Christian Bale RUINED Howl’s Moving Castle! My Studio Ghibli Hot Take
Howl’s Moving Castle is one of my favourite Studio Ghibli films, but I’ve got a huge problem with Disney’s dub: Christian Bale. While I love his other work, Bale’s take on Howl ruins the English language version of this classic Miyazaki movie for me. It’s an unpopular opinion, but just hear me out -- though, fair warning, watching this video might just ruin the dub for you!
00:00 Is Howl’s Moving Castle the best Disney dub?
01:20 Christian Bale’s method acting is insane
01:49 Why does Howl sound exactly like Batman?
03:13 Dubbing anime in English is difficult
04:11 Christian Bale is a big Hayao Miyazaki fan
05:37 Why does Howl have an American accent?
07:05 Fantasy and British accents go hand in hand
08:02 Who does Christian Bale voice in The Boy and the Heron?
08:32 The best English dub actor in a Ghibli movie

In this video, I take a deep dive into Hayao Miyazaki’s life-changing trips to the U.K. and explore how these visits impacted two of his films in particular. Joe Hisaishi: Studio Ghibli's Music Maestro | A Short Documentary

The films of Hayao Miyazaki wouldn’t be the same without the music of his friend and long-time collaborator Joe Hisaishi. The composer is synonymous with Ghibli, having created the studio’s most memorable scores, but he sometimes doesn’t get the recognition that he deserves. I took a deep dive into Hisaishi’s life and career, from his childhood and teenage years to his breakthrough in Japan and...
How BLUE LOCK defeated ONE PIECE to become Japan's BEST-SELLING manga!

Blue Lock was the best-selling manga in Japan in 2023, with sales exceeding 10 million. It’s an engrossing series with a great anime adaptation, but the truth is that Blue Lock got a helping hand on its way to the top. Here’s how it overtook the likes of One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen to claim the manga crown: It's a football (or soccer, for my American friends) love story. If you enjoy the video...
Why Does Miyazaki HATE America? Ghibli Founder's USA Beef EXPLAINED

I was in Japan in 1985 and got to see Kaze No Tano No Nausicaa on the big screen. It made me a Miyazaki fan for life. I have the British dub of Laputa (Castle in the Sky) and prefer it to the Disney dub. But, and this is a big but, I prefer to watch my Ghibli, and other anime, in the original Japanese with subtitles. Dubs tend to lose cultural signs and tend to be too noisy with excessive speech filling up silences. The stunt casting that Disney/Pixar did is laughably bad. Except for Cloris Leachman, Mark Hamill, Lea Salonga, Kiki Dunst and Anne Hathaway. Bet you can't guess where Kiki Dunst picked up that nickname. Glad to see G-Kids doing well with all of their work.

Wow that’s so cool that you got to see the original in the cinema while in Japan! So jealous. I totally agree re the Disney dubs. Dubbing anime is a real skill that legit voice actors take years to perfect. These Hollywood actors jumping on the Ghibli bandwagon coz it’s cool now don’t know the first thing about dubbing and it shows. In fact I just did a video about how Christian Bale ruined Howl’s Moving Castle - I hate his performance in the Disney dub so much!

  • @digitalsidequest
    @digitalsidequest 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

His anger at the US stems from the people he worked with or had to deal with. They represent the US and its culture for him. If those experiences were bad, that sour feeling is always going to be there. He is after all an artist who lives perfection and expects the same at work and in behavior. In other words, the character and principles are important and these are usually missing in people who have no focus.

i came in expecting his views on Indiana Jones to be cringe, they're my favorite films ever besides a few anime films, but his criticisms of Indiana Jones are the fairest and best you can give - the scene where Belloq and Indy are in a restaurant in Raiders is a really good scene for the tension between the two characters to grow, but the way Indy refers to Arabic people in it always makes me uncomfortable. there's probably multiple other examples you can give of these uncomfortable moments, but i'll still always love indiana jones. they're master class movies in terms of action, adventure, and funny moments.

Miyazaki has always been a middlingly talented, pompous, scumbag. Hates America but had no issue profiting off of the country and making American money. Imagine hating and loathing an entire country of people simply because you have surface level experience and interaction with them. Aww, poor baby was born after the War. And? To carry that disconnected hatred into the latter years of your life is ignorant. It would be like me hating all Europeans because my ancestor's land was taken from them. It's ignorance. He owes his current world-wide status to the American audience. Because let's be honest, if it wasn't for America, he would not be known outside of Japan. This is all quite ironic when you take into consideration what the Japanese did to the Chinese and the Koreans for almost a half-century...
