Hello Jamie, I was quite bored during the lockdown and decided to pick up an instrument. Tossed a coin; head for Sax and tail for the guitar. Fortunately it was head up. Ordered for a Sax and managed to get it towards the end of April. I struggled to make any sound with the mouthpiece until I ran into your previous video. You won't believe the relief and excitement that came with the first sound I made. Now I hold the Sax well and I am able to play my first three notes and first tune. I knew this was going to be a long ride but I am taking little steps and making progress. Thanks for holding my hands all the way. You're doing a great job and you make learning fun and easy. Thanks.
Brilliant, glad you're enjoying the content and thanks for your support! Really exciting to start a new instrument. thank you so much, i brought a sax 3 years ago as i have always wanted to play, i play other instruments, buy could never get a good sound until i found you, thank you so much i no longer scare the kids and wife, your a star
First of all thank you for what you do. I'm 57. Been playing harmonic, blues mostly, for fifteen years. Thought I'd change it up and get into Saxophon. Pick up a good used alto saxophone and a really good used Tenor. So here it goes.
@@GetYourSaxTogether thank you... dreamed of it since I was a little boy and now just want to become a good sax player and so I can play with my nephew
Spiffing lesson. Thanks so much, Jamie! Your tips on dropping the left shoulder posture to relax more and using our fingertips - moreso the very points being to curl to see a C, has really helped me out tonally, say with my baaing and honking to date. Also certainly assisting with lotsa other squawkin' going down too, cheers. Again, thank you. -)
Just keep watching your tutorial video while I still can't afford a saxophone. Love to watch and learn but still struggle for my 1st sax. I hope I can have 1 any sax to learn soon! Thankyou for your very usefull and motivating videos!
This series is amazing! I just got my sax, watched this series and was able to follow all the steps & start playing, all within an hour! Thank you, from a total beginner who's day you made 😁
Great video! I’ve tried a few others but this one helped me the most. Hubby bought me a tenor sax for Xmas. I’m excited to learn. I followed your steps and it sounds too high It’s not matching the tenor sound and notes. Is it something I’m doing? Is there something on the sax that alters the pitch? TIA
@@GetYourSaxTogether thank you! I did switch to alto as Im short and it was much easier for me to hold. I signed up for zoom lessons so hopefully we willet it figures out at my first lesson. Please let me know if you have any tuner apps that you like the best.
Question: I had a band teacher and not a saxophone teacher, and she was a clarinet player, so I was only ever taught the 1 and 1 fingering for Bb. I am having a hard time reprogramming my brain for the side Bb and or bis Bb. Any tips on the best way to retrain my brain to use the main fingerings for Bb instead of the 1 and 1?
Awesome video !!! I have question about my dads saxophone, it only has 3 circular pearls on top (left hand), it doesn't have the top and the little one to press . What does it mean ? Does it change anything ? Cheers from Brazil
That’s really quite unusual. Especially the missing bis key next to the B key. I’ve never seen that, but even on vintage horns. Are you sure it’s not a recorder? 😂😂😂
Hello although im not a beginner I have been wondering some of my friends hold their alto sax in between their legs (sitting down) not on the side and still plays very well is that proper?
Um. I play clarinet (probably doesn't help on sax). But on my heirloom (name I chose for it cause of age) sax it has only 4 keys sted of 5. It's a C melody. Any tips?
I have a problem balancing my sax (alto) when playing high C#, Since there are no fingers except the octave key, i end up biting the mouthpiece to stabilize. Can you offer any advice? I thank you so much.
That's actually an awesome question. The sax does become quite unstable on that note. try and keep your fingers close to the keys which might stabilise the horn a bit. If you need to hold the mouthpiece firmer, do it from the sides of your mouth, not the top and bottom. J:-)
@@GetYourSaxTogether Yeah.... it's hard to hold a tight embouchure consistently for me. I have been playing for 8 weeks.... I have been playing flute for decades, So different. I'm just loving my sax, and really want to get my chops together so i can play longer. My mouth gets so tired, so quickly. Thank you for your reply!
Hi Jamie, I'm 57 and have never tried any instrument , I'm only 2 weeks in and been practicing 2 hours per day, I appreciate it can take years to play properly but after 2 weeks my fingers will not do as they are told and I am struggling to get anywhere. Am I miles away from where I should be after 2 hours per day practice.
I’m not too sure why but when I blow into mine it takes like 3 seconds for the sound to come and I feel like I’m blowing very hard. If I try to blow very hard the air just comes out my nose instead any help?
It's probably just how you have your throat/vocal tract. Watch my big altissimo video. It's probably too early for you to play altissimo notes, but the vid explains how the sax works which is what you need to understand I think. th-cam.com/video/kURzx_fZ6Ho/w-d-xo.html

I’d take it to a music shop to be mended?
I just had it overhauled and the sax repair guy said it should be like a 5 key sax but with 4 keys on top portion.
