      @jamie tanner There are definitely other ways to hang the bottle, I have used a toggle and string many times, however, the fish mouth spreader aka bottle hanger just makes life so much easier.

    I used a bahco saw to cut about halfway through a 2 inch diameter chunk of wood that I sharpened on one end to drive into the ground near the fire. Before I did that I pounded the Pathfinder grill into the notch I made with the saw until it was seated firmly. This provided all the support I needed to cook sausages. I tested the strength with about 30 liters of water and the grill held on that single peg no problem. Best part...you can turn that peg and swing the grill into and out of the coals as needed. I did a video on it if you want to see it in action. Just search Pathfinder Titanium Grill - First Impressions. Love all your videos, Thanks for sharing!

    The problem with titanium is also its advantage, not the light weight, but it's awesome heat dissipation qualities. In cold weather, especially with alcohol, it can take considerably longer to heat anything.
    Not a deal breaker.

    Nice video, thanks for sharing. Still, I personally dislike titanium pots and prefer the stainless steel. The weight difference is not a big deal.

    All you need to add to this is another skillet with holes in the bottom and a lid and you’ve got yourself a steamer. An advantage of a steamer is that they are a little more forgiving when you run out of wood and you have time to add some as the mass of water under it has a lot of residual heat in it and a steamer is also is a good way to avoid burning food if the fire gets too hot.

    I wish the price of Pathfinder titanium was better so I could support Dave's product but I had to go with boundless voyage at half the price for the exact same canteen mess kit, times are tough and have to stretch the dollars as far as possible

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that Lauren. You have to conserve funds when you can, especially in tough times such as these. All TT is expensive in my budget lol. From what I understand, it is really in part to how many pieces you are able to order at a time. If you order a large amount, you can get it cheaper per piece. If a company can fund a large order then they can sell them cheaper. I am guessing that could be the case but not 100% certain. Either way, I hope the gear serves you well for years to come! Take care.

    I'm interested in seeing you demonstrate that skillet. There must be a reason why it doesn't have a smooth sidewall to bottom contour. Let us all see you cook scrambled eggs in that.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I actually scrambled eggs in it this morning. Check my Instagram page for a photo. The key is to butter the pan well and cook on low heat. I find with TI gear lower heat is a good thing to prevent burning. The reason the walls are straight is so it nests perfectly with the 1100 ml titanium bush pot. They can both be placed it the same bag nested to save space that way.

    • @19ghost73
      @19ghost73 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blackhatbushcraft I bet David Tiner in his comment above meant why are the skillet's walls not straight until the bottom, i.e. why there's a recess. I suppose that is so that the skillet can be used on top of another container with the skillet's opening oriented sky-ward, so it can serve as a secure lid AND still contain food, so it keeps warm. I have & use this feature (recessed skillet = lid for cook pot) on my German & Swedish & Russian mess kits. Regards, Gereon

    I like the titanium cook wear and stoves. Besides the light weigh , sturdiness , it's the ability they have of cooling so fast. Stainless is good to cook with but stays hot for so long. I got this years ago back before Self Reliance Outfitters had anything in titanium. One more benefit it seams that Titanium lasts forever. My titanium Appalachia set is from Evernew. I even got one of their non stick titanium frying pans. With the Appalachian set it makes a complete cook set. Back then Self Reliance Outfitters didn't have anything in titanium.

    Was going to say this seems like a bit of a misstep for the Pathfinder School. But then took a closer look. The Ti cook kit market is a very crowded one. Outside of the more well-known brands, there are budget Made in China brands. At least a handful where prices seem surprisingly reasonable.
    Along with pieces that seem exactly the same, just with different branding. I recognized the mug, the skillet, the pot, etc. So if things don't work out, I doubt it'll be a huge issue for the Pathfinder School and these already existing Ti pieces with their logo placed on them.
    Don't get me wrong, I know they're real Ti and work well. The only issues will be the ones that already exist with Ti cookware. The horrendous galling of threads along with the sound associated with that, the incredibly fast pace at which boiled water cools down, and coffee too that's in a Ti mug. And the fact that if you actually try to cook anything (other than food boiling in lots of water) you have to keep a constant eye on the cooking or the food will burn onto the cookware and ruin it. But that's universal with Ti.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree this isn't for everyone. I have never owned too many other pieces of Titanium gear so this is a opportunity for me to use this stuff and get a better feel for it's application, strengths and weaknesses. It seems to me that every choice be it cast iron, stainless steel, TI, etc comes with it's own set of pros and cons. Since everyone has their own preferences of what fits them best, variety is a good thing to offer. In the meantime, I will continue to share my honest thoughts here as I continue to use different gear.

      That's great to hear. Unfortunately the main reason why I started my channel is due to a lack of honesty that I've noticed on certain channels that also cover the same topics I'm interested in. If even a few of those other channels provided honest thoughts, like yours; I wouldn't have bothered creating my channel on TH-cam. Sadly, I saw a very blatant and clear need for it. So it's very good to find someone who feels the same way about honesty. Thank you for that.

      Thank you my friend for the kind words. If it isn't showing it is because it is now out of stock. There will be more coming. Keep checking back or you can always get on the email notification list.

    Loving that Indiana Jones Hat Matt. Does the bush pot lid also fit the skillet? Looks like it might. Just curious.

      Need? Probably not. I know I have enough lol. However, there are many who are excited about this set and are looking forward to it. Especially those who aren't completely outfitted yet.

    Great video brother! I’m very impressed with the Titanium Cookware thus far! Lightweight yet strong as steel!

    I don't know. I question the quality of these china-made pans. I bought the stainless steel frying pan a few months ago and the first time I touched the d-ring on the lid it popped off. I've had a the tip of a PKS Knife roll over that I had to sharpen off. I'm just wondering if anybody who isn't paid by SRO/TPS reviews this stuff

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they do. Look up a product here on YT and you will find many unprompted and unaffiliated reviews. Many people use the gear without issue. We have a facebook group where 13,000 plus people are sharing their experiences daily in the field and there are countless reviews and posts regarding the gear. The second thing I would say is that if you have any problem with a product from SRO and you contact them they will absolutely make it right. If something is defective, they will replace it at their cost. Their customer service is second to none. I used the stuff myself for years before becoming an instructor and was an instructor for years before being an affiliate. If you are unsatisfied, please contact the store.

    Yes, might be good stuff, but way out of my price range. I will stick with my GSI Stainless Steel cookware.

      Same for me. Nice gear but I just can't justify ponying up the dough when I can have good gear for a fraction of the cost. I get and run through a lot of camp gear by looking at second hand. I find it kind of boosts up my skill levels by using whatever works at the time. Happy trails.

      I have some titanium stuff I bought because everybody was all worked up about it. It’s ok but not a good value.

    Why can't you use USA measurements ?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure as to why the decision was made to size it as is. I know the the stainless gear is standard in ounces but the TT was done metric. Not sure.
