Just the fact that you still think that doc that Joaquin did was real, is a testament to his talent. That wasnt a documentary, it was a mockumentary. It was a movie and he fooled everyone with it at the time. He was playing a character the whole time.

That was our first movie we watched at film school. Just from the way the documentary was obviously narrated I thought people couldn't think it was real. Then again if you don't know I can see how it can come off as genuine as Phoenix is just a exceptional actor.

This is Joaquin’s take. He’s even said he doesn’t care what comic book fans think of his performance, he is doing his own thing here. That’s a professional.
It is an insult to say “he’s taking from heath ledger”.
Also, that “rapper documentary” was all acting. The fact you thought that was real shows how amazingly talented he is.

    • @xSkittles4mex

Personally, this is exactly what I've been wanting a lot more of when it comes to comics based movies for a long time. Standalone films, not part of an interconnected universe or larger franchise, which are just their own, unique take on a character. Not meant to be definitive, just its own thing.

This is definitely an Elseworlds type storyline.
I'd look into character study of this as Martin Scorsese who is a producer on this which in this trailer has the tone of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, which stars Robert DeNiro in both, plus a little twist of The Killing Joke graphic novel. DeNiro is the Comedy Show Host in this movie.
I think they can use the idea for a Batman film because Joker is supposed to be 12-15 years older than Bruce Wayne who's the boy he tries to make a smile on . Zazie Beatz might turn into Harley Quinn if she utters a line in the Diner scene like, "That's funny Mr. J" and he responds like, "Mr. J?" and she replies back, "You know, J as in Joker..."
It's Rated R supposedly so it's going to have some violence in it for sure.

Love the fact that their going with the whole mental illness, depressed bullied Joker story. It’s a lot darker & relatable than just the fact that he fell into a tub of toxic chemicals. Now here’s my theory breakdown of the trailer. Now we see in the beginning how he is pushed to his breaking point by the way society is treating him. I believe the man on the TV talking about “The coward behind the mask” is Thomas Wayne. Now the Joker sees this & feels attacked, so he pays a visit to Wayne Manor where I believe the little boy that he’s making the smile on his face, is young Bruce. We see him playing with a gun in the scene where the man on the TV is talking about him..NOW, what if that man is intact Thomas Wayne & the little boy is Bruce Wayne? What if the Joker was offended by Thomas’s comments towards him & feels that he needs to make an example with Gotham’s most beloved family AND what if in this movie HE’S the one that kills Martha & Thomas Wayne in front of young Bruce in the alleyway after the theater. Bruce was right around the same age as the boy in the movie when his parents were murdered.

  • @whywelovefilm7079
    @whywelovefilm7079 5 ปีที่แล้ว

What I love about him is the Joker makeup. I hate comparing them, but Heath Ledger never really had a reason to wear the makeup. His hands had white marks meaning he applied on himself everyday, but never really explained why. Joaquin Phoenix though, he has a reason for applying the makeup. He was a clown way before he was the Joker. He was wearing the makeup before he became the Joker.
Also, the fingers in the mouth where a forces a smile. It's because he's had a terrible and sad laugh and he believes that he's supposed to bring happiness to the World. That's what his Mom told him and he worships her. So he puts his fingers in his mouth to force a smile even though he can't have one naturally. Another reason for applying the Joker makeup. He's supposed to bring happiness to the World but he can't even smile. That's why he's crying when he forces the smile. So what's the next best thing? Put on makeup so it looks like you're always smiling.
Fcking genius. This movie is going to be AMAZING!

Oh you gotta love the foreshadowing/irony of that man on the TV. That's Thomas Wayne talking about the Joker followers terrorizing the city while wearing masks, calling them "cowards." When down the road when he becomes older, his son Bruce is going to return to Gotham wearing a mask to fight those criminals and terrorizers.

This is not canon to the DCEU. It is considered "Elseworlds" in approach. My thoughts: The only thing canon was stated in "The Killing Joke" - The Joker prefers his origin & past to be multiple choice. This movie simply explores one of those choices.
I think it is absolutely brilliant for Warner Bros to have Elseworlds movies. It allows for serious in depth character analysis as an art form without any continuity pressures or constraints a shared universe would require.
I see inspiration from Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, & Heath Ledger if I had to make comparisons - but Joaquin Phoenix stands on his own merit here. His performance looks incredible.
This trailer is epic, IMO. They should create an award category for teaser trailers just so they can hand one to "Joker".

It's puzzling that so many reactors or those whom claim to follow films have no idea about particular projects. "I didn't know anything about this movie." How can anyone be so invested in the comic book movie genre however miss so much information about this film? The next thing is the theory that (Phoenix) is playing a guy that will go on to inspire the real Joker. No guys...Phoenix is the Joker in this film. Another theory that is thrown at there is that maybe or maybe not this film is connected to the already established cinematic universe. No once again. WB announces that it was it's own solo feature outside the existing continuity when it was first greenlit. For some reason fans, reactors, and the likes want to throw around that WB keeps going back and forward on the placement of this film. No once again it's just you all.
