Truly historic and revolutionary movie. Not only did it inspire Tommy Wiseau character in the Room, but it also inspired Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson (the 3rd movie).
This is what movies should be like - no restraint, which is perfect for young teenagers. But damn, those ladies that voluntarily exposed themselves for art are under-appreciated

The difference between this movie and blackbird is that I don't think the makers intended samurai cop to be taken too seriously. All the quirky characters, the dialogue, the editing. It's pure fun cringe. Blackbird on the other hand.. is pure cringe. Which makes it unintentionally funny

I read in an article that the actor portraying Steve trained using, "the method" for his performance for 7 years in preparation for the film. He LIVED as Steve for 7 years, masterfully practicing eyebrow techniques. When he stopped raising the eyebrows after the shoot, everyone in his real life thought he was depressed.

It was his 35th and last movie that he was involved in since he started acting in 1952. He made this and most of his US movies expecting them to sell like they would have back in a pre-revolution Iran (anything with gratuitous sex and violence) where he launched his career. He did not consider any kind of American culture or American audiences when making this film. It is a prime example of "outsider cinema" a phenomenon that demonstrates an intended market trying to be supplanted elsewhere and expecting the there a similar reception. Since this is what his idea of what movies were supposed to be, I'm not going to discredit him. I'm going to cut him some slack and act as if I was watching a foreign film that embodies a culture I have very little understanding of. The scene with the nurse was the way he viewed Americans flirting. You could absolutely call that a satire of American culture.
