I live in the UK, I’m now 58 years old and Iv been restoring old Fords since I was 14 years old. Don’t know why Ford got into my blood? But I’m glad it did and I still love Fords just as much today! 😎👍
I absolutely LOVE all things Ford. This was so interesting and I loved it! We will only buy Fords at our house for the rest of our days. Currently we have 5 Fords! We love them and they have been incredibly dependable, beautiful and wonderful! thanks Henry and the Deuce for all you did!
I’ve searched a long time to learn more about this guy. I’ve read the book on him, this was pretty good - there’s more to him I’m sure but I appreciate your doing this video !
Another good video, however I need to point out that the Ford Falcon, although designed in the mid to late 50's, did not go on sale until the fall of 59 as a 1960 model vehicle.
Franklin Roosevelt hated Henry Ford and vice versa. But Roosevelt recognized Ford was an important defense contractor that was in trouble and was responsible for allowing Henry Duce to leave the Navy (during wartime) and come home to take over Ford.

The Falcon was NOT released in 1957, but in September 1959 as a 1960 model. Ford, GM and Chrysler did not have compact cars until that year. The Falcon was Robert McNamara's baby, and he left after that to become the Secretary of Defense under JFK. Ford of Europe may not have been called Ford of Europe before this time, but Ford was building cars in England (the Anglia) and in Germany (Ford Werke). This was one of the many reasons Henry I was charged with being a Nazi sympathizer. He didn't want to lose his German companies so he cooperated with Hitler. The name "Ford of Europe" did not come about until 1967.
Yeah, there were many mistakes here. Most annoying when he claims to be obsessed with Ford in his first comment. I grew up with a 1936 Ford Y from britain that my father is restoring, and I read the Ford family biagraphy when I was 10.

Well done video with lots of great info. But.... at 9:30 a picture of an early 50s Chrysler Imperial? Come on... get your visuals correct for the story you are telling!!!
I’ll argue 3 points. 1) Henry Ford was not a brilliant businessman. He was a brilliant and inventive engineer, but he had no head for business. The initial success of the business was due to a man named James Cousins, who was installed by Ford’s primary investor, Alex Malcomson. Later, Edsel introduced modern business management practices and despite fighting with his father over every move, he was still the primary key the the company’s continued success. 2) Henry II actually hired Ernest Beach as a mentor. He knew his inexperience would spell disaster, so he hired someone who could teach him. Beach was quoted as saying, “Henry brought me in to teach him, and he learned very well.” 3) Ford was an international company, in Europe, Australia and South America, before the Duce was even born.
It has been said that Henry Ford Sr. left the world the same way he came into it, in a room with no electricity and the only source of heat coming from a fireplace. The power house on the estate flooded the night he died and his house was out of power. The tunnel connecting the house to the power station was filled with water almost 6 feet high. Ford just came back into town when Dearborn started to flood from heavy rains and he told his driver to go to the cemetery to make sure it wasn't flooded and it wasn't. He was driven home and died a few hours there. The last car he was driven in is on the estate.
Bennet was a prizefighter and a thug. I don't blame Deuce for getting rid of him. He ran the "Service Department," basically a private security force, working for old Henry. He was hated at Ford.
Read HIS side of the story in "Ford; We Never called Him Henry"' He was very glad when he was fired, He said it was like being released from prison! He also felt that Ford Service was one of the stupidest ideas Henry Ford ever had
Lee sealed his "fate" with his decision on the Pinto fuel tank. $5 would have fixed it, and he was made aware, but $5 was more money than he was willing to spend on the fix. Lee had a "formula" for how to determine the cost, for building a car and thereby also the selling price. Lee rigorously held the engineers to that formula. It is a big reason why Iaccoca had his detractors at Ford, as well as supporters. HE NEVER admitted that he made a mistake, he always made sure there was somebody to place the blame on.
As much praise that Henry Ford 2nd gets in this for saving Ford in this, there should be a note that Lee Iaccoca who had the idea to make the Mustang, which sold 1 million cars, which created a new cars based for the Baby Boomers that had well paying factory jobs, Iaccoca even had in his back pocket, the idea of the minivan, which became a major car seller for Chrysler, before the Deuce fired him, not for poor performance, but because Lee's outshined him at the company.
Henry II got control because his mother, Eleanor, and hhis grandmother, Clara, threatened Henry I with harm if he didn't sign control. Firing HArry Bennet was the first salvo...
I remember when I read Lee Iacocca's autobiography, that Lee said HFII didn't like his flamboyant and sometimes self-aggrandizing personality. When Iacocca resigned from Ford, HFII's parting words to him were "I never liked you"...I don't think HFII was easy to live with.
In truth, HF II ran the company as though it were a dictatorship. If anyone were to have challenged Henry II's right to make a decision, he would reply, "Look whose name is on the building!" As for Iacocca, many people believe that he did more for the company than Henry did. Models like the Mustang, Mark III, Fiesta, etc., were top successes. And with the help of a product planner named Harold Sperlich, he was also able to not only help save Chrysler Corporation, but turn profits with newer and more up-to-date products.
Overall a good story; but what is a Chrysler Imperial doing in the Ford story? Also the Falcon did not come out in 57. Just look at it, it doesn't look like a 57 car.
Harry Bennett actually pulled the gun on John Bugas who handed him his walking papers under Hanks direction(Bugas drew his own gun at the same time too)
If it weren't for Henry Ford II then we wouldn't have the legendary Ford Mustang, F150, and Bronco and we wouldn't have the legendary 5.0L Coyote V8 as well.
The 5.0 liter (actually 4.9 liter) 302 cubic inch V8 was a Cleveland and then a Windsor. The Coyote engine has nothing to do with the Cleveland and Windsor engines from earlier.
To Henry Ford II should've bought both Studebaker and Packard instead of creating the Edsel and Continental divisions and made Studebaker and Packard into divisions like (Studebaker competes with Pontiac and Dodge while Packard competes with Buick and Chrysler so that Ford can focus on Chevrolet and Plymouth, Mercury can focus on Oldsmobile and Desoto, and Lincoln can focus on Cadillac and Imperial).
Naming Edsel Was Henry II’s idea? If so, why was he quoted: “I don’t want my father’s good name spinning on thousands of hubcaps”? Lots of glaring inconsistencies in the story here.
Henry II did not actively "return to the military...hired ten... from the Air Force". The Whiz Kids hired themselves out to post-War American business, and Henry happily accepted this gift of fate which had fallen into his lap! But the true architect of Ford's recovery and resurgence was ex-GM Ernest Breech, who introduced successful automotive practices to FoMoCo and taught Henry II how to run a car company, before he eventually outlived his usefulness and was canned by now-confident Henry. Enzo Ferrari played Henry, and Ford, to force a sweetheart deal out of Fiat - millions of dollars and total control of his beloved racing car company, and the offloading of his road car company which always been an annoying necessity, whose only function had been to finance racing.
I'm curious as to why Edsel his wife, Hank the deuce and his wife. And I believe Clay Ford isn't buried in the family cemetery with Henry and the others. Not only that, how did that become the family cemetery in the first place? Cuz that's all that's there is Fords.
The Ford family owned the land the cemetery is at and Henry's great grandfather bought it. Woodlawn Cemetery on Woodward Ave is where Edsel and his wife are entombed. This was a posh cemetery by the time Edsel passed and where many of Detroit's 20th Century wealthy were buried at. The older generation of wealthy Detroiter's typically went to Elmwood in the 19th, but some of the later generations of Elmwood descendants decided to rest at Woodlawn as well. The Dodge family is at Woodlawn. Edsel liked the high-class environment whereas his father didn't get along with them all that well. Ford Sr., was a farm boy at heart. Henry Ford II was cremated and his cremains scattered, I believe in the Detroit River or Lake St. Clair, I just don't recall. Henry Ford II third and last wife, Kathleen DuRoss lived in Palm Beach and died a few years back.
"Ford exited the Indian market in 2022, ending its 27-year presence that began in 1995. Meanwhile, newcomer Kia has swiftly captured a significant share of the Indian market. Despite investing $2 billion in a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, Ford failed to succeed in India."
Showing a trimotor as a plane for WWII is not correct. Thelongrange B24 was the correct one. If you are going to run information have the corect stuff atleast.
Edsel has slow but sure had a turn around a very rare 60 convertible sells north of $70k if you can find one. Really nothing even comes close to looking like an Edsel
Very informative doucs but PLEEEEZEE>>>> COOL IT with the VERY ANNOYING "story time" pop up after pop up and insane out time clips/shots ---Stop it. You DO NOT need them. They are distracting. Thanks for the comment. Ironically, I do make these videos with much less visual eye candy and put them up on ANOTHER channel. However, ironically, no one seems to watch that channel. This channel seems to get more views than the same videos without the visuals. Go Figure.
This video Not well done ; gaffs ,and oversites ,and cheap visuals ,But ,About Time Henry II got some Respect ,! HENRY FORD II was a Brilliant Leader ,and a Model of a Modern CEO !
Enjoyed this video but it would have been a little better if when a particular car was named you showed a picture of something different. Also, from things I've read he was quite the a**hole.
Thank you for making this. BUT … all of your jump cuts are head spinning and vertigo inducing. When you have a great story and good historical photos, this kind of gimmick video editing makes you look like a kid who’s just discovered all the cool tools in your NLE suite. Please look at some professionally produced content and see how many jump cuts and odd sound effects are NOT used.
So riddled with errors and so much crappy stock footage that doesn't fit with the voice overs that it's almost unwatchable. When simple facts are wrong how can you believe the more nuanced stories?
Just like happended in FIAT with a grandson with the same name of the founder 's company,The grandson of Ford was as terrible as Gianni Agnelli ,COINCIDENCE ?
I am glad he did NOT pass the company to his kids jusr becuase they were born a Ford.... They would have ruined the company. He set Ford out to be what it is today and the iconic state of the name would have just fallen back to ruins. I'm glad that Ford continued to innovate and be the leader in almost every area and technologies. And it was only recently when Tesla gave them a kick, they started to stagnate. But now they are back and fighting for the top spot with coming out with better technologies and more stable consumer friendly releases then Tesla is. Tesla fans are getting sick and tired of the unpolished corners of the software and features and the empty promises and then just the overall build quality being sacrificed in the name of production numbers. And also Ford securing its spot where during the Great recession in '08 it was the only automaker that did not take a government bailout. Even though every other automaker is paid back their loan to the government, for kept enough in its fault for rainy season. And with the advances of the newer technologies of the EcoBoost engine series, they are cranking out massive horsepower numbers that a decade ago of V8 would have a hard time getting to. I am a GM lover, but I do own a couple fords. In the new Ford Explorer ST is by far my favorite! And even recently trimming the fat knowing that their car divisions were not making any money they became a truck and SUV only manufacturer except for the mustang. But putting their name behind performance and racing and quality and state of the art features. Henry Ford II was a great man!
U missed an extremely important fact - Clara Ford told her husband if he didn't make Henry president she'd sell her stock which would destroy private ownership of Ford. That was the 2nd time she did that - the 1st forced her husband to unionize.
Interesting history.i worked for ford .i started in the mid seventies..we know why hank fired lee:):):). He was doing the corporate power game...he lost.. wrong last name...
Iaccoca was the one who got credit, the real engineer, who brought those cars along was Don Frey. Hank was hardly jealous of Lee, he gave Lee the keys to the company and Lee, made a mess.
@@johnsalvaterra3116 Made a mess? By being responsible for some of the most profitable cars ever? Including the Mark III & the obvious Mustang? Or maybe saving Chrysler? 😂. Cut it out guy, you're embarrassing yourself
@@8corymix8 you have NO idea what was going on. But that's OK, I'm sure you are younger than me, and weren't there, so you have a different opinion. But if you study what happened, you will see Lee created his own mess, and blamed others.
The guy who saved Chrysler was Hal Sperlich, who left Ford, and was hired by Chrysler. Hal is the father of the K car and the mini van, Lee came along and promoted them , but it was Hal Sperlich, who did the planning and design, before Lee even got to Chrysler.

ComeOnMan.....Ford needs him back. Look at their quality. It's job none.
Saw the Mustang fastback with the GT lights and not a GT. Really guys?
The Edsel name for the new car was OPPOSED by Henry II. Get your facts straight.
Make a better video..
@Jay-jb2vr Why? I don't make videos. I do however see mistakes. Why not let them know?
@@soco13466 Because you don't have room to talk..
My uncle had a red and white Edsel
Read 'Ford; We Never Called him Henry" To See Harry's side of the story
"Ford exited the Indian market in 2022, ending its 27-year presence that began in 1995. Meanwhile, newcomer Kia has swiftly captured a significant share of the Indian market. Despite investing $2 billion in a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, Ford failed to succeed in India."
I didn’t know that. Thank you
I wonder how much it hurt Ford, to remain a private company, for so long...(?) 🤔
This video is so full of mustakes
He didn't kill everybody that the dogs brothers built Ford
The 1964 Mustang was meant to be a woman's car and not a hot rod! But boys will be boys!
Ford Moter Company manufacturers light trucks and suvs and a few cars.
Could y'all at least do a little research? The Falcon was released as a 1960 model. You show a 1957 Fairlane and call it a 1959 Galaxie... smh
No! Ferrari messed up by selling part of his stock to Fiat
Big error, falcon came out in late 1959 not 1957...
you are correct. I thought I said "between 1957 and 1959", but perhaps I misspoke
Henry ford was a great money maker, but he almost ruined his company several times when he blocked unions.
Very informative doucs but PLEEEEZEE>>>> COOL IT with the VERY ANNOYING "story time" pop up after pop up and insane out time clips/shots ---Stop it. You DO NOT need them. They are distracting. A photo related directly to subject matter left up for visual effect is far more powerful. This video is packed full of errors
It's time to shave man!
It is NOT Ford Motors but Ford Motor....
It's McNamara
Enjoyed this video but it would have been a little better if when a particular car was named you showed a picture of something different.
Also, from things I've read he was quite the a**hole.
Thank you for making this. BUT … all of your jump cuts are head spinning and vertigo inducing. When you have a great story and good historical photos, this kind of gimmick video editing makes you look like a kid who’s just discovered all the cool tools in your NLE suite. Please look at some professionally produced content and see how many jump cuts and odd sound effects are NOT used.
Its Ford Motor Company
Have to quit the cobra
So riddled with errors and so much crappy stock footage that doesn't fit with the voice overs that it's almost unwatchable. When simple facts are wrong how can you believe the more nuanced stories?
The endless parade of cheesy graphics make this video impossible to watch
Why do we constantly have to listen to stupid background music. Its irritating.
It's pronounced "la mah" its not a pontiac lol
He was handed a billion dollar company that he contributed absolutely nothing to, spoiled rich kid.
Henry worked his son edsil to death
O gay que revolucionou o Grupo Ford !( O Segundo Henry Ford o ll)
But true, most Ford's cars are ugly
U missed an extremely important fact - Clara Ford told her husband if he didn't make Henry president she'd sell her stock which would destroy private ownership of Ford. That was the 2nd time she did that - the 1st forced her husband to unionize.
Interesting history.i worked for ford .i started in the mid seventies..we know why hank fired lee:):):). He was doing the corporate power game...he lost.. wrong last name...
Ford motors? Where does the s come from?
Lee Iacocca was responsible for many of those cars, not the Deuce. Hank was jealous of Iaccoca
Hey video narrator, the auto company is called THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. NOT Ford Motors. Go back to elementary school history or social studies class and learn how to pronounce Ford Motor without the "s" at the end of the word Motor.😂
Ford Falcon was released in 1960 not 1957.
