    This is a project that is well overdue. I have been struggling to keep track of filament and have any form of organization. Originally I had planned to make RepRacks for the new studio but after seeing FilaBilly I decided it was exactly what I needed. In this video we cover what the system is and what goes into it as we assemble three of these units.

    IKEA Pro-Tip: Add carpenters glue to those wooden dowels. Keeps these things from falling apart when moving them around.

    I'd love to see you covering Spoolman. I discovered it by myself and used it upon notice since i very much enjoy organizing (what is wrong with me, help) and having you wrapping it up would be so nice.
    I can't grasp how many things i tried out or even just heard about and was an instant fan of thanks to you covering it

    Yes, one vote for a video on spool man. Also is there a potential video for the Magneto X coming up? I couldn't help but see it in the room and I'm itching for a review on it! Appreciate your work, thanks!

    A must should be to use cabinet joiners to join them all together. That should make them a fair bit less likely to fall. But if given enough force might make them all fall over. I've had 3 of these joined without fixing them to the walls due to landlord issues and they seem much more stable.

    snap off window packing shims are a great option to add a slight backwards lean to bookcases, so your anchor is less likely to be needed, and to keep things from rolling forwards off shelves.

    Dude, that is a great idea. Especially for people who live in a rented apartment or house and can't or don't want to drill into the walls. I use wall hung racks but may go with a couple of these in the new shop. Thanks for sharing!

    This is awesome! One extra benefit of doors on those is it keeps the debris from settling on the filament.

    Great setup! I just started using Spoolman and it's absolutely life changing! As I print with ASA almost exclusively, it's great to be able to see the last time a filament was used so I have an idea of how much drying it may need before I start.

    I would love to see the community pick this up and run with it, hopefully leading to custom integrations into slicers and multi-material systems like the ERCF.

    One of the better looking filament storage solutions. Still prefer to keep mine in sealed containers rather than out in the open where they get dusty.

    Do the billy with doors then add a dryer in it your spools will never need to worry about wet filament again 😊

    Conduit cutting tip: if you can secure it to something so you aren't holding it while you're cutting then the experience is sooo much better. You get much less tired and you can cut faster. I used conduit with Makerpipe joints for a project and once most of the structure was made I clamped it to that and it was a huge difference

    Love this. Filament storage is definitely a problem for me. I currently have them all in bags in a storage cabinet and it’s super annoying.

    Good video.
    As I start collecting spools of filament, I realised I need a storage system, that wouldn't break the bank.

    I would love to see Spoolman and how it works. I have a Bambu Lab printer which you didn't mention, but it sounds like it may not work.
    I tried to use 3D Print Log but it the last time I checked it didn't have all of the filament types (for example it has ABS but not ASA), the interface was a little clunky, and requests to the people who manage seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
    I like the Ikea storage system by the way, it's cleaner to me than the reprack solution. I would try to go that route and seal it up for desiccant (my place is humid as heck), but I already went down the sealed storage boxes with desiccant and hygrometers.

  • @Walnut3D
    @Walnut3D 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is great! Definitely giving me some inspiration for future filament storage when I have larger volumes of filament.
    P.S. I’m glad you think you won’t be getting anymore filament, good luck with that! 😂

    This seems unnecessarily complicated. I just have my spools in a Billy straight on the shelves. I made some custom holes to mount shelves at specific spaces to fit more spools, but that's like a five minute job for the whole bookshelf.

    could have used a hacksaw or a cheap angle grinder to cut the pipes

  • @Aikano9
    @Aikano9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A hacksaw or sawzall and a 3d printed saw guide that holds the blade perfectly 90 degrees to the pipe will be far quicker and easier than pipe cutters. Surface finish isn’t as nice, but that really doesn’t matter for this use case.

    • @modern_DIY
