- Dear friends, I hope you are doing great! Yesterday, Buffet-Crampon launched our new baby, a new B Flat clarinet designed by Buffet’s R&D team composed by Michel Arrignon, @meyerpaul, myself and a very special artist, the one and only @martin.frost ✨
This clarinet is really special, a low E Flat for a rich and opened low register, a brand new cylindrical bore giving you the deep sound of a basset clarinet and the homogeneity of a German clarinet and many other exciting features. But I guess the best is to listen to it and Buffet asked me to imagine a special arrangement for Michel, Martin and me as Paul Meyer was touring in Japan at the moment. And I immediately thought about arranging the slow movement of Bach concerto for 2 violins, with its endless magical phrases. This video was a part of the live stream we had yesterday at the factory in Mantes, with the beautiful pictures of the Kossarov productions.

I was a clarinet prodigy headed towards being a soloist until severe mental illness stole that from me. I always loved Bach and wished he wrote for the clarinet. This, here, is my dream. Couldn’t be more beautiful and powerful all at once. I’m crying.
No words to describe the beauty of this music, fantastic arragement. The clarinets confer a sweetness you can't get with the other instruments.

Martin's articulation in the beginning is world class. Its subtle but yet adds something light and unique.

Beauuuuutiful arrangement and performance, what a great way to start the day! You three prove once again that the modern clarinet can claim a spot among the finest baroque music instruments. From now on, whenever someone asks me for the meaning of "in good hands", I will point them to this video as the perfect definition of Bach and clarinets being in good hands.

I really like the sound, it does feel like a basset clarinet especially above long B, that kind of "woody" sound that the historical instruments have.
So basically buffet is reinventing the full-bohem clarinet but with less features?
Essentially what I was going to comment as well. I am intrigued by the german bore tuning though.

Mon clarinetiste préféré qui joue avec Frost... Wow, quelle belle surprise!
Le baroque a occupé une grande place dans mes gouts musicaux, surtout dans la vingtaine. J'étudiais les échecs, pour devenir expert, sur du Bach. Près de 3 000 heures d'étude toutes sur du Bach. Je suis devenu expert d'échecs dans cette période, passant d'un élo de 1820 à un elo de 2103 en moins de 3 ans... J'ai une maladie mentale je pense ahahaha!!!!
Il y a 4 ans, j'ai commencé à jouer la clarinette. Je suis de niveau intermédiaire en ce moment. 3 heures de pratique par semaine, ce n'est pas beaucoup... mais, je commence à avoir du plaisir à interpréter des pièces intermédiaires très jolies.
Et donc..
