It was very easy after waching the video. My battery was dead this morning, and it uses a standard CR2032 battery which are used in computers and in a lot of small household stuff. Very usefull
Be careful guys. The immobilizer (that small part on 5:28) is not that easy to take out. I also shattered mine. It was glued, and it's body is very fragile. So when I tried to lift it like it is shown in the video (using the screwdriver) I simply broke it. Dude who made this video had to place at least a comment about it!
Cheers mate your video was exscellent.When i got my cases i only changed the bottom half on them for the metal piece at the bottom to put a key ring on.Those bits were missing on my old set.Did not risk moving immobilizer from top half in case i wrecked both keys.But cheers anyways mate.
I did exactly what he did I had a new key given to me when I bought my 2005 jetta I had it for almost a year didn't know how to change anything until I watched this it ended up only being a dead battery thanks a lot!
Just swapped mine over after following this video. As Jeff mentioned, the transponder was glued in so I had to cut it out carefully. Also, the circuit board did not just fall out I had to gently pry it off the two black diagonally opposed studs - it's all done however my existing key in the new case does not flick out despite the spring tension hopefully it will ease up a bit with use.

Thanks, good video. I was asked by the neighbor lady to repair this. I have to silver solder the key onto the little rotary thingy. Hell, apparently I don't know how to spell thingy, they wont let me put two g's into it.
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING: While this is great video, there is a HUGE GOTCHA that you must be warned of. Removing that glass transponder is a nightmare to deal with in many keys. Mine is super glued in heavily and deeply bathing it inside the nail polish remover for over 30 minutes only helped to soften limited area, and the transponder is not budging when I try to wiggle it out. I know any pressure will easily crack this fragile piece. I've been wiggling with this part for 1 hour now with no success, and trying to figure how to break this thing apart ever so gently so that I can remove that transponder.
I had heated mine up with a hair dryer and then cut out one end with a knife to then pry the transponder up and then out. When I put it in the next two fob, I place it in it's little testing spot with the clear and towards the front of the key and then buried it in hot glue.
Anyone know if you can make a copy of that key? I got only one key when i bought my car , a vw passat 2002 so need another one at least .. the one i have it's exatly the same as the one in video.
hi, so i have a 2000 volks passat px 4 motion.. my automatic key stopped opening my door. i thought the battery died and repmaced it but still wouldnt work. i them tried the fuses amd the fuse #38 wasnt broken at all. ibe read in my booklet but camt seem to figure out what i need to do. can i fix the one i jabe or do o need to order a new automatic key? cor now ibe been having to manutally lock it and keep to the right until i hear it lock amd my alarm be set, and unlocking i do the same except to the left side. please help because i camt find any videos but yours that helped a bit bit still doesnt show if the one you jad was broken, or if you were just repmacing with newer parts, and if there is a reseting button or mif somethi,g in my car has to be fixed. it just worked one day amd in the same day, it stopped working. any info would be appreciated:) thnx
put it in the key hole, turn to the right to lock hokd it in that position then press the unlock button on the key fob it should work. can be it lost pairing with the car that will fix it.

This car has,been with a few owners b4 me amd the man i bought it from, i believe he acted like he sold it independently but when i got the note of sale, i recognized it had a dealership name amd dealers number instead of the dudes name. And my mom was the one who actually purchased it for me thru pictures.... Coypme,months after the key stopped working, and foumd that the alternater went out and killed my battery. It showed the ABS light, Battery light, amd emgine light with lughtening bolt thru it. Bought the new battery the ABS light wemt out. It wasnt holding charge and thats how we figured it was,alyernater. Replaced that amd everythimg was fine until layer that day after i drove it home,my nattery light came,bacm on. Amd my left blinker was,blinking super fast. I brought out back to the auto place and they didnt tell me what they actually did other then saying they fixed the battery light and blinker bulb which did read that the vlinker will blink 3 times fast if light is out akd now its ok. Now i just need to fix my keyless entry keys. I think it meeds to be recomouted with a,code with all 3 keys, well it said in my little tiny,manual that u need all 3 keys to have that done. So anyway, i tried wjat u said about homding to the right inside keyhole and pressed unlock. And i tried,cpuple tomes but still no luck... Any other suggestions, amd or pricing on how mucj amd where to take it for getting it done. If i need a special place other then vlks dealer becuz i didnt get from them, amd cant afford it i dont think from them.. This keyless emtry key is really warn out btw, there indemts on the,lock amd unlock buttons lol

i like trains, there is no fix to it. So I was left with my spare key.

Do you have to replace the whole thing, or can you just replace the bottom part and reconnect it to the old upper part?

+Oneness Mind I think you have to cut it near with a hacksaw and then use a craft knife, I agree it is difficult in some keys
