I didn't realize that you had reacted to Wishbone Ash. If I had known, & known you were a bassist, I would have recommended that you listen to *Handy* from their first album, Wishbone Ash, in which Martin Turner, the lead vocalist & bassist, takes the spotlight to offer several melodic stretches that I think are just excellent, opening it with an extended solo that's seriously impressive. Martin always impressed me with his regular moments of playing "lead bass" at the same time that their two lead guitarists are alternating solos. Hell, if you're going to listen to Handy, you might as well listen to the other long song on the second side of that album, *Phoenix,* which is probably their best presentation of their combined skills building to a climax of all their songs
I'll also add now that Martin Turner's vocals while playing a frenetic bass riff are just amazing on *Sometime World,* which is on their third album, *Argus.* You will NOT be disappointed...

I think I read that Martin's bass was a Rickenbacker...and I think they were 3-part harmonies, with all the guitarists pitching in. Quite successfully... I wouldn't rate The King Will Come in my top ten of Wishbone Ash's best song. You'll definitely be impressed by *Handy,* *Phoenix,* & *Sometime World* . . .

Martin Turner's bass of choice was a Gibson Thunderbird.

Thanks for your first reaction to Wishbone Ash. There are other songs with a lot more dual guitar work. I may comment later with some suggestions. This song is a "fan favorite" in concert.

For some lyrical dual-guitar work, try "Throw Down the Sword" on the same album.

Listen to Sometime World side one to hear the unique tone and riff of that Thunderbird that drives that song.

Awesome, seen these guys many times mostly Andy Powells reincarnation of the ash. Ted Turner lived down the road from me in Worcestershire UK, some years ago he had his guitar collection stolen from his house. The live albums were all called Live Dates, they also did an instrumental album. Andy and Ted were known as one of the best guitar duos in rock history.

Great band. Great album. I saw them in the late 70s. At a small club maybe 200 people. The show was fantastic. 🤘🃏🇺🇸🎸

Hello Justin, thank you for the reaction to this Wishbone Ash song. I didn't realize you had gotten around to reacting to this! Somehow I missed it and I don't know how, because I check your stuff out on a nearly daily basis.
But I decided I felt like listening to this song again tonight. So I did a search and lo and behold your video reaction for me showed up. So I'm 4 months late to the reaction done for me, but hey, at least I get to read a lot of comments here that others left over the past four months.
There was something about this song that just really caught my attention and moved me the first time I heard it. Which is why I suggested it to you to react to. Do they have anything on my favorite band Rush? Heck no! But then when I first learned of Wishbone Ash and heard this song, you were just starting your Rush journey of reactions and I had just started my own Rush rabbit-hole trip not long before that. And because their progress Rock I stumbled upon w
Wishbone Ash and I just wanted to get your honest reaction to the song The King Will Come. But upon this second listen to this song, I agree with you. It's fine it's cool but nothing ground shattering.
But I also have yet to dive into more Wishbone Ash and see what they have to offer and luckily, because of your reaction video, here we have some fellow subscribers who have given you and I some suggestions.
I'll check some more out and if I come across any Wishbone Ash songs that I do think are incredible, then I will send you some money for another reaction of Wishbone Ash.
    Thanks Again!

Martin Turners vocals were not typical of a rock singer. Very laid back. Made him unique.

Turner was known for playing a Jetglo Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar during Wishbone Ash's most successful spell in the 1970s. The tone obtained from his set-up was an integral part of the band's early sound. Martin now regularly performs playing a white Gibson Thunderbird bass guitar, which he bought from Peter Overend Watts of Mott the Hoople.

I saw them first in 1972 and again I think in 1976. He played a Gibson Thunderbird. A few months after I saw them the first time I caught a performance on TV. The show was Don Kirshner's Rock Concert.
He was playing a sunburst Thunderbird.
Martin Turner was a major inspiration for me as a then, novice bass player.

Argus is a fantastic album- but my favorite Wishbone Ash period was later & featured Lauris Wisefieldon guitar. Notably There's The Rub & New England albums.

This was one of the bands that moved me on from Purple and Sabbath towards the twin lead sound of laterThin Lizzy, and on to Iron Maiden and others. Although this is one of their well known tracks it does not really display the twin lead sound but the vocals are spot on. Now it's Lovebites, Nemophila, Doll$Boxx to name a few. And Nightwish for the best vocalist, Floor Jansen.

Martin played a Gibson Thunderbird on this song, Andy played a Gibson V, Ted played a Fender Strat and of course Steve on drums. If you want some real cool stuff by them, listen to Vas Dis from the album Pilgrimage.

My dad is a mega fan to the point him and Andy hang out whenever he comes to the area. If he has time, cuz, you know they're on tour and all. My sister also says she and the bass player had a "fling." Which, I don't really want to dwell what the definition of fling is in that context. They usually just tell him what hotel they're staying at, and my parents will book their room at the same one. Then, they'll hang out after the show, or before they leave the next day.
Anyways, having heard literally all of Wishbone Ash's catalog, my favorite song is Persephone.
They mostly play blues type stuff these days. If they're still even touring as a lot of this stuff was from 5+ years ago.

Saw them when they opened for The Who in 1971. What a fabulous shoe for the price of a $2.00 lawn seat ticket. They expected 5,000, 38,000 of us showed up. What traffic mess, we got there at 2:30 PM and got home at 5:30 AM. Listen to Vas Dis, they opened with it. Jim

As a bass player and to better hear the twin guitars, listen to Handy, from the first album of Wishbone Ash (1970). The intro is a long bass solo, maybe one of the first in rock history. An incredible and still excellent piece of music. And for good twin guitars, the song Throw Down the Sword (their best known) is perfect.

I was pointed to this album in this band by a lot of people citing their influence. It’s an interesting listen and has some good stuff, but didn’t move me to explore any more of their catalog. It’s good to play in a 60’s opium den.😝
