@@sparklesandsmog I am about to have surgery within the next couple of months. I am curious as to if you have heard from people and what you think. I had the sleeve 7/29/16. Processed foods taste nasty now. I lost my weight in 7 months but I was not happy with my body. I started hiking 4/14/17 and went from a size 10 to a size 4 in 7 months.I hike 3-4 miles at least 4 times a week. My weight regulates itself and I don't worry about the scale. @@silverlining2794 That's so exciting!!!! My advice to you is do that like it's your job. Start now because it will give you the best start and habits. Then, when you have the surgery stay on total food lockdown for 2 to 3 years to establish your habits. A lot of people are in a hurry to eat more. Dr. Weiner, I am your last post before this and I have had great success, even at 62. Am down from 330 and am hitting a bit of a wall at 238. I am kicking in exercise to get things moving again. I love your videos and have your book, you help keep me focused and I pass your info on to so many others. Would you please make another video about the crazy idea I hear and see all over FB of "The 5 days pouch reset test". Thank you for answering all my questions. Prevention, prevention, prevention and being realistic all bases covered. Think in long-term, make healthy choices and, don't beat yourself up! Rather live life. Thank you, valueable much-needed information, and keeping it real. I had the removal of lap band 2yrs ago a positive outcome, I converted to Vegetarian, going 4yrs. Totally agree, in food and physical choices, Quality over Quantity.P.S My surgery coming, next week 9th of October! Cheers from Australia
Thank you for this video, this is one of the most informative, I've seen. On my 4th year and I just wish I'd received more guidance. But thankfully just 10lbs of regain!
Thank you for the info! Very useful. I am 8 months out from surgery and I am trying to step up my intensity with cardio drumming routines which I enjoy.
Your videos are so helpful. I sure wish I had found them sooner. I had lap band in 2011; now I wish I’d had the sleeve. I lost 67 lbs but have gained it all back, and more. I’m considering a revision to the sleeve, and I’m going to get your book so I can learn more about post op eating. I ate wrong after my band. The weight came off so fast at first that it was easy for me to fall into the pizza scenario you gave. At this point, I still eat 1/2 of what I ate pre-band and in spite of dietary changes, I still can’t get more than 10-20 pounds off. I’m so discouraged.
c a l l m e k a t i e Hang in there. I hit a plateau at five months, lost three pounds only the next month. I went by my loose clothes and kept going. This month, I dropped ten pounds in two weeks! Keep eating well and exercising. It will come. Good luck 💟🌞☺
I wish I had this information at 6 months after surgery. I hit a plateau and stayed the same for several years. Now I am almost 4 years out and have regained 50 of a 65 pound loss. At 67 years of age, I am trying to get it off, but it is slow going. Where can I find your Metabolic Reset diet. Your video is great and should be required viewing for all bariatric surgery patients. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this video. I am about 5 and 1/2 weeks out from surgery (VSG) and I was cleared to eat solid foods, I feel that I am able to eat too much at a time (3-5oz) and have been worried about it. Thankfully, I've been eating healthy foods that I've prepared myself, but this video was a good reminder to really focus on not letting myself slide back in to my old habits. I've been craving pizza and goodies lately but this video helped to put me back in the right mind set!
Glad to hear it - the sleeve is primarily a set point lowering surgery, the amount of restriction does not equate to weight loss. Don't worry about your portion sizes and focus on making healthy choices.
Hello! I live in Missouri and I had the RNY 3.7.19. HW 341 CW 191. I am so happy to be active and moving on my own and not riding in scooters or unable to tie or buckle my shoes.
Thank you so much for these videos Dr. Weiner, they're so helpful and informative, I love my surgeon (I'm a little over 1 month post-op VSG) but I can't help but feel a little rushed through my follow-up appointments and you answer in depth a lot of my questions that they just kinda breezed over at my appointments. Thanks again!!
+Meghan Allen glad to hear they help. The reason I created these videos was I felt rushed in my post op appts too and wanted to make sure my patients had all the info they needed.
This was a great video. I am out about five or six years with 25 pounds gained. I was thinking of another surgery but will now look at my nutrition and habits. Thank you for the video.
Thank you Dr Weiner! This video was sent to me by a fellow weight VSG'ER and it helps me to understand why i have not felt restriction since my surgery and why i am struggling with eating. I will follow your tips whole heatedly! Thank you so much! Dixie
Thanks for this video. I'm almost 2 1/2 years out of sleeve surgery - and I've suspected for the last 6 months that the food was leaving my sleeve very quickly. I do eat a predominantly plant based diet and have for the last year and a half. I had a hysterectomy 5 months ago and healing has been a little slow. I had to stop everything for another month back at the end of Jan. and I'm now back to spin classes and very light lifting. I gained only about 5 pounds but I don't want that to turn into 15-20. I just told myself - no dieting - if I want something to eat it just needs to be veggies, beans or fruits. Thanks for this video it affirmed what I was thinking. Looking forward to your new book. Take care. Connie
I am 7 years out from Band to Sleeve revision with zero weight loss, my doctor NEVER discussed any of this with me. I do eat pretty healthy and work out daily. My hormones and Genetics are horrible.....Thank you for sharing this information
Thank you. This is a really informative vid and helped me understand what is happening for me. Next month I'll be 4 years post-op from gastric bypass (Roux En Y). I can usually eat a regular sized plate of food but not usually a restaurant size plate of food. It's great to be able to take home 1/2 of those for another meal later that day. Weight loss surgery was the best thing I've ever done for myself.
Thank you, Dr. Weiner, for this awesome, informative video. I needed to hear this information. I was sleeved 10 months ago (by an awesome surgeon), and I've lost 118 pounds. The nearer I get to goal weight, the slower the weightloss. It made me wonder if I'd stretched out my sleeve somehow. I feel better about that now that I've watched your video.
I just bought your book! Thanks so much for these videos, i was sleeved 3/5/18 and I felt so lost! My surgeon's office has no nutritionist or dietician and I am trying to find some guidance.
I'm in the process of releasing a new website, www.poundofcureweightloss.com that has tons of new content, meal plans and recipes. If you're not getting the information you need from your bariatric program, maybe this site can help.
Hello Dr Weiner, discovered this video after browsing web. Thank you, I had my gastric sleeve four years ago, and have maintained my weight though I still feel I have another 10 - 15kgs to lose. I eat healthy, exercise regularly. Though have bradycardia, and aortic stenosis (heart murmer) discovered when I had sleeve. This does make it hard at times. Recently had an unconscious collapse - reviewed by cardiologist. (will eventually need valve replacement and pacemaker) I have lost 60kg so far, and want to stay healthy. Thank you for your videos and encouragement. Regards from Australia. :) Lynda
+YaniBrooks it sounds like you are having some regret about your surgery. This is common, particularly in the first few weeks. Success happens over years, not days so you will have to have patience.
@Dr. Matthew Weiner I will definitely start following your page. I have to get this weight back off. I am still much less than when I started but I am now having knee problems and when you are in pain it can become depressing.
your videos are so informative. you have helped me have a better understanding of weight loss surgery. I will be having the sleeve in july and because of your videos I am more prepared and excited about this lifestyle change. thank you so much. I always felt it was better to eat good food, quality vs quantity more important than just counting calories. God Bless!
I just had rny on the 5th and am part of a FB bariatric group. This has been amazing and I had to share in that group due to so many expressing preemptive and post surgery "stretching." Great video! thanks!
Dr. Weiner I love your videos and I follow you to the T ! I have learned a lot about eating healthy and I am planning to buy your book real soon. Having said that, I had the gastric bypass on November 13, 2019, it is going to be 4 months ago on March 13; and I have lost 43 pounds so far from my original weight of 229 pounds when I had the surgery. I intent to go down to 140 pounds which is my goal. I am 68 years old and I am feeling GREAT!!! I eat vegetables, fruits, my proteins, etc. all FRESH not canned. I walk everyday in a fast way so I can burn calories. Since my surgery, I don’t need to take the medications I used to take before, thank God to this surgery which which was a life saving for me. My question to you would be this: because of my age, would I be able to lose more weight to reach my goal??? Thank you very much! I appreciate your help in answering my question! As I said, never I had felt this great 👍 It is an awesome feeling. Happy in NJ.
I am starting the process towards bypass surgery and really found this video grounding and realistic. I will take my “one chip” and be careful with the gift. Really Value the chance.
Wow- I am so glad to find your videos. A lot of my concerns are addressed in them. I am 6 weeks post gastric bypass surgery. This video was good for helping with possible regain of weight, but I am having trouble loosing it for just having surgery. In my 6 weeks since surgery I have only lost 18 lbs. I am doing everything right with protein, calories (only about 575 a day) and walk over a mile plus on my feet a lot throughout the day. No snacks and of course no sugar base foods. Mostly protein meats (no red meat), cooked veggies and protein shakes. My doctors office said “don’t worry it will come off. Just give it another week.” In over 3.5 weeks, not weight loss. If fact it jumps up a pound, then will go down again. Still the same weight. Have you encountered this with other patients so early? If so, please give me some suggestions. Thanks so much!
Darla Lawson People lose at very different rates after surgery and there are many reasons why. First, your starting weight has a big impact - if you start at 350 lbs, you'll lose a lot more weight than someone who starts at 250. Also, if you lose a lot of weight before surgery, we often see less weight loss in the first few months after surgery (yes, this is counter-intuitive, but true). This video may help: th-cam.com/video/eZcUtdgt3fs/w-d-xo.html
It's so true about medication. I was always skinny then put on regular prednisone as a teenager and started gaining weight. The specialist said it doesn't permanently affect metabolism but I have now had a lifetime of gaining weight really quickly. I have not had prednisone since my early 20's and am now 46yrs. Scheduled for a VSG in May. I am positive the medication changed my bodies reaction to food.
Dr Matt - don’t know if you’ll see this thanks - but SO helpful at my 90 day post mark Start 223 5’10” 185 now - great long term strategy in entirely understandable presentation
Dr. Wiener, I'm so glad I saw your vid. I'm 2yrs post op and lapsed back into unhealthy habits which have resulted in weight gain. I've been considering asking my surgeon to X-ray my sleeve because I can eat a full plate now and even when I was at the puréed stage I was eating much more than 2-3 oz of food. Listening to you has helped me to understand the need to take my focus off of the size of my sleeve to rather what I am actually eating. I'm starting a pouch reset today..going all liquids to shrink my stomach and reset my mind that I am a Bariatric patient that had surgery to lose weight. I've been eating almost anythin I want, but still though I would lose weight because of a smaller stomach. sooo not true. I lost 50lbs then gained 16 recently. top weight 260 now I'm 226. I take Latuda, but I'm told it's not supposed to cause weight gain. ?? Also, I have back pain so I haven't been exercising lately. I'm not giving up though. I will do exercises as the pain lets up and I will focus more on what I put in my mouth.
Shineeyes, I'm also able to eat more than 2 or 3 bites (in the puree stage)and feeling I'm doing something wrong or they didn't take enough of stomach. Still losing but was wondering why I can eat more than suggested?
Great video - and so true - have gained back 20 after 8 years RNY - old foods called my name (I literally had not touched them in 7 years) and I answered back.....going to get this 20 off and more! Thanks for sharing.
How do you feel about losing weight again after 8 years post OP? Is it easier than pre-op? Do you still have any restriction or can you eat the way you used to before surgery? Thanks in advance.
my surgery is in a couple of hours...your videos has made me ready for this day, i thank you very much. I want to be committed to a healthy lifestyle and stick to home cooked healthy foods and proper exercise. However, i do believe that once in a while you could reward yourself with a treat and try to balance it with exercice or eating less throughout the day. I am definitely buying your book. Also i would like to know how is it possible to have skype consultations with you? Thank you Dr. Weiner.
Yes, I offer skype consultations. You can call my office: 248-413-2670 to set them up. It's probably best to wait until you are 3-4 months out from surgery before doing it unless you are having issues that you need help with that your surgeon is not providing.

Thank you! Dr.Weiner can't wait to have my surgery
good luck!
Thank you for this video, this is one of the most informative, I've seen. On my 4th year and I just wish I'd received more guidance. But thankfully just 10lbs of regain!
Sounds like you're doing great
Thank you for this amazing video. There's a lot of information that a lot of people don't know and can be of use after surgery in the long run. 👍👍👍
Gabriela Cabrera Thanks, that's why I made it.
I am having revision surgery in may 1 2018 from sleeve to mini gastric bypass in mexico

The band was a failure, not you. Revision to a sleeve (or gastric bypass) is a great option
I am having RNY done on November 16th and your videos are EXTREMELY helpful. I even bought your book yesterday! :D
+Stephanie F. Great, good luck!
3.5 YRS LATER, I lost 80 pds.SLEEVE CHANGED MY LIFE! DAUGHTER LOVES HER SLEEVE TOO. DR ALMANZA DID BOTH. NO PROBLEMS. TAKE ACTION NOW!
hi did you have loose skin
Brenda Slack Dr.Alamanza did mine too!! Such a miracle. 51lbs in less than 4 months so far and now hit a plateau sadly
c a l l m e k a t i e Hang in there. I hit a plateau at five months, lost three pounds only the next month. I went by my loose clothes and kept going. This month, I dropped ten pounds in two weeks! Keep eating well and exercising. It will come. Good luck 💟🌞☺
Brenda Slack you only lost 80lbs?
@@Shadeed33 That's extremely disappointing!! 3.5 years?
I wish I had this information at 6 months after surgery. I hit a plateau and stayed the same for several years. Now I am almost 4 years out and have regained 50 of a 65 pound loss. At 67 years of age, I am trying to get it off, but it is slow going. Where can I find your Metabolic Reset diet. Your video is great and should be required viewing for all bariatric surgery patients. Keep up the good work.
+Kathie Condon thanks, the diet is in my book, a pound of cure
Thank you Dr. Weiner!
Congratulations👍
Really important! I'm learning so much here, thanks Dr Weiner
You're welcome
Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this VALUABLE information.
Thank you for this! This information is so important.
This was a great video. I am out about five or six years with 25 pounds gained. I was thinking of another surgery but will now look at my nutrition and habits. Thank you for the video.
You don't need a revision you just need healthy habits
Thank you so much for this very important information Dr Weiner.
Thank you Dr Weiner! This video was sent to me by a fellow weight VSG'ER and it helps me to understand why i have not felt restriction since my surgery and why i am struggling with eating. I will follow your tips whole heatedly! Thank you so much! Dixie
vsg southerbell You're welcome. Good Luck
Thank you for sharing this excellent informational journey.
Take care. Connie
cmf1267 You have a great attitude. Maintaining your weight loss after sleeve is not easy, but it is possible!!!
Awesome video. I'm 4 days post-op. This has been very helpful. Thank you.
Thank u so much I’m having my sleeve surgery on April 29 2019
Hi I had my done 4 days a go April 30th. How are you? I Will Luke to know how do you feel 🤩

+Cathrine Jansen Sounds like you're doing great
Very well presented.
This is so important for people to see thank you
Thank you, Dr.
Glad to hear it, congrats on your amazing weight loss
Thank you :-) It sure feels good, I can tell ya that! :-)
Dr. Matthew Weiner thank you so much!
:) Lynda

So pretty much I had this surgery for no reason. Great.
+YaniBrooks it sounds like you are having some regret about your surgery. This is common, particularly in the first few weeks.
Success happens over years, not days so you will have to have patience.
MrsLaYaniJimenez you are so dumb! Thank you, is amusing!
Thanks Doc...You have enlightened me. I am 18months post Gastric Sleeve and have gained 20lbs back. I am now encouraged, thanks to you.
How much food can your stomach hold now?

@Dr. Matthew Weiner I will definitely start following your page. I have to get this weight back off. I am still much less than when I started but I am now having knee problems and when you are in pain it can become depressing.
Thank you for the great information. So helpful.
your videos are so informative. you have helped me have a better understanding of weight loss surgery.

This has been amazing and I had to share in that group due to so many expressing preemptive and post surgery "stretching." Great video! thanks!
Can you please give the name of the group? I'm considering surgery and it would be great to join a community.
Thank you so much this really helps me with my journey!

Very educative video, am weighing 94kg, planning to schedule mine Wednesday coming week...am aiming an average of 50 or 60kg
Wow, ordering the book. My RNY is scheduled on 9/21
+Deby W good luck
Fantastic video! Thank you!

I am at the 1 year mark, travel a lot and the processed food and pizza examples were dead on.
Thanks
I agree 100%, steroids can really screw up your metabolism
Excellent piece. Thank you!
Dr Matt - don’t know if you’ll see this thanks - but SO helpful at my 90 day post mark

Just got your book! Thank you.
Sounds like you've gotten yourself back on track. Good luck!
Shineeyes, I'm also able to eat more than 2 or 3 bites (in the puree stage)and feeling I'm doing something wrong or they didn't take enough of stomach. Still losing but was wondering why I can eat more than suggested?
@@apoundofcure plz guide about Bariatric Embolization?????
What's your opinion on Various types of fasting 24 hour fasts, 1 week fast. 8 hour eating window etc. For post gastric bypass. 16 months after.
Interested in this as well. Intermittent fasting mostly
very informative. thank you.
However,
i do believe that once in a while you could reward yourself with a treat and try to balance it with exercice or eating less throughout the day. I am definitely buying your book. Also i would like to know how is it possible to have skype consultations with you?
Thank you Dr. Weiner.
Yes, I offer skype consultations. You can call my office: 248-413-2670 to set them up. It's probably best to wait until you are 3-4 months out from surgery before doing it unless you are having issues that you need help with that your surgeon is not providing.
can you recommend someone in Missouri please. I'm finding it hard to find someone skilled to help with a bile problem after gallbladder surgery:(
