    Thank you for the excellent tutorial... I do have a doubt... @16:36 on the video you have selected the seismic load factor as 1.... Can we tinker with that value to compensate for the importance factor ? If I wanted an importance factor greater than 1.5, could I increase the seismic load factor ? Or am I interpreting the whole seismic load factor wrong ? Would be really grateful to hear back from you on this...

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are 2 things to understand here.
      First, since this was an example I have not considered any DL, LL etc. and hence I have not taken the effect of load combinations which uses the factors of 1.5, 1.2 etc for different combinations as per Engineering Codes.
      Second, the seismic load factor should invariably be kept at 1 during load creation. The factors of 1.5 etc. should be placed only when your are going for load combinations. And as I said, this is just and example and that is why I only talked about Seismic Loads and not the load combination effects.
      As for giving the Importance Factor greater than 1.5 there won't ever be a need. The IS Code is clear about providing the values of 1, 1.2. 1.5 for different types of buildings and hence you will never need to go above 1.5.
      I hope I have answered the questions to your satisfaction.

  • @bijaybalarampatra9338
    @bijaybalarampatra9338 ปีที่แล้ว

    hello sir, if we just simply add the self weight then the software will automatically calculate all the dead loads or we have to assign these values. I am lil bit confused

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Self weight is created only for the members you have modeled. For example if you model slab with 125mm thickness as plates it will only consider the load due to this. Additional loads due to plaster, floor finish etc. which is over and above this 125mm will not be considered by the software directly and you will have to add the same manually.

    Sir, when i'm clicking on generate button after selecting IS 1893 in STAAD, it is showing warning saying "creation failed". Is there any problem with my software?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The error message is related to seismic parameter auto-generation as per IS1893 code in STAAD.Pro Select Series 6 (build 20.07.11.33) version. This problem has occurred because of the fact that Dll1893.dll has not been registered at the time of installation of the software. You need to register this dll file (Dll1893.dll) manually.
      The procedure is mentioned below--
      1. Go to the following location-
      X:\SProV8i SS6\STAAD
      Where x is the local drive where you have installed STAAD.Pro SS6 version.
      2. Locate the “Dll1893.dll” file and copy the full path. The path will be as-
      C:\SProV8i SS6\STAAD\Dll1893.dll
      3. Open the command prompt in administrator mode (go to Run >type “cmd” and select the option “Run as Administrator”)
      4. Write the following command-
      regsvr32 “C:\SProV8i SS6\STAAD\Dll1893.dll”
      5. Press Enter. You should see a regsvr32 window, confirming success. Click on Ok.
      6. Now run STAAD and go to seismic definition to check.
      Note: This problem has been rectified in STAAD.Pro SS6( build 20.07.11.45).

    Can you please explain about the Member Weights

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are talking about this particular video, the member weights have been presumed to be taken care of in the Dead Load provided in the example. In a real case scenario you will have to include Member weights separately along with all types of Dead Loads, Live Loads etc. This was just an example and hence the values have been assumed.

    In self weight ,weight of floor is included,so what is purpose of adding floor load?

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Self weight is the weight of all members you have modeled. For example, if you have modeled Slab as Plates inside STAAD you won't be needing to define floor loads again. You can simply use Self-Weight in such a case. However, the common practice is designing frame structure only ie. beam and columns only, using STAAD and slab manually. In such a case Slab load is to be taken separately as Floor loads as there is no Member to model the self-weight of the slab. I hope this clarifies things.

    Sir how can i select specific beams or columns in a frame and display their post processing results like shears and moments? Please i need this

    • @CivilBlackBox
      @CivilBlackBox  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are so many ways to do that. Go to the selection tab in the menu items and you will find numerous options for selecting specific beams. One way that I do is first view only the floor I am interested in by selecting the floor and then "view selected members only" and then inside post processing mode find the SFD and BMD of whatever beam column I need. Hope that helps.
