I love seeing Rick Danko dancing about hopping from foot to foot while playing..he looks like he's having fun at this gig...and jeez I love his voice so much.
I always enjoy watching Rick danko. He just seems to have so much fun up there on stage. Heck he could’ve made a career out of dancing. He just seems to have so much energy, I’d be that way too lol
What I love about Danko, besides everything, is he has a truly original vocal style, he's like a jazzman, you'll never hear it the same twice. Miss him so.
Yes…….,we were some excitable boys to be certain! We all had a great time together in this band, and the two mad scientists, (R & P) will always be in my top ten favorite memories during career in those days! I have SO MANY great stories that occurred with the boys. We had a blast 💥!!! Literally 😂
Great stuff. I like how they turn this into a jam. Probably my favorite version ive heard of this, and I huge fan of the Band, Danko especially, and this one is on my top 10 tunes every. Needless to say, I love this. Thanks for sharing.
@brian600lyle He rips up those strings... I think that there are "better" bass players out there, but for him only learning bass as a third or fourth instrument, he sure "picked" it up a a "frightening" pace. I have great respect for him.... wish he could have taken care of himself so I could have witnessed him play live.
RIP Rick Danko. Stupendous multi- instrumentalist, including one hell of a bass. This post would have been recently after the shows in Cali which Scorsese directed and filmed for The Last Waltz I suppose. Sad that Robbie Robertson chose to call it quits for The Band, supposedly he was the only one.
These two became known as the "Dangerous Duo" because their alcohol and drug fueled performances could be erratic and unpredictable. Butterfield had a volatile temper and was unpredictable. One night Rick played harp while Butter "strummed on the guitar". The audience was not pleased
The ultimate kick in the crotch is that Robertson is credited with writing most of The Band’s songs, so royalties go to him alone. Aftermath of that is shown very well in the Levon Helm documentary “ Ain’t in it for my Health “.
That might be, but according to Barney Hoskyns biograhpy of The Band, they all made a lot of money. Some wasted it on drugs and perhaps not managing it right. Robbie wanted to call it quits, because he had been on the road since he was a teenager, he had young children, and the drug use and car crashes were getting out of control. Who can blame him? Having said that I love all The Band members, and especially Rick.@@chuckhutton5087

Some affectionately call it, "The Danko Dance..."

Is that a Gibson bass that Rick is playin ?
@@kennethsemanchik2252 it looks like a Gibson Ripper which he was known to play in that era
The best part of the song is at 0:59, that is pure magic.

Rick was the band.
Lev was 2nd.
Robbie was just the front man.
Sorry - just the truth.
It certainly was all five, including Garth, their teacher, and Richard, their SOUL.
