I rewatched ALL her lines several times over when I watch the movie. "I've been around the station a few times." the tone. the eye contact. flawless!
I'll normally watch reactions because it's like watching a cliffnotes version of a show/movie I enjoy. I actually enjoyed this almost as much as I enjoy the movie. Freaking awesome, thanks. And hearing how genuinely British it is - and I know...British-produced, British stars, etc. - from y'all for some reason made my Texan heart enjoy it that much more. So thanks and best wishes, from across the pond.
Not just British, at that. He was told he had to have more big name stars in it (bit rude because it s full of VERY well known actors and actresses) and two of the oscar winners were unrecognisable - the new Zealnd director peter jackson, and the Australian actress Cate Blanchet. the third had yet to win hers - Olivia Colman, who played Doris, incidentally for a film with "girl on girl action" - The Favourite.
I always found it hilarious that the plot implies that the NWA has been using Old Arthur Webley's farm as a dumping ground for their weapons (hence him randomly finding them), while also making a layered meta joke with the sea mine. It wasn't uncommon to find unexploded bombs from Kent to Oxford, let alone on the Continent, but just finding an old *sea mine in a field in Gloucestershire was such a stupidly heightened and specific joke that I couldn't help but love it. 😂
Actually it is fused as a contact mine That’s why it explodes when I it rolls over next to Edward Woodward and the fuse horn gets pressed in. Speaking of great Edward Woodward films to review - The Wicker Man and Breaker Morant
@@shawnmiller4781 Shoot. Okay, so, here's my misunderstanding: honestly, I thought all contact mines in that style were magnetized to some extent because I expected the... What do they call them, Hertz Horns? I thought they could get so corroded with seawater that the "bump" didn't always matter if they sat for too long, so the mines still needed a little extra force, and that was why galvanizing became so important. No, that's my bad, I just thought these models still had at least some magnetic pull to assist. I amended the comment for the magnet part but I'm leaving all of this added context because it's just good for the correction. 😅
@@shawnmiller4781 Oh I do know, as hard to recognize as the original Equalizer is. The cast is absolutely stacked, though. I think my favorites are still a tie between Billie Whitelaw and Paul Freeman, but Dalton chews the scenery in the best way for the set up. It's just... Everything? Lol
There is no suggestion that Webley's guns came from the NWA at all, they are just the kind of thing a crotchetty old farmer might have stashed away from years of his family collecting them in wartime etc. They're covered in dust and Webley makes no comment about them not being his. Also, the NWA seem to be more than capably armed as it is. Webley's gun stash is just a convenient way to introduce some non-standard issue weaponry into the final battle. Webley is a well-known UK gun manufacturer btw.
One of the things I love about this film is that most viewers going in completely blind never catch the Kate Blanchett cameo at the beginning of the film. I know I didn’t!
Thank you for this, I was having the worst evening and now my fave people are watching my fave movie. Also Hannah is right. I grew up in a country village, moved away for ten years and when I went back I'd always get the hellos like I'd never left 😂

Hannah is correct, up here in Yorkshire we'll talk to you on the bus, i remember having to go down to London for a work meeting and saying hello to someone on the tube, the scared look i got from them was as if i was an alien threatening to eat them 😂
I thought it was common knowledge all over that you don't talk on the tube. I live 18 miles west of Bristol and I know that. Clearly someone didnt get the memo lol.
The opening insights to their relationship cracks me up. Ash basically informed his he got waterboarded with light at 2am. That’s a prolonged interrogation tactic. Man must always be checking his corners when walking about the house. 😂
Hannah & Ash getting a taste of that West Country Lifestyle 😉 I Agree with Hannah, this is a very British style comedy / sarcastic humour kind of film, but what was also surprising is how well this film did in America aswell.
This is basically "Symbolisms" the movie 😆 One of the best callbacks is when Danny says he feels like he's missing out on gun fights and car chases. And then later they have a gun fight during a car chase 🤣
"He had one thing you havent got. A great big bushy beard!". There are so many funny lines in this and everything is set up and pays off brilliantly. A great comedy.
Hannah, no joke what you are describing in the beginning with the 'two big gulps' is the textbook definition of OCD. People think OCD is just liking your pencils facing the same direction, or or organizing your closet by color, but its not any of those. It's specifically characterized by a illogical but overpowering "sense of doom", where you fully believe that if you dont act upon the urge then something "bad" will happen, even though it doesn't make any sense. So you may not know it, but welcome to the OCD club lol. We have even numbers and lots of light switches to flick 46 times
Literally everything in this movie is a Chekov's Gun, even the "everyone and their mum's is packin' [firearms] round 'ere" "who?" "farmers" "who else?" "farmer's mums"... who does Angel deal with first after getting his shades but a farmer and his mum both armed lol The "ginger nut" is also "Aaron A Aaronson" ("dyou want us to go through the 'ole phone book?") Such a tight and witty script
I've watched this film more times than i can remember, and you two still had so many great insights into this incredible movie that i've never noticed before. This is why i love this channel, glad you both enjoyed it!
@@drea4195It fits perfectly. A compulsive thought (if I don't do this, something bad will happen) becomes obsessive behaviour (you can't go to sleep until you've had two gulps of water). It's how OCD starts, and if not treated, can lead to life affecting obsessions that control your every moment.
One of the few movies I consider to be absolutely perfect. Great tone, amazing cinematography and editing. Every joke and plot point is set up and paid off and amazing chemistry with the cast. Takes a real attention to detail to pull this sort of movie off. Love Edgar Wright. I don't think the man has made a single bad movie. I'd recommend them all Also the sip vs gulp argument is NOT to be had before bed xD
Possibly the greatest comedy film ever. Watch it again, you notice more and more - endless foreshadowing, little jokes here and there, layers and layers. It's _SO_ clever.
Hot Fuzz has to be one of my favourite films ever, it is just brilliant, imo it’s the best film in The Cornetto Trilogy. Those Films are easily some of my favourite films of all time. I’d also say Edgar Wright is also one of my favourite directors, the way he makes his films by littering them transitions and foreshadowing is hilarious and brilliant.
This is easily one of my favourite comedies. It's just pure fun! Timothy Dalton has always been the best James Bond in my opinion, so to see him in this movie, a comedy was such a surprise! And he did the role so well.
Amazing and correct reaction to Bill Nighy coming on screen 😂 (also that story at the start, I say this light heartedly but also not in a way that is making fun…if that kind of thought process happens a lot Hannah it might be worth giving OCD a Google 😅❤)
Showed some of my American friends this film recently and they absolutely loved every moment of it. Loved the utter unabashed Britishness of it and loved the clever use of editing as well as all the action call-backs to some classic police action flicks. In my honest opinion, this is one of those very few near perfect films
Not only did all the random things mentioned throughout the movie have a purpose, but all those 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's movies references thrown in throughout, it was hard to keep up with. It was crafted by people who love movies, so why wouldn't we love it?
I just wanted to say great video guys! I have been watching you both for about a year now and am so happy to see how much you have grown! By far my favourite TH-camrs and you make my day every time you upload. A movie I believe that you both would absolutely love and be touched by is “Only The Brave”. Keep up the great work and keep finding those symbolisms!
I’ve honestly always imagined Hannah being from a town like this one (minus the cult). The way she always talks about “geezers down at the pub” and just the way she is. I’m so glad you guys enjoyed this movie!
I don't know if you noticed Paddy Considine (King Viserys from "House of the Dragon,") playing Andy Wainwright, one of the detectives. Also, Rory McCann (Sandor "the Hound" Clegane from "Game of Thrones,") as Michael. You guys need to watch, "The World's End," now to complete the "Cornetto Trilogy" (Shaun of the Dead > Hot Fuzz > The World's End.)
The level of detail they put into this one movie is astounding. The song playing on the radio as Mr Skinner drives past the scene after the house exploded and was on fire. The board with words describing the way the one sergeant behaves at the start of the film when introduced to Nicholas Angel. "Splat the Rat" just before the death of Tim Messenger from having his head crushed (going "splat" as one might say). The call backs in dialogue and background bits from start to finish are a masterclass in detailing out a story. It's part of why this movie holds up to multiple viewings and is still just as fun and funny on the 12th watch as it was on the first.
@mariadore7000 Except he was Daniel Craig's Bond 30 years earlier. WAY before his time and two of the best Bond performances (The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill).
This movie takes 4 locations at max and turns it into a full tilt story. Simon is a genius at knowing how to frame a very large story into a small setting, thus utilizing the most amount of background and secondary characters, every extra actor is used for a reason. This is true stage play and artisan ship that reverberates throughout his catalogue. He’s genuinely a great film maker.
16:16 I love how you correct Ash's English when needed, but in a simple and respectful way, and he takes it as such too! But then you both laugh when it is just terribly wrong at times. haha
I love that each (most🤔) characters name descibes them. Even Old Arthur Webley, the farmer. Webley is an old british gun manufacturer. He has a stockpile 😅
😂😂😂😂 im dying laughing! I love Simon Pegg and Sean Frost, they are genuinely hilarious and their stories are superb writing. I really wanted you to do Tucker and Dale vs Evil, but how can I complain! These are hilarious😂 only thing I can say is Tucker and Dale are 100% the US version of Pegg/Frost
I've been looking forward to seeing you guys with this movie,, and you did not disappoint. :) I beleive someone has actually said that this is the 'perfect' movie - every occurrence, every line of dialogue in it, even the character names, all feed directly into something else.
This was a fantastic reaction. I love this movie and you guys really highlighted how well the director really seeds the idea that something is seriously off from basically the beginning.
Edgar Wright is such a brilliant writter, the attention to detail in this film is absurd... I've seen it probably a dozen times and still find new jokes/minor plot points that connect to others! I can't wait for the dynamic duo to dissect this masterpiece.
I'm not sure how, but I didn't know Edgar Wright was involved in this. It's not at all surprising though. And I just now realized that they haven't reacted to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Both movies are fucking hilarious and the film-making, writing, and performances are stellar.
Note for your girl: that's an old sea mine! During WWII, the U-boat fleet, which dominated much of the battle of the Atlantic (which was almost a war itself, lasting almost the entire length). One historian wonderfully calls it 'thunder from below'. It was very important for both Germans and English, as Germans radically cut off food supply to the island, and the English finally crushed the U-boats. Anyway, much of the early action by German forces involved mining convoy routes and ports around Britain. Initially, contact mines (requiring a ship to physically strike a mine to detonate it) were employed. That's pretty much what this one is and why it has those pins sticking out (which you can also see in Finding Nemo, and other movies, if I can recall).
My name is Alan Canon, I am from Louisville, Kentucky, and I was trained in cave exploration by James Wells, himself the son of Oliver Craig Wells, grandson of H. G. Wells, and himself (Oliver Craig) a pioneering cave diver in Wookey Hole Cave in the Mendip Hills, just short, on the river Axe, of the town of Wells, Somerset, where this movie was shot. It is the only English town I have ever had time to explore at length. One pleasure I had when Hot Fuzz came out was that it reminded me of that town of Wells: imagine my astonishment to discover that this movie was shot in pretty much the only town in England that this Kentuckian ever had a few hours to explore on his own. I am safely back in Kentucky, but if I ever make it back to the UK again, I will go back to Wells. And so should you, and even if you don't, read up on the town of Wells, and the UK county of Somerset. It is a very beautiful place. One example: the fountain seen in Wells in a few shots in Hot Fuzz is an artesian well: it is fed, under pressure, by the surrounding caves. As a result, the high street in Wells is kept washed completely clean by sparkling cave water, flowing down the gutters. Water of a quality that you could bend and drink. Sorry to go off on it but, goddamn it, British people, your land is beloved by more than just you, and in my case, in great detail and from the experience of having trod on as much as I could. I hope you can understand the respect and love that some of us Americans feel for the sceptred isle that gave us Shakespeare and Newton and Lyell and Darwin and Faraday and Turing and Monty Python and so much more.
Ash had to tell the story for his own safety in the future If this goes on 'Girl interrupted' will be her favorite movie..😅 (great, weird movie! Watch it!)
You just knew that Angel had finally become one of them - when the rubbish bin bounced off his head - its just "a what mates do" kind of thing! lol . . . And never forget that the actual cast in this film had so many, both old & new, well-known leading actors and actresses in it . . . Whereas with their not to be missed movie, "Paul" - was also then filled with so many house-name leading American actors and actresses - along with the same kind of catchy joke line fest throughout to try and watch out for . . .
Yeh I caught that too but to be fair to Ash it's hard for a layman to tell the difference between cheap sub guns. We known a side loading magazine means it's a STEN not an MP3 or a grease gun but for someone who's only seen computer models the differences can be confusing.
No, its a Steyr-Solothurn S1-100, better known as MP34. A german gun, based on a design from ww1 and used in ww2 (but produced in Austria, which is why it has "Steyr" in the name).
"Oh my god, that's a mine!"

One of the best British films of all time! Favorite editing in any action movie ive seen
Favorite line in the movie, Olivia's "Nothin like a bit of girl on girl" you see Ash see it coming and it's perfect delivery from her😂
my favorite line, too! Her delivery is perfect. I HEARD that the actress (I dont know her) is a SERIOUS and ACCLAIMED actress and she takes this bit part with minimal dialogue and she was so talented that she stole every scene for me. I rewatched ALL her lines several times over when I watch the movie.
"I've been around the station a few times." the tone. the eye contact. flawless!
@@slchance8839That actress - Olivia Colman - 1 Oscar, 4 BAFTAs, 2 Emmys, 3 Golden Globes. In this movie - 10 suggestive lines. 😉
@@slchance8839she's one of my favourite actresses. Olivia Colman is her name, you should watch Tyrannosaur by paddy considine
Actually it is fused as a contact mine
That’s why it explodes when I it rolls over next to Edward Woodward and the fuse horn gets pressed in.
@@KevPage-Witkicker Yeah... That's the joke... 🤦♂️
This is straight up kind of the most perfect movie I've ever seen. The premise is ridiculous, the comedy is perfect, and the action is amazing.
One of the things I love about this film is that most viewers going in completely blind never catch the Kate Blanchett cameo at the beginning of the film.
I know I didn’t!
And Peter Jackson is the Santa that stabbed him.
"everybody and there mums is packing round ere" ....
I love that line 🤣
"Like who?"
"Farmers..."
"Who else?"
"Farmer's mums"
So hilarious to call back to that, the farmer and his mum be packin' LMAO!!!

Can we PLEASE get a second viewing of Shaun of the dead with Hannah???
seconded
Hell yeah! She'll love it!😂
At the very least Hannah should watch Shaun on her channel so they can finish the trilogy together. Hannah can’t miss Shaun of the Dead.
This movie has 100% Ash energy.
Ash said, "He knocked down his walls, Chris Jerico style." Walls of Jericho is an archeologist site. SYMBOLISM!!!
”Nothing like a bit of girl on girl” is my favourite line delivery in this movie, gets me every time 😂
Thank you for this, I was having the worst evening and now my fave people are watching my fave movie. Also Hannah is right. I grew up in a country village, moved away for ten years and when I went back I'd always get the hellos like I'd never left 😂
Watching an Edgar wright movie is a treat for movie fans. He's the English tarrentino. He loves movies and adds So many film references in his films.the cast are always legendary.
Fun Fact- Cate Blanchett played his wife in the hazmat suit in the beginning, bit of a hidden cameo.
Hannah & Ash getting a taste of that West Country Lifestyle 😉 I Agree with Hannah, this is a very British style comedy / sarcastic humour kind of film, but what was also surprising is how well this film did in America aswell.
This is basically "Symbolisms" the movie 😆
One of the best callbacks is when Danny says he feels like he's missing out on gun fights and car chases. And then later they have a gun fight during a car chase 🤣
You two never always seem to have a great vibe and have me in stitches with laughter and your reactions, keep up the good work both your smashing it.
"He had one thing you havent got. A great big bushy beard!". There are so many funny lines in this and everything is set up and pays off brilliantly. A great comedy.
“You have a mustache”
“… I know 👨🏻”
Hannah, no joke what you are describing in the beginning with the 'two big gulps' is the textbook definition of OCD.
We have even numbers and lots of light switches to flick 46 times
numbers should always be odd so theres a whole-number median, we would not be compatible as friends xD
Literally everything in this movie is a Chekov's Gun, even the "everyone and their mum's is packin' [firearms] round 'ere" "who?" "farmers" "who else?" "farmer's mums"... who does Angel deal with first after getting his shades but a farmer and his mum both armed lol
The "ginger nut" is also "Aaron A Aaronson" ("dyou want us to go through the 'ole phone book?")
Such a tight and witty script
I don't know how many times I've seen this film, but today was the day I realized Olivia Colman was in it!!
I've watched this film more times than i can remember, and you two still had so many great insights into this incredible movie that i've never noticed before. This is why i love this channel, glad you both enjoyed it!

29:56 I started to hysterically cry, laughing at Ash pulling out the moisturiser here 😂
So fucking unhinged I love it
This is legitimately one of the greatest movies ever.
I'd recommend them all
Also the sip vs gulp argument is NOT to be had before bed xD
Possibly the greatest comedy film ever.
Watch it again, you notice more and more - endless foreshadowing, little jokes here and there, layers and layers. It's _SO_ clever.
Ash saying “catch up” when he’s so far behind H is fucking hilarious to me
Hot Fuzz has to be one of my favourite films ever, it is just brilliant, imo it’s the best film in The Cornetto Trilogy. Those Films are easily some of my favourite films of all time. I’d also say Edgar Wright is also one of my favourite directors, the way he makes his films by littering them transitions and foreshadowing is hilarious and brilliant.
Hannah is definitely much better at understanding movies and jokes/symbolisms than Ash.
Simon Pegg also has a supporting role in the Amazon TV series THE BOYS. He gave the performance of his life in the recently concluded Season 4.
The comic version of hughie is based on pegg which is cool aswell
Yessss!
Reactions to the boys would be hilarious
He also did an epic job as SkekSil(the Chamberlain)in the unjustly cancelled "Dark Crystal:Age of Resistance".
Not only did all the random things mentioned throughout the movie have a purpose, but all those 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's movies references thrown in throughout, it was hard to keep up with. It was crafted by people who love movies, so why wouldn't we love it?
I am an American and this is my favorite movie ever.
Ash is starting to look like a middle eastern lord farquad 😂
I’ve honestly always imagined Hannah being from a town like this one (minus the cult). The way she always talks about “geezers down at the pub” and just the way she is. I’m so glad you guys enjoyed this movie!
Ash there is a saying, "stubborn wife saves husband's life"- if Hannah says drink, I'd drink!
The best review you can ever give a movie. "I could watch that again right now." Yup. That about says it all. Awesome flick
Paddy Cosindine:King Viserys
Jim Broadbent:Archmaester Ebrose
Rory Mccann:Sandor Clegane.
David Bradley:(the gun collector("Izuppose")Walder Frey.
And Ian Holm, everyone always, misses his literal blink n u miss him
The level of detail they put into this one movie is astounding.
That "geezer" is Timothy Dalton aka James Fucking Bond. Put some respect on his name.

Don’t you mean Edgar Wright? Edgar Wright is the one who directed this.

Simon pegg and nick frost create the best comedies of all time. Love your channel. All the best from Boston USA

You just knew that Angel had finally become one of them - when the rubbish bin bounced off his head - its just "a what mates do" kind of thing! lol . . . And never forget that the actual cast in this film had so many, both old & new, well-known leading actors and actresses in it . . . Whereas with their not to be missed movie, "Paul" - was also then filled with so many house-name leading American actors and actresses - along with the same kind of catchy joke line fest throughout to try and watch out for . . .
Nah - it's a Sten Gun - a British gun.
Yeh I caught that too but to be fair to Ash it's hard for a layman to tell the difference between cheap sub guns. We known a side loading magazine means it's a STEN not an MP3 or a grease gun but for someone who's only seen computer models the differences can be confusing.
Nope that's a 100% an MP34 Ash is correct.
You know Sten is just one of many submachine guns that had a side magazine.
