I was born with it due to complications at birth. This has been a hard thing to deal with. Wish more people knew what it was and how much it can affect your life. I was told I wouldn’t live and now I’m 18. Now going to study to be a RDN

Thank you, this is VERY informative. I was in a head-on collision with a semi 6 months ago and lost 185cm of my small intestine and part of my colon from the seat belt. I have 180cm left and never thought I would be wearing diapers at 37yo. I broke my right talus, 1 left toe, 2 right toes, both femurs, right ilium, a left rib, 3 backbones, and my right wrist. My biggest problem is finding a gastroenterologist to help me with this😢

I was born with short bowel syndrome all of my intestines were on the outside I don't have much left and later on I got internal bleeding as an oustanding complication and that meant more of my intestines were removed I have 32 surgical scars after all that I have had done. It's hard because this condition is so rare and just because they haven't heard of it they don't care or believe me even after I show them the scars.

I’m 15 and out of nowhere my gut twisted up and became septic. After being airlifted to a bigger hospital and almost dying of blood loss I woke up from the surgery. I have about 3 feet left but 18 inches of it is floating around unattached. Thank you for explaining how scary this can be, some people have to live using nutrient bags (TPN) for life. I might get lucky and be semi back to normal.

@@Soni-fe3ci to survive without tpn you have to have enough small intestine left. If you eat food after 2-4 years your small intestine can get trained enough to absorb more nutrients from food. My parents say they don’t know but the doctors said I needed 10 units of blood, this happened before and after my life flight. The only reason I can survive without tpn is because I have small intestine left in my body. Transplants are rare but can happen. I wish the best of luck and am praying for you, your child and your family.

Now he is losing weight and getting extreme thirst docters said tpn damages his organs so they stop tpn

@@Soni-fe3ciI hope you can make it through this, my case was a lot different from your child’s case, I don’t know exactly how everything works for him. I lost a lot of weight to, it’s not the end.

Nice video, I have 5% of my bowel because I had a tumor as a baby, so the doctors had to remove 95% of my bowel so now I have Short Bowel Syndrome.

@@Soni-fe3ci I simply cannot gain weight, I'm also not able to eat properly as I'm not allowed about 70% of foods. I had cpr when I was younger, then I was put into a month coma, but I highly recommend your baby goes onto tpn, it is a machine that connects wires into you but it pumps fluids into you, it honestly saved my life. sorry if I couldn't help. Hope your baby will be ok.

@@ErickMendoza-gb3ez The pain will be there for a while. Does she have an ileostomy? The change in diet will be an adjustment, for me high sugar and high added fat foods are very bad. Her doctor should be able to prescribe a prescription strength anti diarrhea medication.
