n 86 purchased the Kenwood KRC-999 paired with the KRC-959CD player that plugged into the 999 unit in my 78 Chevy Vandura, this stereo came with a cassette to instruct you how to use the all features, man it had features, possibly too many when driving.
so cool! interesting fact..back then they used to say computer controlled but in reality it meant that it has a chip :) but the green and red and blue and yellow colors back in the 70s and 80s were extremely nice to look at it..these days that cool blue color is not cool at all :)
If i remember the shelf buttons tripled features so 1 button had 3 separate features, and when mine was paired with the 959CD unit the volumes doubled so you could turn the 999 up to say 3/4 and then use the volume on the CD unit as well and made it even louder, the going price was around 999.99 for just the 999 head Unit if my memory is correct i picked mine up new at a liquidation place(Krazy Kellys in Canada) for 600 was one of the best head units back in the day, i sold mine and installed it to a guys Mustang in 92, mine had some issue the motor was slow on the tray and i think a few buttons inside the shelf were messed up but everything still worked when i sold it.
@@datatech2000 Yes, that was expensive upgrade, in the back wall of the 78 Chevy vandura i had the Pioneer top of the line 3 way 6 by 9 in boxes and a pair of Fender 12 subs from my buddy's band and we built a box for under the bed, had some Orion 80Watt with the Bridging module so you could run both the subs and the 6by 9 and i think we used a coil to cross-over the subs in that deal. Hard to find but there are 2 old school pioneer eq's on Ebay right now NOT BP 880's but of the same era, just don t have the little flashing led/spectrum display. Type old school pioneer
I have two kdc 90 CD players, would you be interested? They do need repair but it’s the common issue with them. Otherwise mint, and I’m the original owner
Made my day to see this video. I bought one of these brand new back in the day. It was a great head unit.

the holy grail as I recalled this was tuner only, meaning it did not have built in amp.
Dead Head no amp built in
