@@DawnAfternoon but the whole point of like over half of CrossCode and its DLC is to underline that an evotar and the person they're based on can't be the same person. They have severe amnesia when first being made, then they develop as their own individual from their different experiences. They can even turn against the same ideals the original held.
The intro is godlike. Such a perfect transition for an incoming battle.
The tension and grief are present in this track, and it's just so good I can't describe it very well.

@@arti2074 He's saying that a duel is one vs one, so Emilie can't back Lea up in her fight against Apollo. Not that PvP matches are something literally exclusive to Spheromancers.

Now, if this fight was BEFORE you get access to Rhombus Square, then yes, it would be hard.
i was so pumped during that fight and then when this part hit at 1:15 i was like 'OH MY GOD IT'S THE THING FROM THE THING" while trying to pay attention at the fight since it's the part that plays from some sad themes and the lea theme when she logs in

One of my favorite track. I love the various variation of Lea's theme really.
Well... Two of my favourite confrontations in computer games are this (Lea VS Shizuka) and one from Celeste (Madeline vs Badeline). Despite games being totally diffrent, they both put player's characters into confronting themselfs... And spiced it with totally beautifull music.
I am not surprised somebody in this comment section has not only heard of Celeste, but played it through.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I played Celeste first, and then CrossCode. And when I got to the point where Shizuka and Lea were... well, explained... I almost instantly related it to Madeline and Badeline's fight.
TLDR you said it better than I could. The greatly composed music, in combo with both game's fight scenes, is a rare and special occurrence IMO.
@@nup5 I also played Celeste first. It's a masterpiece but a lot of people are aware of that fact. On the other hand practically nobody talks about CrossCode despite it being up there with the best indie games of all time

from my understanding, Celeste climbed (heh) up popularity wise mostly because of the speedrunning community. It was MASSIVE during the game's golden years. In fact it's STILL active.
I share CrossCode with people that I get the opportunity with. Because yes, this game deserves way more love than it has received
Well... I will just tell that I never heard about Celeste from Speed(gamewasting)running community. In fact, should I learn about game from them it would be HUGE DETERRANT from even trying it. But that is just my personal point of view on speedrunning and that community. I learned about game from one of YT videos, where a man was talking about general game mechanics (can't remember name of channel). It grabbed my attention and I thought - why not? Let's give it a try! I played CrossCode first, then Celeste. And if I would be forced to pick ONE of the two I would go for CrossCode as better game. Better being super subjective of course. That is just my opinion after all. Nothing more :)

Lea don't looks like a full copy of Shizuka's, she looks more like a "new" character based on the DNA of Shizuka.
Maybe it is because she is the first super AI, this make her an imperfect copy.
@@computervision557 not DNA, but based off her memories and in game avatar (game lore reveals this). as for her being imperfect as she was the first i'd agree with that. the reason why satoshi hasn't fixed her in all that time is still beyond me however.
It is also worth keeping in mind that EVEN if Lea would be perfect copy of Shizuka at moment of her creation, from that moment they both had diffrent life and expiriences. That alone would make them not same person. And Lea was not a perfect copy in first place (as was already pointed out). Anyway, all in all - fantastic game, super story and great music :)
I plan to mirror match Shizuka for my first playthrough. Already spoiled myself a bit but still is a hype moment. Mirroring the same elements would prolong the fights...but...I know the Switch version she becomes unbeatable after 4 rounds won by Lea because level 3 wind unavoidable one-shot. But, if Undertale has taught me anything, is that determination can change fate.
@@ZoraPMC When she starts charging, switch to Neutral and use the level 1 guard art Guard Sphere. That'll cut the damage by so much it's hilarious.
Man... This music... Geez... Why I didn't get this music during the Final battle ? It's by far the best of all the game, making the fight aigainst Shizuka really intense !

Honestly the music just elevated the fight so much it was so epic I fought her like 6 times and never got bored thanks to it

Crosscode devs used the same trick as Cave Story, but backwards. They used Shizuka's theme as the trailer music which you hear first even before getting the game, and then near the end of the game. Cave Story does something similar, it uses the main menu theme which you hear when you boot the game, in one of the last areas. It is so nostalgic.

I recently finished the game, and by god, that final boss was something else. Requiring all your knowledge of the elements. It was a damn marathon.

To me, this song has both "sadness" and "determination" combined. How you managed to translate such feelings into sounds is beyond me. It's brimming with emotions. Fantastic piece!

Most emotional fight in the game. Somewhat diminished if you just let her kill you. This fight deserves to a fair one with equal levels and both sides putting up a good fight.
[EDIT] That said, you could interpret it as Lea being so scared by what Shizuka is yelling at her that she feels she deserves to just stand there and get beat up. That she really is nothing more than a bad copy with no place in the world.

I got a very severe but also very well earned 5-0.
In fact I feel like I kinda played poorly just to give the fight a more intense feeling. Mind you, I was lv56.

Same happened to me, over 10 levels higher is hard. I managed to kill her once though! Just saved up special points and hit her with 2 of my strongest art in a row. No chance otherwise.

It made me sad that Sergei didn't take the time to anticipate her meeting Shizuka and programming the word "Sister" for Lea. That would've been a good feel for the tree talk.

By far my favourite music of the soundtrack, at the same time epic, sad and nostalgic. Just purchased the album today! I have finished the game not long ago and I can't wait to see what the post-game content will deliver.

things only get more epic when you discover the devs made it so shizuka AI is based on all the pvp matches you had with apollo, so she becomes your true counter.

The really ingenious part is that this only works because Apollo is also a spheromancer. They must have designed his entire character around this single idea (or it was a lucky coincidence).

So that's why she was infuriatingly hard, I beat Apollo all three times without losing a round once.

You can if you go find her at the tree at the old hideout at some point
2 years too late, but you can rematch her in the DLC! Find her at that pretty tree in the old hideout before starting the last section of the dlc (it gives you a warning.) You two talk for a second and she says she wants a rematch, and adds a custom cup to the arena; you can challenge her any time you want from here.

Gotta love “Rematch where the player and the opponent are on equal ground this time” fights. So satisfying.
Theme of remembering how Apollo mentioned that PvP gets a lot more interesting once you get your level 3 skills and subsequently realizing that you did not level up enough for this fight.

I recently beat Shizuka 2 nights ago. Damn intense fight with this music and the intro.
Still needing time to grind and prepare for the next main quest.
I gotta say, Shizuka wasn't hesitant to use Level 3 Combat Arts, but luckily those sticky situations made me improvise the use of Neutral Guard Arts (which became a habit to me) against Shizuka's Artillery Gatling (Level 3 Cold Range Art) and Ether Snipe (Level 3 Wave Range Art).
Duel with Apollo made me nervous, but with Shizuka it's more intense plus emotional.

It was terrible to overcome that I couldn't make an actual win in this duel, especially with that this is the only chance I can slap her back. The taste of defeat was just so bitter.
Just save before the fight, and when you lose just reset. I did it like this the first time. I saw the big area and so I tought: "Maybe there is a boss fight here, let's save first"
All of CC OST is amazing but holy fuck did Intero outdo himself with all the new 1.0 tracks. Literally every single one of them is incredible and even more so than the earlier tracks.

My fight ended on Lea 4 - Shizuka 4, i thought that the duel wasn't supposed to be completed but apparently i was wrong
woah really? I wiped the floor with her with 5-0 and then winning the first round on the second fight untill it stopped essentially 6-0. She was easier than apollo lol. Or maybe it's because i abused the FK out of my hp regen wave build.

You know, despite arguably being overleveled when I finally got to her from doing all that Rhombus Square booster stuff, I still found this battle super intense and was hyper focused on the fight. :p I raged hard on her and everything, LOL. XD
Sigh... and when she acted like she was going to initiate a second duel, I was pissed, LOL. :p (I think it's technically 6 fights you have to win, but whatever. :?).

Lea's story hits really close to home for me. Being a trans woman, it's really easy to relate to Lea's specific struggle for identity. A large part of being trans is discovering who you are after your entire perception of yourself shatters apart. I can just imagine Lea shouting "I'M REAL!!" during this fight if she could. I want to shout that sometimes, too. Beautiful piece, it really captures that intensity :)
This is all in my experience ofc, every trans person has their own path. It's just a very common thing I've noticed we relate to.

I made the mistake of repeatedly resetting right after she'd beat me, not realising that you weren't supposed to win 😔
It's more that it doesn't matter one way or the other. Because your opponent can't get what she wants by fighting and is simply too bullheaded to realize that.
If you're aiming for that boss trophy, you should at least win 3 times to make it count.

So I have returned after fighting Shizuka at lvl 58...the results that got me to lvl 60 was 6-1. First set 5-1, second set 1-0. I thought matching her elements instead of going opposite for increase damage actually helped me more than hurt me because of damage reduction. I even survived a direct Either Shot from her...but couldn't survive a second one during an elemental overload... but still...best fight in the game!
So just finished my fight with the ending was sick she hit me with the big shock time stop dash art and immedianlty after I hit her with the big wave sniper throw art
i put off this battle for a while just because shizuka had such a violent burning hatred of lea at this point that i found it hard to handle, and god it made for such a good fight (even though i was level 67 by that point bc i'd been putting it off so long and because i got my butt kicked when i went in as a level 52, so i spent all that time practising how to play the game properly)

After the way she acted and ruining that beautiful zen garden this was the moment you take revenge then have that heart to heart

I could actually see that being a thing. Like at some point you temporarily play as Apollo as you face a corrupted Lea or something, and it could be the one pvp battle that you have to beat to progress.

I don't know how, but the duel with her I barely scraped out a 6-0 score against Shizuka. Not gonna lie, tense fight.
I wish it would have lasted more... First time I got decimatdd 5-0, then there was a second round where I won 3-0, but it suddenly stopped... It could have been a proper bossfight

I beat the absolute shit out of shizuka using abilities that of course she couldn't use, time glitch, wave laser, ect.
Went 4-4 against her before the battle was forcibly ended. On the one hand, I was slightly disappointed to not see the battle resolved, I kinda wanted to stick it to her after *that one* scene. On the other hand, ending on a tie, one round away from conclusion, it seems kinda perfect in hindsight. It was my first go, it was very tight and a much longer battle than I expected after how quickly the Apollo duels went by comparison (Polly beat me 2-1 across all three duels). And after seeing where the story goes from there, I'm kind of okay with leaving the winner undecided.
I didn't know that happened. A tie, huh?
@@Gale_Storm_ Yeah, I've seen now that she just immediately goes into another duel if you beat her more convincingly, but I never had that happen in my playthrough, so I guess maybe it's just 8 rounds or something and then the fight ends?

@@laggalot1012 there's some behind-the-curtains math going on with the match, from what I've seen - the duel goes on for 12 match-points before an interruption happens, but Lea's wins count as 2 whilst Shizuka's count as 1. The most you can win is a 5-0 and then 1-0 on the second set, whilst Shizuka can beat you up for twelve whole rounds before being called. 4-4 ends up being the highest score you can get without a 2KO, since that puts the score tally to 12 and immediately calls the match off before either side can get the winning point.
And I only know that bit about the 2KO thing because it happened to me when I did that fight 😅 Shizuka still wants a rematch though, and the story progresses after either player gets a match point.
@@MrSmegheneghan Oh really, that's rather interesting. That's a fairly deliberate way to do it, compared to just going for X amount of rounds. I wonder how the devs settled on doing it exactly that way...

As someone who got decimated by Shizuka, I can confirm that, while losing 0-5 makes her IMMEDIATELY demand a rematch, after a few more rounds, Satoshi (presumably), calls her and tells her to stop fighting you, which she does.
