Years ago I was going into Asheville ILS and was over the VOR in a strong downdraft and was sinking. I called the tower and they said “it’s ok, when you clear the VOR the downdraft will stop”. They were right!

For some reason I think you used to be a fighter pilot. If that’s so, you are the best at crew coordination among former fighter pilots that I have flown with. Usually they have trouble with that transition and sometimes never really embrace it. Why was the other pilot playing with the trim on short final? Should be stable by then and trimmed for approach speed long before that which also serves as V2 for the go around or balked landing.. I think the callouts and coordination were much better when you were the pilot monitoring - pilot flying should touch nothing except the yoke, thrust levers, rudders and heading bug when auto pilot is on. When you were the pilot flying in the beginning you did touch the FMS but coordinated with the pilot monitoring as you did it. Very good. Awesome points: warming up the car for the FO! :-) That shows a great attitude by a captain. That cockpit was organized and whistle clean. Getting to the plane with lots of time to prepare and leave time for unexpected problems. Excellent! There’s a huge difference between a mere pilot in command and a captain. Good job.
Jets such as this are time machines. For a number of years my company often flew me to multiple destinations within a day in the lower 48 states. Alaska trips were another story. Ground transportation was always prearranged thus making it possible to perform technical operations at three or four sites within two regions, and still home in time for dinner. Our jets were beautiful on the outside but not so glamorous on the inside - workhorses. Always flown by a professional pilot and a co-pilot.

Hi Captain. When the pilot in command calls for gear down the pilot monitoring replies 3 green. Some of the larger aircraft-- B-747, DC-10/MD 11, and L1011 have an additional landing gear to support the weight of the plane. So when the pilot in command calls for gear down does the pilot monitoring reply 4 green or do they say something else?
