Generally, you're going to want to get 3 stars gold on all the Grand Prix in 150 and 200cc. However, it is better to work your way up to it through 50cc etc. These sorts of videos are only going to be truly helpful once you're already pretty good at the game. Honestly, the shortcut isn't so bad after I found out how you should approach it. Used to suffer hours on end in time trials, until I figured out you should wait a tiny bit before you hop after releasing the mini-turbo
Okay, I struggled with this track 5 years ago and consulted TH-cam. TH-cam remembered and recommended this video. Thanks TH-cam, but I won that local tournament and moved on. And no, I will not attempt this shortcut.

@@Bayesic Once again, when you say shortcut, do you mean NISC, or are we talking all shortcuts to include shroom cuts? Your terminology makes it confusing.
@@JCBro-yg8vd yeah I mean if we’re talking world record strats there’s definitely some stuff that’s much harder than this shortcut, but this is definitely one of the harder non WR things to do imo
I only ever do the Super mini turbo method now. Maybe if I started emulating so I could save state at the glider section I would eventually get it, but playing on console, I'm sick and tired of restarting and doing all the usual crap through the rest of the track just to screw up at the NISC jump. Good video though.
Yeah it’s definitely obnoxious. Especially on tracks like grumble volcano where there’s a shortcut that literally only opens up at the very end of the run

"took me more than 11 hours to get on all 3 laps." that makes me feel a little bit better that my pleb ass couldn't get this shortcut down a single lap in 2 hours of trying lol.
So I’ll definitely be doing the DLC but probably after a couple months when the strats settle in a bit more As for Mario kart 9 yeah assuming that I’m still making videos whenever that happens, I’ll probably do those as well :-)
I have some questions about the NISC if anyone knows how to ansewer them I'll be really pleased :) : 1) For the Neutral Hop, do I have to keep pressing the R/ZR button while in the air or is it just once and quick click? 2) I feel like there are some times which my kart gets a good hight on the jump over the grass, but sometimes it almost doesn't goes up whenever I hop. Does it has to do with the direction from my joystick at the moment of the Hop, how early/late I released the MT, not keep pressing R/ZR button while in the jump, or something else? Ps: I don't know if its actually the that the Kart doesn't go high enough or if it is just that he loses speed and doesn't go far enough
My guess would be that you’re not jumping early enough which is why you’re not getting height As for the actual technique, as long as you’ve done the set up properly it should just be a “release the MT, and then quickly press R/ZR once”
@@Bayesic Cool. Just asking because I mainly play mkwii and they usually use Shroomless there. But makes sense that different games will have slightly different lingo
@@ericastrue4527 I think nisc probably became more popular just because it’s a bit more general since you can take shortcuts with other items like stars
Long story short I want to play mk8 again, much like how I can still play celeste so to do this I tried to find the easiest track. This is where I am now...
Is there some type of optimal way to do this shortcut that's supposed to be hard? I just hopped on time trials and did this shortcut 3 laps in a row on my third time trial attempt (never tried this shortcut before ever). Maybe it really is just that reliant on setup, in which case, absolutely fantastic tutorial! Edit: When I say did the shortcut I mean I managed to get through the offroad, trick off the ramp, and land on the other side. 150cc still.
I'm also assuming you meant without using a mushroom otherwise yeah the shortcut is trivial in that case haha So like I mention in the video, once you have a consistent setup, the shortcut itself is really not that difficult to do. I can get 3/3 probably once every 2 or 3 attempts now. I really have no idea WHY this setup helped me out so much, only that it did lol. But for some context, last time I checked on speedrun.com, none of the top 10 or so runners in the 48 track or nitro track categories even attempted this shortcut, and there was only one Flower Cup speedrunner that I saw use it. Most runners don't even attempt one of the easier versions that I cover at the end of the video So the trick is generally inconsistent enough outside of time trials that there are basically no speed runners that do it, and they attempt some pretty precise tricks
Actually i’d be surprised, but the shortcut is also pretty difficult to hit properly on 200 mL as well. It’s not so much the shortcut itself, because you can literally drive over the grass, it’s doing it in such a way that you don’t run into the wall or the off-road after the shortcut that’s the tricky bit
Does anyone have a video on like counter hopping, say you are hugging a left wall and you turbo to the left you are like hopping right and then get another drift left

The only time you're not doing this is at the start of the lap (see the next step) 2) Mushroom through the very first turn and grab the three coins on the right hand side of the track 3) Grab the next four coins on the outside of the last turn of the lap 4) Drift over the grass on every turn from here on out.
