    looking forward to the rest of that repair.
    I'm in the same boat with a little more of a hit and this was very helpful to see the process how to address the issue!

    What putty do you use?

    Were there any concerns about water in the hull? I've got a similar repair on the same ski (more in a flat area, less close to the chine, but very similar). But there is water seeping out of mine when I press my finger on the damage. Water is coming from inside the de-lamination maybe? I'll gently start dremeling away at the de-lamination and see how deep it goes (Seadoo has a double hull design so I can't visually inspect the interior for water or damage :-( .

      There were not. We had water coming out of the damaged area and the inner composite area seemed to be intact. In part 2 where we Gel coated the hull, while sanding we found a few more spots of damage and repaired them the same way. After the repairs and gel coat there was no further water getting into the haul. I would assume if there was damage to the inner hull, when building a base for the repair with the fiberglass impregnated bondo, any damage to the inner hull would become watertight

    Could you use a export resin Instead of the bondo glass for the cloth to stick to

    • @MikeT
      @MikeT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I really have no clue what export resin is.

    How long do you let it set/cure when you added bondoglass before adding the glass sheets?

    • @MikeT
      @MikeT  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how much hardener you use and how much you mix it. It cures pretty quick and in some cases can be cured enough to sand in 20 minutes

    I have a question about a repair I need to do on my jetski if you don't mind. I have a 97 seadoo xp that I traded some rc car stuff for and when I got it home realized it was in a little bit rougher shape than I thought. Anyway around the front bumper where the two hulls are riveted together a couple of the rivets completely broke out the fiberglass so I was wondering how I should go about patching that up so I can drill new holes through and re-rivet it back together. Thank you

      I guess it would depend on how damaged the holes are. Are you able to open and clean up the hole and use the next size up rivet? If not, we use some 2 part stuff called Hysol on aircraft when we have issues like that and need to fill and re drill holes on a composite piece. It takes forever to cure but when it does, it's the same strength as metal.

      @MikeT it's hard to explain but the 2 holes that connect the front bumper are completely drilled out so the hole is now a horseshoe like it was drilled out. Gonna need to form some fiberglass to fill the gap of the whole and I'm just not sure how to begin lol. Wish I could show you a picture

    One more question do you have to sand all the gel coat off to bare fiberglass before the repair or can you just ruff it up

    • @MikeT
      @MikeT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it will bond best to bare fiberglass

    How would you start if it was a hole all the way through?

    • @MikeT
      @MikeT  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Either start on the inside and put a few layers of fiberglass cloth down or bond a thin piece of sheet metal to the inside and the build the repair off of that from the outside the same as shown in the video
