It's so funny that you didn't like the sandbox scenarios and preferred to had structured campaigns, because when I played RCT1 as a kid i literally didn't even REALIZE there were campaigns and objectives half of the time, bc I was too busy treating the entire thing like a sandbox.

The really insane thing is that the OG RCT games _were programmed mostly in x86 assembly._ Chris Sawyer apparently has said that about 99% of the original game was written in assembly, with only about 1% written in C (which is probably for things like interfacing with Windows, driver integration, etc...) That means that they were _hard coded_ to run on PC architecture. This is how the game is able to run so well even on potato computers: it is coded basically at the bare silicon level. Translating this kind of code from one architecture to another usually requires _a total_ overhaul of basically everything. In most programming languages like C, you can generally re-compile large parts of the code by using diffferent API's, settings, or just a different compiler altogether. It's _still_ usually a lot of work to do unless you set out from the get-go for the code to be multi-platform (and even then it's _still_ more work), but it's generally still simpler. But with assembly _this is not an option._ This is because a compuler _basically_ works by taking your code and generating assembly/ machine code for whatever system you are going to run it on. But if you _start out_ by writing the machine code directly... well, then you don't have any code _to_ compile! This means that Chris Sawyer and his team either had to _completely_ re-write _huge_ chunks of the original game for a _completely different architecture_ or that they had to re-write the game in another language like C++ or Rust (or maybe they made it in a game engine like Unity or something else). I think that the latter is _probably_ the way they went. Modern compilers are a _lot_ more efficient and even relatively old smart phones are _way_ more powerful than most desktop PC's from the 90's. The reason why you would generally choose to write something in assembly is because you need it to run _very_ fast and/ or you need it to take less storage and memory space. Modern systems don't require this level of efficiency to run a game like Roller Coaster Tycoon, so it's unlikely that they would have gone to all the trouble of not only making major overhauls to the original assembly code for the remaster, but also writing a completely new game for mobile architectures (and if this runs on iOS, too, that would have been _TWO_ more versions to code). But STILL. This means that it's extremely unlikely that this remaster was _at all_ quick and easy. This required _an insane_ amount of work from what was likely a very small team. At the bare minimum, they _probably_ had to re-write the game _in its entirety_ from scratch in something like C++, C#, Rust, etc... _(MAYBE_ Java, but I seriously doubt it) and then go to the trouble of also porting it over to mobile platforms. Chris Sawyer is _no joke_ when it comes to his compsci. Assembly is _fucking difficult._ (Turns out I was right about how the remaster was done: qr.ae/pvO7Vf ) Also, reference Chris Sawyer's website where he talks a little about the development for the OG game (and confirms my suspicion about the bits that were written in C; namely to talk to Windows and for DirectX): www.chrissawyergames.com/faq3.htm
I would have to disagree; OpenRCT2 still has the glaring issue of RCT2 parks ordered alphabetically instead of by difficulty level. Not to mention, you have to cheat RCT2 elements into RCT1 scenarios. They licked both problems in RCT Classic, by the sound of it.

Came here to reminisce after remembering this gem of a game after not playing for like 20 years. My siblings and I were pure evil when we used to play this game as kids. I remember renaming guests as family members or cousins we didn't like. So eventually, you'd get like a little prompt saying something like "Johnny" has fallen ill due to not being able to get off a ride. I remember there was a way into tricking the game into deleting half of a rollercoaster while the guests were in the middle of riding the track, and you'd have this pit of fire at the end of the tracks that you had just deleted. Once the guests on the roller coaster would inevitably fall to their doom it would come up with a death message for the renamed guests, namely "Johnny" has been killed while riding "Torture Terror". You'd kind of make the worst park possible for fun, I'd make guests pay exorbitant prices just to go to the toilet 😂
I played RCT classic again a few years ago and RCT classic in feb. I just finished all 95 scenarios last night and loved it! I actually preferred the scenario layout of this one more
Funny that I gravitated to rct2 more for the wide open spaces and the ability to try to replicate coasters and parks from real parks like Six Flags. It’s only now that I started playing the old “small parks” because of the creative challenge of fitting good rides into them
the one thing I love about the classic is that they legit made it so you can play it on your iPad... which is amazing. I really wish they did this more with older games because we all know our tablets and phones can totally handle them. But I have to admit, one downside is the fact that I couldn't necessarily have EVERYTHING unlocked in a sandbox park. pathways, dirt textures, and water textures were missing. I was used to playing my RCT back in the day with a "trainer" that basically hacked the game and made everything unlocked. Cant really do this with this version. Something about how the game can't do it for whatever logistical reason. Same thing I think happens with planet coaster. I guess its a graphics processing limitation of these types of games. I'm not a fan but... I guess it is what it is.
To me, where RCT:Classic shines the most is on mobile, as it finally allows people to play an ACTUAL Rollercoaster Tycoon game on the go. While OpenRCT2 DOES have Android builds I'd imagine (having not played it on Android) that the UI would get in the way a bit, whereas parts of Classic's UI were clearly built with mobile in mind.
Not gonna lie, when it first released, not only did I expect it to be just a re-packaging of RCT and RCT2, I assumed it was Atari looking for another cash grab with the IP they "kNoW wHaT tHeY'rE dOInG wItH". I was sorely mistaken. Knowing that it's in the capable hands of its creator, I have a lot more faith in it, and seeing just how much was done to and with it, and how much the features of both games have been intertwined, it honestly makes me wanna grab it; I have RCT Deluxe and RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack from GOG, used in conjunction with OpenRCT2, but this is a whole 'nother animal. One that I'd be happy to have in my collection. Now, if only there was a physical release...I'd be in RCT hog heaven.
I came here because I just bought the RTC classic on the steam sale thinking, why not have a blast through my childhood. And like you, was very confused as I opened it up and recognised nothing. But sounds like I really need to give it a fair crack. Thanks!
I completely forgot about this game but absolutely loved 1 and 2. Someone reminded me about this, I looked at Google Play's apps and was immediately clueless and overwhelmed. You sorted everything out and made me excited to get into it again! Thank youuu!!!
This brought back so many memories. All the little songs and jingles lead to an explosion of memories of the thousands of hours I spent on this game! I personally preferred RCT2 because of it's modular building pieces (a precursor to Planco) that wasn't in RCT1. One question though... will our old saves work with this new version? Excited to see the streams.. been saving up those Ch5 points
I can’t emphasize enough how underestimated this remaster actually is. It’s pretty much as perfect as you can possibly get for a vanilla RCT1 and 2 experience, and on top of that, modded scenery items and rides are even fully compatible with it from sites like NEDesigns. (Although not the parks themselves since most over there aren’t retained in a square, still can download custom parks from sites like RCTGo though) And it all works on mobile, modded stuff included, even on an iPad! *That’s freaking amazing!* Yeah there are some very small omissions from RCT1 like the spinning cars for the junior coaster, but honestly, that doesn’t even matter anymore when you can (probably) just add them in as it’s own coaster type anyways. Literally the only things that are holding it back from being absolute perfection in every sense is not just that, but also online multiplayer and more cheat options like what OpenRCT2 has, so there’s no real reason to get Classic over OpenRCT2 if you have a PC when it takes all of its best elements and adds more. But if you’re like me and don’t own a PC or can’t afford one, then I *highly* recommend buying this, all of the expansions included. I also recommend buying RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition on the Nintendo Switch as well, since that’s a close to perfect port as well, only omission there being stuff like copying over saved parks, which is understandable since the Nintendo Switch just simply does not have the same internet functionalities as even your typical mobile devices at all, as the Nintendo Switch doesn’t even let you use its own browser unless you actively try and hack your way into it. But other than that, it’s also another official port/remaster that is as perfect as it gets. I *would* complain about there being no Planet Coaster Switch port yet since Jurassic World Evolution is on there, but it is at least on the other PlayStation and Xbox systems, so I can’t say I have no way to play it in the first place, even if I’d much prefer it to be on Switch as well since it’s portable and all that, but I’m sure it would probably happen eventually anyways given enough time, and I’m sure RCT3 Complete Edition is a current substitute for that since the only console it is on is indeed the Switch, and nothing else at the moment, so once Planet Coaster comes to Switch, they might do the reverse and put RCT3 Complete Edition on other consoles, or at least that’s the idea *I’m* getting from it. I suppose it would also be nice to have RCT Classic on consoles? But I feel as if that’s even more pointless since it would take away some functionality of its longevity and the fact that Atari is the type of company that is too lazy to remap everything for it to work on console anyways without a mouse or touch screen, and even if they could, they likely wouldn’t want to regardless since they have tried to hide this game so much in the dark and promoting every other garbage thing over it, and that’s because they want little to do with the original games and because they will still make them insane amounts of money, so really the only reason why Classic even exists in the first place is because of desperation in needing to get more money. Had they been in a position like Nintendo, then they never would’ve made something like this, let alone even rerelease it, much like how they like to ignore their own AAA properties like F-Zero and Mother, and it was only up until very recently that they started to acknowledge Metroid again. I guess they also have Paper Mario still too, but it’s so far removed from the first two or even three games to the point where it no longer has its same appeal, so I consider that franchise to be dead too. They have other dead franchises like Kid Icarus and Chibi-Robo as well, but my point is that the only reason why Infogrames- I- I mean “Atari” even holds onto the RCT license in the first place is because of its brand name only, and not because they want to make anymore good games or willing to go back on the few past good ones, or even appreciate its own legacy from their own games, because if they did then RCT World would’ve been fixed by now, but they instead choose to ignore it even existed, despite still being the only other mainline RCT game in name since RCT3. It’s pretty much being treated like how FIFA is to EA, just expendable pieces of shovelware intended for the uninformed and non-caring or brain dead masses with too much money to spare. Video games are no different than a form of entrainment like film or television, and it’s craft should be taken seriously, because regardless if people think video games are a form of art or not, it’s still a thing that we cherish in our free times away from the mundanity of reality. A bad game that sells lots of money in the short term is forever bad, but a good game that initially sold poorly and becomes a cult classic straight away even up to now is forever a good game that will be cherished and asked for more for generations. *Geez I typed a huge mountain of text. I doubt anyone is even gonna read this. Lol*
I have both versions, all I miss is the unlock all parks cheat that used to come with the OG PC disk version lol I did like the bigger font and the extra zoom in the classic version, easier to see everything.
To me, the best part of Classic was the much coveted Tycoon Park. As a reward for completing all scenarios, you get that park as a reward. It's jampacked with rides, guests, shops and all, in a huge map. I couldn't resist importing that gem on my Openrct2 version on PC. This was too good to pass up.
RCT Classic is ideal to play on Android/iOS. Its user interface doesn't really suit well on PC. Still a great remaster either way. And as for the renamed parks, I think those are just the names of the European version of RCT1. RCT1's scenario names and some ride names were different between the European and American releases
I think it actualité was re-adapted first with this intention (this explains the New campaign mode, fast forwarding...) Surprised this vidéo doesnt mention mobile at all or did some digging on kt
Just got classic a few months ago and I've been loving it. I currently can't access my current plc saves so I'm using classic to get my coaster building fix
This video is so underrated! My god! Ty for all the indepth info S2 Not only about Deluxe and Classic, but about the improvments and comparison to RTC1 and 2 great and weak points!
best part is the mobile compatibility, makes driving passenger to jobsites great. its a bit crashy on my galaxy A10(the crappy version of the galaxy) but the autosave is intense enough that i usually only lose like 4 track segments on a crash. the only real issue i see on mobile is terraforming anything other than a square, its technically possible but im not about to make a mountain 1 slanted square at a time.
I'm still baffled no one has made a new pixel roller coaster game that carries the torch from these classic games. The new 3D versions might be fun but they never piqued my interest.
Thanks for this vid! Just bought rct 1 deluxe, rct 2 triple thrill, and rct 3 platinum on GOG. So cheap and worth. Feeling nostalgic! Also, got OpenRCT2 which is a mod that adds QoL and some modern features to RCT2 and lets you combine rct2 and rct1 into one game as long as you own both. Also increase FPS to modern speeds at higher resolution. I recommend this for anyone who has both games and plans to go back to play them. Fav feature of the mod is being able to speed up time. Useful for when you finish the scenario requirements and are just waiting for the time limit to end. Also good for not having to sit around waiting for money to come in so you can build more.
You should have mentioned OpenRCT2. And that you can play RCT1 scenarios in OpenRCT2, and in normal RCT2 if you download the ported maps. There is also a widescreen patch for RCT1 and 2, if you do not want to not want to play OpenRCT. But otherwise, thanks for making this comparison video. :)
The Mobile port of this is also very solid. Been playing it alot recently on my iPad. Recommend it if you want to sit on your couch watching some reruns and playing some RCT.
I never found the classic remaster to be that great. My park guests would walk around on fast forward speed and I had less control over my park. The overall experience was poor at 4k. The old rct1 is still my favorite despite the 4:3 ratio.
Ok thank you for this explanation. I was so confused when I made this purchase. But what version was the 3 zones that included Arabian nights and the polar zone that only open after you complete the challenges. I want that version!
People in the comments argue that OpenRCT2 is better. Possibly, that doesn't change the fact that RCT Deluxe is a mobile port which functions super well on PC. I bought it and played through 40 parks before I realized it's a mobile port. (Thought the different UI is just for accessability)
The thing I do not like is that it requires newer hardwear even today. When it was released, you needed a gaming pc top of the line. My computer is 5 years old and can't run it mind you it's a laptop
They should have made it if you didn't have bathrooms the guests crap themselves and it makes a fart noise then they get angry and vandalize stuff leaving a brown trail xD
You are wrong. The game was released in the UK first, and the park was "Dinky". It was renamed to "Pokey" for the US version that was released later. Do your research first before making wrong statements.
yo the coaster at 7:13. Timber Terror, have you ever been to silverwood?

With RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe being my favorite game of all time I really enjoyed RCT Classic, it mixes it up just enough and the added RCT 2 features in RCT 1 scenarios is a lot of fun. Deluxe is still my favorite version but this is a close second. I prefer both of these over the rather mediocre OpenRCT2.
I agree PLUS the best thing about Classic BESIDES RCT 2 features in RCT 1 scenarios, is that the research feature add rides, shops and scenery that you CANT research in the original game, like you can get the Circus WHICH was introduced in Added Attractions/Corkscrew Follies in Dynamite Dunes scenario or the Spiral Coaster, WHICH was introduced in RCT 2 in Diamond Heights.
8:30 for me exact visa versa, tho im willing to admit for several reasons that the rct 1 campaigns were better structured tho w.e ive always had the whole lot; rct 1 levels on 2 deluxe with the expansions + w.e openrct content , microblocks oa. i dont need that leading hand although ill always emjoy a forrest frontiers, leafy lake or crazy castle as an option to pick and chose
How are the guests in this remaster? They're really wonky in their interactions and pathing all the way throughout rct2. Do guests still get stuck and lost in the silliest ways?
The classic(REMASTER) has a bug that no one discover and solve it, you can't put a price for the entrance of your park. That's kind of sucks. I'm choosing the RCTD because of that.
That's not a bug. That's an RCT2 thing that is in in RCT Classic. In RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, scenarios would only have the park entrance price adjustable or the ride price adjustable. You couldn't do both in RCT2. In RCT1, you can adjust prices for both entrances and rides but I wouldn't recommend that since you would have to make ride prices a lot cheaper if you set an entrance price if you want guests to ride them.
The only thing I don't like about the new version is you cannot make mountains in the part where you can make your own scenarios you cannot make mountains or at least I don't know how to make them I try to do it the old fashioned way but it doesn't work
Late response, but you can actually make mountains in scenario creation. You just have to go to options and enable touch screen functionality, that will let you create mountains.
@@grady968 It's an open version of RCT2 that has a lot of added things that make it a more modern game and improves the game a lot. I recommend looking for it, I think it required you to have the original RCT2 games, which is on steam and for super cheap and you are able to add everything that RCT1 has to offer too if you also own that, and again it is available on steam for cheap.
Pokey Park is the European name of Dinky Park while Dinky Park is the American name. All RCT1 scenarios in RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic are using the original European names of RCT1 (RCT1 was first released in Europe). The American version of RCT1 renamed some parks/rides.
Judging by steam statistics - Very positive (1,862) . This is of absolutely no interest to anyone. As a fan of the original game, the new interface for mobile phones bothers me. Out of respect for the audience, the developers could add a feature to enable the classic interface.
If the game didn't have that ugly UI, especially on the main menu (in-game is okay overall), it would really be a no-brainer for all the features + the RCT1 and 2 combination. Strange choice.
I don't wanna be hard on rct classic cause I think for mobile it is a nice edition but for pc it's pretty blah. I mean if sombody really likes rct I can't see any reason to buy this over just getting open rct2 for the version of the game they probable already own.
I think that this review is severely lacking because you don't compare either game to OpenRCT, which sounds like it's _basically_ somewhere in the middle of these two versions. It fixes a lot of bugs and brings a lot of QOL improvements to the classic games without modifying anything _too_ much.

OpenRCT2 has gotten me back into playing RCT and it's great. Ya should definetely do a comparison of RCT Classic vs OpenRCT2 :3
That's just what I was thinking... about the naming and the released date December 22, 2016
American names / Uk or classic
Aqua Park / White Water Park
Scrambled Eggs / Twist
Whoa Belly / Launched Freefall
Rct, pivot stick figure, HP chamber of secrets and Cultures 2: gates of Asgard were all games of my childhood!
Absolutely favorite computer game of all time hands down
Just got classic a few months ago and I've been loving it. I currently can't access my current plc saves so I'm using classic to get my coaster building fix
This video is so underrated! My god! Ty for all the indepth info S2 Not only about Deluxe and Classic, but about the improvments and comparison to RTC1 and 2 great and weak points!
Wasn't sure of the difference, thanks for explaining clearly and getting me pumped for RCT Classic!
best part is the mobile compatibility, makes driving passenger to jobsites great. its a bit crashy on my galaxy A10(the crappy version of the galaxy) but the autosave is intense enough that i usually only lose like 4 track segments on a crash. the only real issue i see on mobile is terraforming anything other than a square, its technically possible but im not about to make a mountain 1 slanted square at a time.
Loved the d2r shoutout, that was a perfect remaster.
This sounds a lot like the age of empires remake. The quality of life improvements alone make it the better version.
I feel the same about the RCT 2 bro!! Also, I never had that feelings again with others games!!
Thank you for the video. Was looking to pop in my old RTC cd and relive my childhood but will probably opt for the classic version.
The Mobile port of this is also very solid. Been playing it alot recently on my iPad. Recommend it if you want to sit on your couch watching some reruns and playing some RCT.
YAYAYAY!!! Awesome !
I never advertise campaign in any of my parks because it makes my gameplay too easy. I always wanna be challenged
Awesome
Thank you for comparing these two.
Thanks for the review, I played the first rct game I really liked it I loved that game.
I never found the classic remaster to be that great. My park guests would walk around on fast forward speed and I had less control over my park. The overall experience was poor at 4k. The old rct1 is still my favorite despite the 4:3 ratio.
Great video! I can’t believe I’ve never played this game. It looks incredible! I think I found my next huge time sink haha.
Man, this VS was a blast. i didnt know this details about it ;). Thank you a lot for this. one of the best memories.
Ok thank you for this explanation. I was so confused when I made this purchase. But what version was the 3 zones that included Arabian nights and the polar zone that only open after you complete the challenges. I want that version!
interesting. But there should be an Option to change the ui to the Original style
Yeah ok... But RCT2 allows you to install OpenRCT2 wich is THE BEST RCT experience
Agreed! I wish it was a thing for mobile online too
@@xxD3Vxx it is on mobile but you need also OpenRCT2 files
What is OpenRCT2?
Awesome review and very insightful!
I love it! always!Wwhen i am watching your Video im nearly tried to grab my mouse and control "your" mousepointer....lol
Great video!
Yo this is such a good video. Comprehensive, very detailed... I love it.
Thanks!!
Did they make some changes to how stats are calculated for coasters and stuff? Any changes to the scenario goals?
They should have made it if you didn't have bathrooms the guests crap themselves and it makes a fart noise then they get angry and vandalize stuff leaving a brown trail xD
I have been off the game for years. Only just started and i cannot remember how to build stairs continuous without digging.
It was so simple in rct2
Figured it out by trying & trying...
got the deluxe, love playin it.
"Pokey Park" was always called "Pokey Park". It was only renamed to "Dinky Park" in foreign copies of the game.
You are wrong. The game was released in the UK first, and the park was "Dinky". It was renamed to "Pokey" for the US version that was released later. Do your research first before making wrong statements.
What about OpenRCT2 vs RCTC? Just wondering considering OpenRCT2 has graphical options that base RCT2 doesn't, how do they stack up to Classic?
Great video.
Ty for ur video rly useful
yo the coaster at 7:13.
I played and beat all scenarios, but one, on RCT Classic on my iPhone.
I never bought it on pc because I have OpenRCT2
8:30 for me exact visa versa, tho im willing to admit for several reasons that the rct 1 campaigns were better structured tho w.e ive always had the whole lot; rct 1 levels on 2 deluxe with the expansions + w.e openrct content , microblocks oa. i dont need that leading hand although ill always emjoy a forrest frontiers, leafy lake or crazy castle as an option to pick and chose
How are the guests in this remaster? They're really wonky in their interactions and pathing all the way throughout rct2. Do guests still get stuck and lost in the silliest ways?
Is there a way to transfer saves from RCT Deluxe to RCT Classic?
Wow good
still a great buy on steam!
Does it have all the rct2 rides
@@ThunderDragonRandy Agreed !
Still.... I can't adjust entrance price, that is what a notice only.
Same! I was just about to say that. It’s a small thing but it’s something that I need for my greedy self
This may be a a dumb question, but is there a way to load your old Deluxe saves on the Classic version so you're not starting it all over again?
I paid for classic on my phone and then they stopped doing updates and released it again on mobile forcing ppl to buy the new version for updates
Can you get RCT3 Complete Edition and review it as well?
The only thing I don't like about the new version is you cannot make mountains in the part where you can make your own scenarios you cannot make mountains or at least I don't know how to make them I try to do it the old fashioned way but it doesn't work
Yep! Kinda sucks. What I do is create a landscape in RCT2 then incorporate it into Classic.
Late response, but you can actually make mountains in scenario creation. You just have to go to options and enable touch screen functionality, that will let you create mountains.
OpenRCT2. Why are you all still on vanilla and classic ?!
Is it balanced non payment on mobile but bad graphics or payment on pc but insane graphics
The android version is good too
maybe i´m the only one but for me the original looks better with better graphics then rct classic
campaigns champagnes, whatever , megaparks ans freeflow
Its hard to know which game ur talking abt
im sry but this game wasnt ment to b played on the phone. also y not just get open RCT2?
We all know OpenRCT is the best version of the games
What's that? Never heard of it.
Rct deluxe gang!
Why on earth did they rename Dinky Park? What a stupid change.
Pokey Park is the European name of Dinky Park while Dinky Park is the American name. All RCT1 scenarios in RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic are using the original European names of RCT1 (RCT1 was first released in Europe). The American version of RCT1 renamed some parks/rides.
oh boy......
Judging by steam statistics -
Very positive (1,862) . This is of absolutely no interest to anyone. As a fan of the original game, the new interface for mobile phones bothers me. Out of respect for the audience, the developers could add a feature to enable the classic interface.
I had to refund RCT1 because the ergonomics sucked for modern gaming. Like I couldn't even move my camera with WASD it had to be the arrow keys 😂😂😂😂
anyone has download link???
If the game didn't have that ugly UI, especially on the main menu (in-game is okay overall), it would really be a no-brainer for all the features + the RCT1 and 2 combination. Strange choice.
I don't wanna be hard on rct classic cause I think for mobile it is a nice edition but for pc it's pretty blah. I mean if sombody really likes rct I can't see any reason to buy this over just getting open rct2 for the version of the game they probable already own.
It's too crowded here
I only got on eproblem with rct classic: I cant fond the eye to unsee scenery and people
openrct cough cough :D
OpenRCT beats both by miles.
OpenRCT only includes 2 though?
@@Channel5Gaming No, it also features all the scenarios from Rct1 as well. I think in order to play it you need a copy of Rct2 though.
@@Channel5Gaming You can play RCT 1 levels if you own it. you can also change the Interface and loading screen to RCT 1 as well
@@Channel5Gaming You can also link RCT1 scenarios in OpenRCT2.
I think that this review is severely lacking because you don't compare either game to OpenRCT, which sounds like it's _basically_ somewhere in the middle of these two versions. It fixes a lot of bugs and brings a lot of QOL improvements to the classic games without modifying anything _too_ much.
Planet coaster is better
