      @@MispronouncedAdventures Ha, great.
      In addition I would to comment once more on using the 12v 10a socket. I still run my 5 kw chinese heater using that socket on the smallest anker powerstation. With the watts you were getting in this vid (128, but im subtracting a few because of convertor losses) that should just be possible. I still find it weird that it works so well for me but it didnt work in your previous tests. Although i always start at the lowest power.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rik8508 Diesel heaters worked no problem on my original EcoFlow River Pro, but not off later models. but when I looked into the details it made sense why. the original EcoFlow River pro “12v” @ 10A socket was actually 13.6V so a max of 136W on the spec sheet. On my later models the 12V @ 10A socket is 12.6V on the spec sheet which is only 126W.
      Seems 126W isn’t enough for most, whilst 136W is just enough. so your smaller Anker might have a different output.
      there is a small amount of effciency lose with my charger. Around 93%

    • @rik8508
      @rik8508 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MispronouncedAdventures interesting! My anker indeed outputs 12.9 v, so slightly higher than yours. And my heater pulls about 114-118 w on startup, so I might just have gotten lucky with my combination.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rik8508 i think there is also a lot of variation on the heater too. Many ship with thin cables. So the draw would be higher, thicker cables less voltage drop, lower wattage draw on the 12v sockets

    I've had the older version of this heater for about 2 years now, and it has treated me very well. Only issue I've ever had was with the cap vent not, well, venting ... I just loosen the cap. Never bothered me to investigate further.
    On my first van, I piped it through a screw-on boat access hatch to the adjustable vent installed in the door panel, now with my second van I just run a hose through a window. I'm kept more than comfortable in snowy winter conditions.

    • @MispronouncedAdventures

      Yeah I see issue in the past about fuel caps which don’t vent. Which is why I made a point of it on this video.

    I recently purchased the newer (2024) version of this Hcalory heater. It's nice because it has the fuel tank inside the case, and then the diesel heater is below it. It also has a different controller, app, and supposedly an updated / new heater. I'd love to see you do a review and tear down of the new one if you can. Thanks.

      It’s a pretty nice format. I’m about to review the MK2 version might be even better.

    hi Alex, nice video again. During the review there was a short fragment twice where you used diesel heating outside to heat your engine (or was it diesel pipe?) or whatever it was. On my Mercedes sprinter 319 cdi (3 L V6 4x4) it is not allowed by Mercedes to install a block heater. (possibly problems with overheating of the cylinder heads according to Mercedes. Do you (or anyone) have experience with preheating the engine with a portable diesel heater as in your review. Regards, Peter

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      the outside shots using the portable heater weren’t for preheating the engine in this scenario it was actually for trying to preheat the engine preheater because that particular day was -38c and the diesel spec I had in the van that day was rated to -35c it gelled up in the line so I was actually just trying to thaw out the diesel so I could start the engine preheat so I could then heat the engine.
      , I’m quite surprised Mercedes have said that though because a factory optional extra for their vehicles is a engine preheater ( sometimes known as a auxiliary heater or a parking heater )
      Although the word in Europe terminology “block heater” is usually for the electrical type which is a threaded fitting into the engine, whilst hydronic heaters is usually plumbed in line on the coolant loop. I find it odd that they would say it could potentially overheat the cylinder heads given coolant heaters shut down around 80° C but if you’re driving your vehicle usually the temperatures are around 90-100c of coolant.
      I don’t think a diesel heater pumping hot air into the engine bay would have that much effect. Surely it will have a some effect amount but you would be heating The exterior of the block opposed to the coolant heaters which are pumping hot coolant through the interior of the block. It might work it would just be quite slow.

      @@MispronouncedAdventures Thx for the quick response. The Mercedes parking heater option was removed from the option list soon after this model was released. It was no a problem with the 2 liter engines or the previous version of the 3L. The Mercedes warranty expires with a retrofit. Last spring I was in Lapland and also in Finland no one could help me for the same reason... not allowed by Mercedes. So I'll have to do with the next best thing....

  • @MrPhillipgraham
    @MrPhillipgraham 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I dont get how this can work outside if the thermostat/programmer is attached to it? Youd need the thermostat inside the area you're trying to heat?! You'd need to remove it and wire it remotely inside so defeats the whole point of it being portable? What am i missing. Also where do you buy these from in the uk? The design has changed now to a more buliker chest looking thing is it the same?

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I say that a number of times in the video that the thermostat modes are somewhat pointless because the temperature sensor is based on the controller which is attached to the toolbox which should be outside. although as you said, if you did extend the cable and bring the controller inside that would work. otherwise, you’re gonna have to use on the manual power modes.
      There are Two Version now. TB1 ( this model ) which has an external 5L fuel tank and the newer TB2 ( toolbox 2 ) which has an internal 6L fuel which is more portable. Both can be purchased off Banggood.com or direct.

    The smell is terrible. I'm using a diesel heater in my garage even with the exhaust vented outside, the combustion gases are still leaking and being blown into the garage.
    You have to modify it to be air tight because the Chinese manufacturers literally don't care if you die from Carbon Monoxide and particular matter.
    A propane heater is much better because what you get is Carbon Dioxide and water as a result of combustion.
    Usually the chances of incomplete combustion only happen if you don't have enough oxygen. I would recommend having a fresh air intake in the area you are working. You loose some heat but it's better than not dying 😅

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@brarautorepairs guess that’s the advantage of using them traditionally in van format. You using a turrent mount so you don’t really get any chance of exhaust gas. You are right about seals which I make the point on about they should be mounted outside.
      Not a fan of propane heater because of the water but I am speaking from a van use case

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As for fresh air intake for the test bench I’m not to bother as I have the main roof vent fan on max air in. So plenty of fresh air. always important for a permanent install that the combustion intake is outside

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @MaritimeUnprepared definitely, the best way to do it. I don’t think I expressly mentioned it in that video but yes, with traditional mounted diesel heaters you heat the internal air which is considered more efficient. @@MispronouncedAdventures I've got three of them in bits because they _ALL_ have various issues! Actually can't be bothered to sort through them now and make a supposedly good one out of them because my _Eberspacher_ is just so far and away superior. Main difference is the wiring loom. The resistance produced by the cheap poor quality wiring totally wiped out one battery and was gradually degrading another when I replaced everything with the beefy German harness.
      The Chinese heaters won't serve me as spares because it would mean swapping out the entire installation in order to run one. Thanks for taking the time to do such in-depth analysis. You're brave filling a fuel tank in your living space, there's no way I'd risk that - diesel's great stuff but Man it STINKS!

    • @MispronouncedAdventures
      @MispronouncedAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @dancarter482 controversial view I think diesel tastes nice.
      That can definitely be the issue with a Chinese heaters, hundreds of variations. So such a variety & variable quality. And probably 50+ different ECU’s which are all very different and have different tuning which is why many of them run better than the others. The other issue which I’m not saying is related to you is generally Chinese heaters are installed by DIY who have never installed heaters before. whilst Webasto, autoterm and others are installed more often by professionals who know a lot more about fitting them such as pump orientation, maximum amount of angles in exhaust and so on.
      But I know loads of people who have had nothing but issues CDH and also loads of people who have had them for years it’s never been an issue. My main heater is CDH in my van has 6000+ hours now and apart from a worn out bearing which I replaced and a fuel pump it’s been nothing but fine for three Arctic winters.
      The new van, however will be autoterm for both the engine preheat and the main air heater.

      @@MispronouncedAdventures Definitely an acquired taste but the tongue rash and heartburn convinced me to stick to tea.
      Sooting up was the main bugbear I encountered first with Cdh's along with glow plug faults - pretty sure the glow plug doesn't re-activate when I shut down my _Eber'_ - I could bore everyone with all the issues I've had with the Cdh's but suffice to say I've had absolutely zero with the _Eber_ - the thermostat is awesome and it uses hardly any fuel by comparison. Yeah, one of the reasons I stick with my current diesel heater and do the minor repairs when I need to is because it’s one which works well I would rather not replace it and put a completely new device in
