I'm curious if the width of the stance of the trailer tires closely matches the stance of the 4Runner? Makes it easier to tow on soft sand beaches. thanks!
Thanks. Appreciate you watching. No problem for the 4Runner as far as towing. The trailer is wider than the 4 runner stance. Probably by the fender on each side. It hasn’t been an issue for us so far though. Runaway makes a 4x8 venturist as well that’s within the stance of the 4Runner. Not sure if you need the extra space the 6x provides though.

Absolutely gorgeous! I have been researching these campers and am undecided between the Rangerunner and the Rouser. As an older person, do you ever regret your choice? Feel like there's not enough heads pace, hate crawling in on your knees???
@@tisenhow We don’t regret our choice because 90% of our camping is in the backcountry and a rouser would be too tall for the trails we go down. If we were just camping in campgrounds, then absolutely it would be nice to be able to stand.
A lot of owners end up selling their runaways because they're too cramped. It's often the most cited reason on a lot of TH-cam channels why they sold it. Go with the rouser. That extra space goes a long way. You're gonna be on public roads 99% of the time. Off-roading is a little dangerous and there's always a chance you'll get lost or injured doing that. A regular road camper is generally gonna be enough as long as you use common sense. Comfort is everything. It's absolutely worth it. Get the rouser! 👍
@@AlFonso-p6p The rouser won’t get to where we like to camp, but I appreciate your input. Too many trails we go on that clearance would be a big issue and we aren’t ready to be limited as far as where we can go just yet. Thanks for commenting.
Love the color and what you guys did on the inside. I know you’re in Florida but in the colder weather is there a condensation issue and how do you deal with that.?
Thanks it has worked out great for our needs. As far as the condensation, yes it can be an issue in any of these tiny campers. We keep our windows cracked at night to try and help with air circulation. We also use an electric blanket instead of a heater and that helps as well. We have a small heater that we can run in the morning just to take the chill off before we get up. I think one of our next modifications will be a maxxair fan install. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
How has the Runaway held up? Have you gone off-road with it? Does your 4Runner have any issue pulling it? Did you have to add a trailer brake to your 4Runner? Great Video! I love the wrap.
It has held up well. We go off road quite a bit with it, there are a couple of videos on the channel where are off road. No issue with the 4Runner pulling it. If I’m in the mountains I’ll put the transmission over to manual and use 4th or 5th as needed. The venturist came with brakes so I added the redarc tow pro elite brake controller.
Do you know off hand which baskets you have on the upper shelf? I'm looking for something to fit on that shelf in our Range Runner. I currently have some up there that don't fit and they're about worn out. I like your lower shelf idea too. We have a front - back queen so the lower cubbys wouldn't work for us. We have "wire" shelving up front going from side to side. I bought 2 "3 shelf" kits that were about 22" wide. On the two outer racks I used 2 shelfs then used one to connect them in the middle. It sits just below the AC and is a good place to put junk... too bad it just falls through 🤣🤣
Funny you ask about the baskets. We are actually in the process of trying to find some that are a better fit. These are not deep enough so we have some stuff propped behind them to keep them from sliding around. If we find something that fits well, I’ll share that info.
@@outdoorobservations Thanks! Thanks. We've been busy getting ready for our first trip of the year and I feel like I wasted the winter and now have to hurry up and do it all in a few weeks.
I’m a huge fan and love your guy’s runaway !!! By chance would you know what the measurements to your bed is? Loving the setup and curious if we can manage to sleep our family of 4 on a bed setup like this
Appreciate you watching. After cutting the bed down to give Ellen the floor space she wanted at the front, the mattress is about 68” side to side and 61” front to back. You obviously could leave yourself more front to back length if so desired. That’s one of the things we liked about having an empty box / blank canvas if you will. You can build it out to fit your families specific needs.
You could always put a pad and sleeping bag or two on the floor for onr maybe 2. If you have 2 boys you throw them outside with a tent and sleeping bags and tell them wr will see you on the morning Good Night!
@@Tommy-rr7ez Lol ! My oldest isn’t even 5 yet lol 🤣 but I do get what you’re saying. I’ve been toying with the idea if we don’t all fit Vertically I can make a small bunk Horizontally and they would easily both fit being kids
@@559YoChristian I'm sure you know your a Blessed man! Your precious children will have a time of their life's! Make sure you lock them doors so curious minds can't go out and play after yall go to sleep. I pray yall have a safe and a whole lot of fun buddy!!!!
Curious why you went with the offroad version when you are in FL? I'm looking (live in South GA) but I'm thinking the offroad is overkill. Maybe I'm missing something. Appreciate any feedback and loved the video!
Hi Jim. We live close to the Georgia border off 95 and our favorite camping is in the backcountry. We mainly camp in north Georgia, Tenn, and Nc. Probably 95% of what we do is dispersed so the off-road made the most sense.
@@outdoorobservations thanks for the helpful information. I just placed my runaway trailer order and we are trying to make sure we have the important things for when it’s ready
Neither. I’m not sure if it’s because of the axle less independent suspension or what but we’ve never had an issue with them falling. I’ve seen people use the heavy duty Velcro to hold them in place and even the tension rods for shower curtains. We haven’t had to do either so far.
Love this! Do you know what type of insulation value the trailer and windows offer? The price point is great if it is a well built trailer. Thank you for sharing.
@@johnroden3431 Thanks for watching, John. I really don’t have any good info for you on the insulation value. I know that the panels are a composite honeycomb and are about an inch thick. We are in Florida and I can tell you that during the summer it doesn’t take very long in the evening for the A/C to get cold enough to run you out of there. It gets chilly. Honestly I can’t really comment on freezing temps because I have been in those conditions enough say.
@outdoorobservations thank you for the reply. We go skiing up North in Michigan when we can, in KY it's hot as biscuits in summer, so I need to get something descent for both hot and cold environments. The wrap looks great btw on whoever wrapped it. The price tag is great on this unit!
@@johnroden3431 Gotcha. We are about to do some serious upgrades to ours as far as power goes. We plan on traveling the backcountry for the next couple of years in it and will be heading to Alaska next year for the summer. I think a good diesel heater would be good for some serious cold temps. Only got to keep a 6x8 warm enough to sleep.
@@outdoorobservationsbest of luck on your big adventures, if you travel through KY check out Red River Gorge area, it's beautiful! Diesel gels up in very cold weather, but I'm sure there is some great heating options out there. I really like the InTech trailers as well, the other brands in the 30k plus is just a bit more than I want to spend on a camping trailer.
Are you happy with the spare being on the back of the trailer? I have a Jeep and can easily run my trailer matched spare on the back of the Jeep. If you were me, where would you carry my spare?
@@ThomasTribeTrails You’d be better off with your spare on the jeep. That way if you decide to unhook the camper and just explore with the jeep during the day, your spare is with you. Also it gives you options for a bike rack etc on the camper.
We sleep with our heads at the back of the camper. We fit wheel to wheel but if my feet touch the wall it wakes me up so we changed to sleeping back to front. Works well for us.
Hey guys, great review. We are in the prosses of ordering a 6x8 Venturist. We would like to know who did your wrapping. We wanted to mash out tow vehicle.
Thanks. We are in NE Florida and had a local guy that came to our house and wrapped it in our garage. Pretty much most Sign/Decal shops could either wrap it or refer you to a place in your area that could.
The box is slid forward enough that I can get an inverter generator in it. It makes contact with the A/C cage at about 3/4 open. At the time I bought the box, it was the only one I could find in black. If I had to do it again today, I’d buy a different box.
I hear ya. I just remember a time when I could have crawled in a sleeping bag and slept on the tool box and been fine. Try that now and I wouldn’t be able to walk for 3 days lol
We are in Florida so we do use the a/c quite often at night. The wife and I both like some white noise when we sleep so it actually works out well for us. We don’t find it to be overly loud at all. Maybe we are just used to it, but it’s a life saver come sleep time.
It would be hard to give an exact number as we bought the camper and added things over a period of about 3 years. I’d guess probably around 14-15k. You may want to join some of the Runaway Facebook groups and you may come across some used ones at a good price that could work with your budget.
Yes. We keep it in our garage at home. I remove the Thule but it just squeezes in with the awning and road shower. I disconnect the garage door opener so I can use a paint roller extension to prop the door up just a bit more to clear the road shower.

@@outdoorobservations The electric blanket is a great idea. The max air fans are nice, that would be a great addition.
That’s where the gouge you is with the add on!
That sounds familiar lol. Seems like we do the same thing as well.
Informative video, thanks. One question, what size bed did you install for your trailer?
Thanks. We bought a 10” memory foam and cut it down to our desired size using an electric carving knife.
Happy Trails Thanks 🙏🏼 Dont You want to Runaway 😊
By the way the tear drop in video it looked like you could put a sleeping bag or like you said a cot in between bed and shelve. You may put your shelves on hinges that way you could fold it up and have a little more room. I don't know but I guarantee you will figure it out!
Great video, what size generator do you use to run the ac when boondocking
Thanks. We purchased a wen 2350 on sale from Amazon. Had it for a couple of years and it’s been good.
@@outdoorobservations thanks for the helpful information. I just placed my runaway trailer order and we are trying to make sure we have the important things for when it’s ready
@@NoExcusesOverland Congrats on the order. There are lots of good generator options out there. I know people like the champion dual fuel option also.
Are the bins on your factory standard shelf affixed? Or, do you set them down during transport?
Great setup. Do you sleep across wheel to wheel or front to back?
We sleep with our heads at the back of the camper. We fit wheel to wheel but if my feet touch the wall it wakes me up so we changed to sleeping back to front. Works well for us.
Hey guys, great review. We are in the prosses of ordering a 6x8 Venturist. We would like to know who did your wrapping. We wanted to mash out tow vehicle.
Thanks. We are in NE Florida and had a local guy that came to our house and wrapped it in our garage. Pretty much most Sign/Decal shops could either wrap it or refer you to a place in your area that could.
Which spare tire carrier did you use? I'd like to get one for my runaway as well!
We are out of town camping off the grid. Very limited service. When we get back home in a couple of days, I’ll try and find the link to it for you.
Sent you a message on IG
So you have to go to places that have bathroom facilities?
No, we have a Joolca outdoor shower and a cassette toilet.
Can you open the tool box without hitting the air conditioner?
The box is slid forward enough that I can get an inverter generator in it. It makes contact with the A/C cage at about 3/4 open. At the time I bought the box, it was the only one I could find in black. If I had to do it again today, I’d buy a different box.
Young folk wanna be comfortable too😂
I hear ya. I just remember a time when I could have crawled in a sleeping bag and slept on the tool box and been fine. Try that now and I wouldn’t be able to walk for 3 days lol
Do you use the ac and what is it like noise wise when or during quiet hours ? I am a tent camper so that may explain my ignorance.
We are in Florida so we do use the a/c quite often at night. The wife and I both like some white noise when we sleep so it actually works out well for us. We don’t find it to be overly loud at all. Maybe we are just used to it, but it’s a life saver come sleep time.
Hi. Just wondering how much did it cost you guys for the entire build? I’m considering getting one but on a low budget. Thank you..
It would be hard to give an exact number as we bought the camper and added things over a period of about 3 years. I’d guess probably around 14-15k. You may want to join some of the Runaway Facebook groups and you may come across some used ones at a good price that could work with your budget.
Does it fit into a standard residential garage without the roof box?
Yes. We keep it in our garage at home. I remove the Thule but it just squeezes in with the awning and road shower. I disconnect the garage door opener so I can use a paint roller extension to prop the door up just a bit more to clear the road shower.
What awning do you have.
Ovs nomadic 270
If I buy one runaway camper, would you help me put one awning like yours for me? What state and city are you in?
what mpg are you getting with/without the trailer?
Depends on how heavy my foot is that day but around 16.5 to 17 without and between 12 and 13 with.
@@outdoorobservationsI have the same 4runner and was wondering the same. Still worth it compared to paying $200-$300 night for hotel room.
What size bed is it?
It’s a queen that cut down to fit our space.
what tire carrier is that one?
Had a local welder modify it fit me. I bought it off eBay, think it was like $250
Thank you!!!

How much? I can’t believe people pay 15-20k for such tiny trailers
We paid about 11,500 back in early 2021 but like everything else, I’m sure they’ve gone up. We’ve seen roof top tents these days that are around 5k. So many of these small campers have gotten up of 30k.
@@outdoorobservationsWOW that's amazing up to 30k$! I'm glad I'm building mine cause if I couldn't I'd be in that tent on the hard ground laying on a rock again. Ive never built one before but I believe with a little guidance i can build one a whole lot cheaper at least I hope! I bought a little used trailer that somebody built and I don't know what they built it for but it's built like a tank. I'm going put axle under leaf springs and then go from there so when I get full blast into it I will let you know and you can come help or build it for me and your wife can cook and when you get done then I will drfonetly be a HAPPY CAMPER!!! Happy Trails my friends!
That carpet kills the whole nature vibe...
Doesn’t kill it for us. It does keep the inside of the camper much cleaner though, especially when the weather gets nasty.
Where do you guys poop?
Campgrounds have restrooms. You can tell they are in a campground
$450 for the roof rack add on. Thats way overpriced. Ill install my own and save me about $300

Well thanks for watching 45 of it and leaving a comment. As a new channel it really helps with the algorithm. Hope you have a great 2024.
