I really like this video. Great instructions! Thanks for the great content. I’m a woodworker but I just bought a welder. I might need to have a go at this.
Really nice work man! I just looked up how much the bender cost, it will pay for itself in no time! Thanks for sharing I really feel like I could go out and start making hair pin legs.
I love the fixture you rigged up. Looks like you went with a $90ish bender. I see one at HF currently that is lighter duty and runs $40ish. Would that one work for this? I’m trying to keep cost down and also find a bench mountable option. My floor space is at a premium. Thanks and keep up the good work.
The price has gone up. The $50 bench top model looks like the same bender without the base. I would go with that one if you want to make hairpin legs. The $40 one is different, but it says it will handle up to 1/2" round. What is apparent to me about it though is that you won't be able to get much more than a 90º bend out of it.
I got them at a hardware store that was going out of business. Now I get them from a hardware supply on line. The price changes every time I search so i just go with whoever is cheapest.
Only thing to watch out for is those L's are zinc coated and the smoke from the welding is really toxic so good ventilation is VERY important. The Zinc burning up is where the black schmoo is around the welds.
True but Zinc fumes can be very serious, rather than just bad. Just a heads up. Generally welders will grind off or chemically remove zinc and other galvanizing metals if possible. With stick and MIG you can get away with leaving them, TIG not so much.
great job Marsh you'll save a fortune making those legs. I might even order some through you instead at a slightly reduced price of course hahaha. when's your sticker update coming out?
I appreciate that, and I was going to, but a friend had given me a $50 gift card and with the coupon I was into it less than $20. Too cheap to pass up. Thanks for watching!
hairpin legs are cheaper to me than the time i'd spend making my own, but i also live in the SF Bay, so it's all relative. sacramento is definitely cheaper. if i am not earning at least $50-60/hr I'd rather buy it.
Plastic masonry drill. That’s hilarious. I always wonder how long stuff lasts when I hear folks talkin about cheap tools from those heat big stores in the us.
Many years back when I was an apprentice a guy told me. Buy good old used quality stuff if you can’t buy new. And leave the disposable stuff. I did. I’ve some old hitachi drills & grinders made in Japan 20 yrs going strong. Still easy get parts and fix them up. My brother in law has a truck load of cheap power tools gone to the dumpster. .
Actually, there is way worse you could do, but what makes you think I would breathe ANY welding fumes? You can't see the fan behind me, but you can see the fumes blowing away from me. Surprised you didn't notice that.
I don't mean to hurt your feelings Wildman, but, based on your answer, it's pretty obvious that you don't have much shop experience. To anyone watching, use "un-coated" materials. Never zinc or galvanized.
Great new product. I hope you sell a million of them.
Thanks for the video. Great idea on the jig.
Love it. Caught you over on Pappy's Corner. They're maybe overused as a leg, but with good reason - elegance of simplicity. Great vid.

Careful, you may find yourself in the hairpin leg business!
Hi, nice work, look so good. I hope you sell a lot of them! 👍🏻
I also notice you don't use body protection when welding. I am brand new to welding. Is it not necessary?

Hey body you are doing a GOOD work, keep the good work you give me a good idea Thank you
Marsh - looking great. Would love to check it out
You're in the area, stop by some time.
How did you make the welding table?

Great tutorial! Can't beat that bending machine from Harbor Freight. Where did you get the L brackets that were welded to the legs?
I got them at a hardware store that was going out of business. Now I get them from a hardware supply on line. The price changes every time I search so i just go with whoever is cheapest.
I've now started making my own
Great lesson. Which way did you move the center point mark on your second try? To the left or right?
I've tried everything. I have to cut them long and trim them to length. I have hundreds of 1-1/2" pieces.
In your video you move the center point from 18" to 18.5". You came up even once you moved .5" Which way did you move? Thank you!
Results are not consistent no matter which way I move it. That's why I make them long then trim them.
We stopped making ours because they’re selling for so cheap. I can’t take the time to make them for $30 a set. Great video.
That is wild man !! I like it.

Welding fumes are pretty nasty whether you're welding zinc or not. If you smell anything at all while you're welding, you need better ventilation.
True but Zinc fumes can be very serious, rather than just bad. Just a heads up. Generally welders will grind off or chemically remove zinc and other galvanizing metals if possible. With stick and MIG you can get away with leaving them, TIG not so much.
What king of welding machine is that? I don't know enough about welding to know.
Nothing worth mentioning I assure you. Just use whatever you have that works.
Good job.

Your's is the only one I've got in months. I sent a batch out recently. Hopefully some will come back and I'll do an update.
I'm liking the success! Keep it up! Later, Murph
I can buy a set of 4 for $25 online. If I buy these from you - how much would you charge for sets of 10? Shipped to Muncie Indiana.
Thanks
I won't ship them. I'm certain there are people local to you making them also. Thanks for your interest.
Great!!!
I must admit that I expected you to make the bending machine as well as the legs. But that machine works great

I can knock out a set of four 16" hairpins in half an hour at a cost of about $8. They sell for four times that.
@@WildmanTech so thats $48/hr. Decent :)
nice nice

It’s a Craftsman!
Those real big stores I should say. Predictive text is so unpredictable 😂

Nice video 🙌
I mounted mine to one end of a 4 ft. 6x2 and just drive my car over the other end.
Breathing the toxic fumes from those coated L's is about the worst thing you can do.
Actually, there is way worse you could do, but what makes you think I would breathe ANY welding fumes? You can't see the fan behind me, but you can see the fumes blowing away from me. Surprised you didn't notice that.

@@tribalconcrete Breathing ANY welding fumes is a bad idea because they are all poisonous. I use a ventilation fan.
