn leaves, some of them still summery, some already just branches and all wintery? That’s so beautiful.

    I think the one thing that always amazes me that I can see is heat. Like not steam, but being outside and it looks like just waves of heat. Sort of like looking through slightly warped glass. It always amazes me when I see that, and I'm sighted.

    • @ronanlevy9920
      @ronanlevy9920 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see that a lot because of the heat coming off a bog near me, but also since I'm as nearsighted as I am (almost legally blind without glasses and still nearsighted with them) it just confuses my eyes and sometimes makes me dizzy ;-; also before I got glasses I had no idea that what I was seeing was heat and not just the blurriness of my vision

    Talking about how far people can see... there's really literally no limit. We can see stars that are millions of light years away. As long as there's light coming into our eyes, we can see it no matter how far away it started.
