I can tell you're very good at what you do, because I was captivated by this video even though I watch one anime a year, and don't know a single thing about football. And now I want to check out Blue Lock!! Every new video is so strong, keep up the good work!! 💪💪
Thank you so much, that’s great to hear! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and yeah Blue Lock is definitely worth checking out. It’s kind of like an anti-spokon in that it’s about selfishly chasing your goals rather than relying on team spirit. I was sceptical at first but it soon had me hooked. The anime isn’t the best thing you’ll ever see in terms of how it looks (there’s a dip in animation quality as it goes on), but the characters and story make up for that!
I started watching the anime the day it came out, but when the 'Blue Lock is Real' hype came around my enjoyment of the show shot through the roof. It was already really popular but you couldn't ask for a better marketing push than real world events like that. Great video rundown! Hope the manga makes it to the next world cup
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it! I’m jealous that you got to follow the whole journey from the first episode through the World Cup, I didn’t get into Blue Lock until a little later. I’ve always been a Captain Tsubasa fan and I was like, "Nothing will ever beat that for me so why even bother" 😅 But people kept talking about it so I gave it a shot and loved it. (PS thanks for being a returning viewer!)
Haha thanks, the little Mickey on Indy’s shoulder was a last minute addition! I’m glad you liked the video, it’s definitely an interesting story the way it just kind of became this perfect storm with Japan doing so well at the World Cup. Is Jagaan worth checking out?
I’m curious to know if Inazuma 11 and/or Captain Tsubasa had a similar effect when they first dropped. Ik Inazuma 11 had a large audience in the west because it was always on tv when I was growing up.
I’m not sure about how much of an impact they made in Japan at the time but I know that Captain Tsubasa definitely had an influence on some future players in the west -- Lukas Podolski, Alessandro Del Piero, Alexis Sanchez, and Fernando Torres were all fans when they were kids. What’s cool is that Torres has said that he started playing football because of it! He said: “I remember when I was a kid, we couldn't find the signal really well on TV, but everyone in school was talking about this cartoon about football, from Japan. It was a series called Oliver y Benji in Spain, and in Japan it was Captain Tsubasa, and these two young players started as youth team players, got into the national team, won the World Cup, and moved to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, then moved to Europe, so it was like a dream. I started playing football because of this, and because my brother forced me, and I loved the cartoon. I wanted to be Oliver, because he played out on the field and Benji was the goalkeeper. That was the first contact I had with Japan.” Crazy to think that Torres may never have played if he hadn't watched it!
Yeah, there are some better football manga/anime out there for purists. I think it was just a case of right place, right time for Blue Lock with the World Cup, and the whole Battle Royale thing helps it appeal to people who maybe aren’t coming just for the love of the game. I still think it’s great, but Ao Ashi is for sure more realistic. I love Giant Killing too.
You are very underrated the quality of the videos is very good please continue
Thank you, that means a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I’m working on the next one right now!

@@ArchieTalksAnime jagaan is incredibly edgy but ultimately I think it's worth checking out

@@ArchieTalksAnime Sergio kun Aguero got that from the japanese affix. He too was a big Tsubasa fan

Thank you bro, I appreciate that 🙏
Amazing.
Hajime No Ippo better no diff
Ao Ashi is so much better and doesn't need a stupid unrealistic Battle Royale gimmick.

Blue Lock was Squid Games meets Soccer right as the World Cup fever peaked and Squid Game blew up
