Great that you chose such a 'signature' song of theirs. Not many would react to this opus and yet as you found, there is so much in it. If you can imagine a 13 year old getting his hands on this (back when it was released) and sticking it on his crap, not quite stereo. Then, as 'TIme Was' ends so 'Sometime World' begins, a song which seemed to encapsulate my life then.........a sometime world passing me by again........featuring probably one of the best extended guitar solo's ever recorded...IMHO. Great reaction....OH and I still see Andy Powell's Wishbone Ash every year when they come to Hamburg......just to remind me.......
well said. If you get a chance to see martin Turner ex wishbone ash I can't recommened then too highly. They play the tracks as close to the originals as possible
Yet another great reaction Alan to another brilliant track . Listening to Wishbone Ash is for me at times like listening to a classical symphony. I just love the subtle changes in direction & dynamics . The textures of light & shade..This whole album is a timeless masterpiece .
I’m going to enjoy the journey , and I fully concur with you analogy and merit based assertion of Symphony, in more simpler words “ I can’t wait get going 😊👍. Thank you so much for the kind words 😎
This whole album brings back so many memories for me, so to watch someone experience this opening track for the first time and see your reaction was priceless. This ranks as one of the top ten albums that I carry through life with me. Thank you for the opportunity to experience it again through the the ears of someone hearing it for the first time.
Bought this album when it first came out and still have it in my collection. Later on when I was old enough to drive, I bought it on cassette and played it continuously whilst driving , happy days .
6 years old at the album release. Being spoonfed by my dad with music from Ash, Sabbath, Heep, Gallagher, 10 years after etc etc. It definitely formed my musical knowledge and prefs. lateron I was able to return the favor of introducing him to to other classics & newer bands. Anyways listening to Argus is like coming home on a sunday morning❤ Thx for the upload and love your style of presenting songs. Do keep on.
I have been listening to wishbone since 1971! I am really enjoying watching your journey into the power, emotion, and outright brilliance of my all time favorite band!
@@alan-reacts65 It is so hard but I would go with either "Sometime World" ( it is beautiful) or "The King Will Come" (I think this piece demonstrates all of their talents vocally, instrumentally, and compositionally-if that is a word! LOL)
Are you thinking of acoustic part The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes?" This album brings up memories of times forgotten, and I'm amazed I'd forgotten all about this band. Must be getting old. Wishbone Ash was also one of the progenitors of math rock with the complexity of their music, and yes, you'll love the rest of the album.
Julie 😊 first up! You at least knew them 😊 I only knew the name from my friends denim jackets, back in the 70’s 😂 and yes it’s “ Behind Blue eyes” a song I particularly like 👍 and if I’ve reminded you and anyone of a band they’d stored away then Job done 😊👍 oh check your email later 😎
'Argus', first album I ever bought, and STILL in my top 10 albums of all time. Alan, you must listen to the whole album. It's all as good as this great song. But my absolute favourites from this album are 'Sometime World' - which I think is better than 'Freebird' - and the magnificent album closer 'Throw Down The Sword', the finest way to close out an album I think I've ever heard.
The bass is incredible. Martin Turner is the bassist and vocalist. He was responsible for much of the lyrical and musical content of Argus. He described its completion as ‘like giving birth’ as it was so emotionally draining.
first saw them at the city hall Newcastle in 73. Still go to see Martin Turners iteration of the band - you can catch them at the Cluny, Newcastle later in the year. Highly recommend a visit.
I was at the city hall on Thursday for Gary Numan , will definitely try to get to the Cluny gig , will google it after I finish this 👍😊 thank you kindly 👍
@@alan-reacts65 Some versions of them still tour but it is not quite the same. In fact, I just saw a version will be in Cincinatti (and hour from me) in November.
It’s both gratifying and emotional to hear these first reactions (if that is actually the case, anyway no matter) of these great tracks that form the background to my life. I bought Argus at the age of 16 when it was first released and the tracks are just as fresh and enjoyable today as they were back then. I saw an early live performance if Time Was - the band played the acoustic intro quietly, lulling they audience Into a calm reverie and then BAM - they turned the Amps up loud and launched into the electric passage which made me and many other people jump out of our seats! Argus remains in my top 3 albums of all time. If you want to review another fantastic musical piece, give a listen to Trilogy by ELP.
@@alan-reacts65 Enjoy the rest of the Album - its a classic with Sometime World as my favourite track. There were so many great bands during that time I now realise how lucky I was to grow up in that era. In quick succession I saw Rory Gallager, Curved Air (check them out if you haven't yet), Mott The Hoople, Deep Purple, Led Zep, Black Sabbath and ELP.
Welcome to my all time favourite album. I bought a copy on release date at Lunchtime and played it constantly till midnight. Going to see them in London in late October.

It absolutely is ... and it was the first album I ever bought ! What a way to start a record collection.

I’ve got Alice Cooper and Samantha Fish in October , now I’m thinking 🤔 😊😎👍
It’s been one of my favorite albums since I heard it in the 70’s. Perfect for a road trip!
Now we are in another category! Road trip songs .. now you’ve given me food for thought that I haven’t explored on the channel .. thank you 🙏🏻

Saw them with Gentle Giant and Vinegar Joe in 1973 in our little town of Waterloo (Canada).
Scot as good as I imagine ?
I often am reminded of Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac when I listen to Wishbone Ash’s twin guitars.
I’m sat listening ( memory ) I hear you 😊👍😎
Very interesting perception. I never thought about it but Totally valid! (I am a huge fan of early Fleetwood Mac in the Peter Green era.
