Bruce (Barbour), Mike's then brother-in-law. Good to see all the standins (Bruce, David Price, David Pearl, Ric Klein etc.). RIP, Jon Andersen, James Frawley, Bob Rafelson, Paul Mazursky and those three beloved Monkees.
It looks to me like an inside joke, like maybe Micky had difficulty getting that part right in rehearsals, or maybe he made a joke about it ahead of time. It was definitely a knowing glance 😂😂😂
The first time this episode aired we, of course, didn’t know that song was coming at the end. The second time I saw it I was in front of the television with a cassette recorder in front of the speaker to record it. I listened to that song so so many times. Their harmony was so flawless and beautiful. And Micky’s solos were perfect, he had the ideal voice for that.
Besides the song which is just wonderfully sung, this has to be one of the best Christmassy things I have seen in a very long time. Makes me nostalgic for those programs that would take the time out to do something like this. You just don't see this today in shows.
in 1968 during their Australian tour I took the week off school amd just sat on the fence outside their hotel window. After 3 days a security guard approached me and took me inside the lobby. There to greet and thank me for my dogged persistance was David and Mickey who kissed me on the cheek, hugged me and signed my autograph book. Later that evening the security guard let me give my autograph book for Michael to quickly sign as they were heading to the car to go to their concert. I was 11 and though I was punished severely by the school and my parents it remains one of my happiest memories
My first concert,I was 8.I saw them 5 more times after that.Ive always noticed the look that was given to Mickey by Davey in this video. He also looks at Peter too, like "Check this guy out"
Their voices and harmonies are brilliant. The most impressive thing might be that they had to learn to sing it phonetically. Catalan is a pretty unusual language.
I saw this episode a few months back. With the rich kid who hated Christmas. And the Monkeys helped him see the light.😊 And then this vocal. I was entranced by it. And I'm so glad to see this and relive its wonder. I don't know what it meant, but it's beautiful.🎄🎅
What this shows it that the relationships on the Monkees were real and professional ... the boys were loved and they cared for each other. I remember watching this as a kid and WANTING to be there!
My childhood, fun innocent times. The Beatles had gone weird and scary to me (aged 11) so the Monkees took over for me for a couple of years. I went back to the Fabs with a vengeance later, but the Monkees were great and produced some classic tracks. Mickey Dolenz is one of my favourite singers and it turns out all four were real talents.
@@michaelfox2433 I'm from Argentinia so I speak Spanish (and do understand Portuguese). I tell you: It's a old Spanish carol and they're singing in Spanish.
This video brought a great big smile to my face, many thanks for sharing it. I've been a fan of the Monkees ever since their show 1st aired, watching it in London, but had no idea of this song until now. Amazing performance, they definitely gelled well together with awesome harmonies. Also, agree the last part where they brought the crew in front of the cameras was a very sweet gesture on their side, totally keeping with the Christmas spirt. A very poignant moment in time captured for posterity. 👌🙏😀
I'm glad they listed The Monkees in alphabetical order in this one instead of sticking Davy first, and then listing the others as such. They were an ensemble.
My friend brother took piano lessons from Peter Tork. He had no idea who he was, I flipped out when I saw a picture if them. I was able to meet him at her brother's concert, and was able to have my picture taken with him as well. Ironically I had the biggest crush on Mike, but I didn't want to ask about him because of the hard feelings between the two of them.
Still my favorite band since I was a kid. Greatest songs ever, I listen to all of their songs on Sunday mornings. The Beatles were meh, in my opinion. The Monkees were the best of the 60's. I miss Mike, Davy, and Peter, it's gonna be a bad day when Micky isn't here. Four of the best talents and so underrated as just a "manufactured" band.
I first heard this 12 years ago when I bought the Monkees tv show on DVD to watch with my daughter - it's now one of my favourite Christmas songs. This just shows how well these four could actually sing. Also, I think this carol may be in Catalan, not Spanish?
It’s nice to hear Davy’s vocal on this, as I think Mike’s buddy John London sings on the studio track in his stead Or maybe my brain finally ID’d Davy’s part when it could match it to his lips moving
Beautiful song and the harmonies were PERFECT! But my GOD! ALL those MEN in the crew and only 5 women who... work in the office... but then, those were the times.
That was as fine a quartet singing as I've ever heard.
Who knew that the Monkees would be singing a Renaissance song? And so beautifully!
And with incense!

seeing all four of them singing together makes me cry when i know 3 of them are gone...they really had something magical going
You said it all!
This song alone along proves they need to be in the hall of fame.
The HOF sucks. I don't know why people think the RRHOF is so great
Gawd no! HOF is full of bovine excreta.
Should have been in YEARS ago.
I love that look that Davy and Peter exchange. It says, "Man, Micky is really killing that vocal!"
my favorite bit, too. Heartwarming.
It looks to me like an inside joke, like maybe Micky had difficulty getting that part right in rehearsals, or maybe he made a joke about it ahead of time. It was definitely a knowing glance 😂😂😂
It was Peter's favourite song. Glad they did it. It was great.
Love this❤
Yes, Davy is looking at Mickey in amazement!
Who couldnt love The Monkees!!

There was so much more to the Monkees than just the slapstick and camp.
This is truly a solid performanvce and a great message.
I sing Renaissance era semi-professionally… I was impressed!! This carol isn’t easy!!
That last chord, just wow

WOW! Worth it! You were a brave and patient kid.
Davy Jones has to be the most precious celebrity ever! I adored him. May he, Peter, and Mike rest in peace.
Wonderful harmonies. They were genuine talents.
Amazing song well done men Merry Christmas ALL around the world. 🙏🏼🎁🎄
Davey knows everyone's names - classy guy.
at the 2;06 mark did he call the guy a poof? haha
@@johnmcgarry1858he sure did call him a Puff and basically telling everyone out on TV Land the guy is gay.
Best idea, letting the crew come out front to say hi to everyone!
The song was wonderful but the ending when they bring on the crew was perfect!
Amen! 🙂
The guys were really sweet.
@@sybilshaver1457 Yes!
They were so underrated. I love Mickey’s voice
The way Davy looks at Mickey is beautiful.
It is as if"Wow this guy can really sing"....so glad you noticed that.Mickey was sometimes overlooked for his vocal talent.

"Man, Micky is nailing that vocal!"

The Monkeys were great musicians and entertainers and I always loved watching and listening to them. Still hanging on to Micky and missing the others.
"Peace and Love and everything else!"
Loved them so much!

Really Great Harmony ..😮...😊
Feel good video of the week.

this is awesome! how come I’ve never seen/heard this? I always put The Monkees right up there with The Beatles as harmony singers
Never knew they could sing harmony that well.
My childhood, fun innocent times. The Beatles had gone weird and scary to me (aged 11) so the Monkees took over for me for a couple of years. One of the best versions I've ever heard! 🎄
I love how Davey knows all their names and something personal about them.
I used to work with a woman who grew up in England. She said that in England, they say "Happy Christmas-" not "Merry Christmas."
Beautifully sung, great harmonies, in a good Spanish.❤❤❤❤
Its actually Portugese.
@@michaelfox2433 I'm from Argentinia so I speak Spanish (and do understand Portuguese). I tell you: It's a old Spanish carol and they're singing in Spanish.
@@haydeebursesi5332 I stand corrected ,....I was told this song was in Portugese many years ago and I never questioned it...thanks for correcting me.

Davy was just the sweetest guy ever! ♥️
Red alpaca cardigan sweaters - the epitome of 1960s cool. Merry Christmas to all.
I was just a kid back then and watched them because they were funny. Little did I realize how musically talented they were. ❤
Stellar... Nez is so TOPS!!!!
They were genuine nice guys.
Davy’s voice is so strong❤

The Monkees - they got me through. . . ✨☮️🌼🌱🐶✨
Oh how I loved the Monkees!
what a treasure
That ending is so wholesome!! I've never seen it before, thank you for sharing! it seems like they were all having fun

Some pretty pretty good singing.
Great harmony The Monkees

Love this song! Miss them!
This is great!! The Monkees could sing goood. Nice 1. Seasons' greetings 🌈
Based on The Kingston Trio's Guardo El Lobo on the Make Way album.
It’s funny how seriously the two jokesters, Mike and Micky took the singing, whilst Peter and Davy were ready to crack up at any second.
no they werent, they were looking at each other because they were in awe of their concentration
@@glitterdrip19 They were in awe of Micky's VOCALS as was I
They grew & learned from each other & thrived! ❤

lovely! ❤❤❤ thank you
That is not easy to sing. It takes amazing talent to be able to pull that off!
They all looked stoned. Functionally stoned. ✌
Beautiful - never heard this before
Thanks for sharing! ✌️❤😊
I love The Monkees TVS Shows.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Riu chiu
Love this
Wonder how Rick Klein felt about being called a poof on national television. 😅😅
Were some of those guys at the end the actors who played Wizard Glick's minions in the final episode?
A Spanish carole
❤
I was a Lucy Kid.
I share Your sentiment right here! This is coming from Keith Jennings, born in 1965
Flat out outed the guy with the flower. His a puff, take him home.
It appears there’s no females nor any brothers on the crew. Nor any Chicos or any Zulus, on the crew
Great special closing credits only used on one Monkee episode. Too bad you cut off the middle of the "S From Hell" logo.
quite a dearth of women on that crew
And melanin! The '60s establishment, amirite?
Did Davy mention Don Kirshner🤣
Why would he? This was almost a year after Kirshner was fired
