i love epic shit. and Dalinar summoning his shardblade and driving it into the ground in front of sadeas offering it for bridge 4 is one of the most epic things ever. in fact, whenever anyone drives their shardblade into the ground its epic af, but mainly this time.
He actually bought all the bridge crews. Not just bridge 4.
The fact that he put it on the justice gyph and then he’s like btw I’m getting together with your mom to king was icing on the cake.
I just lost my shit at that scene! It was so thrilling. I got goosebumps

I literally dropped my book when I read the part about Dalinar giving his Blade to Sadeas. Blew my mind, totally didn’t see that coming

Honnestly my favorite fantasy book ending alongside WoT TGS, Dalinar and Kaladin were so epic

I got cold chills and tears , it was so so intense! Especially after everything that just happened lol
A fun little addition to Dalinar proving his loyalty to the king by getting *this* close to killing him: the king calls for help, but none of his bodyguards respond because they're all more loyal to Dalinar
Yeah, dalinar put only his people out front.
Definitely, his whole point was, if i wanted you dead, you would have been gone already.
It's impossible to not cry during the climax on the Shaterred Plains! Kaladin and Bridge 4 sacrificing their chance of freedom to save people from a class who always oppressed them is soooo, soooo heroic! And, to finish the waterfall of tears, we have Dalinar being LITERALLY noble. OMG, this book is beautiful!
I had to put that book down and take a break halfway through it crying
I know it's a quick summary, but the king that hired the assassin, Teravangian, shows up earlier in the book and you get a sense that he's a kindly man, with a very humanitarian streak as he has hospitals that are open to all. The scene at the end, you get the real reason for the hospitals, and I remember my first time reading through how caught off guard I was by that.
nice summary, but I think it's the Heralds who are immortal, not the Radiants
Yes the 2 characters in the prologue were Heralds - there were 10 of them - the Knights Radiant came after
I think it is implied that the knights radiant have excess longevity due to the nahel bond
@@GeneralOtaku admittedly this is just me guessing, but you'd think with the ability to use stormlight would allow you to continue getting healthy from normal diseases.

My impression was that Jasnah's soulcaster was, in fact, fake which was why she never noticed that Shallan had replaced it. This also explains why Shallan was unable to get it to work, been a while though. Also I totally missed that she had summoned a shardblade, oh well. Great summary :-)
She actually doesn’t completely summon the Blade. She thinks that she could use it, thinking “Ten Heartbeats” but then she stops herself

Shallan is not shown to have a shardblade at any point in the first book. I'm pretty sure Daniel made a mistake with this. Also another mistake i noticed (not regarding Shallan but the summary overall) is that he says Sadeas wanted the King dead at the end of the book, but in fact, he did not want Elhokar dead but rather he wanted more influence with the King and he has tried to kill Dalinar because he was in his way with that, as in Dalinar had the most influence on Elhokar, so Dalinar needed to be removed from the picture. But otherwise a great summary.
Knjaz Zlogrd she 100% has a Shardblade, she starts the 10 heartbeat count at one point

Yeah, i know she has a Shardblade, however, it is never actually revealed in WoK, it was only hinted with 10 heartbeats. So when you finish reading the WoK, this can only be a probable theory rather than a proved fact. I wrote a comment about this because i saw people confused in the comments saying 'whoa i totally missed she had a Shardblade' etc, when it is Daniel who was mistaken about this.
He should've said it was hinted rather than that it was revealed. Anyway, this is a pretty minor flaw, and his summary was amazing so kudos to him. :)
About to read WoR. I thought Daniel inadvertently spoiled that Shallan has a shardblade. I hurried to re-read the chapter and holy how did that go over my head.

If shalland had 2 spren where is the second shardblade? Before she bonded with pattern she has this 10 heartbeat countdown. It never get transferred to other people so shallan has 2 blades right?
Syl brings him a poison flower that inspires him by it's irony, she never really tells him to suck it up.
yeah... almost like Daniel left out a bunch of little details... what about the end when he says Dalinar only saved bridge 4 when we know he saved all the slaves? you didnt point that out?

I just finished reading the way of kings. It had a slow start but a great pay off! It was refreshing to read this book. I've been looking for a good piece of steak and potatoes to feast on and this hit the spot for me.

Dude the first half of the book took me a couple months, then I finished the second half in like 2 weeks. Such a slow start but such as satisfying ending. Just started WOR today.
4500 years ago , it was the heralds who were immortals who got mad protecting us not the Knight radiants.
Wouldn't the radiants have as well? Because they all abandoned their oaths I though

The Last Desolation or Aharetiem is when the nine surviving Heralds broke their oaths and abandoned the Oathpact, leaving their Honorblades (one of which Szeth wielded). They've all been broken and are no longer willing to suffer to maintain the Pact. We're told that the one remaining Herald, Talenel, who fell during the battle, is now the sole Herald sent back to suffer in their stead to hold back the next Desolation. That's what we see at the beginning of the book. Many years later, after the False Desolation, nine of the orders of Knights Radiant also abandon their oaths, essentially killing their spren and leaving their Shardblades and Plate to be claimed, which is called the Day of Recreance.
We know more about these events now, but without getting too spoilery, that's more or less what we know in Way of Kings.
I loved the scene with Syl guarding Cal. But my favorite was her revelation of what she truly was. I loved the joint discovery between Cal, the reader, and Syl, all learning in the same moment that she is an honorspren. Especially with the question "do spren attract the things they are named for, or are they attracted to those things?"

Wait, did you listen to this on an audiobook? I'm just interested because I have Windrunner and Oathbringer (busy completing Windrunner) and I'd imagine most people spelling Kaladin's name right all the time. After all, he is a central character in the Stormlight Archive.

I actually had a great time going back and relearning these character names by their spelling and realizing how they fit into the glyph-style structure of the culture. I welcome the criticism because I really did miss out on some deeper meaning there, and I'm glad I dove back in.

Brandon is such a good author. I get chills just listening to this high level summary.
Man, I read this book over the past year whole reading others and this helped me so much as I am about 30% through book 2 and really needed a refresher. The only thing I would say you are missing is the convo that Kal has with the stormfather when he is strung up in the high storm and a little more emphasis on Dalinars visions.
I love this series sooo much. I can't wait for Oathbringer. Only 12 more days!! Also, one of my favorite parts in this book is the very first time Kaladin goes into battle carrying the bridge. Sanderson wrote it so well and I actually got chills reading it; it was so epic.
Crimsonic My favorite moment from TWOK is when Kaladin was struggling to survive in the highstorm, and bridge 4s reaction to his survival. Lots of epic scenes in these books :D

I just finished the book an hour ago and watched your videos to remind me of the details of the story all over. You did well but forgot to mention the last chapter about the Wit at the city gate when they got cut open by a shard lade

Absolutely loved it! The only thing I was left wishing was describing the scene where Syl made Kaladin fight for Dalinar when everyone else was abandoning him.
Thanks so much-having an explanation on video helps me so much being an audiobook only owner. I find without the physical book to look at the words, the punctuation, etc. and completely digest what I'm reading, I don't retain nearly as much. Great summary! I think it's a testament to how much important detail there is in this work that you missed a few things in a 40 minute summary. Such a great book. I can't wait to start the next one in the series and will watch this summary again before that time comes!

Excellent summary. Was just about to start up Oathbringer and realized I couldn’t really remember what happened in the first two books. Great job. Subscribed. I really appreciate the work.
Nobody asked but here are all my favorite scenes:(not necessarily in order)
1. Kaladin and his group go back for Dalinar and Kaladin’s literal awesomeness
2. Dalinar giving his sword for all the Bridge crews.
3. The Dalinar and Kaladin talk about a life is priceless and even a shard is priceless so he just had to pay with one priceless thing to get 2600 priceless people back!
4. The part where Dalinar kicks Elkohar the dumb king and tells him that he is not his enemy!
5. When DAlinar in the end while going out the door tells Elkohar that he is courting his mom so get used to it! That was one of the best moments tbh
6. EVERYTHING Jasnah Kholins was soo cool. I relate to her most so that’s why!
Jasnah is a monster even if what she did was against people who deserved it... also how can you not love Kaldins fight against Helaran

WOW. Thanks so much for putting this together. I read this about four years ago and then bought Words of Radiance and planned to start that. Didn't happen. So now all these years later, I'm wanting to jump back into the story without having to re-read the 1,000-page giant. This synopsis was fantastic and really helped surface the details and emotions I remember from reading it myself. I'm all ready to continue on at this point. Bravo.

Thank yoU! Your 40 minutes just saved me 40 hours! (well maybe more like 20-25 hours of reading, but still.)
Just a few noteworthy things not included in this recap:
- Wit is the King's jester, who's name is also Hoid. Hoid appears in every book of Sanderson's Cosmere Universe and knows a lot of things everyone else does not. We've yet to learn why.
- After Dalanar's wife supposedly passes away, he seeks out the Old Magic from an Oracle (I think). Though we don't know exactly what this means, his price for seeking this was losing all memories of his wife.
- Josana and Shallan theorize that the Parshmen are actually dormant Voidbringers.
- In the epilogue of the book, Wit is sitting on the wall of the city Kholinar, awaiting a "storm". Talenel’Elin, Stonesinew, one of the 10 Heralds, busts through the gate, proclaims that the Desolation has come and that he's failed, and he collapses.
Josh A you really think it'll take 25 hours to read the 15 hundred page way of kings. Lol maybe. I have no idea how ling it took me. Great read though. I'm using this review because the the third the third book came out and it's been two years since I've read both both way both way of both way of kings and words of radiance
eric gen rogues. Just a rough estimate but probably not far off. 50 pages an hour usually, 1000 pages. 20 hours. About that.
And I watched this review so I wouldn't have to read it again and it made me want to read it again, lol

I spend like months on a book this size, damn i read slow.
I binged through the first three books of Stormlight in just under three weeks. And that was while working full time, so not a lot of sleep for me. But NO REGRETS!
I desperately needed this! Perfectly concise without missing any of the major details. Starting Oathbringer today!

Another small correction: shardblades don't actually cut through flesh. They cut through immaterial objects like butter, but when it connects with a living organism, it only cuts through its 'soul'. So you couldn't use a shardblade to sever an arm, for instance, but the arm would die off because the life source of the arm has been severed.
I really enjoyed this video. Very easy to listen to and informative. I hope you do more of the series.

Fantastic summary! Super helpful before going into Rhythm of War.
I started reading this book not really liking a lot of the concepts the world was based on. That combined with the relatively slow start, nearly made me put it away. It however grew on me, and the characters, story and world building became really amazing and a lto of fun. Moreover, it has a more mature vibe, which I can really appreciate.
Overall one of my favorite ongoing series at the moment.

This book was crazy good! Slow start / many unanswered questions. Some questions I didn't even know I had until the later third of the book became chapters exclusively of answers. Really great book.
