I've been using this recipe for the last 4 years and it always turns out perfect. I always make it a couple days after making my smoked whole chickens and have leftovers. It's probably my second most requested recipe after brisket. I use your crust recipe for all my pies. Thank You Crouton !!!!!!

Mines in the oven now. I know it's going to be delish because I taste tested the gravy after pouring it into the crust. Thanks so much!! This is my first attempt at a homemade pot pie! UPDATE: It's the bomb! Definitely a keeper and will be making time and time again!!

Wow this was delicious! I havent eaten pot pie since i was about 5 years old. So I tried this recipe. I did have to add more seasoning to the broth than what was specified to satisfy my taste. The crust was extraordinary. And honestly, that was the most difficult part for me. Shapping it and getting it to become doughy made it "difficult". But wow the crust was the best part. My family really enjoyed it as well. Thanks for this.

I made this last night. It was delicious! I added an additional 1 and a half teaspoons of salt and an additional teaspoon of garlic powder. I used half a cup of heavy cream and half a cup of half and half. I had fresh carrots that I boiled with the potatoes and I added corn. I used a premade pie crust. My husband loved it! Thank you!

I've made this recipe over 1/2 dozen times and it gets better and better! Usually make up a double batch of gravy and freeze 1/2 to have ready if company drops by. Adding cream of chicken or cream of celery soup adds a little more depth for my taste. Thanks for sharing!

I made this last night and it was AMAZING! The gravy was spot on! The only changes I made were- all butter crust (didn’t have shortening on hand) and I also added a bit more of the seasoned salt to the gravy since I like it a bit more savory. Everything else I followed, and it was delicious. I baked for an hour in two 6” x 2” round cake pans, and this recipe halved out perfectly. Wish I could post a picture! It was a hit for me and my fiancé who requested the dish 😊 Thank you!

Thank you so much for this recipe. I've made it 3 times (cheated with store bought refrigerator pie dough) and everyone loved it. I especially like the way you show how to roll the pie crust edge up and over to seal the juices in. Plus finger crimping the edges and brushing the top with egg wash makes it so pretty.

After I removed the chicken from my smoker, (smoked at 225 degrees using apple wood chips), I knew that I had to try your recipe... OUTSTANDING! Thanks for sharing this.

Lots of great tips. I love making chicken pot pie, but my crust doesn't brown (I actually turn on my broiler for a minute to get it to brown), so I'll try the egg wash! Also, never thought to use the frozen carrot pieces. Celery is really good. Next time, add that with your onion. Cheers!

Love your style of "teaching" I have never made chicken pot pie, however after seeing how easy it is I am going to try out your recipe. One thing my mom always did to ensure a smooth gravy, she would take a bit of milk or water and add it to the flour/thickening agent and stir until smooth before adding it to the pan. It's funny what you learn just by watching your mom and grandma cook. I was always under foot, watching and taking it all in. Thanks for sharing your recipes and passion for cooking!

    • @Jan-qq9xc
      @Jan-qq9xc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Im guessing she probably did that because she was adding flour to a liquid, stew or something and it would be difficult to get the lumps out. He is adding it to butter so he can stir it and get lumps out quite easily. He then cooks it for a minute or so to get rid of the flour taste.

It's a delicious pot pie recipe. I used a glass pie plate and it browned to perfection top crust and bottom crust in 45 minutes. The only thing I did was add 1 1/2 tablespoons of seasoned salt. and I love that there is enough filling for 2 pies. I made one for dinner and saved the rest of the filling for the next day along with the pie crust, then rolled it all out and cooked another pie the next day. My family devoured it. Thanks for the great recipe! :)

This is in the oven now. Thanks for the recipe. Instead of milk I used a pint of heavy cream, fresh carrots and celery. I also used a leg quarter from my fav BBQ spot. The base is delicious. Can’t wait for it to come out the oven. I actually had enough for a second pie. Oh and his seasoning salt recipe is nothing, but Lawry’s Adobe w/Pepper seasoning which is cheaper to create yourself if you already have each of the seasonings as listed in the recipe above.

    Dear Person :)
I just made this Pie today - and I am shocked.
I have never - ever - EVER!!! Eaten anything so comforting and delicious before in my life. I have nothing but Madame Curie's to compare to it but a life time of being foodie - helps to be able to judge the comforting level of comfort food lol
It was so much fun to prepare - I did add also some celery to the chopped onions and that added another layer of crunch and it was all perfection.
I see that your crust is super golden and flaky as was mine and my Friend Gordy gave me his Mother's egg pie crust and it is the best thing I have ever eaten before.
So I thought I would give it to you- since you gave me the best Chicken Pot Pie recipe :)
    3 c Flour sifted
    1 1/2 c shortening
    1 egg
    6 T cold water
    1 t vinegar
    1.Combine the shortening and flour
2.whisk together the egg, water and vinegar and then add it to the other bowl.
I did only have half a cup of shortening and used 1 cup of butter - which made the crust less flaky but more rich and harder to maneuver in to the pie pan. (It was still amazing)
Ah yeah: This recipe yields maybe 3 pie crusts without tops...
I hope you enjoy this recipe - you deserve to have it :) Thanks for sharing your's and for making it so simple to follow along! I enjoyed the experience a lot.

My Oma taught me to use the vegatable water to make the broth/stock, the starch from potatoes in the water adds to the creamyness similar to using pasta water in your pasta sauces. Also i normally quickly fry my cooked shreaded chicken wwith butter to get afew brown nutty bits for added flavour. Thank you for the video i normally use store bought pastry but i watched your other video and made my own, which to my family at least tasted better than store bought, if i have the time in the future i will use homemade. Take care God bless.

Oh my gosh thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I’ve made it three times for my family and they absolutely love it! I think it’s their new favorite! I’ve made it with your homemade crust which is flaky and delicious… But I’ve also made it with store-bought biscuits the ones that come in for cans and I just bake those and mash them into the top of the pot pie and serve without baking in the oven! Everything is hot and cooked already anyway! Super simple absolutely love it thank you thank you thank you I can’t thank you enough!❤️

I followed this recipe + the pie crust recipe to a T, and it turned out perfectly!
One important detail: Do not attempt to make this using a standard pie plate! A 9in x 2in CAKE PAN is what you'll need to achieve superb results.

I keep reading the comments hoping someone would say something about the bottom crust browning in the oven. Thanks for the tip on using a cake pan instead of a pie plate. I was curious about the bottom crust browning well. The cake pan would work better than a pie plate. 💫💫💫💫💫 5 stars for the helpful comment.
