I'm a retired healthcare executive and when I went through menopause, I sought help among my network of medical professionals. NONE of them could help and NONE of them had any clue about hormone replacement. So, I found myself a Functional Medicine MD. She saved my life! She tested me for everything and put me on HRT. I lost 30 lbs and all my symptoms disappeared in a matter of weeks. Unfortunately, people may have to go outside conventional medicine to find proper menopause treatment. I'm in So. California and I'd love to recommend my Functional Medicine MD to women in my area.

It is interesting to me that so little time is spent on menopause in residency since a woman spends roughly 1/3 of her life post menopausal. That doesn't even count the 10 years spent in peri-menopause! When I was in peri-menopause my OB GYN literally said to me that I really didn't need her anymore...I could simply have my PCP do my yearly pap and breast exams. I basically felt like since I was done having babies my female reproductive system was no longer anything special requiring a specialist. It really stung.

I went to an OBGYN in a new city 8 years ago carrying a printed copy of Menopause Barbie’s info and the whole book Estrogen Matters 😂 I went to a dr from the NAMS list as suggested and it still took me 3 dr visits to find a dr that would discuss this. I went based on symptoms not a blood test. I wanted relief from what I was going through. I finally found a dr that was open to discussion but even she wanted to lower my dose and discontinue by 60 so I switched again. I’m glad there is more information now.
Hang in there if you are not getting the help you need.

Had hysterectomy at age 38 due to cancer. Menopause symptoms started around age 40 - hot flashes, night sweats. By age 45 - debilitating migraines, high cholesterol. By age 50 - chronic Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 deficiency. Age 52, muscle weakness and joint pain, high cholesterol. Neurologists in one place diagnosed myasthenia gravis, another state said did not have and said my symptoms were due to 'mental problems'. Have had digestive, IBS issues, hiatal hernia repair. Scheduled for re-eval on myasthenia since muscle weakness progressing. Everything you've described sounds like post menopause problems. I have always asked the doctors if my issues could be hormonal due to early menopause and always get the brush off. No more EMG needles. I'm going to insist on hormonal evaluations. Thank you.

My Wife's OBGYN says "everything's normal" - meanwhile she is slowly deteriorating before my eyes - all the major symptoms and any time I suggest seeing a Perimenopause / menopause specialist, it's met with "My OBGYN says..." and then hostility and derision because "I just want sex" - frustrating that she is not receiving the proper medical support. Painful sex (so almost a decade since anything), Uterine and cervical cysts, itchy skin, no touch, no kiss, zero libido or desire, depression, migraines (given Prozac of course), middle weight gain, joint pain, hot flashes, night sweats, insulin resistance, cholesterol and Thyroid issues - her periods are still regular and heavy - at 55 it looks like this last 10 years will drag on. She is exhausted from fighting all of the issues and they are simply over addressing the symptoms and neglecting her obvious hormone imbalance. I am at a loss on what to do to get her to see someone in the NAMS list

Reading the comments I count myself lucky. My old OBGYN left last year and a young doc took over for him. I called, told the admin I haven't slept since last year and need help. Got an appointment the next day, told her about my symptoms, had my checkup, ultrasound and bloodwork. She had the hormone aplicator spray ready to show me how to use it, gave me the prescription and told me to call on my progress with HRT. And since I'm in the EU it's all free.

It is especially difficult when you are over age 65. The last time I saw an OBGYN I was treated like I was a Street Person. I am clean, I am well groomed, I have insurance. I was treated like a leper.
    It was SHOCKING!
I went in for a pap smear. I was experiencing cramping and wasn't sure if it was my bladder or my uterus. I was begrudgingly given a pap smear. I was depressed, anxious. Last period was at age 48.
The Dr was actually angry that she had to see me.

I asked my last OB about treatment for perimenopause symptoms, looked at me like I was insane! She told me that she could do a breast exam and a pap smear. Needless to say, I have now found a functional med doc. My new doctor has helped a little but isn't very extensive with treatment due to time limitations of a very busy practice. This new physician is ridiculously overscheduled because everyone in town sees her, and nobody wants "SOC" treatment anymore.

I was offered nothing asked for HRT, only option was PREMPRO, after I year I still felt tired but a bit better than before. After watching your channel I asked for editorial Patch & oral progesterone. My OBGYN would not prescribe so I did my research and found an HRT specialist who prescribed. I've been on it a few months feeling way better however OB did not properly tell me how or when to take progesterone or patch. I learned the hard way after weeks of trial and error I figured out taking progesterone on an empty stomach before bed works and helps me sleep. Replace patch once a week placing them in different areas below waste like bum hips stomach to not irritate skin. I am a fitness trainer and feeling myself again. I also brought my research articles to 1st visit w HRT splat and she laughed she said I made her nervous. That taking patch & oral progesterone still leaves me at a high risk of demtentia, heart disease, blood clots, etc.. As long as benefits out way risk I will take HRT. Hope this helps others. Thank you Dr. For your honesty and sharing your experiences. ❤

I had a complete hysterectomy and my OB GYN only slightly suggested it and then dismissed me, saying I didn't need to come back, I could just see my PCP. And yeah, given antidepressants. Now, 14 years later, I have a multitude of health problems from gut to skin to cholesterol to T2d to trouble sleeping...the list goes on. And nobody listens...or thinks it could be tied to hormones.

I was offered HRT by the oncologist, after going through cervical cancer radiotherapy/chemo. And I'm post-menopausal, in my early 40s due to this. I didn't find it helpful with the oncologist, I wanted more information, but she just wanted to "throw" HRT at me and send me home. So I declined, because I didn't know anything about it...after weeks of researching, I decided to go to my gynecologist with the information I learned so we can decide what is best for me at this time. I have also been suggested to use birth control for now because of my young age, and HRT doesn't have the high dose of estrogen that a younger women needs.

    • @wife2sp

I’m confused. Estradiol is the gold standard estrogen type used for HRT. Daily oral estradiol doses range from 0.5-2mg per day. The most-commonly used birth control pills deliver 0.025-0.035 mg of estradiol per day. That’s waaay less than HRT. Young women aren’t estrogen deficient like peri and menopausal women are. Why would they need higher doses?

Sent a message to the provider (VA) explaining that I wanted a women's health consult referral. (They don't know how to read a history). I also had to demand iron last year because they can't read lab reports either. My iron was so low I could barely breath. Told them I wanted information about hormone replacement treatment. They offered me Prozac for hot flashes. In 15 years of being treated at this facility I was allowed once to see a gynecologist. I had to wait 30 minutes while 3 doctors stood outside the door complaining about not being allowed to leave early to beat traffic to the beach on a Friday afternoon. I was their last patient. I am currently using a wellness clinic and am on a biest compound. I don't feel it's consistent, and I want to switch to a patch or possibly a pill, for the consistent dose. Is oral estrogen safe? I've read that the patch can wear off before it's time to switch it out.

I tried bi-est and it helped! What did the trick was the transdermal patch. I didn’t want to do oral because it was my understanding that stomach acids partially destroyed the estradiol. So I have a progesterone oral med at night (which helps me sleep) and estradiol patch I replace 2X weekly. CHANGED. MY. MISERABLE. LIFE. just sharing MY experience.

Hi Dr Mary. Your videos are so helpful. Ive been going through full menopause for over 3 years now. I was not having any periods at all. Then came the worldwide vaccinations. And i started to get my periods very heavily whilst around people who had been vaccinated. I got them for over 5 weeks straight very heavy while i was still working at the time. My vitamin d was extremely low I left work while i still had them. They went away when i stopped working. I didnt have them for ages again until someone visited that had just been freshly vaccinated. And everytime someone came near me after they had it. Needless to say I DIDNT TAKE IT. I had to stop visitirs whod recently had it coming to my home. This worked. Once i did this i stopped getting it again.
Is this some weird menopause thing? I have had them once more, but the same problem, the person lied about being vaccinated but i overheard them telling someone they had it. What could be going on? Am i actually having reactions to vaccinated people? OR is it menopause. The timing of them everytime was very odd.
Thankyou again for your bery informative videos

I would like all medical doctors to be trained in menopause care, no matter their specialty! Menopause affects the whole body, not just the area that gynecologists specialize in. I wouldn’t think I’d need a gynecologist for brain fog, memory problems, muscle and joint pains or the anxiety and depression that occurs with peri- and post menopause, to name only a few. That’s why I initially asked my PCP if she could prescribe HRT for me, just as she prescribes my thyroid hormone. She got a panic-stricken look on her face and said “oh no, I don’t do that. You’ll need to be monitored…” she meant by a gynecologist.
In my opinion, all doctor specialties need to know about all possible symptoms, so they can refer a woman to a gynecologist, if they’re afraid to treat her.

Before the 1997 WHI-Women’s Health Initiative, so-called research, women were immediately put on Het at post-menopause!!! Now, Doctor’s are not only uneducated about HRT, they are terrified. Therefore!p, they have terrified women! Estrogen the life-giving hormone women NEED AND ARE BORN WITH!!!
