Jon. Very helpful videos! Well done. Question: Once you remove the dashboard cluster (speedometer and odometer unit), is one able to pop off the clear plastic to get directly to the dials? The needle on my speedometer has some how gotten on the wrong side of the 'resting' pin on the face of the speedometer.
Martin Doyle thanks! you're correct. in this video I have linked, it shows how to pop it open! you should be able to move the needle back around. th-cam.com/video/uZRvIN5MErk/w-d-xo.html
Hey man just bought my first car a crx 1988 ef7 two days ago and found your channel, your gonna be a massive help working on so keep up the great work! Also if you had and tips i would greatly appreciate it, Its got a doch D16zc with 142000 miles.
Mainly just trying to bring it to original working condition, The engine is perfect and runs great. Only issue is Fuel gauge only works half the time and the trail arm bushes and shocks need replacing, the only other work needed is some panel damage but already have parts to replace them with. But yeah general maintenance tips would be great. Eventually when this car is nice and clean im going to probably get a dc2 integra and turn the crx into a track/show car.
Honestly these car seem to run with even the crappiest maintenance. I would of course do the usual plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Transmission drain and refill with new fluid and all new radiator hoses and smaller coolant hoses plus a thermostat. The fuel sending unit may be broke, or even the cluster. Both are easy to change as you can access the sending unit by lifting out the rear cargo box. You'll see the lid for access to the sending unit. Those suspension parts you mentioned are easy to change out also, just takes a little time and effort. Keep me updated, or make some videos, would love to see the updates! Need any pointers when you get to work, let me know!
Thanks! I would love to make videos but dont have anything good to record with but ive been taking photos every step of the way, Might make a build thread on the Honda forums. My next step i think is pulling off the muffler and replacing it, replace the fuel sender unit and change the fluids. Sadly i didnt realize how hard it would be to find parts locally and how over priced people are selling them for before i got the car, so for now i can only work with a few things until i get my next paycheck and ill pick up parts for the general maintenance. Also I've read that the HyperFlex Master Bushing Kit and energy suspension trailing arm bushings are the way to go, Whats your opinion on them because im on a tight budget and they seem to be the cheapest and have quite good reviews. Thanks again for the help as well as your channel, Been watching a lot of your videos and they are really helpful and informative.
Pretty clean for a part out, but if it keeps others on the road its worth it. Great info. A few things on later 90-91 are different, cluster, blower, harness, but should be similar enough. Non-si are easier with less crap.
That would be much more difficult, since you would have to feed it in from both sides of the engine bay. The part that connects to the passenger side was behind and underneath the blower controls and evaporator core. I don't think I could've gotten all of those wires out without removing those parts, and I couldn't remove those parts without having the dash out of the way.
Jon Widmer I should have been more clear. The wiring that is on the dash (cluster, clock, cigarette lighter) come out with dash. There is just one cable you have to remove from the fuse box.
Sad to see it get cut up but it was wrecked anyway and you saved the parts. Question for the LED light beside the sunroof switch. I have the exact same light on my hatch. Is that a factory alarm or just a common place for the flasher light?
Kevin Williams Aftermarket alarm LED. It seems to be a common/smart place to mount it because you can always get a new piece of plastic to replace it if you ever needed to.

really old car it smells I removed all The seats and carpet out of it yesterday and I also power wash the floor on the inside and scrubbed the floor with OXY ODOR BLASTER DETERGENT.....BUT IT STILL GAS A STRONG SMELL...! WITH NOTHING IN THE INSIDE... PLEASE HELP ME ... !
There isn't one on the 88-91 Civic/crx. You would need to pull the dash and clean all the blower control pieces. They have collected dirt/dust over the years. It's not too difficult but can be a little tedious.
Garage Built Hondas Thank You!!!!!
Oi have you heard of the odessy PC680 battery. The gel ones. Aparently they hare super light and last for the money. Im thinking of getting one to save weight and cleaner look. Battery could still be out front for oem look but less weight and less space. Do you know anyone
I have a replica pc680, been working great for over a year now.
I thought that shifter is just moving by itself! It was scary!:))
how do u remove the center blower core?
Remove the dash, then you can access it. It's pretty straightforward after the dash is out.
yea got the hold dash and basically the entire ac/heater components except i cant figure out what is holding the blower
There's a nut inside the engine bay side that is on the firewall.
wow got it thx bro nd hope to see interesting vids from ur channel this year (ps i got a y49 crx also)
Thanks, I hope I have some good content to put out!!
Do you have the dash still? Is so how much for it and shipping?
I do not, sorry!
Anyone know where I can get a blinker lever replacement for an 87 crx dx model?
Try rockauto
by any chance do you have any extra parts for crx?
What do you need?
center console
ebrake cover
tail lights
hood hidges
mpfi harness
I have the ebrake cover I believe still. I sold these taillight, but have a set of 88-89 jdm tail lights with the full corner blinker if you're interested in those. All of those other parts I sold.
how much?
Send me your email
Hey brother don't want to sound like a neewb but I'm unclear on this maybe u can give me an answer.....my ecu plugs were cut on my 91 crx si so is that the chassis harness or under dash harness that I need to replace? Thanx in advance
I cannot remember 100% but I believe it's the chassis harness. The underdash connects to the chassis harness and is for all the controls on the dash.
@@GarageBuiltHondas alright thank u I really appreciate it brother....love the ef vids
You're welcome, glad to have you here watching!!
Hey I'm having trouble taking my heater core out of my 88 crx dx. I have most of the bolts out but its still attached and I still cant get it out there must be some hidden bolts I was wondering if you have a video on the removal. I need help !!! And I can't find anything online to guide me in the right direction. I might just have to get a manual but if its possible you could help give me tips or something. Thanks bud.
Daniel Grajeda did you get the one in the engine bay?
Where you located man
El Paso TX
Hey man just bought my first car a crx 1988 ef7 two days ago and found your channel, your gonna be a massive help working on so keep up the great work! Also if you had and tips i would greatly appreciate it, Its got a doch D16zc with 142000 miles.
What are you aiming for with the car?
General tips in terms of maintenance?
Very true!
I've done this before when i swapped the crx dash in my ef sedan
+gascargo best dash out of all the models I believe!
gascargo it fit p&p??
+pyra90 yes they do.
how much for the the dash set up?
I sold it a couple days ago, sorry!
thank you sir.
Anytime!
Great video. Like always. Just a tip. Dash can be removed with the harness on. you just have to unplug it from the fuse box.
It seems to be a common/smart place to mount it because you can always get a new piece of plastic to replace it if you ever needed to.
hey Jon nice video i am looking for interior parts for my 89 cox si. any good sites you know of
crxcommunity.com, or the EF page on Honda-tech.com has a FS/WTB thread for all EF parts.
Dude if you still have those door panels I’d love to have them
I sold them a long time ago, sorry!
Where can I buy some of the parts?
+shitits joe I sold everything off already. Need something specific?
Garage Built Hondas well I'm building my crx at the moment but I know I'm missing some interior pieces, but I still got some time till I start on my interior
I don't have any interior pieces left. Sold all the rear interior to a friend, the door panels to another friend, the seats and dashboard to 2 different guys on Craigslist. The only thing I kept for myself was the steering column.
Good work Jon! Thanks Greg
Thanks!!
Honestly, its videos like this that help people ! Ive been pulling my hair over a piece I cant find the name of. Its on 6:10 in the video. Its the vent slider that you removed the knob off of. Does anyone know what that part is actually called ? Apparently ive lost mine taking apart my dash. HELP ME CRX FRIENDS !!
I couldn't tell you. Hopefully someone else can!
the fresh air vent? lol idk the legit name for it lol
Good detailed vid man. Grip of nice parts from that ed9
Seriously, I'm glad I picked it up!
ive looking into getting a SHELL SHELL no wiring or anything to replace my rusted asf but run and driving 91. Only thing that really scares me in the interrior wiring my god i dont even think i could even label all that shit lmfao
Lol
That's one of the most depressing videos I've seen. Shed's a tear over the destruction of a CRX. Now I have to go spend some quality time with my CRX.
Man, I know. Had the frame not been destroyed up front I Neve would've cut it up.
I would have built a frame to sit it on with a v8 like that one guy did in another video.
I don't have the skills or money to put into a project like that.
😪
Damn whyd you skip the part where you took out the main air duct and other ac stuff?
your videos help so much thank you
+Linus Torvalds thank you Links!
+Linus Torvalds **stupid autocorrect. I meant Linus!
Later I will contact you I have a crx European version I need a rear panel greetings from Tenerife Canary Islands
Greetings!
glad i watched your vid. i wouldnt have known about the 2 screws behind the vent slider panel. just got myself and original 88 crx in pretty dang good shape. only thing missing outside is the drivers side fender mold. Inside is great other than as your climate control and 2 of cargo covers. You have any thing left for the car i wouldnt mind doing a black interior
Nice! I only have random parts but the interior is gone except the ebrake console and the whole steering column. If you need anything in particular let me know!
Would you happen to have the fender molding for the drives side for an 88 and a si front bumper
Negative on both. This car was crashed on the front end and had a body kit which removed the moldings.
Your videos are very informative. Do you sell any of the vehicles that you restore? How would someone contact you
if interested in purchasing a car? Thanks!! Keep the content coming!!
+havoc010101 Thanks, I try to make entertaining/informative videos that people find interesting! Usually when I have a vehicle for sale my friends and contacts in town are all over it and the don't last long. I haven't really put up anything for sale on TH-cam except for a set of wheels a while back. I have a friend selling a wagon who asked me to put up a walk around video of it also to help the sale. I might just do that. You can contact me through my email. It's on the "about" tab on my page here.
how much for sun roof
It doesn't close properly. It'll open, but the motor doesn't drive it back shut. If you're in El Paso, you can gave it!
Do u still have that wire harness for sale? Haha
Lol
Great video man! Keep them videos coming!!
Thanks!
Hey, Bro it's me again. My turn signal switch went out on my 1989 Honda Hatchback. I wanted to know do I have to remove the steering wheel to replace my turning signal switch. And if how do I take the steering wheel off? LoL☺️.!.. I'm hoping you got a video on it Bro !!!!
Right here man! Since you have a stock wheel you'll just use a flathead screwdriver to remove the emblem and that gives you access to the bolt for the wheel.
th-cam.com/video/HMtFvAfKukI/w-d-xo.html
Garage Built Hondas Thanks Again Bro!!!!!
You're welcome!
Buenas tardes cómo está aquí de Puerto Rico necesito el gas completo de un sedán de 90 me lo puedes conseguir

william carney thanks man, I just submitted a privacy claim. 👍
No problem man, i was watching the ef sedan video and thought the car looked familiar lol. Hope he gets what he deserves for trying to claim your vids as his
Right, what a PITA. They deleted some already, I'll check back tomorrow. I really appreciate the heads up Will, that's freaking cool of you man!!
And thanks for checking out my sedan, what do you think of it?
love the videos...kinda sad watching the shell get cut up little bits at a time lol
I know, I felt all weird at first when I started!!
do you still have some parts lol
+Zack Lansford nothing really! Need something specific?
Garage Built Hondas Yeah I need to get some lift things for the hatch and new speakers
+Zack Lansford buy the lifts on eBay. Brand new for cheap. I got a set for my crx a few months back. Work like a champ!
Anyone know the cheapest way to get all the dash guts? Heater core box Assy, evaporator core box assy, ducts, wiring. Everything to redo the heat and ac components and entire dash harness. Getting a car that had dash gutted and want it to be a street car. Get a parts car maybe?
Find someone gutting a car.
