At 0:32 when the 2 instruments echo each other i like to imagine that the piano is someone calling out to space and the other instrument is space responding.
Damn! I felt the exact same way but never formed it as a proper thought in my head. I always thought it as sending pinging signals and receiving a response.
this is a musical technique called Call And Response, where it sounds like the instruments or voices are speaking to one another. it was used a lot in classical music :)
This one made me think of Dire Dire Docks. That sadness and lonelyness effect, surrounded by infinite space (or water) that make you feel small. True masterpieces both.
@@chickenlittle0374 I feel that, my original copy died at some point, but my siblings bought me a new one (if you're American you can sometimes find copies at gamestops for around 8 dollars)
When I tried finding this song, I remembered having distinct memories of there being pull stars and realized that Space Junk is one of the few galaxies to feature pull stars.
I hate to think somewhere in the future we cannot hear these masterpieces in space because in space sound doesn't travel like in Earth, truly sad about this.
"OK so, we're going to make a level in a trash dump. Any ideas for the music?" Some genius: "what if we just make it the most tranquil and beautiful soundtrack in the entire goddamn game?"
@@DoisZvcar Players were happy to return to a free-roaming structure in Odyssey and while it certainly has its merits, I've always enjoyed pure focused platforming more. Galaxy, and 2 to a greater extent IMO, might feel larger because nearly every moment is a challenge designed to be overcome instead of the meandering that comes with freedom.
Do... Do yall think Mario ever doubts himself? Like he's going on a grand adventure to save Peach and all, he's smiling and having fun, but what if he ever thinks that he's in over his head? What if he runs out of lives and never makes it to the princess? He's got to see so much, collecting coin and stomping through his enemies. But what if he never makes it to the end?
That... Actually would go nice for lyrics. Mario just sitting there singing, wondering if he'll make it to Peach, wondering if he can do it. Maybe Luma can join in the song and encourage him to keep going, that he'll make it and not to doubt himself. Ahhh, I can already imagine it Anyone wanna try? 😊😊😊
this song perfectly fits space junk like the words too just forgotten junk flying through a lonely endless vacuum of universe beautifuli nostalgic lonelyness simpler and better times music that feels like god himself perfected it wonder where the junk came from
I remember playing this game when I was 10 years old, now I am in college, and this brought tears to my eyes that I have come so far and still enjoy this part of my life
Pandemic? Global warming? Dude what are you talking about? It's 2007, Super Mario Galaxy just released! Come on, let's go play, maybe that'll snap you out of it.
Super Mario galaxy has to be not just the best Mario game I’ve played but the best game I have ever played, no other Mario game has ever came close to this kind of perfection
The bliss of the endless void, most may look upon it as a scale for insignificance inside infinity but to others they have managed to find their place in a universe of beauty and see what comes of it.
"hey kondo-san we need you to play something for a galaxy full of idle debris and general junk parts and scrap from rocket ships and rovers and satellites and ufos and the like." "have soothing, gloomy music instead :)"
I'm not joking when I say no other Mario game comes close to Galaxy. The game is just too beautiful. With galaxies like Space Junk, which has a heart-touching theme, soul leaving your body to reach the space depths is assured.
How come literally no other space game ever has managed to capture the lonely beauty of the universe as perfectly as Mario Galaxy DAMN IT
bro i dont know
SMG is amazing in this aspect, but The Outer Wilds is THE game when it comes to loneliness in space
its like something that came from a different planet bro, there never will be a game better or similar
For me lost impact from shadow the hedgehog (2005) manages to do a pretty good job as well
No Man's Sky comes just as close, but in a different way.
Someone played this at my school on the piano one day after school and I almost cried with nostalgia and happiness
That’s beautiful that someone’s actions touched you in a very impactful way. Did you know this person, or talk to them?
probably was not me but i did do this in art class two years ago

This song is so beautiful and haunting almost. Captures the wonder of space perfectly. This soundtrack will always hold a special place in my heart.
Same, I literally cry when I hear this.
@@donovanphillips6278 Was just listening to it a week ago on Nintendo Music during work! Such an emotional song
this has the exact feeling of just floating in space alone in the darkness
Both this soundtrack and the level itseft has to be enbodiment of beauty.
And yet it has Junk written in it's name.
It's beautiful because it's so spacey And the electronic parts are the junk
This music and everything else about this game is just bring me into tears of how beautiful this game is and I really hope they make a galaxy 3
Mario galaxy has the best ost of all time and nobody can change my mind.
This is a level above god tier
Nirvana tier
Maturing is realising how amazing this song is. I never cared for this song as a kid but now its definitely one of my favourites.
Nintendo managed to make the epitome of beauty into music
17 years ago…
holy god damn it's been that long?
in my opinion, 0:55 is the best part. it fits so well. Nintendo has outdone themselves.

(Breathing in) (Breathing out) absolutely soothing and beautiful.😪😪😌😌

I really like song before I go to bed, puts me to sleep
Space Junk > Gusty Garden
''A bright blue moon illuminates the night along with countless shooting stars''
This is one of my favorite galaxies
Same cuz the music is very relaxing
I love the little echo at 0:17
Me too! It reminds me of a little alien
this is what space sounds like you can't tell me otherwise
I love how this area has a homage to pikmin with the ship from pikmin 2.
"OK so, we're going to make a level in a trash dump. Any ideas for the music?"

In french this galaxy is called "Poussière d'étoile" --> "Star dust" in english
In spanish it's called "Galaxia nebulosa", love it!
In italian, this galaxy is called "galassia polvere di stelle" (Stardust galaxy).
Still the best Mario game, kinda sad that Odyssey despite having everything in its side couldn't top this
For some reason, despite being bigger than Galaxy, Odyssey feels smaller in comparison

One of my favorite songs.
The arrival to this galaxy, with this track playing, was when the game truly began for me.

Gorgeous… so serene and peaceful…

This galaxy is a masterpiece, so as its music
Super mario galaxy has one major flaw: They did not use this song enough
amazing listening to this in 2024 what an absolute perfect piece of music..
Every SMG's ost are amazing, how is that possible?
