- This is a video of MCR performing at the American Legion Hall in Cresskill (or maybe Dumont... i forget), NJ. This video was taken in early, early 2002 when Frankie Iero had just joined the band. I think it might be their 20th show. I found this video on a cd when I was cleaning up my room... My friend had taken the video when i was working with the band so that's why my name and (old) phone number is at the end.

@@annaburgos7271 every band starts "so local". Sure it's rare they blow up like MCR did but that's not the point. The point is every band has to start exactly where they started, as a local band, so go out and support your local scene because you might find your new favorite band.

@@patgannon3528 I feel the reach of the internet makes it more true if anything. There's a major over saturation happening with music online due to the ability to record and release music becoming more accessible to everyone who might be interested. I feel like we are in the age where, sure, your song might blow up super fast because maybe it became a tiktok trend or something but you as an artist are going to remain pretty unknown. Think about all of the songs that have become trending in the past 2 years and ask yourself how many of those you remember the artists name. Given, of course, that you didn't already listen to that artist before hand.

There's an autobiography that I read about MCR and it said Mikey had just learned how to play bass so he'd stay still because he didn't wanna fuhk up and the guys said they used to make fun that before the shows he'd nail his shoes to the floor😂

It’s a classic punk/post-punk dance move- that and the pogo- I remember my dad and his friends doing it sometimes when they were drunk when I was a kid. I think David Byrne of The Talking Heads has also done that move more than a couple times.

I really love how they all performed even back then, when the band was still inexperienced. They all put 110% in their shows and Gerard moved around so much and knew how to get the audience excited even then.
Its impossible to watch this without crying and getting hyped. But I mean, everyone gets hyped listening to Vampires even when its not the live version. My teacher met My Chemical Romance. My teacher who has no idea of what kind of music they played met them. SHE TOURED WITH THEM. THE PAIN. IS. REAL.

Listen, I am a old guy (44 years old)...and as a I read a book on My Chemical Romance. I never got to catch them while they were a active band. But the message and style in their music is a fucking great thing. Those of you who are MCR fans dont let anyone ever give you shit over them. I would be the first to shake Gerard and Frankie's hand. Matt Pellssier was the drummer and I think he just wasn't quite good enough to get the band where MCR wanted to go. I hope the Way's know what a service they have done to everyone with their music.

They sound freaking incredible right out of the gate when they just started performing. They knew they had something very special instantly. Some things in life, you just have that gut feeling.
Alexander Garrett if i was old enough and saw them randomly at a local show without any knowledge of them, this performance would have pulled me right in. They’re so special.

I remember watching this when I first discovered them in 2005 and absolutely DYING at Gerard's spastic movements!! Now I'm almost 27 and I realize that G was 25 here...it absolutely blows my mind because they seemed so old when I was 12 and had just discovered them

My girlfriend's cousin smoked weed with the band back when they were still a local band. It seems they tried to bury that era of the band or at least romanticize it. Life on the murder scene compared to the book not the life it seems kinda shows how much fluff that documentary was. it's funny the book doesn't seem to sugar coat things but at the same time frank was the biggest source and he tends to give the least amount of fucks.

+Gordo N the book is called "not the life it seems: the true lives of My Chemical romance" I was talking about how it differs from the video documentary "life on the murder scene" like how drug use was covered up besides gerard 's and even watering down that. Not to mention how it barely talks about there time on eyeball records. the video documentary "life on the murder scene" is a fluff piece for reprise records.

Seeing them so young is almost strange. The earliest I had ever seen them was in their video for Vampires will never hurt you. I'm fairly sure this predates it. Either way their extremely close, Gerard's hair is still short. They've come so damn far.

The Maxwell show is right below this video. It makes sense how they were immediately approached by big labels and signed on one by the next record, they were already something else so early on
