What are your thoughts? More or less than you thought it might cost? Reasonable price for a 61 day trip to the Nordics? Especially versus the experience you get?
@ excellent to hear! I really like it because it’s just a super thin one. I’m used to taking out larger power banks during the day but they’re a bit more bulky, realistically I don’t really need more than one full charge on a normal day
Well explained. You have to fund it somehow & your viewer stats reflect how much we enjoy helping you do it. Looking forward to round 4. I heard you have given advice to Those Happy Days too, for their trip North. Enjoy. Hope to do it one day myself...
Thank you very much. Yeah, the first few seasons are funded by his selling Xmas Trees which is a bit of a brutal job! Fortunately, I’ve been able to build the channel because of the viewers into one which funds its own trips. I indeed have been giving some advice to those happy days. Where did you hear that from?
$8000 USD to freeze your arse off and drive around in the dark for two months. Hmmm. I did enjoy the Northern Lights. They are a lot brighter than at my home. I would like to see my ancestral home of Norway and would love to ship my van over to do it. I’d better start playing the lottery.
All very true, apart from the heating is on most of the time so I’m warm!. Couldn’t think of a better way to spend my money. I would love to ship my van over to North America for the winter, but it’s about $4000 one way!
That was a great video Alex..really great to see honest costs after watching the series. Puts it into perspective which I don’t think was that bad. Look forward to the next arctic adventure along with a new van build possibly (or pre done)
Thank you. Yes what I do with the Arctic series is to inspire people to come up here and do it safely. part of that is knowing how much it’s gonna cost them Can’t wait for the new Arctic series and the new van build
Great summary video. I am soooo much waiting for your arctic travel videos from the next winter and I am welcoming you to Finland and the neighboring countries again. The winter isn't here yet, the temperature has been between +5 and +10°C here in southern Finland this week and of course we don't have any snow yet. Anyway, on sunday I changed the winter tires to my motorhome. Now I am ready for oncoming winter :)
That's great Alex. I'm glad that watching your videos helped you fund your trip. I hope to see new build series soon and next adventure series on your channel. Maybe you can do from cold to hot climate 😅
Really informative well done. I did find the beers we had did push my budget up lol. Looking forward to round 4. May even pop by to say hi Wishing you all the best Cheers ade
Yeah, I think it’s an important part of the overall trip. I do my best to show and tell people how to be safe and how to enjoy themselves up there but one of the requirements is definitely the costs.
Really interesting breakdown of costs, I actually thought some things would have cost you more. Quite some distance you travelled. I always spend a fortune on electrical bit too 😀 All the very best, David 👍
Its really interesting to hear how you manage this with revolut. Also impressed by the ways you control costs, but still dont miss out on the fun stuff, otherwise what is it all for?
Averaging around £100 is good going. We, as a family of 4 in the camper in France work really hard to average that. But we managed it just about. Next year in Norway I'm expecting to double that at least
Yeah, I guess some prices end up cheaper per person as a couple or family whilst others are more expensive. Fuel, I imagine within reason it’s pretty similar to the one person or a few. but food & drink, will definitely become a lot more .
Feels like Round 4 lol. Costs as expected really, you can't put a price on fun and those experiences! Looking forward to more Mispronounced Adventures!
It varies massively. I only use premium diesel in the van. so on the long drive out and return which is probably around 4000 miles of the trip I get between 27 to 29 mainly due to just endless motorway driving. actual time in the Arctic probably dropped to about 21 to 23. As is a lot shorter journeys probably more inefficient driving through snow, especially where I like to go and it uses winter diesel which I think is just less efficient.
I would so love to be in a position to travel in the nordics like you, unfortunately im not as young as yourself and not as able bodied so I have to play it safe with my adventures. Love watching yours though 👍

@@Mymail-z1x not at all. If it was a an Alternator failure itself from type of overheating failure than maybe. But my alternator is 220A and the recommended rule of thumb for auxiliary loads on alternators is it shouldn’t be larger than one third of the alternator’s capacity . So my two 30A Orion’s is still reasonably under that. Many run less reserved rules of half capacity. Given it was an internal failure of the clutch pulley bearing I would just put it down to failure of the bearing due to wear and tear on 147k miles at that point.
@@MispronouncedAdventuresIf I understand correctly, a high current load puts extra pressure on the pulley bearing. I had the exact same setup with two Orion units, and when they both start at 30A each while idling, I can hear the engine tone change dramatically
@ definitely higher loads from an alternator will cause more stress on the engine and all its components. With the OBD2 reader you see in many of my videos it’s actually a measurable statistic. My two DCDC charges off and on is round a 7% increase on engine load. But my vehicle is also one with air-con, which has air-conditioning compressor and a higher load on the alternator from Air-con which is about 45 to 50A is running. Still a tiny effect on a item like a bearing
@rubensvanlife don’t tempt me! I generally love spending my winters up there the fact that I can make videos out of it which cover the trip cost is a bonus! Season four and season five I’ve planned. Although the intention for season 5 ( winter 2026 ) Will be to do it with the new van.
Still many months off. Hoping by the end of winter next year I have a good idea about when the new van will arrive and can build it throughout the summer.
@Riitmi that’s definitely the plan. I did want it for round four, but you can probably appreciate purchasing a new four-wheel-drive van is not necessarily the quickest job or a cheap one! As much as I love yeti I would rather sell her when she’s got plenty years left to use and worth a good financial amount
What are your thoughts?

@@MispronouncedAdventures it’s less but you need to improve your diet!! 😂
Much less than I thought - I probably need to cut down on cafe visits though 🤓

Nice to know travels have become self funded. Can't wait for round 4. And the new van. 😉
It’s a very fortunate position I’ve managed to get the channel to that now the trips pay for themselves.
